Unpopular opinion but:
I'm gonna be happy if this version of RWBY dies. I don't want volume 10 after the flop that was this last season.
I couldn't bring myself to watch past episode 7 of volume 9, simply by how off-putting and upsetting the writing was, considering what has been done to / how much they butchered the characters (and how someone on the writing team pushed their gross Weiss x Jaune shipping fetishes / preferences onto the show, making the ship temporarily canonical by implying Weiss is into older men... simply because she loved and looked up to her grandfather?! YIKES. I wanna puke. This was so unprofessional that, had I been upper management, I would have had Kerry —or whomever came up with- and greenlit this — FIRED ON THE SPOT).
I'm tired. Really, REALLY tired. They've dragged on despite people losing interest, telling them what was wrong with the show and what to change- or telling them to stop altogether... And l'm not even going to get into the horrid treatment some of the people working inside CRWBY have had to endure.
I feel like Kerry (or whomever is left in charge now, since I know Miles left the show & writing team) has danced on Monty's corpse / grave long enough and has now retorted to the last, cheapest tactic ever, in an attempt to bait all the queers that used to love RWBY back to the show- All because of the lack of audience, stemming from the alienation they've caused over the years- of not grasping what made RWBY, RWBY (or well, what made it popular...).
A last minute, poorly written (and forced!) Bumblb kiss is not gonna save whatever this dumpster fire / bad televised fanfiction (in terms of writing) is supposed to be.
I'm sick and tired of being quiet and forcing myself to sit in the sidelines, pretending I don't care or that I don't have an opinion on this.
They have ruined a show I used to love and dragged it through the mud. All because of greed, ego and incompetence at its finest- incompetence to admit that they simply didn't have the resources, skill(s) and financial means to keep the show going and reflect what made it great and popular to begin with.
I know I'm gonna get hate for this and I accept that. If you're still pleased with whatever the hell RWBY is nowadays, good for you, I guess... But I just can't agree with- or support this anymore.
I'm fed up. It's been unfun. Let's never meet again.
May the show rest in peace, alongside Monty, as it should have, right from the get-go, ever since V4 or V6 came out- where they ran out of Monty's notes, planning and writing. I didn't know the man personally, but I sure as hell can tell you, if I had been him, I would NOT have been happy with what they did to what was basically a passion project to him.

Redo of Healer
Welp, heard a bunch of hullaballoo about this one, went over to Hi Dive to take a look at wat the fuss was.
Its revenge porn. Without showing the porn.
Based off of the 2 episodes available, I would guess whomever wrote/greenlit/produced this has a hate boner for the concept of heroes. Its a standard Humanity vs Demon Lord world, only the Champions of Humanity are utter pieces of crap. There has been 1 likeable character-she only gets about 30 seconds screentime, and 2 (so far) sympathetic characters- a maimed swordswoman who hasn't yet been shown to be as brutal and sadistic as her peers, and the Demon Lord. Everyone else, including the protagonist, are brutal, sadistic degenerates that are hard to give a fuck about.
Darling in the Franxxx got me to watch all the way through out of spite because I wanted to see The Power That Be that set up that worlds civilization torn asunder. Not sure if this show can do the same. I'll give it 1 more episode to convince me to keep watching.

Ravenous
Tumblr media
It is through films such as Antonia Bird's Ravenous that one is forced to question whether film criticism is really needed or not. Is there a way to truly qualify just how good or bad this film is? Even if there is, there certainly can be no way to truly tell if a reader would enjoy a film such as Ravenous. On an evaluation of its quality, Ravenous is pretty much best defined as "what the fuck". When it comes to whether or not to recommend it to somebody, it is best to stay away from that temptation. On a similar note, there is really no way to truly enjoy this, right? Ravenous is hardly the most disturbing film ever made, but its unique blend of comedy, horror, and suspense, is often thrilling, horrifying, and funny, yet just so distasteful that it is hard to truly come away saying it was a great time. The only thing certain about Ravenous is that it made the 20th Century Fox executives who greenlit this project start sprucing up their resumes right after the first screening.
Perhaps the best quality presented by Ravenous that tilts it towards being a definitively good film is the score from Michael Nyman and Damon Albarn. Pulsating, thrilling in its own right, and truly unsettling, this constant within the film is really what defines the experience of watching Ravenous. Constantly keeping you on edge with each pounding hammer of a note, the film's score is one that perfectly sets the tone for the events on display. While the cannibalism would unsettle you in its own right, the score takes it a new dimension. It makes bone shatteringly unsettling, frightening, and horrifying. Yet, what is oh so brilliant about Ravenous is how it often allows the score to do the talking. As Captain Boyd (Guy Pearce) races through the woods trying to find Colonel Ives / F.W. Calhoun (Robert Carlyle), the score races through the woods alongside them, creating an atmosphere of pure, pulse-pounding tension. This type of suspense via such a horrifying score is one mastered by a select few horror films and it is one that director Antonia Bird is impressively able to keep as a constant throughout, never letting up on the gas and instead constantly ramming it down the audience's throat, proving that often times the best tension is the kind that cannot be cut with a knife, but rather made into a stew.
Tumblr media
Where the film further increases its appeal is in its cinematography. Often taking on the style of a western - especially given its setting and the fact that it is about a group of soldiers at a remote outpost - Ravenous' beautiful imagery of the snow landing on the horizon is often quite gorgeous, as is the shot of approaching members of the army as they come to investigate the happenings at the fort. Combined with the far more intimate and close-up shot of Boyd and Private Reich (Neal McDonough) investigating the cave that is lit solely by candelight, Ravenous is a film that often has terrific beauty. For all of the gore and horror on display, Bird never loses sight of the fantastic scenery around them or the haunting possibilities of the perfect lighting in a remote cave where cannibalism is known to have occurred. With this perfect framing and lighting when needed, Ravenous is a film that often truly captures the attention of the eye even when the mind is so unspeakably repulsed by the fact that these men are eating one another.
Where the film does slack, however, is in how conventional it can be at times. Playing with classic film tropes of protagonists not being believed by those in power or of the "they are never dead even if you see them dead" horror trope, Ravenous feels very been there, done that in its structure even if its events often cover up this fact. Via the return of Calhoun as Colonel Ives or the resurrection of Colonel Hart (Jeffrey Jones), Ravenous is often a rather contrived film that has very little originality in how it is structured narratively. This is particularly true of its characters with the outsider Captain who is disliked by his superiors, the mysterious stranger who may or may not be trusted, the kooky soldier, the dedicated soldier, the scared soldier/preacher, and the quirky colonel. None of them feel particularly fresh, even if Bird has a lot of fun bringing this odd blend of comedic characters into a horror film. While the film is enjoyable, funny, and thrilling, it is hard to come away not thinking that its cannibalism is not a bit of a gimmick to distract from how conventional and cliche it is written. Rarely as daring as it believes itself to be, Ravenous is a film that is pretty glossy on the inside but only to hide the often rough interior work.
Tumblr media
As a satire and comedy, Ravenous is certainly quite funny and a smart film. Though it is certainly about the military and Manifest Destiny to some degree, the film plays closer to a morality tale regarding sin and temptation. Once dipping your toe into temptation and giving into the urging of Satan - represented here by Ives - it is nearly impossible to stop until you reach death. In many ways, it is akin to addiction in this way as it gives you a rush and feels good even if it often comes with guilt for those just beginning or who are more focused on morality. This is the case with Boyd who argues that due to morality, it is wrong to eat people. Ives scoffs at this belief, as to be expected as he has completely given himself over to sin. What is right and wrong no longer matters to him, just convincing others to give themselves over. Promising life, healing, and the souls of other men - very Satan-esque - Ives wins over Colonel Hart and hopes to win over Boyd as well. The religious implications of the plot are certainly underscored by Ives constantly carrying around a cross. Having taken great pleasure in eating the preacher and chasing him about before eating him, Ives now carries a crucifix and always has it wrapped around his wrist. Waving it about and seemingly using it to taunt whomever he is speaking to at the time, Ives is a man unworried about morality, but yet he walks about with a crucix around his wrist? The only being who would be immoral and nonetheless use religion against those in his path would be Satan. Trying to win over these souls to his side, Ives rarely meets any resistance as the troop had already revealed itself to not be that religiously inclined earlier in the film when they ignored the preacher as he prayed over their dinner. However, he finally meets his match in Boyd who must overcome his cowardice to finally defeat that which tempts him so greatly.
Though often quite cliche and predictable towards the end, Ravenous is a film that thrills, makes you laughs, and make you think, which makes it a proverbial triple threat of cinema. While flawed and bearing the brunt of its troubled production at times, Ravenous is a film that truly unnerves with great ease.

This shit! Can go!
Tumblr media
If you don't hit the x and close the ad fast enough, it'll launch your fucking browser. To make matters worse it's an 18+ (how, how can they verify this?) predatory gambling app.
There is a display lag banking that you'll scroll by an unloaded ad without slowing down, so you won't necessarily see the ad before you're already past it.
Then you hear Sounds and if you don't go back up your dash quick enough to find and close it, pop-up time for you! Fuck this company and whomever greenlit its use here personally.
Hey @staff we do not need literal pop-up ads in this the year 2022? I know we're all nostalgic af for the 90's or w/e but we can leave ads that auto play sounds and open your fucking browser all by themselves as a thing of the past. Do not revive.
