Ngl I liked that pink anemone(?) Girl in splatoon and was curious about her, but now that I've seen One post where op is all 'aaa she's autistic like me fr fr' and for some god forsaken reason uses literal animal abuse as evidence I'm just.

It's not that animal neglect can't happen or that autistic people don't struggle with animal care. But like. There's something about looking at a depiction of that general situation in media, and being like "oh yeah the 'caretaker' is autistic, that's so cool!!"

Like. Do you see my issue here?

Maybe if that were like. A focus of character development, or a situation where someone steps in to help! But this is a side npc in splatoon, it's a flavor text detail that won't get any development on.

You wouldn't look at a portrayal of child neglect and go 'aww yeah autistic parent rep'. Or if you did, there'd either be backlash or -worse- allistics run with the idea and start correlating all autistic people to child abusors. Animals are living things, whether you can empathize with them or see them as such, they are.

And yeah, I know, it's fiction blah blah, but it's the implication in using that as proof of your 'good' autistic (headcanoned) rep. It's not even the fact that's a canon trait. Like. I don't LIKE it. But that's the part where I can go 'ok whatever it's fiction' and move on. Not. Likening it to a real world neurodivergency, especially not one as diverse in experience as autism.

Idk, maybe that was a cleverly hidden troll post. I hope to god it's something like that. I don't really hang out in splatoon circles so I'm not gonna know one way or another.

(Also ik I'm heavily misrepresenting the tone in op's post, they weren't so Excited sounding about it. But being like 'oh yeah she has raptor hands and also executive dysfunction and you can see the latter based on how she's Passively Killing Her Clownfish' is just. Weird??? Nonetheless)
