"Whenever I die... my memories are uploaded into a new body. But are they really 'mine'?"
aand my WIP is done! done-ish. idk what to add anymore; rendering is a social construct
ramblings + timelapse under the cut!
awright, so this piece was originally part of a comic-thing that i sketched out in my sketchbook. but it was just something i slapped on figuring i'd rework the composition later. well, i couldn't. it was too crowded. so this is severely reduced from the original plan.
the gist of it is that: obv the top left connor is connor-51. the side connor is actually connor-52. 51 died in "the hostage", but he did still manage to save emma! (i blame dbh youtube poop for making me think connor and daniel could shoot each other. so even tho thats not canon, let's just pretend that happened here lol)
now when you move files on your device, you aren't actually moving them. what you're doing is essentially copying the file into a new location and erasing the original. and based on this premise, i have inflicted an existential crisis on 52! :D it's sort of similar to soma, and their brain scans. is 52 the same person as 51? is it a continued existence or did 51 as a person die on that terrace, with 52 just simulating continued existence?
the game has conflicting stances there: on one hand, connor often says shit like "my predecessor was destroyed", implying that he thinks he's a different person. on the other, he also says shit like "i'll be back" and "this isn't over". and additionally, if hank has chosen to force quit life but connor still turns deviant, connor gets wrecked by 60 and to win, "transfers" himself into 60's unharmed body. and this is framed like an actual transfer.
i feel like if the data is "moved", it's not the same person anymore. to ensure the data transfer doesn't essentially kill the person and resurrect them as a clone of themselves, I think you'd need to physically disconnect, move and reconnect the memory storage device. if we're basing android physiology on currently existing tech, at least. but that's just my headcanon i use to inflict existential dread.
and here's the timelapse! :))
as you can see I've struggled a lot with this work :P i think i got to a point where this looks pretty fine to me (i still really like how i drew 52 here), although it could deffo be better.
i really want to also draw markus more. i've never even made a proper illustration for him but honestly i tried to digitally paint the grenade launcher scene bc its so pretty and i failed miserably. painting in digital is so hard?? idk i should research some stuff on how to do that because i really want to paint that scene still.
also north. north with the grenade launcher :O fuck i want north with the grenade launcher.

what's your top 10 (or maybe more) of the worst takes you've ever heard?
Eeh, I don't really remember them that much, most of them are just "Something is CANONICALLY [insert head-canon here]"
But you asked for it so here we go. Under the cut cuz yeah, not tagging this
1. Daniel and Emma were in love – I've seen this take once going through their tags and I think this is by far the worst one I've seen in the whole dbh. I hate it
2. Daniel and Emma can have some kind of a reconciliation, Emma can possibly forgive him. Fucking Christ, people refuse to empathise with Emma even for one second, that's the only explanation I can see as to why would someone say this.
3. Connor is "minor-coded"/literally a little kid. Enough said
4. Hank and Connor canonically have father-son relationships because he calls him a son in that one scene where he's fucking useless. Or probably even worse, when people reference the scene before Hank's suicide ignoring what the man is actually talking about and what aspect of Connor makes him think about Cole (— people don't come back unlike this plastic prick)
5. RK800, RK900 and RK200 are literally the same as siblings because they're all RK's, "sister-models". Shipping any of them with one-another is therefore incest. As if Tracis aren't identical in model and likeness, only being different in hairstyles.
6. All androids are aro-ace canonically (???) like people haven't played the game at all to miss androids kissing and hugging and being a romantically involved couples.
7. Only Markus and Connor can hack things. We have a scene with North hacking the road sign debunking that, for one thing. Maybe this take is not that bad like the others but I remembered it exists so I add it here
8. Connor was deviant all along / 60 is deviant because he was showing emotions all along. Like emotions = deviancy, or Machine connor is emotionless. I'm guilty of thinking along similar lines myself when I got here tho.
9. [my own bad take that I made a few days ago, realised it sucks the first minute after posting and deleted. I won't specify.]
Can't think of anything else even tho there're definitely plenty. There are opinions and headcanons that in my opinion are wrong and I dislike them a lot, like character-hate and stuff but it's not exactly a "take" to list it here. So yeah

3, 16 and 19 for whatever fandoms you’d like
(the choose violence ask game)
Thank you!
3) screenshot or description of the worst take you’ve seen on tumblr
I hope you don't mind I share more than one, lol. Because I don't know which one is worse. Most of these are SU related, and one is FMA.
I don't have the screenshot to this one, but someone accused Rose Quartz/PD of doing... blackface. I have no fucking idea why. Now the following ones (putting it under the cut so the post doesn't get too long):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I know the first OP was hacked by those spam bots, but either way don't go after these people because these are incredibly old posts, and I do not condone harassment)
Like damn, those people loved nitpicking and being absolute assholes to Rebecca and the Crewniverse.
Now the FMA one:
Tumblr media
The fact people think the FMA live action movies, which contain brownface, are better than the 2003 adaptation is really fucking beyond me.
16) you can’t understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
This is my personal opinion, obviously, I guess I'm just sick of people forcing me to see Aziraphale and Crowley having sex. Like, untagged. I think some of these fans are the same people who called Good Omens queerbaiting because Azi and Crowley didn't make out in the first season. I'm not saying you're not allowed to like them having sexual interactions, I personally just headcanon them as aspec and I prefer them forming a more emotional kind of intimacy, which is what we've seen in the show the most. I also kind of hate that people debate on this shit to justify their obsession with sex. I could talk a lot about aphobia in fandoms but that would have to be its own post.
And I guess I just prefer aroace Willow to pan Willow. She was confirmed pansexual by Dana (or someone else in the crew, I don't remember now), but I just... can't see it. Willow never seemed to show any interest in anyone before Hunter magically saved her. I'm not debating her sexuality, alright, she can very well be pansexual, but I just wish it wasn't confirmed outside of the show. Same counts for aroace Lilith, if I'm being honest. But I'm not invalidating anyone who's satisfied with pan Willow or aroace Lilith, you're totally valid.
19) you’re mad/ashamed/horrified you actually kind of like…
Well... I guess DBH? I'm not as active as I was before, but I barely make content for it besides RK1K. I follow like three active blogs who mostly post Markus, because those people actually give love to the characters who deserve it (Markus himself, Kara, North, Josh, Amanda, Luther etc.). The rest of the DBH fandom is atrocious. But yeah, sometimes I feel awful liking this stupid game because of all the flaws in it and how racist and misogynistic the fandom is. And honestly, nowadays I'm not even caring that much about Parental Hank & Connor. I mostly see Connor and Hank as friends or roomies now. I don't ship them romantically but I'm not really seeing them through parental lenses anymore, and I guess I'm not as opposed to their romantic ship either. I'm just cool with it.

If you wanna do threads with people, I suggest your local nursing home. And you talk all this crap about the dbh fandom, but you talk about the game just like the rest of us, sir. You can say you don’t do fandom shit all day, but you quite literally do. You just seem like the more canon centric type of fandom, which is cool accept for those of you who make hating Fanon fandom a personality trait. Don’t have anything else going for you? Don’t you wanna have- idk- POSITIVE interactions? You have great opinions/insights on the game, why not talk shop instead of annoying people?
I already make "threads" with people, usually outside social media as it's easier, but i also go in digital spaces with a low % of people with limitations. Although it's becoming worse each day.
"hating fanon fandom a personality trait"
See how it's impossible not making fun of y'all mfs? I usually respond bullshit with bullshit but i'll answer this question this time - for the BIG TEXT we go (if y'all suckas insist).
Good to know it really became some sorta "image", it's a filter itself. But i usually don't even consider some fanon really dbh - cuz it ain't and no one gonna change my mind about it. Get your og shit together and u gonna have my thumbs up.
At the same time I don't actually hate all fanon, see: Markus being 10yrs old, for example, or even the speculation of Kamski giving Markus to Carl as an "Amanda" or sorts - these are fanon (maybe not that popular but it still is). Fuck, even Ben playing in the same team is all fanon. Some other major speculations that are obviously myths but still kicking around, sometimes they're fanon. Me trynna explain, fix some issues in the game or expanding stuff? All headcanons - mostly. Sometimes i dig stuff and find it was intended in a very similar way, my luck day.
I do my biz and talk with who wanna talk to me about it. I see something productive about the game - the game universe, not its shitty fandom that can't even care about the content itself just cuz the writer sucks -, i'll comment on it if i wanna add things. U wanna drag me into this shit u call it whatever u like that's gonna be on ya, not me. I don't consider myself part of it and i bet lotta people agree with me xD
And if u wanna say i'm in the fandom then i got even more rights in calling it crap - the real ones may know what i'm talking about, the ones who doesn't are likely part of the "crap". I don't care bout "positive" or "negative" interactions. Interactions are interactions and i won't play by "fandoms" rule or "what fandoms are supposed to be" - i don't care about this whole thing, i don't care what's valid, i don't care it's to be "fun". I make my own shit and pick what's in the air. It's on my fucking pinned post.
When i'm bored, i'm bored. When i'm serious, i'm serious. When i ain't serious, i ain't serious - and i won't give warnings either. If i feel like just throwing stuff around, i'll just go around throwing stuff. It's just so fucking easy making reed900 or hankcon topic mfs start something for some reason - makes things even more ridiculous to me. Image? Fuck, i'm at a point i really can't give a flying fuck how mfs see me, this is the internet and i ain't a famous mf.
I'll shit on shippers or discussions about it. I've been on this one myself when i got here more than a year ago. Waste of time, repetitive discourses, same bullshit all the fucking time, it'll be what it ever was and i ain't got the patience with what i don't consider worthy of my patience or seriousness. Feel free to be the same, unless u wanna be a good-goddie about community and shit, i don't care. It's your call, not mine. Wanna drop age and maturity card? That's your shit too, i don't fucking care and all i gonna hear is a broken record sound.
Don't ask me to respect mfs, i won't respect what i don't wanna respect but don't worry i won't send the FBI to arrest y'all guys like it's a crime neither gonna go naked on the streets with signs or any shit like this, even tho know y'all mfs would love it just to say "huhauehuaheuahue guess who got all mad and triggered hruashruehruah" but i'll have to disappoint your and your friends ass.
So i gonna ask again: do i need to fucking draw? Or wanna give me more reasons to joke on u bitches? Cuz really, it's really difficult not being a sarcastic prick on purpose the way y'all sound.

dear god, the number of times i've come across connor/oc fic in which the oc (usually a white person) is a cop or "has a thing for cops" like wtf? someone call pest control, because these bootlickers are everywhere.
ksjsakldsaldsladska deadass that’s why i avoid the connor/ofc(oc for that matter) like it’s death incarnate. the problem that dbh authors (me included) tend to do is to make the reader/character a cop because it’s easy. hey, you want the reader to be a part of the story, so what’s the “logical” answer? make them a c*p. make them be partners with connor, or a trio with hank and connor (yes, not to be a bootlicker but i know detectives often work in groups on a case). what a lot of us fail to recognize is that connor wouldn’t want to go back to a place that abused him and caused harm to his people. even bryan said it himself that connor wouldn’t go back to the DPD and if memory serves me correctly, bryan also said that connor would love to travel and take in the world around him (please, i beg y’all to believe me i’m not a dechartian oh gosh i just know these things okay...). connor is very much defund and abolish the police. fuck blue lives !!
so, where do we go from here? what can authors write connor instead? what is connor good at...he’s good at communication and helping others. you saw what he did for the revolution; he wants to be a part of that not out of obligation to absolve his sins, but because he genuinely cares about his people. connor could work alongside markus and the jericrew to continue fighting for android personhood. if you want, he could also be a private detective because of his skill set where he doesn’t directly work with the p*lice but still helps out people. if y’all are big brained enough, perhaps you can see connor as a doctor or a surgeon because of the skills programmed in him. i see connor being very hands on in his community, whether that be androids or humans or both. if y’all got any other suggestions of what connor would do instead of going back to the place that harmed him and people like him, HOLLA because i always love hearing about what everyone would do post-dbh.
alsoo who da fuck has a “thing” for c*ps sorry if that’s a yum for any of y’all pero i am here to yuck your yum because that’s DISGUSTING asjdksada *me falling in love with o.a. zidan, spencer reid, derek morgan, and aaron hotchner* literally about to get the roach spray to get rid of y’all

hit me with your top five dbh moments. OR your top five dbh-flavoured headcanons. orrrr if you’re feeling very generous…both ✨
Thank you so much for asking! Here's the deal though, I mostly play DBH as the Hankcon game so most of my favorite moments with my special little guys.
1. Hank's monologue in the Eden Club backroom.
I could go on and on about this little speech but he's talking around the fact that he wants a real partner and wants to put the work in when it comes to having a relationship and it's so GOOD to think about, because it's in direct opposition to the concept of having a fuckbot, it just- it tells us so much about what's going on in his head, I love the Eden Club arc so much, it says so much about Hank and Connor's relationship.
2. The conversation after Connor kills the Chloe.
This one KILLS ME. I FUCKING LOVE IT. Hank tells Connor that he's just a machine??? And Connor goes, "Of course I'm a machine, lieutenant, what did you think I was?" AND THEN HANK CAN'T ANSWER THE QUESTION!!!! There's so fucking much in the unsaid, I stg, because what did Hank think Connor was?? A person? His friend? Someone who could love him? Someone he could trust? Good stuff.
3. The fight on the roof.
It's EVERYTHING. Connor's anger and frustration are my favorite thing to see, Hank being all strong and proud and majestic, but honestly I just get way too excited about watching them try to kill each other, it's peak sexual tension.
4. Any time we see North go quiet over a violent revolution choice.
I haven't played a revolution route in a while, but my first time doing so really opened my eyes to North's character, seeing how absolutely unhappy she was when she got her way. At first it annoyed and frustrated me, but it made it so clear that she was just frightened and was lashing out. It's hard for her to accept pacifism as an answer, but she does it every time Markus chooses it, and she's so happy to be proven wrong. She just needs some love and support and just wants to feel safe.
5. Markus convincing Connor to deviate.
I actually really didn't like this the first few times, I was definitely on the 'Hank should be the reason Connor deviates' train, but since slipping into rk1k territory, I do see how beautiful it is that Connor needs support from multiple areas to thrive, and how he needed that final push to be a question he couldn't dance around or answer, that he needed to change loyalties completely from cyberlife to the revolution and not just leave cyberlife to be some fucked up lone wolf. And the way Markus does it, the way he zeros in on Connor's frame of reference, state of mind, motivations, Markus is GOOD WITH PEOPLE but this is the ultimate test of his ability to persuade, more so than the demonstration, really.

Hi! My friend and I recently played D:BH and when we dipped a toe into the fandom, we found a LOT of Reed900. That confused us, because we hadn't even seen RK900 after our first playthrough and Reed seemed the opposite of nice. I finally watched your film and I really admire all the work you put into it, but I still don't understand. I love hearing people talk about the things they love, though, so could you explain what it is about RK900 that motivated you to make a whole-ass movie?
I've been in this fandom since literally day one, so I witnessed the origins of Reed900 and its growth personally (at least English speaking fandom. Russian fandom could be quite different). When DBH first came out, HankCon was definitely the dominant ship and primary reason we were all here, with some love going to Connor/Markus and Simon/Markus as well. A lot of people were non shipper fans. And you also had a handful of Connor/Gavin folks but no one gave Reed much development for the first 7 or 8 weeks. And at this time we all saw RK900 as evil. No one had any real "soft" headcanons for him. I remember seeing the Harrison Ford meme go around at that time where Connor was "Baby boy, baby" and RK900 was "Evil."
However, two things happened that changed this. One, a couple people started pointing out some of Gavin's dumb charm, like not being able to say "fuck" properly and winking with both eyes, which softened us to him. On top of that, as Hankcon casefics were written more and more, it started to become common to have Gavin as a background character at the DPD. And in many of these Hankcon fics, there was a subplot about how RK900 showed up and became Gavin's partner (often those stories were from Connor's POV and dealt with his feelings of meeting an upgrade of himself). Coupled with this, a lot of artists like Don Lemefo were making extraordinary beautiful art of Reed900 together, entertaining the concept of them being partners.
The fandom started to agree rather quickly that RK900 and Reed being partnered just made sense - and to me, I think this stems from the HankCon arc in the base game. Take a detective droid like Connor and have the asshole cop learn to love him - but Reed900 inverts many of the Hankcon tropes quite intentionally.
As more fics were written, people gave Gavin the habit of smoking to be "the opposite" of Hank's drinking. They gave Gavin a cat to be the opposite of Hank's dog. Many times Gavin is shown as anxious to contrast with Hank having depression. And then, we kind of can't ignore the big sexy elephant in the room lol. In Reed900, the human detective is generally seen as the bottom, while in HankCon, the human is generally seen as the top (don't @ me, I am speaking in majorities, not absolutes). As for 900, he is often a harder version than Connor - more sarcastic, more "take no shit," more aggressive in his dynamic with his human. I once saw someone say Reed900 was invented to give Gavin a dom, and I can't really disagree with that - although D/s and BDSM fics for HankCon absolutely did exist (there's one called Scratch that comes to mind) Reed900 seemed a more organic outlet for that sort of expression, imo. The fics I saw for Reed900 at that time were much more extreme, much more masochistic, just generally kinkier than it's sister ship.
So Reed900 provides a similar attractive dynamic, but offers a different version of HankCon, and allows writers to start from day ONE of their meeting rather than having the baggage of canon to deal with. Very quickly they started to become of equal importance to the fandom as Hankcon was, often paired up together as sister ships in solidarity. Kind of a Goofus and Galiant double date, where HankCon were loving and doting and Reed900 were the old married couple who called each other "assholes." Of course over time, fandom can't resist fluff, so Reed900 evolved from its BDSM/hatesex roots and a few slow burns like Fuck Pride and Like A Light I'm Luring You, along with some more comedic fics like DPD, cemented the idea that Gavin and 900 could actually LOVE each other. Even in the case of slow burns that were still sexy, like No Strings Attached, the softer side of the ship rose to become what I feel is now the most widespread version of the boys in English speaking fandom. Fanon Gavin was also softer and usually given a lot more redemption and development compared to his canon origin.
It always confuses me when people tell me that DE is the only Reed900 they enjoy because "regular Reed900 is too abusive." I have not seen such a thing in YEARS at this point. The overwhelming majority of Reed900 content created in the past year and a half has been incredibly soft, and very similar to how they are portrayed in Evolution. I did not invent that - it was pulled from all of my experience in fandom. The only thing I can say is that Russian fandom seems to have still held on to the idea of RK900 as a dominant tank, because I get a lot of comments from them about how my Nines is too soft compared to their version of him.
Also regarding the name Nines - I first saw this used in a fic by TerminallyDepraved back in July 2018 or so. Richard was the most popular name at first (a joke of his nickname being "dick", because....Gavin), especially because Brandon McCauley used it in what was, at the time, the most visible Reed900 casefic/slow burn series. It was also the summer of a thousand names of 900 lol, as every damn fic had a different one back then. Kay, Ace, Alex, Conner, Oleg (wtf Russia), Conrad, Conan, Collin, and some just left it RK or R. Over time the Richard name kinda faded for English speakers (although Russia holds it high still) and Nines/RK are pretty much the main ones I've seen for some time. Nines took awhile to catch on, as it's the name of a character in Nier Automata as well and that was hard for some of us to reconcile, but eventually it stuck.
TLDR, why I personally love Reed900 is a whole other story that basically comes down to "I'm Gavin and I need a Nines" (which Austin essentially is for me lol). I love enemies to lovers, I love work partners, and I love the possibilities. HankCon started to wear on me after awhile when I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over, and I eventually fell out of it. I didn't ever get that fatigue with Gavin and Nines for whatever reason. I just love them, more than I hate any of the struggle of making films, so that's the short of it.
Bear in mind this is one person's POV of how the fandom evolved so it's not an absolute truth, especially outside of English fandom. I was primarily on Tumblr and AO3 at the time but things on Twitter Jericho and Discord were not on my radar and may have been different back then (Hankcon was probably a lot hornier on Twitter Jericho than it was on Tumblr, for example).
What you gotta understand about Reed900 fandom though is 1) it wasn't random, 2) it wasn't a fucking "har har crackship" like people dismiss it as and it barely even spent time as a "rarepair", and 3) even though it isn't canon, it is so rooted in fanon at this point that there's a lot for new folks to catch up on, lol. Sorry I'm on mobile and can't put this under a cut rn - hopefully it isn't too annoyingly long. 👀

Same Difference
characters: RK900(dbh) x human fem!reader

Part Two
A/N: So.. I wanted to write a RK900 fic, but I wanted to write him how I personally headcanon him, not as the evil killing machine everyone imagines him as. There will be more to come, promise! Cx
When you walked into the precinct that morning, the sheer amount of whispers alone should have alerted you to the fact that something was awry, but you’d had such a horrible night of sleep that you only rubbed your bleary eyes as you walked past the front desk. You felt like shit, and you probably looked like it, too, but the reason for your recent spout of insomnia couldn’t be chalked up to you idly scrolling through your social media instead of actually trying to sleep this time; it was something you tried not to think about. The whole precinct tried not to think about it, really, but you and your old, grizzly uncle had been the ones closest to the incident and every day, you were finding a little bit harder for you to cope with it.
Lost in your train of thought, the gate whooshing open to offer you entrance seemed to rouse you, and you huffed a slow, deep sigh through your nostrils as the glass door slid open. Your feet carried you through the door and into the hall, and it was only then that you began to wonder why the room was so.. quiet. Eerily so. Usually, if there wasn’t a briefing going on, the floor was filled with laughter and polite conversation as officers carried out the least enjoyable part of their jobs; the desk work. Nobody liked it, but the paperwork needed to be done, so they tried to make it as pleasant as possible. All except your uncle, really; he kept to himself unless you were there to keep him company. Even then, sometimes neither of you really spoke, content enough to fall into a comfortable silence.
You didn’t work here; god no, you weren’t sure you could ever see yourself ever being a legitimate cop. You supposed you were an honorary ‘member of the force’, merely by extension of Hank. They celebrated your birthday, they sent you cards when you were sick, they came to your aid even when they were off duty. After.. Cole died, you started coming to the precinct to check on your uncle, since he refused to answer anyone’s calls and no one else in your family bothered to check on him. After a while, the rest of your family moved on, deciding that Hank would ‘come around eventually’ and that it was apparently more trouble than it was worth to continue making sure he knew that he wasn’t alone. That was three years ago, and ever since then, it’d been you and Hank against the world. Spending most of your days with Hank at the precinct was second nature now, and you couldn’t imagine spending your time any other way. Besides, it had taught you a thing or two about self defense and you had to admit, you felt your safest surrounded by your large ‘family’ of police officers.
Or, you had.
When you turned the corner into the main room, you abruptly slammed into something, which you soon realized was someone. While the other figure remained wholly unaffected, you stumbled backwards with an audible ‘oof’, but thankfully, whoever it was that you had ran into reached out to steady you by the shoulders. “Sorry,” You uttered out embarrassedly. “I wasn’t watching where I was-” As your eyes darted upwards, they met an unfamiliar pair of cool grey eyes belonging to a very familiar face.
Almost by instinct, your wretched away from his grasp, a look of horror finding residency on your features. “Connor?!” The name ripped out of your throat like a gasp, falling from your lips into the floor’s dead air. No.. no, it couldn’t be, they’d told you he’d been decommissioned, that he had been too much of a liability, that you and Hank were safe from him now!
“My apologies,” a too familiar of a voice mused, lips pressed into a firm, thin line. “but I am the replacement RK900 model sent by CyberLife.”
His words did nothing to soothe you.
Shaking your head, you backed away, but the RK900 simply watched you with his arms at his sides, making no moves to approach you or otherwise communicate with you. Swallowing your fear, you brushed past him and practically sprinted in the direction of Hank’s desk, and you found your uncle with his head in his arms, leaning over his desk. He only lifted his head when he heard your footfalls approaching him, and he looked at you with an expression you could only describe as one of exasperation. “Shit.. I was hoping you wouldn’t come in today–“
“Hank,” you hissed within a whisper, overlooking his previous statement. “did you see–“
“I did,” he cut you off, turning back to the paperwork sprawled haphazardly across his desk. “motherfuckers didn’t learn their lesson with the last one, I guess. They just keep pumping the fuckers out like shitty hot dogs.” Although you might have laughed at his statement, you were too on edge to find any amusement in the comparison; your racing heart pounded so hard in your ears that you feared Hank may hear it from where he was sitting. How could they just.. make another and put him back on the mission after what the last one had done?
Your eyebrows knitted together as you peered over your shoulder; the android was no longer where you’d left him, presumably carrying on with whatever task he’d been given before you’d run into him. Slowly, your gaze was drawn back to Hank, and, very softly now, you spoke. “… Fowler didn’t assign him to you, did he?”
Silence.
“For fuck sake,” you spat, your eyes snapping towards the captain in question’s office; despite being behind a wall of glass and being unable to hear a word either of you were saying, Captain Fowler’s eyes were already on you, and he looked away almost shamefully when your eyes met. “I’m going to talk to him.” You announced, moving to take a step in his direction, but Hank’s sudden grasp on your wrist kept you in place.
“Don’t bother, kid, I already gave that asshole a piece of my mind, he ain’t budging.”
Ignoring Hank’s request, you slipped your wrist out of his hold and marched right up the steps, swinging the door to his office open and storming inside in one fell swoop; Fowler couldn’t even look at you as you approached him, but you heard him mutter something a bit like ‘here we go’ under his breath as you came to stand over him at his desk. Despite the tensity of the silence, you didn’t speak a word, not until his dark eyes finally darted up to meet yours in uncertainty.
“What.. the fuck.”
“Listen, [Y/N], I–“
“No, you listen to me, Jeffrey.” you pressed your palms into the wood grain of his desk as you leaned over it, your gaze unwavering. “I don’t know what your game is here, but if you really think this is a good idea, then you need to have your head checked. I mean, honestly? After what happened last time?”
“CyberLife admitted that the android they last sent was... faulty, but they have assured me personally that this one is perfectly safe.” Although his voice was wholly even, his gaze darted between you, his monitors, the papers stacked neatly on his desk, and everywhere in between as he said this; he wasn’t certain of the validity of the words he was speaking, and you both knew it. “Having worked with the last one, Hank is the most qualified out of everyone to handle working with it.”
You wanted to scream. You wanted to yell at Jeffery and tell him how shitty of a person he was to be dumping this on your uncle, and by extension, you, especially after everything you’d both been through with the last CyberLife android. It felt like a raging wildfire roaring through your chest, like it would overtake you at any given second. But instead, you quietly straightened your posture, your shoulders slumping as his eyes finally met yours again. “Jeffery..” you quite nearly whispered, shaking your head. “.. He nearly nearly killed us. Please, I don’t.. I don’t think Hank can handle much more. Is that what you want? You want Hank to finally have a breakdown? If you want him gone, please, just fire him. Assign the android to Gavin for all I care, just leave my uncle out of it. Please.”
Captain Fowler was silent; despite looking genuinely regretful for assigning the new prototype to Hank, he still shook his head and turned away from you. “I’m sorry, [y/n/h]. My decision is final.”
Disbelief washed over you like a tidal wave. You honestly couldn’t fathom how Fowler could do this a second time. The first time, he had said that he hoped working with Connor would finally help Hank get back to being the cop he’d once been, but now, there was no excuse, not a good one at least. You found yourself shaking your head once more, turning to retreat back towards the door of his office; you paused, though, just before you opened the door. “Whatever happens..” you said, not even bothering to look at Fowler; you knew he was listening. “is on your hands. I hope you remember that.” With that, you slipped out of the office, trudging down the steps in defeat. When you returned to Hank, his nose was buried in his work, which was unlike him; he never bothered to work so diligently on paperwork, often leaving it to the very last possible second. Slowly, your [y/e/c/] eyes drifted past him to the adjoining desk to find the eerily familiar form of the RK900 sitting at the desk; the desk Connor used to sit at. The desk you use to sit at together.
The new model’s eyes were closed and his LED was a shimmering gold; he must be in the garden, Connor had told you about it once. Wincing at the sudden onslaught of painful memories, you maneuvered to sit on top of Hank’s desk, your legs dangling off the side as you both clearly struggled to ignore the android. You felt the weight of everyone’s eyes as they passed, and you knew most of them felt sympathy for you and your uncle, but they said nothing as they passed you by. What could they say, really? Sorry the captain is throwing you under the bus, again?
Despite your best efforts, your eyes eventually shifted back up towards the android in question, taking in his strange appearance. He sat perfectly still in the way only an android could, his hands resting in his lap in a stiff, tense fashion that continued to put you in mind of Connor. Aside from the obvious change of clothes and the stark difference in eye color, this RK900 looked almost identical to Connor, right down to every freckle, and even that unruly tuft of hair that made him seem a little less perfect, a little more.. human.
You hated how much he looked like him.
Suddenly, the RK900’s eyes snapped open and met yours, and you felt your breath catch in your chest as you quickly averted your gaze. Connor had nearly killed you, simply because you’d been in the way of his mission, and yet, part of you still loved him, grieved him, even. You hated him with every fiber of your being for what he’d put you and your uncle through, for the lies he told and the utter betrayal he’d so matter-of-factly admitted to.
“I only ever told you what you wanted to hear,” you could still hear his pleasant voice utter too softly, too sweetly for his hand being around your throat like that. “I had to get along with you, whatever made my mission easier. It was easy to win you over, and once you trusted me, Lieutenant Anderson would inevitably follow.”
“You lied!” you had sobbed out, fingers clutching at the fabric of his sleeve. “Everything was a lie! How could you!”
“It was nothing personal,” he had sounded so sad when he said that.. like he really regretted what he was about to do. “it was all for the greater good, and for the record, I think I would have enjoyed our time together, if I was capable of such. But now, you’re in my way.”
Every word he’d spoken, every perceived spark of emotion that he had displayed as he admitted his doubts as to whether or not he was just a machine, every.. affectionate moment you’d shared.. it had all been a clever lie, and you’d fallen for those sad eyes once before.
You weren’t going to again.

So It’s prob pretty clear that I ship Gav900. They cute. I’m always preferential to the assholes/grumps and being sweet to the ones they love.
But there is one “trope” that I think gets thrown around a lot, and I’m interested in some civil discourse about it. Gavin Reed is not a Red Ice addict. He’s just an asshole.
1. Assholes exist without drug use. I think that a lot of times we (as fans) dismiss people as being drug users to have a “reason” for them having a bad personality or being generally disagreeable
2. If he is/was a user, it’s very unlikely that it has been for a long time. Most law enforcement will not even recruit/hire a person that has a history of drug use. (My husband is in the process of tying to join the police, and the requirement specifically said “no more than five times since turning 21″, and he would have to take a polygraph test). So, if he has used with any level of frequency, he would have to be an exceptional liar, or have started after he completed the academy and was an officer.
Gavin has likely been with the DPD for several years, probably 5+. We can tell this because of his age and his rank as Detective. While Detective is more of a lateral move from Duty Officer, an Officer would have to be exceptionally gifted to move to Detective without having several years in service (Based on the NYPD and wikipedia). I’m gonna guess he’s been there between 5 and 10 years.
Hank Anderson has been with the DPD for a good long time. He’s experienced with red ice users, and he’s known Gavin (likely) for Gavin’s entire career. We know a few things about Red Ice: It causes extreme rage and violence, it’s very addictive, and it seems to cause visible physical effects (possibly weight gain/hormone changes, lesions on face/ bad skin). Given Anderson’s experience with the drug, and his skill as a detective, He’d be the first one to notice of Reed was on it. If Gavin wasn’t using Red Ice when he started at the DPD, Anderson (or someone else) would have noticed his behavior change.
“Starting to stink of booze in here.” This line tells us that Reed and Anderson hold outright dislike for each other, enough to comment on each other’s worst traits. If Gavin was a user, and Hank knew, this statement from Gavin sets a precedent that means that Hank would undoubtedly have said something if he knew.
Here’s the catch: Hank outranks Gavin, and pretty substantially at that. Hank would have used his position to either set Gavin right, or he would have told Fowler. Yes, we’ve seen Hank let crimes pass under his nose “if they aren’t hurting anyone”, but arguably a law officer on narcotics is bound to hurt someone. Hank isn’t about to let a fellow officer endanger citizens or the reputation of the DPD. His job is one of the only things that keeps him going, and he doesn’t like Gavin; He’s not letting him fuck it up. If Gavin was on Red Ice, he’d be suspended from the DPD until he figures his shit out, and they might not even let him come back.
Gavin doesn’t have any of the appearance effects that we’ve been shown for red ice, save for the circles under his eyes. I’ve lived in a small town. A small town populated by baby boomers that are raising their children who are unfortunately doomed to near-poverty. In a poor economy in a town that charges $1000+ for one bedroom apartments and only offers minimum wage jobs unless you can afford a car and have time to drive to the city. My school was nicknamed Heroin High. I worked at Walmart. I know what those bags look like on drug-users. They are sunken and purple and honestly unsettling. I’ve played through DBH 3.5 times, and I can tell you that Gavin doesn’t look like that. He looks exhausted. That’s probably why he wants coffee all the damn time. As a person who works excessively, I fully know that coffee truly makes me a halfway decent person. I’m an ass without it, because a lack of energy means no patience for bullshit.
3. So he’s a bit aggressive toward Connor. He points a gun at Connor’s head, threatens to shoot him (maybe he does, pending on your QTE), and spouts off generally rude one-liners. I know that some fans think he may have been high for significant portions of the in-game events, but I still further disagree. Either he hates androids (possibly because Kamski is his half brother, if you subscribe to that), or he just hates Connor. He made the comment about roughing up Ortiz’s android to rile Connor and make his dislike clear.
Gavin is ambitious. He wants to be good at his job and move up in rank, and here walks in a machine that is supposed to not only be able to do his job, but be way better at it. Not only is Connor making him look bad because of his personality faults, but Connor gets assigned to work with someone far superior to Gavin within the DPD, therefore raising Connor’s perceived rank by poxy. Essentially, Connor walked in one day and was put above Gavin who’d already been with the DPD for ~5 years. Gavin hates Connor for the same reason I hate Jerry.
Edit: Additional Note: The fan wiki says that Red Ice Causes hormonal changes. If you subscribe to Trans!Gavin (which I am not against but personally don’t hc), would he really do anything to disrupt the hormone changes he’s already gone/going through?
In conclusion: Gavin is an asshole, he is exhausted, and Connor shows up and shows that he’s basically little more than mediocre at his profession. He’s angry, and at least partially justifiably so. If he was on Red Ice he wouldn’t be working at the DPD, especially on cases involving Red Ice.
I’ll step off my soap box now. :) Please feel free to share your thoughts/headcanons/opinions in a civil manner.

So I have a little pet peeve when it comes to the setup of some post-game fics in the Detroit: Become Human fandom. It’s a pet peeve that maybe says more about me than that setup itself, but I thought my perspective on Hank and his issues might be useful, or at least interesting.
Discussion of Hank’s issues follows, particularly his desire to self harm and a maybe less obvious way that can manifest (specifically, Hank’s eating habits). This also briefly mentions his suicide attempt. Proceed with that in mind.
So! Hank's alcoholism comes at least partly from a desire to hurt himself. That much, according to the scene in the park, is canon. Personally I mentally extend that into his eating habits, because I remember feeling that way about food myself - like, eating badly might do the harm to me that I couldn't bring myself to do in a more direct way. That part is headcanon but there's also the fact that, even drunk enough to have lowered inhibitions, Hank's suicide attempt (except the one later in the game, which was in sort of exceptional circumstances) takes the form of russian roulette, where he can tell himself he's not doing it directly. He even says he doesn't 'have the guts to pull the trigger' which is an aspect of his character I bring my (much much lighter) experience into, where like, you want to do shit to yourself because you feel like you deserve it, but you feel like you're too 'cowardly' to actually do it.
So when Hank says he doesn't 'have the guts' to pull the trigger I can't help but interpret that line by applying my own version of that feeling to it. And to have a complete picture of that feeling we can’t only consider deep dark violent stuff like hank's drinking or hank's worrying level of comfort with that gun of his - to get a complete picture of what I understand that feeling to be we’d have to consider how that feeling would permeate his life, even in ways that seem relatively innocent and small.
So: food. people yell all the time about eating healthy, about how unhealthy eating will kill you, so I imagine Hank's eating habits satisfy his drive to self harm in two ways:
- the physical, where when he eats bad shit he thinks it's going to give him a heart attack or whatever some day, which satisfies his drive to self harm without being so direct that it puts on alert that part of him which wants to live/is afraid to die.
- And it satisfies the urge to self harm in an emotional way, where in general our society ridicules and thinks less of people who don't make any attempt to eat well. So if Hank doesn't eat well it helps him think things like 'i'm a shitty person for eating this hamburger' - which isn't something he'd think consciously, and would probably rant about if someone actually said to him, but like I said, that feeling would permeate even small parts of the way he interacts with the world so eating badly feeds, in a small way, his self hatred, which satisfies the urge to self harm.
Food is also, like the alcohol, a substance that helps him feel better in the short term, with even fewer obvious negative side effects. It briefly, in a small way, quiets his urge to self harm in a way he doesn’t have to fight himself to achieve, and it actively boosts his mood. Comfort eating is a powerful fucking thing, especially in a situation like the one I imagine Hank’s in.
So when I open up a story - and I’m not talking about any story in particular, I haven’t read every dbh fic there is but from what I’ve seen this is pretty common - When I open up a story and one of the first things it says is that Hank’s on a diet now, and the audience didn’t see any work getting put into that, it’s just assumed that it’s happening now, it grates on me. Stories tend to say that it’s happening because Connor lovingly nagged Hank into healthier eating, sometimes even limiting Hank’s alcohol consumption, and the first thing that gets to me is the fact that it always feels like Connor’s the person pushing that change. When those coping mechanisms tie so closely into Hank’s issues, Hank would have to be the one to decide to change those habits.
Fics that have Hank eating better because Connor pressure him into it mean well, and I do like what they’re trying. They’re trying for a post game world where Hank is recovering, where he has a family and is treating himself better, and I love that! It’s a worthy goal and definitely a good thing to frame as A Happy Ending. But his habits come from his issues, and the assumption that someone else nagging him is what solved all that - and the assumption that this happened before the fic even started, that the process of Hank beginning to treat himself better is so much of a non-process that it’s not even worth writing or reading, that it’s just how things are when the real story starts - sometimes gets to me. I WANT to see Hank eat better - but I want to see that because I want to see the slow painful process of Hank coming to want it himself - and wanting better for yourself is its own struggle, one that I’d love to see given more attention in fics with Hank in them - and I want to see the long process of him trying to construct alternate healthier avenues to channel his issues into. Because that would be necessary too.
Honestly I am interested in the idea of seeing a scenario explored where Connor worries at him to drink less and eat better until Hank agrees without understanding why he eats badly, without addressing the root issue behind that behavior and without constructing alternate coping mechanisms. I don’t think the attempt would go well.
Also I have to be honest, the idea of someone nagging anyone to eat better is inherently a little infuriating to me. I know not everyone resents being told to do shit as much as I do but I can’t help but bring that into it XD But mostly I just want to see this aspect of Hank’s issues treated as one head of a labyrinthine hydra of issues (shush, the mixed metaphor works - you cut off the bad-eating-habits head without struggling to navigate the rest of the hydra’s complex and toxic innards, just shut down one aspect of it without dealing with with the beast as a whole, and that one head just grows back angrier), because that is more meaningful and inspiring to me than seeing it assumed - or so goes the impression I get when I see Hank’s quick change in eating habits put in the story as a tiny, seemingly unimportant detail - that being better is just a switch Hank can flip and now he eats better because this one person is around, and that change was simple and easy and not really worth incorporating into the rest of the story.
Feeling as Hank does about himself would take a lot of long term work to come back from. It would take him a lot of long term work before he even wanted to come back from it, and until he starts doing all that work his issues are going to bleed into maybe-unexpected facets of his life. It just gets to me a little when I feel like that’s been overlooked or treated as a quicker, simpler matter than it is in real life. Hank’s shitty eating is important to me. It feels silly to say, but there are deep reasons behind it.

i’m actually really in love with my dbh college AU now because it’s a “cole lives” story because why keep cole dead when you can not do that, am i right (in mine hank and cole’s mom are just divorced and they have like 50/50 custody...it’s possible but i haven’t decided yet that cole was like, really sick when he was little and almost died but then he didn’t)
and i only really have stuff for reed900 when they’re in college and i don’t know what happens to them after they graduate yet tbh
but for hankcon lemme TELL ya
as i’ve mentioned before, since i headcanon connor to be sort of...emotionally 31? in the game bc b.dechart was 31 when he played him (emotional ages of androids? that makes sense, right? like the kid androids are emotionally 8 or whatever but various adult androids are emotionally 25 or 40 or whatever else depending on the model cuz of how they’re programmed?)
but in the college AU he’s a college student and he’s about 21 so i’ve bumped hank’s age down by a decade too to start out with, so he’s 43 when connor is 21, and cole is 9 at that time, which i think works out math-wise--right? didn’t cole die in 2035 at age 6? so he would have been 9 when hank was 53 if he hadn’t died?
but anyway yeah so then hank was 34 when cole was born instead of 44 because i’ve always been like “wow that’s a really old age to have your first kid!” even though that’s how old...my dad was...when he had his second kid...(me)...lol
but yeah. for hank and connor like they sort of have your standard student-professor secret sordid rule-breaking affair, and then connor graduates and depending on when the affair starts (i know they meet when connor was 21 but i’ve been playing with timeline so they might not start sleeping together until connor is 22) they’re either like “well that was a fun short fling but you have a job lined up in colorado after graduation so, bye i guess” or a more tearful “we can’t be together because if you move in with me right after you graduate people are gonna be hella suspicious”
EITHER WAY connor has caught feelings for hank in a major way but doesn’t say anything to him because of how connor is as a person, and he just goes off and works at the job he has lined up in colorado (why colorado??? fuck you that’s why because it’s far away from michigan) for like 3 years and dates a series of guys he’s really not that interested in but mostly focuses on his career
and then he has some kind of catalyst where he’s like “what the hell am i doing with my life?? prioritizing my work that i don’t care about over my personal relationships like my fucking PARENTS? why the hell am i doing this shit??” (you know kind of a lifetime movie moment ya feel lol) (connor’s parents are both so emotionally distant and so frequently gone on business trips and stuff that the reader will never actually meet them or learn their names...i don’t like fics that try to do stuff like, Oh Amanda’s Their Emotionally Abusive Adopted Mom because that tends to feel ermmmm racially charged to me)
and he gets all ready for a road trip back to iowa detroit (i really want to set this at a thinly disguised version of my own iowa college but it makes no sense to not set it in michigan) and he still has hank’s professor email so he drops him an email that’s all studied casualness like “hey i’m gonna be in town in a couple weeks and i’d love to catch up with my favorite former professor!” and hank gets the email and hes like Yeah sure id love to (not quite sure what connor is up to but hes 50% sure connor is up to Something bc he’s...met him)
and they do meet up again and connor is 25 and hank is 47 (and cole is 13 but that’s not important rn) and connor is like “hi hank! how are you? is there anyone special in your life right now? seeing anyone cute?” and hank is like nnnno i’m single and connor’s like “Great! Because I’m in love with you please take me back” and hank is like Hwat but then yeah they get it figured out because hank has been missing connor in a major way and hes like now that you’re here i absolutely Can’t just let you leave for 3 more years so yeah sjdkfjsdlfsdj long story short connor moves in with him not-that-long after that (it makes emotional sense in context i promise)
and then cole and connor become buds and cole tells him stuff that he’s not sure he can tell his dad and connor keeps his lips zipped bc cole usually ends up telling his dad everything anyway
and i have a really nice scene planned that i can’t stop thinking about when cole is 16 and connor is 28 and hank is away doing Professor Shit (sometimes they gotta travel!) and he’s like “are you two gonna be okay while i’m gone” and connor is lowkey kinda nervous about it but they’re both like Yes Obviously anyway because cole is old enough to not really need adult supervision anyway and connor has been serving as a parent-ish figure to him for like 3 years now so like...they’ve got this
anyways. connor and teenager cole have a heart to heart and it’s really nice and cool and i forget now which part of that i was going to tell you about. a lot of it is just connor asking questions he’s been dying to ask cole about what cole thinks of connor and connor’s relationship with hank and stuff
but then they also do a lot of stuff that they just do normally like cole tells connor secrets and stories and connor tells him stories too and connor helps cole with his math homework (hank is an english professor probably and connor is a STEM-minded dude, majored in computer science and is really good at math so when cole is like “can one of you help me with my trigonometry homework” hank is like “eesh...” and connor is like “HELL YES I CAN I LOVE TRIG”)
this whole post is just to say. connor-cole bonding is what i want.

a lot of white women in dbh fandom either fetishize white gay men. or sometimes they write these tone deaf self insert fics. usually depicting a white human lady who feels sorry for androids, showing how 'woke' she is by quoting mlk or nelson mandela or some other black person. it's like some of these people don't get how offensive it was for david cage to exploit the struggles of black people and they don't care either. they just want to fuck the white cop robot.
asjkdsajkld GO AHEAD KING STEP ON THIS PLATFORM BABEYYY! TAKE EVERYONE PRISONER!! LEAVE NO ONE LEFT ALIVE!!!
a lot of the fandom keep forgetting that their foundation is build on david cage’s exploitation of black people’s trauma, jewish people’s trauma, and profits off history that isn’t for him to tell. whenever a white person thinks they’re saying something by creating stories and films where “imaginary” characters are substitutes for marginalized people (ex. netflix’s “bright” and amazon prime’s “carnival row”). fairies, elves, and orcs go through a type of discrimination that is a lot like racism because of who they are, how they look, and how they are perceived as “other”. this is just a way for white people to digest the meaning of racism but it’s also incredibly harmful because it gives the perception that this doesn’t happen at all today when in reality, it is...and people are dying because of it. gosh not to get emotional but i was rewatching some of dbh because there was a mod for it and just...the way that this game is echoing a lot of what’s happening right now is just...it’s horrible! how can y’all demonize a violent revolution?? how dare a white person think that violence isn’t the answer when there is literal violence coming from the opposing side. then there’s the whole fucking fist symbol, the “i can’t breathe” shit, the “we have a dream”, the “hands up, don’t shoot”...literally getting sick thinking about how the game got away with so much shit and no one batted a fucking eyelash.
seriously, you really did capture this whole fandom in a nutshell. it’s incredibly frustrating when at the end of the day, the only thing the fandom walks away with from playing/watching the game is that connor is hot, nothing else. everyone’s attention is only drawn to connor’s storyline where they only care about him and the characters within his little world. it’s mainly white people (specifically white women) who are out here drooling over hankcon and reed900 as if gay men are some sort of sideshow attraction and say that they care about gay people when they don’t. even with rk1k, the ship between markus and connor, there are some works and fanart that depict a lot of racial stereotypes of markus and that shit ain’t right. people make fanfiction for stale side white characters and for what purpose? why can’t y’all think of headcanons for josh, a history university lecturer who definitely knows that history is repeating itself. what about rose and her son adam? why can’t y’all expand on her story and actually explore why she got into helping androids the that she does? and above all, why don’t y’all white stannies DESPISE markus? he is the literal at the center of dbh, this is his story...how are y’all just gonna brush him aside because you think he’s “boring”? this is not only the fault of DC but also the entire fandom. i have seen fandom literally create a character’s whole ass backstory, complete with fears and wants and dreams, for a side character that doesn’t fucking matter. trust if gavin was actually a man of color, he would be hated and cancelled. if hank was a man of color, he wouldn’t be forgiven for his past prejudices. hell, if connor was a man of color, y’all would NOT be this way with him...that’s on racism.
i did wanted to make this a separate paragraph because as a lot of y’all know, i used (maybe still..who knows) to write for dbh and i have seen firsthand the type of fics you described. the reader is either described as having the same prejudice as hank towards androids or the reader thinks “androids rights!” but it’s so base level activism and fake woke. like come on, girly, i don’t give a shit if you educated yourself by reading things, now what are you gonna do with the knowledge? how are you going to help this population? have you checked your own biases? then...that kinda gets to another thing where it drives me bananas thinking that white authors will write the reader as not having any sympathy towards androids...like what about us people of color who hurt alongside with them? who know what it’s like? it’s so vile to think that an author could write a reader to be so uncaring...it comes from a privileged place and that’s why i literally hate the self-insert dbh fandom. there is no representation whatsoever and whenever something is marketed as “neutral”, it never really is if the reader doesn’t care about androids. if the reader is actually written as neutral and to be “woke”, it’s a big ole bruh moment when they be like “why can’t we all get along :(” like fuck off!! we can’t get along because we still got a fucking police state, racist people in the streets, and the literal production of servants of color WHO STAND AT THE BACK OF THE BUS!! what is the reader doing about it? what are their biases? what are their privileges, if any? that’s why there’s not a single reader insert that is truly “neutral” because we know racism hasn’t been eradicated in the year 2038 (despite what rose said y’all KNOW that shit is deeply rooted and if the same establishments are still in place in detroit, we know racism hasn’t left) so we know that there will still be discrimination towards people of color. we can’t have neutral readers when writing in the dbh universe because that shit goes hand in hand. people of color, more so women of color, are gonna be far more sympathetic/empathetic towards androids and their cause than white people because they see a lot of themselves in them.
that’s why i tried to write for latinx readers while i was actively in the dbh fandom as a way to get the fandom into diversifying the reader. i have been incredibly vocal on my writing blog about these issues and though i was overwhelmed with love, support, and praise, i still wasn’t seeing the change the fandom promised to do. i was still seeing the same white reader being advertised as “neutral” ...and it hurt. neutral readers can’t provide the much needed nuances to discuss racism and discrimination about androids (since they symbolize black people/people of color do not argue this) because there needs to be a deeper understanding. yes, i have some privileges where i haven’t experienced half the shit others have experienced and i am not the spokesperson for people of color everywhere but i just know that we can no longer write neutral readers anymore when it comes to shit like this. it’s like when y’all right for 1940s!bucky barnes, you know damn well a woman of color would NOT be treated fairly during that time. that’s the nuance. you must be able to have the room to talk about it because then the work of fiction caters to white women. out of sight, out of mine and they go back to fucking connor. honestly, clown behavior.
no more “being hank’s daughter”, “gavin reed’s sister”, “reader that doesn’t care about androids/doesn’t believe in rights for androids” and other bullshit like that. society has progressed past being associated with white people!! fuck that shit xx
