That there is nothing but hopelessness and despair for the DCAMU and none of it's characters will ever see a happy ending.

hi im lost in the kon & clark + kon & the kents sauce today.

thinkin about how clark takes him to live with ma and pa shortly after "our worlds at war" - after kon has lost guardian, and now mickey and dubbilex and everyone he knew at cadmus has vanished and left him on his own. after he's been used and discarded by knockout, tana, and rex leech. he's not even two years old and there is a whole list of adults who he relied on and who he's already lost because, as he believes, of his own inability to be what they needed him to be. he wasn't savvy enough to realize rex was using him for money, he wasn't heroic enough to save knockout from herself, he wasn't mature enough for tana to love him, he wasn't good enough of a superhero to prevent guardian from being killed in the leadup to everything with apokolips...

anyway, what i'm getting at is that he's used to nearly all of his relationships with adults having a time limit, and to being left alone to fend for himself when that time limit runs out. so, uh, the first time he has any sort of argument with clark, or clark expresses any frustration with him...

which, imo, is extremely possible because, like. kon's an impulsive kid who doesn't always listen to others or ask for help when he needs it (partly because he's so used to fending for himself!) and clark definitely has a protective streak, and i think it'd frustrate clark that kon didn't even tell him he had nowhere to go after cadmus went underground. like he gets that kon's got issues but also Please For The Love Of God. People Who Love You Want To Help You But You Have To Tell Them You Need Help. he wants to help and protect kon but kon doesn't even realize the things he's gone through are fucked up and that he shouldn't have had to deal with them, let alone on his own. suggesting that he should lean on others would make him bristle. and he definitely doesn't want to be a bother or a burden on superman.

so it's a point of contention but like, the love is there. it's a point of contention BECAUSE the love is there.

anyway i'm just thinking of the first time clark tries to talk to kon about opening up and asking for help and telling him or ma or pa or lois when something is up, and kon getting mad at him because he can handle himself and he's not incompetent, and clark being like that's not what i'm trying to say at all, i'm plenty competent and i lean on people when i need to and so should you. but kon's a traumatized and headstrong teenager who doesn't want to hear it, even (especially) from his idol, and clark gets a little frustrated, and then kon ??? stops arguing and just gets really disproportionately upset out of the blue??? and shuts down and then runs off??? and clark doesn't understand what happened exactly but clearly SOMETHING is wrong. figures he'll give kon some space and talk to him again in the evening when he's had a chance to cool off.

instead not even an hour later martha kent hollers for clark to get over to kansas and explain his side of things because she KNOWS the boy she and jonathan raised would Never have told kon he's sick of cleaning up his messes and wants him out of his parents' house and might even be planning to take his name back from him. (clark, hearing this: HE THINKS I WHAT???????? D: D: D:)

(ma sent pa to check on kon when he didn't come down for dinner and pa found him sniffling and stuffing clothes into a suitcase. he said clark hadn't told him to get out yet but it was only a matter of time. they are gonna have a nice long family heart-to-heart and at the end of it pa is going to have to talk ma down from hunting down rex leech with a shotgun.)

anyway kon gets a Really good family group hug that he TOTALLY doesn't cry about (he's cool as a cucumber about it!! really!!) and gets whacked across the head with a boatload of affirmations and reassurances that even if any of them ever argue, his place here and his name and status as part of the family are never going to be in question. (ma wants the shotgun again when he seems genuinely surprised by this.) it might even be the origin of them coming up with "conner kent". a second name just for him, as part of clark's family on earth too.

i am just. so not immune to stories about a little guy who's not used to having a family Getting A Family you know?????

I just wanted to say, yesterday I sat down and binge-read all your Timkon fics, as well as most of the WIPS, and I BADLY want to write some now. I've never really written Tim, tho, since I'm more used to writing Jason. Do you have any tips, or bits of Tim and Kon characterization you consider especially important? (The WIP I've made on my head, if it helps, is (Daemon AU) comics!Tim ends up on Young Justice!Cartoon universe, and he's very, very weirded out by how different Kon is to Conner, and very pissed off that this Conner gets a Daemon while his Kon doesn't have one.)

tbh it kinda depends on where you're trying to go with the fic idea, I'd say? Also why Conner DOES have a daemon and Kon doesn't, probably. Also-also, does Conner even actually have a daemon or is Tim just confused about Wolf or something.

Generally speaking, though, the thesis of Tim is that he is a ride-or-die guy who really fucking COMMITS when he makes a decision. Sure, he'll stalk Batman. Sure, he'll introduce himself to Nightwing and tell him he knows his secret identity. Sure, he'll put on the suit Jason died in to go save Batman and Nightwing from their own stupid selves. Sure, he'll be Batman's emotional support sidekick and lead Young Justice and the Teen Titans and try to clone his dead best friend and run around the planet solo to save Bruce from the timestream. Why not! SOMEBODY'S gotta do it!!

"Somebody's gotta do it" is a lot of Tim's motivation, from what I can tell, haha. He also comparmentalizes really well, is a very talented and skilled detective as his defining Robin skill, uses a bo staff as his signature weapon after convincing Lady Shiva to train him and was the dude who was smart enough to add pants to the Robin suit, and one of his more iconic lines is I think Cassie going, "you lied to Starfire?" and him answering, "I lie to Batman". Which he does. Frequently. Frequently and a LOT-ly. To be fair, Bruce is also a fucking liar, so he deserves it. Tim, however, actually has friends he will ADMIT are his friends without having to be waterboarded into it during an active apocalypse-level crisis.

The boy has no chill. He DISGUISES his lack of chill, but it is fucking nonexistent and the ONLY reason he looks "reasonable" is because his besties are the teen idol superclone with limited life experience and Stephanie "welp my dad's gone supervillain so I'm gonna go kick him in the dick with my intermediate gymnastics" Brown. And then there's Cassie "I'm just gonna ask Zeus for superpowers, natch" Sandsmark.

Also Bart. Also Bart is a thing. Bart is SO MUCH a thing.

So yeah, Tim is a full-stop no-holds-barred insane person, he's just also a better liar than any of his friends. Like so, so much better. AT LEAST THEY HAVE SUPERPOWERS, TIM. AT LEAST THEY'VE GOT THAT. He figured out Bruce's secret identity at NINE 'cuz he went to the circus as a toddler and Dick Grayson's flips were just that sick, and then just didn't tell anybody for FOUR FUCKING YEARS. Four fucking YEARS!! ACTUAL FUCKING YEARS. He just didn't think it was relevant, I guess?!!? So instead he just stalked them with his camera and took cool pics. So many pics. So, so many pics. And he skateboards.

Also he and Kon fucking could NOT stand each other at first because Kon was used to being a solo act and didn't want to answer to anyone else and Tim lacked the ability to convince him to listen to him and they just had VERY different personalities and priorities, and also for a little while in there Match was fucking shit up by pretending to BE Kon, and frankly it's a fucking miracle Tim and Kon didn't kill each other before they ever got to be Titans together, the way they totally failed to get along for the first YJ run.

Seriously, I think they actually had a literal fucking fistfight on Apokolips once, I think that ACTUALLY happened. In the middle of a literal WAR that happened. Tim. Tim, you KNOW better, buddy.

What do you think woulda happened with damirae had apocalypse war not occurred like they had just gone on in their normal lives and everyone had lived and not had lost to darkseid like when do you think they woulda admitted their feelings to one another? What would they be up to now had they not made another flashpoint and the universe was still going minus the tragic ending of that universe? Would love to know ur thoughts on this 💜

Random thing to add I heard that they were rushed to make apocalypse war the last dcamu film as they had another teen titans film they had to scrap cause of wb unfortunately we never got that film thanks wb 🥲

So in this hypothetical world, I'm imagining the war with Darkseid still happens in a sense, but the League's original plan works. Darskeid is unprepared for their attack, it's a close call and some people sustain injuries but Apokolips is destroyed and everyone makes it out alive. End of Story.

BUT THEN DAMIRAE

So after the battle, I imagine Damian and Raven as being best friends/confidants, but being completely and totally unwilling to share their feelings with each other. They both love each other, but they're scared. They don't want to ruin the best friendship either of them have, and are terrified that the other doesn't feel the same way. They might be superheroes, but their still just teens nervous that the person they love might not love them back.

So they don't confess. It's obvious to everyone around them (cue shenanigans caused by the Titans/Batfam to try and get them together as well as having tense romantic moments and pining), but the two of them are just so scared.

Some highlights of this era in my mind would be Damian teaching Raven to fight with a sword, Raven teaching Damian to meditate, always looking at the other when they think they're not looking, protecting each other during battles, late nights just talking on the roof, mocking the other titans together, raising Titus. And horribly romantic dialogue.

A couple months down the line during some big intense battle, I imagine that Damian gets brutally injured. Not fatal, but incredibly painful and debilitating. Raven offers to heal him right away, but Damian won't let her. He doesn't want her to see what's going on in his head, doesn't want her to see his feelings for her. Cue another tense moment ("Damian, please. I hate seeing you in pain- please just let me help you-" "NO. I said no Raven. Just leave!" "Oh, fuck you") And then Raven heals him anyways.

She sees all the times he had looked at her when she wasn't paying attention, felt the conflict tear at his heart as he confessed his feelings for her to Dick, felt the admiration he held for her when she was in battle, felt the adoration he had when he once carried her to bed after she fell asleep on the roof, and she ultimately just felt an overwhelming wave of love. For her. Damian loved her.

But of course Damian saw a bit inside of her head too. He felt the way her breath caught whenever he pinned her down in sparring, felt her pride when he protected innocent bystanders in battles, felt the way she craved his warmth by her side at moments both waking and asleep, felt the sheer protectiveness that coursed through her whenever he discussed the League of Assassins. Raven loved him.

And they both knew.

Raven kisses him first. Lightly, romantically, before pulling back. All the Titans awwwww. Then Damian kisses her in a way that is NOT THAT and all the titans start complaining because "really?" "In front of everyone?" "Now I need to bleach my eyes."

Then they live happily ever after.

Helena Wayne I - back in the day dc was like "(eyebrow raising emoji) our ww2 veteran guys are getting kinda...Old...." so they more or less split the Ye Olde versions of the characters out into their own earth so A) they could continue having their lives and times in the retirement home dimension while DC could have Newer Fresher stuff to play with in the "main" universe--and B) it'd explain how the legacy guys could still exist and show up in current stuff alongside newer incarnations of the same ideas. the DC Classics realm (home of the golden age) and the DC New Shit realm (home of the silver age) if you will

over in the DC Classics Realm (not its actual name) (it's "Earth Two" actually) lots of the old heroes have like children or proteges of some description, since they're Older And All That. some of us are trying to retire! so in the Earth Two dimension after catwoman serves jail time for her crimes (LOL) she and batman get married and retire and raise helena wayne-

so helena wayne I is indeed from "Earth Two" and she's besties with power girl who also lives there. characters could pretty freely visit each other across the realms using like a teleporter device thingy so it wasn't really a big deal at this time. the Old Guard and Current Guys would team up all the time. it was chill

(Catwoman Dying is the incident that makes her pick up the Huntress Thing and later on Old Batdad Dies As Well, so helena wayne I is officially ORPHANED🗣 and when she's visiting the DC New Shit realm she calls the other (younger) batman "uncle bruce" and that's very cute to me.)

then a building falls on her and the entire multiverse collapses as we mentioned before

Helena Wayne II - keep in mind its been 25 years realtime and we're in a completely new arrangement of the entire dc multiverse at this point, but helena II and power girl are from an "Earth 2" where all the guys are older, uhm,

CRUCIALLY HOWEVER Earth 2 is under siege by planet fucking apokolips and you can't just freely hop between the realms from any ol teleporter. so when helena II and her government assigned kara get thrown out of their home earth they can't just go back. in this version they're stuck on the other earth together as the only two bitches from their earth. and navigating that + figuring out how the fuck to get back to "Earth 2" (which last they saw was on fire and exploding due to apocalypse war) occupies the bulk of their initial run. their storyline gets way less good once they figure it out and go home but that's how these things tend to go isnt it

anyway in this incarnation, she's Robin first! then catwoman dies (doomed to go first i guess) and a bit later batman explodes during the apocalypse war thing. once she gets stranded helena II picks up the Huntress Thing. so she is also OFFICIALLY ORPHANED 🗣

she calls the other (younger) batman "not-dad" which is a little less cute but she also off-hand mentions that superman was her godfather which raised a few questions for me personally. did clark kent present you at baptism or is he just like your Secular Godfather

as you can see this is overtly the version CTDE Helena is borrowing material from (trapped in a realm with helena wayne!!) but technically yes both I and II are from a "different" earth, just, one has free travel and is chill while the other one doesnt and is exploding, MDSHJBGFS

Helena Wayne III - time traveler. as far as i know she's probably from the same earth, just the future? i'm gonna be real i'm not as versed in her material (and there isn't a lot of it atm either). but the future she comes from doesn't exist anymore due to her actions, so she IS stranded / doesn't have a place to go back to. she IS a continuity anomaly who "shouldn't exist" but i THINK she only traveled through time and not dimensions. MAYBE. i DONT KNOW IF THATS TRUE

anyway her batman got murdered before she left. i think catwoman was still alive im not actually sure? but anyway this helena's future ceased to exist, so is that technically being orphaned? shes Existentially Orphaned. the Timeline That Created Her is dead. anyway she calls batman "dad" :)

I got… those pages of the Hellfire Gala shown to me, my curiosity won over my better judgment cause I shouldn’t have looked. It was so fucking disgusting. on Apokolips War level.

I wouldn’t have as much of a problem with the deaths if they weren’t so fucking graphic. I do NOT want to see that in my comics, and I do NOT want to see some of my all time favourite characters get ripped apart, their guts flying around, or one getting melted from the inside. Just as they’re believed to be promoted to a main book. I know two are getting books in Fall of X, but mutilating a team of diverse heroes like that is fucking heinous.

We finally get the admission from Darkseid himself out loud that Orion is his son, which is no surprise to anyone at this point.

We also find out that Darkseid wanted Kalibak and purposefully had him with Suli the Sorceress who his mother had murdered. We find out later that Heggra had Suli poisoned for more reasons other than she just didn't approve of their relationship, but that Suli was 'tainting' Darkseid and making him question not only Heggra's methods but Apokolips' path of war.

... I don't know why DeSaad is acting like he didn't fucking know who Kalibak's mother was. You see this dude every day. It is widely known Kalibak is Darkseid's son. Did you think he just... spawned?

if you're asking "which of the Bats has died and been revived with the Lazarus Pit?" then do I have an answer for you!

the answer is: ehhh [handwavey] some of em! kinda! kinda-sorta-mostly. in some universes, these guys totally get revived by the Lazarus Pits! how much this impacts whatever canon you're basing your fic off of, that's all up to you, though. to canon comic writers, most of these deaths and revivals don't count!

Alfred was revived in the Fox show Gotham, which doesn’t quite follow any comic continuity but was honestly a cool scene. kid!Bruce stabs him while mind controlled and its oodles of angsty fun. then kid!Bruce breaks the mind control, takes a cup, dips it in a Lazarus Pool, and pours the waters over Alfred's stab wound to heal it.

Alfred also gets revived in the Injustice Universe and it’s like, the saddest shit ever. he’s revived by Ra’s to fuck with Bruce, then he’s brain dead for a while, and then he regains himself, and then he decides he’s of no use to Bruce anymore in his half-aware state and leaves the manor permanently. (highly rec Injustice if you want to check out Damian’s sister in this universe, Athanasia! but its all pretty sad)

Dick gets revived by one in the DCAU, the Apokolips War movie, but he goes absolutely bananas after (another sad one!). then all that gets erased with some time travel courtesy of the Flash so idk how much it counts.

(fun to note, Dick ALSO gets killed in the Injustice Universe! Damian throws one of Dick's escrima sticks at him, causing him to fall and and break his neck on a rock. Dick isn’t revived iirc :( rip Injustice, you’re interesting in your own, edgy way)

Bruce was revived by one in Birth of a Demon in like the 90s after being stabbed with a shovel? so actually depending on which continuity you follow for comics, this totally counts!

also in one of the video games, Gotham Knights, Bruce dies and is revived via Lazarus Pit at the end! he immediately hops into the batplane, though, pilots the aircraft into the pit to destroy it, and dies a second time. (iconic, in a way)

Damian does die in New 52! Heretic hella kills him. he’s not revived via Lazarus Pit though-- Heretic killed him too good for that to work, even when Ra’s tries to resurrect Dami via classic pit dunking. instead, Bruce steals his corpse back and uses a Chaos Shard (no relation to Sonic the Hedgehog’s Chaos Emeralds), which grants wishes!

TL;DR: some of them are Pit-revived, in various other universes! but they’re not all Pit-revived in the same universe, and most of them don’t do very well (or live very long) post-Pitting. Cass and Jason are two whose Lazarus revivals really stick, and whose revivals are pretty easy to keep consistent across continuities, which makes them distinct and easy to incorporate into any patchwork canon you'd wanna base a fic on! (and also 90s bruce can be there too, i guess)

been working my way through superboy 94 for a little bit (unfortunately I have to like... go to work and sleep or whatever, not just read comics) and oh good lord. kon is just so. He's. I am wrapping this little dude in tinfoil and putting him in the microwave. I'm gonna put him in a jar with some sticks and leaves. God. I'm looking for John Henry Irons reading lists next.

GOSH I KNOWWW!!! the thing about sb94 that really compels me is that it's a little like a metatextual horror story, in that the narrative itself doesn't acknowledge how fucked up some of what it portrays IS, so you're left with this cognitive dissonance (i like to picture it as me banging on the fourth wall like IS ANYONE SEEING THIS!? IS ANYONE SEEING THIS SHIT!?!?? HES ONLY LITTLE!!!!). but also it's like... he's going through the horrors but he stays so kind. he's trying so hard to be a good boy and a good hero all the way through, no matter how many times life kicks him. and it makes me wail!!! hes just a little guy and he's trying so hard to be a good boy!!! and also sometimes he opens his mouth and the most ridiculous combination of words ever strung together in the english language falls out. my god. what a guy.

as for john henry, yesssss y essss i love steel. i wish i could remember off the top of my head which superman triangle era arcs he is and isn't in, but that whole thing is kind of blur in my head skdjfh it all runs together. for a vague synopsis though i'd say read reign of the supermen, then steel '94, and where steel '94 starts crossing over with superman, he'll appear fairly regularly in superman comics from there onwards. steel '94 ends but he still makes regular appearances in superman comics, culminating in some WHOOF!!! REAL GOOD!! stuff with our worlds at war arc, and then there's some more stuff (esp in "superman: the man of steel") that leads up to "superman vs darkseid: apokolips now!" which is the superfam comic ever, to me. lots of good john henry stuff in triangle era! <3

The funniest thing ever is when a series gets one (1) F Bomb and the writers have to decide who gets it, especially when the cast is primarily 18 or younger. This can be in live action or cartoons. Cause it’s impossible not to acknowledge that the writers actually had to think and debate who deserves to say “Fuck”more.

It’s why one of my favourite scenes in Justice League Dark: Apokolips War is when (spoilers) Raven gets the Fbomb. Like yes girl, your life sucks. You do indeed deserve to say fuck.
