@vcndetta asked: △ — [lexi branson] and [nora grey] try to chop down a christmas tree in a forest.
"are you sure we can just chop any tree we want?" nora asked, skeptical on if that was even ethical. "isn't there, like, a designated area of trees we're supposed to choose from?"

Silas kept seeing the woman who was watching him and he was confused. Did he know the blonde? Maybe he killed her lover. He did liquefy someone's insides in Philadelphia. He came closer to her, eyeing her. "Something catching your eye," @vampyredefender

THE NIGHT was almost apart of the vampire now. after centuries cloaked in the darkness she had learnt the difficult twists and turns of nightlife; be it in the city, the countryside or even the deepest of wildernesses. the nights seemed almost endless, and this one was just the same, with the blond searching for something fun to do.
THERE WERE A FEW bars around the area, she’d stayed long enough to know that, and selecting the rowdiest was always her favourite. clad in her usual attire of heeled boots and a leather jacket lexi smirked to herself as she entered the bar. it was painfully obvious when humans eyes lingered, and without even looking over she knew exactly the sort of attention she was getting.
WITH A small hum she made her way to the bar, slipping effortlessly into an empty stool “so, what’s a girl got to do to get a drink around here?”

“But who will you save from themselves when it comes to ripping their throats out,” Kol said with a raised eyebrow. “I’m guessing you’re happy now that he’s alive and well,” He stated. “Oh what do you know about my family and I?”
“The male doppelganger’s little sober compaion,” Kol said, dismissing the compelled girl. “Well I guess you don’t have to worry no more now that he’s well... a little on the human side,” He said. “Are you here looking for his replacement because I will tell you, I’m not ripping heads off of people and stuff,”

❛ have you ever cared about anyone other than yourself? ❜
the words felt like a punch to the gut. he stared at the woman he loved, his heart thumping heavily against his chest as he met her gaze. "how can you say that?" ace's voice cracked a little, his humanity and vulnerability showing in that moment. "everything i have ever done has been for you. i have sacrificed everything for you." he exhaled a shaky breath, thinking for a few brief moments. ace took a slow step toward her. "lex.. you are the only thing in this world that i care about." ace choked out those words, swallowing hard past the lump that began to grow in his throat. the fact that she thought he only cared for himself made him feel terrible. he understood why she could think that way, he had little care or regard for human life, and perhaps should treat them as more than just a meal. he knew that was where he and lexi differed, and that his past actions warranted the harsh words. he took a slow step toward her, his hands reaching out to lightly cup her face. "i am sorry if i have ever made you feel that i do not." he sighed, brows drawing together as he met her gaze. his hands drop back to his sides, leaning back against the wall. "i promise i am trying to be better.." @vampyredefender

Reverse all means of space and time, and what you are left with is a vast nothingness. The words haunted my mind as the skyline of southern Florida turned into a murky dim light of night. The brightness of the sun faded while a new one took over: rays of the city and all of its boisterous party life. Lexi was not kidding— Miami was nothing short of a party. The streets were filled with people of all shapes and sizes, laughing and talking through rose colored glasses. The colors were bright all around and from every corner of the city music of life and happiness seemed to be playing loud.
It was much different from what I was used to; my life was normally filled with seclusion. Hiding in the shadows… away from people and keeping to myself was how I liked most of my days to be. A total and complete utter darkness. Maybe that was why she wanted me to come here, to get away from the personal hell I lived inside of. Here in this city, I imagined it was hard to live in shades of guilt and self hatred. I also imagined it was easy to give into self pleasures. This was a place I knew my darker self would thrive in. A literal utopia of gluttony for the monster within me. I wouldn't give into the temptation.
With the seduction of hunger came an evil within me that wasn't so easily brushed aside. I didn't leave Mystic Falls in an attempt to save innocent people's lives only to come here and end more. Pulling my car off to the side of the main downtown area, I parked it in one of the dark secluded parts of the city before making a round of the area myself. Life and luxury colored the town for all it was worth as far as I could tell. In that I stuck out like a sore thumb. I wasn't ready for Miami as much as I wanted to be— that much became clearly evident. With wandering eyes paying me mind, I ducked my head and kept to myself for as much as it was worth.
After walking several blocks it wasn't until I saw “The Blackbird” that I knew I was in the right direction. It was a dark and sort of mysterious bar that drew in much attention from the outside. To someone like myself, I knew it was a haven for the supernatural. Every big city like this had one or two places that crawled with vampires— a lux hotspot where we didn't have to hide ourselves. It was a blessing and a curse to someone like me; someone who craved humanity and decency but was also hiding from the darkest parts of themselves.
There was a line out the front of the door, with a few large bouncers guarding the entrance. “Are you on the list?” The dark haired and broad shouldered man questioned me as I voided the line and made way towards the front without hesitation. He screamed of intimidation in a way that most humans would have been put off by. I stood my ground.
“My friend told me to meet her here,” It was a bland excuse, but the best one I could come up with. It was not solely humans lined up at the door, but also low grade vampires. Clearly I wouldn't stand a chance if I didn't use the best card in my pocket.
The guard laughed mockingly. “What's her name?”
“Lexi Branson.” The confidence behind my voice was wavering but I knew it was my only option. I didn't want to let Lexi know I was here just yet— doing so would open an entire can of worms that was best left sealed for now. If she was going to be anywhere in the city, I knew it would be here. She thrives off the party, the fun and all it was worth. I couldn't knock her for it, but I also couldn't bring myself to enjoy those same attitudes just yet. I wasn't in control of myself the way she was…
The guard gave a look to me in question, staring me down for several long seconds before finally motioning for me to enter through the doors behind him. Was I shocked I was right about Lexi? No. After you had known someone for well over one hundred years, their every move became as well known as the back of your hand. I knew her inside and out just as she had me— Lexi was more than my best friend, she was a part of my mind in the same way Damon was.
I could hear the loud music pounding from outside the bar and it only grew as I walked further into the dark entrance. Through the words of music, my own voice began to roar in the back of my head: There was no life, no means of hope. Just an empty space which would one day grow into something beyond imaginable. Something with meaning. Much like the shift in the universe, your life could change as well. One moment all could seem wrong, and as you open your eyes to the new day there is change. Is that what this was now for me? Change?
Extravagance was nothing short of how to describe the scenery around me. It oozed of wealth and finery that was nothing short of wonders. A clear hideaway for all eternal life and the beauty it held. It was also a staple of power in that regard; a grab at influence that left everyone in here seeming higher than life itself. From all corners around me, while dark and gloomy, I could make out people drinking, dancing, and chatting amongst themselves. Through the air the smell of sexual arousal and blood mixed like some sort of intoxicated perfume . My stomach curled but I walked on.
Much like on the street before entering, there were a few eyes that turned my way. I was new here and that much didn't go past the vampires around me. While it should have been comforting to know I was surrounded by people much like myself, instead it put me on high alert. I didn't trust a single soul here. As eternal creatures, we were inherently selfish. We did mostly what suited ourselves the best above all others. I was on the disadvantage of course with my lack of human blood. I didn't know where my next meal would come from… I didn't know if that was the best thing to think about now.
Making a direct line towards the bar, I did my best to keep an eye out for long blonde hair through the sea of people. I sought out a singular energy, but nothing here felt familiar. It was lonely in a way I was not expecting, and that left me feeling puzzled. In a room full of people, without the one you wanted most, you could feel so alone. As I reached the bar, I waited off to the side before one of the bartenders paid mind to my presence.
“What are you drinking tonight?” She was average height and olive toned with a voice soft through the music around. It caught me by surprise, somehow unexpected as her face was hardened. Though to be in a place like this, I'm sure it was easy to look angry. Especially as… a human. Suddenly I realized all the people working here had been human with the expectation of the men outside. A sudden sadness washed over me as I looked at her— what kind of life was she living working here?
“I'll just take a scotch on the rocks.” A reached for my wallet, a trivial item as a vampire as I could merely take whatever I wanted without consequence, but she shook her head when I handed out a twenty dollar bill.
“You must be new,” Her gentle voice added with a laughter through the noise around us. She began to make my drink for me only to soon notice the confusion on my face. “You don't pay here, you're a vampire. Obviously.”
“Was it that obvious?” It was hard to tell. As a human, the only vampire I ever knew was Katherine. Though her beauty stuck me from the moment I met her, I never knew what a human would see when they looked into my eyes. Did I appear with the same appeal Katherine had to me all those years ago? Or did I come across like a normal human? I placed the money back into my wallet and tucked it away. All of this show and dance around me felt incredibly sad in a way, yet if I were human I knew it would hold a much different regard. How did she see this place?
The brunette girl behind the bar nodded her head and slid my drink over to me. “You scream newbie, pretty boy. Watch out…” Her wide doe-like eyes gave me a wink in a way that was far too playful for the haunting look on her face. “Someone here just might take advantage of that.”
I wanted to question what that meant— it was far too ominous to sit properly. Just as my mouth began to open, to even dare put meaning behind the warning, silence caught in my throat instead.
Now Hayley,” A female voice from behind me dared to break the space between me and the bartender. A single hand was placed on my back, and suddenly I was thrown back into a time and space that was all too familiar to me. A world I had craved for days, knowing it was the right place to be. Lexi. I turned my back to see her bright eyes and mischievous face warning the girl behind the bar: “Don't go scaring Stefan off. He only just got here, and I plan on him staying for awhile.”

hayley hadn’t spent much time in mystic falls , especially when lexi had been alive , but she had heard stories of the spitfire from her best friend himself . how they would probably get along without a moment of hesitation between the pair which caused curiosity to run through hayley’s body as she exited the warmth of the sun & entered the bar . she had walked towards the other , warm smile on her lips . ‘‘ if i’m not mistaken , you’re the one & only lexi branson , correct ? certainly hope so , otherwise you’re going to think i’m nuts . ’’

the daylight hour dragged on for the blonde, trapped within the walls of the little home she'd compelled herself. returning from the dead, this time as her true self once more was...strange. to know she wasn't going to be yanked back to the afterlife after a moment to find her loved ones, to be free to help others again. it was an exciting feeling, though she only knew where stefan was....and now ace. she had yet to search for percy, hugo and buxton, knowing that the three were spread out in the world. she had made peace with this, the most recent child she'd crossed paths with being buxton around seventy year ago - but that didn't mean she didn't miss them.
entering the bar so like one she'd found in mystic falls she paused as she noted the man at the bar, her breath catching in her throat as hazel eyes assessed the side profile, one so familiar to her. moving to the bar she could scarcely contain the smile that spread to her lips at his words, warmth spreading through her body at the sound of his voice. "and there i thought i taught you to respect your elders." she teased, sliding into the seat beside him.
IT HAD BEEN WELL OVER A HUNDRED YEARS SINCE HE HAD SEEN ANYONE. His latest move had been sort of a beckoning call to his brothers and adoptive mother to show he was still there, somewhat alive, as if a phone call that went unanswered. He didn't know what happened to his brothers but Lexi? She was apparently missing... but with Mystic Falls being gone and residents moving to Beacon Hills, he'd been hoping to find someone, anyone at all, who could tell him what happened to her. There had been a thought that maybe she was dead but he didn't want to put much weight into it. Maybe she was hiding. Maybe she found his brothers somewhere and left Mystic Falls behind? But still, he couldn't help but wonder... so there he was at the bar, eyes closed with his fingers around a half drunken beer that wouldn't do anything too greatly to his body. No, he could only savor the taste while he was lost in thought. Swallowing, he spoke as someone neared him, "Seat's taken." he told them, thinking they were aiming for the seat beside him. Human or not, he wasn't looking for friendly bar banter.

And so it is Christmas
AU Fanfic/ prologue
Elijah Mikaelson x reader
ft. Klaroline and tvd lot
_human_no vampires
a/n:There will be great mad Mikaelson chaos and lots of love... ho-ho-ho
🎄
New York
"Dinner?" Elijah said to Caroline Forbes as she entered his office.
"Ok. But something light. Can I meet you at Marcel's in an hour, I still got to finish reading the deposition."
"All right. I will see you there."- the man said now taking his briefcase and coat exiting his office.
As he got into the elevator and Caroline got to her office down the corridor, a friend and a colleague of hers, Lexie Branson came in. "I know this is none of my business, but - you and Elijah - what is this about? I mean, I know you've been dating like - what three months now - but it's like you don't fit- I don't see a spark"
Caroline sighed."Why does it always have to be a spark? Spark doesn't mean anything. I had sparks- and it led me to - one disaster after another. It is not about hot sex - only. It's about - a good - reliable guy."
"A reliable guy? Seriously? Do you hear yourself? - Oh, don't tell me - you two have not? No?"
"Of course we have. That time - at the conference -" Caroline said. "I told you - I don't want this to be about sex - so - we- are dating now- we want to get to know each other - date!"
"Seriously? - and you haven't- afterwards? - what is this - you will not sleep again until you get married? This is the 21st century."
"This is my choice. And no- I am not going to wait until we get married" Caroline said. "I just want to take things slow. Get to know the man, his family."
"Right." Lexi cocked an eyebrow at her colleague. "Good luck with that."
"You don't have to be madly in love for things to work." Caroline said.
Yes, Caroline Forbes was burnt. Not once. She now sighed remembering High School. College wasn't better either. The glitter of New York and all the Sex and the City related stories- just led her to believe that she could not be the one. And she so wanted to be the one.
And then there was this guy, kind, cultured, gentlemanly. Elijah Mikaelson. Ten years older. Not that it mattered. And, no. She didn't sleep with him. They didn't end up together at the conference. Though they got into his room, but apart from heavy kissing nothing more happened. Caroline stopped it.
Flashback
"I have done this - before- so many times. Sleep with the guy at work and -" - the blonde sighed now moving away from Elijah shaking her head. "I don't want this- I want"
She got teary, turnung away.
"Hey, it's all right" Elijah stepped forward, rubbing Caroline's arms gently. "Come on- sit down"
He walked the blonde to the bed and they sat down.
Caroline sighed brushing her eyes a bit
"What is it that you want?" Elijah said softly.
"Oh, I want - sweet potatoe pie and marshmellows and weddings in June- Oh, God, I am talking such nonsense"
"No, you are not." Elijah said. "Sweet potatoe pie sounds good."
Caroline now laughed a little.
"You can be funny"
"No, that's not me. I don't do funny. But my brothers do." Elijah said.
And from there on they talked all night. Falling asleep eventually, all dreased next to one another. Lexi saw Caroline get out of the room, and hence her putting two and two together. When they returned to New York, they started going out together, working on different cases together. And slowly they formed a certain closeness, that turned into something between so called dating and being together. A couple of kisses, but nothing more.
🎁
Earlier that morning- Mystic Falls
"So, you are dating this woman or not? I don't get it" Klaus said to Elijah in the other side of the phone.
"Well - yes - but it is not really dating. She had too many bad experiences, and we are taking it slow." Elijah said.
"Taking it slow is an understatement- you have been going out with a woman for three months and you haven't had sex with her?! I mean - come on, Elijah, I know you are quite old-fashioned in your views, but even you will have sex before marriage, I know."
"I - actually - in a lot of ways she is right. I have done it too. One relationship after another. Casual sex. I think a bit of old-fashioned dating is a good thing." Elijah said.
"I can't believe I am hearing this. Gia and Antoinette really burnt you." Klaus remarked.
"Gia and Hayley" Elijah corrected his brother. "I broke up with Antoinette."
"Yeah, whatever." Klaus said.
"Like you don't know what it is like. Still hooking up with that new GP?"
"It happened only once. And as a matter of fact, I am meeting her for coffee." Klaus said.
"Hook up and now coffee stage?! She is not really giving you the time of day, is she?" Elijah said.
"Well, she agreed to coffee."Ok. She is here. Talk to you later."
"Hey" Y/N said as she now came up to Klaus.
"Hey. So, mocha or cappuccino?" Klaus asked.
"Tripple mocha and a slice of sweet potatoe pie. I am really hungry." Y/N replied.
"Oh, God, you are like my brother"
"Excuse me?" Y/N looked baffled at the man.
"He always orders sweet potatoes pie" Klaus said.
"Right" Y/N said. "I can't remember seeing him order it."
"It's my other brother. Elijah. The one that lives in New York." Klaus clarified.
"Ah, right." Y/N said.
Klaus now went to get the coffee and pie and Y/N got her phone our as she had a message come through.
"Do you want me to bring the rest of your stuff from New York? Stefan."
Y/N quickly replied now flashing back to their conversation the night before.
Flashback
"You are going to propose to Rebekah?" Y/N said.
"I am." Stefan said. "I really love her and - yeah. She makes me happy."
"Good. I am really happy for you Stefan." Y/N said.
"How about you? How are you doing?"
"I am ok. Feel a bit rusty, but ok."
"Did you talk to Damon?" Stefan asked.
"No. We said all we had to say to one another. We are done. I am here now, where I should have been always. It feels so good to be back in Mystic Falls."
"Good. You sound - good." Stefan said. "So, I hear you agreed to go out for coffee with Klaus?"
"Yes. He asked me like a million times. And it's not that I don't like him- it's just - I want to - don't know what I want really. I just know that I am not ready to be with anybody. But he is ok - and - going out for a cup of coffee is not a biggy!" Y/N explained.
"True. Ok. I'll see you when I get back from New York." Stefan said and hung up.

THIS POSITION WAS SOMEWHERE that Kol often found himself wherever Alexia Branson was concerned. Century upon century had passed since the first time the two beings met. He had been drawn to her immediately of course, her beauty a league of its own, above and beyond that of any other. You could say that was his main reasoning for allowing her into his life, to letting her see beyond the barriers he’d forced around his heart. But, in actuality, the reason he allowed her to see into the very depths of his soul, was her fire. The two beings were similar in some ways, though she held a lot more care than he. It was something he admired about her, something he could only dream of having. Humanity was something entirely foreign to Kol, having harbored the gift of vampirism for much too long of a time to even remember what being human felt like.. Though, Alexia Branson brought it out in him, she showed him how to live a human life, how to live life outside of the shadows - as long as there wasn’t a white oak dagger in his heart, that was.
CURRENTLY, THE MALE WAS PINNED to a wall, the dainty hand of one Miss Alexia Branson encasing his throat. His signature smirk was still placed firmly on his lips, knowing that, since he was the one to turn her, he would be able to overpower her with ease. But, he’d let her do what she had to do. Of course, the terms at which they had parted hadn’t been the best. There was a deep seeded hint of regret in the pit of the male’s stomach. Although, he knew that the children she raised would be far better off without him - he’d never wanted children, not even when he was human. So, he ran for the hills, leaving Lexi to look after the three boys all by herself. “It’s wonderful to see you too, DARLING.” Kol murmured, voice ever so slightly strained by the tight grasp the blonde held on his throat. “I MISSED you.” Sincerity laced those final words.

Caroline Forbes put her phone down an wiped her tears off. No more crying for a guy that would leave over an over again. It was time to start fresh. She went to the bathroom and washed her her face. She brushed her hair and put her up skilfully in a bun. Then applied the make-up. She looked at herself. Yes, that was a good professional look. Just right. Ready for her news anchor interview. Her phone rang and she picked it up. It was the headhunter.
"They want you. I negotiated a great deal. No interview necessary. We are going for lunch with them - be at 'Fiorello's' in an hour"- Lexi said.
"Seriously?!"- Caroline was amazed at the news.
"They just loves your work for NOBCN. See you there"
"Yeah, see you: Caroline smiled happily. The job was secured. At least something was going right. She scampered to look for a suit that she would wear. *** In Y/N/E's atelier
Y/N/E's kiss on Elijah's lips felt like rare expanse of water bestowed on a man who walked through deserts for a very long time. She moved slightly away glancing in his eyes as if trying to find the lost connection. And it was like two souls touched one another, linking again. Elijah slipped his hand gently up her neck and scrolling with his thumb down her cheek now pulled her into another kiss, making Y/N/E transport into a place where there was no time and space, making her whole body tremble with the intensity of his mouth, his tongue meeting hers in a glorious explosions of feelings she was searching for ever since their first meeting at the Clinic.
He could feel her becoming faint and pulled out for a second as she gasped for breath.
"Darling-"- he whispered slightly anxious as she now looked up to him confirming she was fine, her eyes sparkling dreamily at his.
She threaded her fingers in his hair and smiled- "I know now why I married you" "You do?"- he smiled back. "Who wouldn't marry you when you kiss like that?!"- she said.
He smiled and now pulled her in another kiss.
This was no fairy tale. The kiss didn't bring her memories back, but it cracked open a picture of the bonfire or maybe this is a mental picture she so wanted to envision.
"Missed you so much"- Elijah whispered now holding his wife close to him not wanting ever to let go. Y/N/E just smiled back at him. She wished she could say the same, but unfortunately it was not so and it brought tears in her eyes.
"Hey- sweety- oh- please don't get upset"- he know held her head to his.
"I want to say it too"- Y/N/E said sighing a little.
"You will. I am sure you will. All we all open up. And things will be good again"- Elijah comforted her.
Y/N/E nodded and then asked- "why did you come here?"
"Me?"
"You!"- she said.
"This place- has the best and the worst memories for me"- he replied.
"Ah, ok. Tell me the best first!"- Y/N/E said.
"The best is- "- he then took her by the hand and walked her over to a ceramic plaque she had made out of the flowers he had sent for her on New Year's Eve when he proposed- three months after they first got together on the Halloween bonfire night- "when I asked you to marry me- and you said yes. You made this flowers to remember the day"
Y/N/E now ran with her fingers over the relief -
"And the worst?"- she now turned to him.
Elijah changed the expression on his face. No one had yet told her where they had found her. But Y/N/E put two and two together immediately-
"It happened here? I was attacked here?"
Elijah nodded. He hated that it came out now fearing it would kick an unpleasant reaction in her.
"Where exactly?"- she wanted to know.
There was no way he could get out of it and slipped- "Outside"
Y/N/E walked towards the door and he followed her cursing himself for having said things that led to talking about the attack.
Y/N/E was now outside asking him to show her exactly where it had happened.
"I don't know exactly. I found out when you were on your way to the hospital"- Elijah said-"Mark...had found you"
"Mark?"
"Mark Dreyfuss- a fellow artist"
"Where is he?"- Y/N/E wanted to know.
"There"- Elijah showed the warehouse that was on the other side of the road. Y/N/E went there, but it was closed. The men had left already.
"I want to talk to him"- Y/N/E said to Elijah, who went up to the place with her.
"All right"- Elijah said-"I will arrange it"
"Ok."- Y/N/E said nodding a little-"good." Then went silent looking at the entrance of her atelier. To break any darkness descending- he said -
"How about we go- and- get something to eat. You must be hungry- I- true- didn't sleep at all- haven't eaten much either-"- he took her by the hand gently.
"Ha?"- she turned to him- and the touch seemed to have brought her back from whatever thoughts started roaming in her head-"Yeah- I am hungry, too."
"Ok- shall we go then? I'll get a cab."- he said taking his phone out of his suit pocket and dialing the number.
They slowly walked back to the atelier. Y/N/E picked up her bag and Elijah closed the door activating the alarm.
His phone rang and he answered-
"Klaus?"- yeah. I am with Y/N/E. We are about to get something to eat- yeah- I'm not sure- Let me ask her- "
"What is it?"- Y/N/E asked.
"He - well- just asking we would meet- what do you think? If you want it to be just us- it's perfectly fine"
"Yeah. I want just us. Sorry- I just-I'm sorry"- Y/N/E said.
Elijah told Klaus that they will have to take a rain check.
The taxi arrived and they hooped in it taking them downtown.
***** Klaus walked into Fiorello's and the waiter showed him over to his table. It was one of the restaurants the Mikaelsons part owned with the chef of this fine establishment. As the waiter asked him what he would like to drink and Klaus answered- "the usual" - his eyes smiled as he now heard Caroline's voice at the table nearby.
He got a paper and a pen out of his computer bag. He wrote the following-'where y'at?' He then asked the waiter to take it to where the blinde was sitting, also tellung the man to take a complementary drink of the best champagne over.
Upon receiving the note, Caroline looked at the waiter and as he told her it was from Klaus Mikaelson, she looked at him with her stunned blue eyes.
Klaus waved with his hand a little curling up a charming smirk on his lips. Lexi and the rest picked up on it- and said in a very positive way -
"You know the Mikaelsons?"
"The Mikaelsons?"- Caroline uttered clumsily and then understanding that it was a good thing confirmed that it was so.
"That's one family that is always in the news."- the news director said.
Caroline took the glass of champagne and raised her glass a little looking at Klaus. He smiled back at her.
Was it fate or pure circumstance- she wondered. Whatever it was, she would lie if she said she wasn't drawn to this man.
As her lunch was over and the others went, she walked over to his table putting her hand out to him.
"Caroline Forbes"
"Nice to meet you, Caroline Forbes."- he shook her hand-"would you care to join me for another drink?"
"I don't mind if I do?"- Caroline said sitting down across from him.
"You were sitting with Lexi Branson- the famous headhunter- so I am guessing you came to NYC for a job?"
"Yes."- Caroline said.
"I presume by the way they were all happy scampering off- you got the job?!"- Klaus continued.
"I did."- Caroline confirmed.
"Congratulation. This calls for celebration. Champagne?"
Caroline agreed.
She knew her life was changing but she could never imagine how much it would.
****
Y/N/E and Elijah went to a quaint place called the Little Owl- one of Y/N/E's favourite places. Although her family and his were rich, she would, nevertheless, do what pleased her, being true to herself. Often she would be called a unicorn. And during their dinner she told Elijah what she had done the day before when she went out.
"Taking photos. I want to do collage - I got this idea- Bonnie said that if I felt like doing art again- I should. And I want to."
"Of course. You can do anything you want."- he said.
"I cut some of the photos- and just put them together- "
"But finally- it will be very different"- Y/NE said.
Elijah took her scrapbook and looked at the photo of her with the T-shirt on that said 'Always'
"Always"- he muttered-
"Oh, I actually found that T-shirt"- Y/N/E said- "there is a story behind it- I can tell."
"There is"- Elijah said-"I wrote it to you in a note- the morning after we spent the first night together- Love you, always."
"You had to go somewhere?"- Y/N/E asked.
"I had an early flight- I had a conference to go to. I used to work as a financial adviser- ahm- it was a week after the bonfire night- we were at Sophie's birthday party and I brought you home- and you were just so hot in the dress you were wearing- and we would say it- if we are leaving for the day- or finishing the conversation on the phone."
"Vicky said that we had the love of all time-"- Y/N/E then said-"why would someone want to kill me?"
"Muggings happen here all the time. And - it happened- to you-"- Elijah said.
"Why do you look at me - sometimes- with such sadness? It's because of the attack?"
Elijah nodded- even though it was not the real truth. But he couldn't tell her about the baby, at least not yet. He didn't know how she would take it.
"Ok. No more sadness. I am sorry if I- you were such a long time in the vegetative state. So, from today on- no more of the sad."
"Exactly. I am here. I woke up. I feel good. So no more sadness! Deal?"- Y/N/E said agreeing.
"It's a deal"- Elijah said and jokingly they shook on it.
Y/N/E wanted to go home and after he took care of the bill, they left.
At home, Y/N/E went to her room to change and Elijah answered his phone calls, especially the one from Rebekah.
"Why were you not answering my calls? Klaus called me- and he said he talked to you and you sounded weird- he said you were with Y/N/E- so what happened????"
Elijah then retold her briefly where he went and what had happened. Also about the kiss and Y/N/E, finding their ground together.
"You could have texted me! "- Rebekah said-"I was worried about you. You didn't look good."
Elijah then heard Y/N/E call him- and he said his goodbyes to Rebekah returning to the lounge from the little balcony.
Y/N/E wore now the T- shirt with the ‘Always’ sign on. She got the beers and the bowl of popcorn in her hands as she came in the lounge from the kitchen.
"I don't know what we used to do when we were home- movie?"- Y/N/E suggested.
"We would watch movies sometimes. So, what have you got?"- Elijah asked.
"I don't know. There is so much catching up I need to do"- Y/N/E said.
"You have a list?"
She nodded. She gave him the list and he now looked at it.
"We really have a lot of catching up to do!"- Elijah looked at the list Y/N/E had compiled.
He put the TV on and looked for the movie channel, and got the first one on her list and clicked play.
They made themselves comfortable on the sofa and so their evening of catching up of so many things lost started.
Overwhelmed by the day and all that had happened, both of them fell asleep in the middle. Making herself more comfortable, she put her head on his shoulder. Feeling her, Elijah now snapped out of the sleep. He looked at her wrapping her hand around his waist. Her nearness made him so warm and fuzzy inside. And he wanted to stay like this forever.
"Y/N/E-"- he said softly, gently caressing her head -"come -"-
He slowly her head away from his shoulder-"let me take you to bed"- She opened her eyes muttering-"I am sorry- I was so tired"
"Me as well"- Elijah said.
As he wanted to pick her up- she stood up and rubbing her eyes a bit said- "I want to sleep with you. I don't want to be in that other bedroom anymore. You don't have to carry me."
"Ok. Well, then- bedtime!"- Elijah said switching the TV off. The lights.
It felt like a thousand years- having her back with him.
"Which is my side?"- Y/N/E asked.
"The right one"- Elijah said.
"Ok"- Y/N/E slumped down.
He laid down next to her. Watching her for a long while till he fell asleep himself whispering- "Love you always!"

Elsewhere
Kol woke up all in sweat- as Sophie shook him as he was muttering stop- stop-stop-
"Huh"- he looked at his wife as if he had just got out Hell and was not quite there in the real world.
"You had a nightmare again"- Sophie said putting her hand on his cheek focusing his look onto hers-"everything is fine. You are at home"
Kol took a moment and then gulping a bit said- "it was so real. They were kicking me and I could not get out- and they wouldn't stop-"
"The same faceless people?"- Sophie asked.
"Yes"- Kol said- "it's the same dream"- Kol now got up walking into the en-suite straight into the shower. He let the water pour down onto his head as leaned forward putting the hand on the wall. He flashed back to the last conversation he had with Jeremy Gilbert.
"They will hunt you down"- Kol said to Jeremy-"you are playing with fire. They are dangerous people who don't care who they have to hurt to get what they want. Quit now before you get into deep. I can help you"
"I don't need anybody's help. Especially not from YOU!"- Jeremy shouted back at Kol.
Kol now grabbed Jeremy by the collar clenching his teeth, trying to not go overboard and kick him-
"At least think of your sister, your parents. I couldn't care less what happens to you- crackhead- but Y/N/E is now Elijah's wife and she is family and if something happens to her- means it happens to Elijah and it happens to me and my family- so get a grip!!!"
As Kol let go, Jeremy swung at the man punching him right in the face. Kol punched him back and then as Jeremy was ready to continue- Kol stepped back- putting both of his arms up telling Jeremy that he was not worth his time. He turned around and left his father's study exiting through the patio doors into the terrace.
"Are you all right?"- Sophie asked as she got in the bathroom herself.
Kol looked at her now.
"I have kept something from everyone."- Kol said.
"What, Kol?"- Sophie looked at him nervously.
Kol took a moment and then said exhaling- "That I might know who killed Jeremy- "
"What-"- Sophie felt like someone punched her in the gut.
"You don't know these people. They could kill us all!"
"OMG!"- Sophie now put her hands on her head-"You have to tell the police"
"I have done."- Kol said-"I went. Yesterday. And-" - he now took his wife's hands in his- "Soph- "
She knew that something bad was coming as he looked at her in a manner that was way too serious for him.
"I agreed to get involved as a part of undercover thing."
"No! How?- You are a civilian! It doesn't make sense- you are too exposed- with the whole court case"
"I have to do something. I was running away from it all for such a long time and I owe it to everyone. You. Me. Jeremy. Y/N/E and Elijah"- Kol said.
"I am so scared"-Sophie now admitted.
"Everything is going to be all right"- he now embraced her placing a kiss on her head. Sophie held him close.
***** Rebekah's morning started with a message of goodbye from Matt. And there it was, yet another hook up. She put the phone down on the table. How was it that she was so unlucky in love? Kol had Sophie, Elijah had Y/N/E, only Klaus and had never really found love that made them tremble to the very core of their being.
Her phone went again and she answered -
"Klaus?"-
"Listen- I need a favour."
"You are asking for favours?"- Rebekah was stunned.
"The Lockwoods are hosting the Charity Ball and I need you to get one person on the list with a special invitation"
"Oh? Who?"
"Caroline Forbes!"- Klaus said-"she is the news presenter on INYC."-
Rebekah paused for a moment and Klaus now continued-
"I have asked you nicely- this means a lot to me"- Klaus said-"I am meeting a client- so I have to hang up- talk to you later"
"Right"- Rebekah slipped and they both hang up.
Rebekah googled Caroline Forbes to see the woman who clearly robbed her brother's heart if he was asking such major favour from his sister.
****
In the penthouse, Elijah woke up and still half asleep rose up in the bed looking now at Y/N/E's side of the bed that was empty. He rubbed his eyes and got up calling out for his wife. There was no answer and he walked out of the bedroom walking through the corridor towards the kitchen as he heard music coming from it. He stood still at the door with a smile on his face.
Y/N/E was standing at the cooker, flipping pancakes and humming the song that was playing, swaying with the music a little-
"When I'm with you - when I am with you-
I am standing with an army- standing with an army...
- yeah- standing with an army-
when I’m with you..."
Y/N/E now turned to put the plate with the pancakes on the central hub when she saw him standing at the door nearly being frightened half to death- "OMG-Hey- huh-"-
"Hey- oh- sorry - "- he said now approaching her looking at the breakfast feast she had prepared placing his hand on her lower back - "wow- when did you get up?"
"An hour ago- I think- I didn't want to wake you- you were so relaxed- and I thought I'd make some breakfast- This is all healthy- these are oatmeal pancakes- I got it from that recipe book"- she said.
"Well, I am hungry. Ok. Let me wash my face and I'll be back"- Elijah said.
"I have coffee ready- one sugar, right?"- Y/N/E said.
"Right. You learn fast"- he joked a little.
Y/N/E continued placing the fruits on his and hers pancakes- pouring the strawberry couli on it. There were also gluten-free zucchini-bacon egg muffins on the table as well. She then realized she made food for a little army.
"Ah, well- "- she thought-"I will have take it to my mom's"
Elijah returned and they sat down together to eat. This reminded him of their weekends, when they would lounge in the morning, at this hub, talking about anything that came up- as Vicky said- there were endless topics they would tackle.
"How do you like the muffins?"- Y/N/E asked.
"They're good. You didn't forg..."- he then stopped himself and Y/N/E reminded him to speak his mind whatever it was. No holding back.
"Ok- ahm- you didn't forget to cook."
"I think I have the magical touch. Cooking is like art, I guess."- Y/N/E said.
"That is one true thing about you- your brought your artistic touch into everything."- Elijah said.
"We always talk about me- but I want you to talk about yourself- what is it that you like and dislike? How come from all the other women you were with- you married me?"-
One thing he liked Y/N/E was that there was beating around the bush- even though the onlookers would not have said that when they started to get acquainted.
"Uh, always with the tough questions!"- he continued in the joking manner and smiling he retorted- "You can kiss like no other woman!"
It was clear to Y/N/E that he was playing a copycat game-
"So you looked for the shoe that fits? Right!"
Elijah smiled. That was Y/N/E- cryptic and always talking with some association involved- mostly with a comment from a fairy story or other stories. Oh, the truth was that he loved the way she kissed him, but he also loved the way she saw the world, her open-minded view about life, the positive and mostly her big heart.
Elijah's Flashback
One night at ‘Daniel's’ - a few weeks before bonfire night
Elijah walked in the bar and smiled a little as he saw Y/N/E sitting at the bar talking on the phone with her friend.
"Hello, there"- he said as he came up to where she was sitting at the bar.
"Hey-"- she said now letting Vicky know she was going to call her back later-"Ah- alone? Where is your possy?"
"My possy?"
"I thought you Mikaelsons never ride alone?!"- Y/N/E joked.
"One of them will soon arrive I am sure."- Elijah said.
He now ordered Bourbon neat and Y/N/E made a remark that things at work must have been rough.
"Oh, no. Work is bliss. We are having a formal dinner with Father and Mother in a couple of hours."- he explained.
"It's that bad?"
"It's very formal- need I say more?!"- Elijah said.
"And you would love to invite the Madhatter to the party, right?!"
"Something like that"- Elijah said smiling back at her-"and you no friends, either?"
"Vicky is out with Jason and I- just wanted a drink- looking for inspiration for my new project."- she had a scrap-book with her as always- it was open and Elijah had a little peek.
There were a lot of heart etchings on the page in a ll different ways -
"Heart is your theme?"- Elijah asked
Y/N/E looked at the open scrap-book-
"No. I just etched things when I am on the phone- subconsciously"
Elijah snapped back asking Elena what she had planned for the day.
"I have my session at 3 p.m. with Dr Bennett"- Y/N/E said-"but I am free most of the day."- she answered.
"How about we have supper with Bex, Klaus and Kol? Are you up to being with them all together?"- he asked.
Y/N/E nodded.
The doorbell rang and Elijah looked surprised - the only two people who had permission to go by the doorman were their cleaner Mrs Thompson and Rebekah, but she was supposed to be at work.
As Elijah let her in, the blonde apologized for the intrusion, but she had to check up on both of them because of all that had happened the day before.
Elijah ushered her into the kitchen. Y/N/E greeted her sister-in-law offering her breakfast.
"Where did you order those pancakes? They look delicious "
"Y/N/E made those"- Elijah said.
"I know how to cook"- Y/N/E said to Rebekah-"I just don't know who you people are"
"Rebekah!"- Rebekah said-kind of in a reminding voice.
Elijah smirked as he knew that this will now be fun.
"I know that! I learnt that much from the photos!"- Y/N/E said-"you are the good sister?!"
"Right. Well, I think I am. I am the only sister they got."- Rebekah said in a very important manner.
Y/N/E put a plate out for her sister-in-law and she now took a pancake.
"So, what else brings you here?"- Elijah asked, as he knew his sister well. There was far more going on. He knew that she used the excuse the need to check up on him and Y/N/E, to dish out something more.
"Klaus called me this morning to tell me that I should put - Caroline Forbes on the Ball list!"- Rebekah said significantly.
Y/N/E looked at Elijah not understanding why it was such a big deal. He explained.
"Klaus did not have a significant date since - I don't know- and to make such a request it meant he had fallen for that particular woman, Caroline- hard!"
"Wow- right"- Y/N/E remarked and was oblivious to what it actually meant- and then asked- "What Ball?"
Elijah now let Rebekah explain-
"There is this annual charity Ball- we- ahm- "- she stopped there - as she wanted to say that the Mikaelsons used to host till Jeremy Gilbert got killed and they gave up due to the incident , so Elijah took over-
"It's a Charity Ball- we all used to go to."
"You didn't- because of me?"- Y/N/E said.
Elijah nodded. There was also the reason more, but he had no heart to go into explaining about Jeremy. Not like that. Bonnie suggested they did it in a session, when the time was right for Y/N/E to grasp everything. Miranda had also agreed to postpone it for a little while longer.
"Only Klaus and I went"-Rebekah then said-"I chair the Charity and I also didn't have a date, so we went together. It's always a plus-one kind of a thing, which brings me to the fact that I will not have a plus-one this year. Annoying -"
"I am sure Klaus can ask Lucien nicely to be your plus-one- "- Elijah suggested.
"Oh, please not him. He will think this is it!"- Rebekah said.
"How about Alexander?"- Elijah then said smirking a little.
"Seriously? He will think I want to get back with him. Oh, doesn't matter. I'll think of something."- and as she saw this was turning to be too much of a show about her disastrous love life, and Y/N/E watched as if she was in a theater, Rebekah changed the subject -
"But before the Ball we have dinner at father and mothers on Saturday, and I hear from mother that you agreed to come."- she turned to her brother.
"Yes, I agreed."- Elijah said and now looked at Y/N/E with apologetic eyes- "sorry, I have not come round to tell you, Y/N/E"
"That's ok. What is a big deal?"- Y/N/E said.
"He hates these formal family dinners that mother makes us have once a month."- Rebekah explained-"Oh, I remember your first formal dinner together-"
"Yes- please tell me"- Y/N/E was eager to know more.
Rebekah wanted to start but Y/N/E's phone rang, interrupting them. It was Miranda and Y/N/E excused herself, and went out to talk to her mother. As she left the kitchen, Rebekah turned to her brother-
"You seem like- everything is sunshine-??"-
"We slept together"- Elijah then said.
"You did?? Great!"
"No. I mean- we slept together- in our bedroom- next to one another "- Elijah clarified.
"That is a major step. Oh, seriously. That is great!"- Rebekah went all mushy.
"Yes. It all feels like it's going to be all good!"- Elijah said happily.
"Good!!"- Rebekah exclaimed.
Y/N/E returned letting them know that she was meeting her mother tomorrow for lunch.
Rebekah now asked them what was their plan for the day. Elijah had nothing in particular. He mentioned something about all siblings meeting for supper or going to the bar later.
"What are you wearing for the formal dinner then?"- Rebekah said to Y/N/E.
"I don't know - there is tones of dresses in my walk-in closet"- Y/N/E replied.
"Seriously? That is so last century. How about we go shopping?"- Rebekah suggested.
She was known to do things out of the blue, but Y/N/E loved the idea and accepted the invitation to go with her. Even though she and Rebekah were good, they never went shopping together. Everything was new to Y/N/E in so many ways, so one more thing was not a big deal.
"Ok. So when ever you are ready we can go"- Rebekah said.
"Now?"- Y/N/E was somewhat surprised.
"Yes. I took a day off. At least I can have some fun today"- she said.
Y/N/E was fine with it. As Elijah said- all was an adventure. Y/N/E went to change and Rebekah asked Elijah now about his conversation with Esther.
"It's all part of - let's start fresh-"- Elijah explained his reason why he agreed to go.
Rebekah nodded smiling a bit. She was glad. They were a dysfunctional family in many ways, but Rebekah tried, same as Elijah to mend the ways as much as they could.
As the women left, Elijah took the business card with Camille O'Connel's name on it. He dialled the number of her office to make an appointment. He had to deal with so much in the last one and a half years and he felt like he was breaking inside and he could not allow to lose himself, especially now that he had Y/N/E back, and deep down he felt that dark clouds were not cleared away from the horizon.
*****
And the day went, quite swimmingly. Y/N/E had actual fun trying different cocktail-dresses on. Choosing a couple of them finally. And her time with Rebekah resulted in great fun stories they had over the years together. Y/N/E had urged her to tell her also things that were sad, but Rebekah refused.
"Had been doing the sad with Elijah since your attack, and then after you slipped in the coma- enough of it. Now we are doing fun!"
"He had stopped working because of me?"- Y/N/E remarked.
"He stopped living"- Rebekah said-"sometimes I actually had to make him eat. He didn't want to know about anything."
Y/N/E sighed a little- "I can see this sadness in his eyes and I wish I can erase it."
"You will. Now that you are back- even though not completely- I mean your memory thing- but you kissed and wow- that was a major thing- everything will be fine in the world now."
"I am reading Alice in Wonderland- and seriously- this so sounds like something from the wonderland- a kiss makes it all right"- Y/N/E said.
"And wasn't it?"- Rebekah asked.
Y/N/E nodded- thinking shortly about what she had written in her diary that morning-
"The kiss was like thousand birds released inside of my heart- and damn, I want to be kissed by him forever-"
The phone ringing interrupted their lunch and Rebekah confirmed that she will organize the siblings supper near ’Daniel's’.
They stayed a while longer and Y/N/E then went on to her meeting with Bonnie. And Rebekah rang Elijah to report how things went with her and Y/N/E.
After her session Y/N/E went straight home. She had to share alk she had discussed with Bonnie.
"Intensive memory exercises?"- Elijah repeated as she explained.
"Yes. Something new and experimental. I will not be working with Bonnie anymore but Dr Stefan Salvatore"- Y/N/E explained-"I want to try and get - everything back- I want to remember you and me- the way we were- maybe even remember something about the attack- I want to know things- everything Rebekah told me today- and also Vicky and you- my life was really good- and I want it back. I want this."- she looked at him for approval, not that she needed any- he made it clear to her that he would support her at anything.
"I am fine with it"- Elijah then said.
"Thank you"- she said-
"Hey- I want things back, too. I just - don't want you to take too many things- or get frustrated or disappointed"
"I know. You are scared that it might not work- but I have to try. I need to."- she said- "I have to go and change because we are going out, right- and I bought a nice dress."
She was excited and positive and he shared that - and this night should be about positive things.they were going out, and it felt like old times almost. He would be waiting for her to get ready and she would come out looking like a queen making him weak in his knees always and so it was this time around as well. He could look at her forever.
"Elijah, are you ok"- Y/N/E asked. "Yes, Y/N/E”- he said nearing her-"very”
He put his hand out to her and she placed hers in his. She looked straight in his eyes saying-"Shall we go to the tea party, Madhatter?" Elijah froze for a second. This was exactly what she had said to him when they went to his family's formal dinner party.
His heart smiled and he replied with a firm yes.
