the first iteration of wonder man's backstory, to be later expanded upon in the west coast avengers v1 & v2 arcs. simon is bailed out of jail by encantress & the executioner, after being found guilty for embezzlement.

simon displays his powers after recieving his suit, showing incredible strength, speed, & flight with his new rockets. after, when executioner fears simon would betray or attack them, zemo reveals the cost of his powers; simon will die in a week without taking a special antidote. this is where simon's fear of death is first set up; he's willing to be subserviant to villains & trick well known superheroes to kill them in order to avoid death, at least initially.

simon recieves his the first version of his powers, given to him by zemo. he also recieves his costume & name, and the relationship with enchantress that writers will play with in later comics such as marvel comics presents & his 1991 solo series is first established.
