yes pls tell us abt ur ocs 👀👀👀
WELL, I’m so glad you asked! Dump incoming:
Ira is an uptight, straight-edge-before-straight-edge bassist and frontman of Fagocyte, a hardcore punk band in 1979 hailing from Orange County. He’s very rigid in his belief that hardcore = DIY, and he’s the kinda guy who if you asked if he had a lighter would respond “I don’t poison my mind and body with chemicals”. But despite the prickly exterior, he deeply cares about his community and will viciously defend anyone The System™ casts aside.
Diego, our main character, is a stoner punk from LA who just wants to play his bass and be a homosexual and get by in life. His band, The Vents, has been struggling to find their place as the punk scene changes rapidly around them, and they find themselves experimenting on both ends of punk's new fun synth-pop and angry hardcore divide.
When Ira hears the suspiciously commercial sound of The Vents' newest music, he doesn't hide his disdain: he hates when punk bands sell out and can't understand why Diego doesn’t seem to care at all about the culture or ethos of hardcore (or punk for that matter) despite being in a band that has roots in the genre. Ira seems to pick a fight whenever they’re within 40 yards of each other, which is a lot because Ira helps organize for DIY spaces and music production. Diego doesn’t get why this short angry punk seems to have something very specific against him when a lot of punk bands have gone way more commercial than them, but it doesn’t seem like Ira truly knows either (it’s because he thinks Diego is hot but he won’t admit it).
More under the cut -> -> ->
Jumpcut: they figure it out and get together.
Now, Ira might seem like a self-depriving hard-ass, but the end goal of what he’s all about is experiencing life unfiltered and to the fullest. In bed, he’s into dominating guys into getting fatter and has had several play partners he’s helped gain varying amounts of weight. Diego on the other hand is a jack-of-all-perversions in the BDSM and Leather scenes, and is an experienced dom but he’s flexible. He’s always been fat and whenever times are harder and he drops some weight, he always tries to get it back up again whenever he has the chance. So, although he’d never heard of it before, he's totally into Ira making him fatter.
Ira isn't particularly skinny himself, but is strictly into feeding and encouraging, and strictly into domination. As Ira slowly lets Diego get to know him, though, Diego begins to suspect there’s more to that story than Ira’s saying.
Bonus: Ira’s 'little brother'/‘son’ (no relation) is Jesse, a 15-year-old delinquent who Ira discovered vandalizing his van after a gig and took him under his wing. Jesse is the human equivalent of opening a roughed-up soda can and no amount of Benzedrine can keep him in a single spot for more than a minute at a time. But Ira stuck a pair of drumsticks in his hands and he shortly thereafter became Fagocyte’s drummer, helping catapult their sound from gritty punk to high-energy, infectious hardcore.
I haven’t spent time thinking about the other band members since a few years ago when this story was about modern-day explicitly feedist bands, and they weren't even developed in a lot of detail back then, so they’re still pending :)
#Thanks for asking!! And always down to talk about them more haha#How come whenever I edit a post with a cut it moves the cut a paragraph lower...#(edited this with updates as of 6/6 🤫)
