i loved this movie as a kid and still do to this day and i just wanted to try something like this. if you have never seen this movie, i suggest you go watch it. such a classic. so if you know, you know.

    She knew it was unwise to indulge in so many sweets, but Celica couldn’t help herself when faced with such a diverse array of pastries and delicacies. Stereotype it may be, but Zofians were known for their love of food. And as princess to the nation, she was certainly no exception.

    Though her expression betrayed no visible emotion, the young royal is rather pleased with her ice cream. The bittersweet flavor of orange creamsicle, topped with whipped cream and orange zest... it reminds her of climbing trees with Alm, picking ripe oranges and their beautiful blossoms, or sharing cold treats with Mae and Boey on hot summer days. Every taste carried a nostalgic memory of home. But as she is consumed by sweet reminiscence, Celica fails to notice the sinister presence looming overhead.

    Celica’s bubble of content is promptly burst by the weight that lands on her head, the queen starting and yelping at the sudden contact. Whatever it is proceeds to move through her hair, falling and sliding off of her bangs, right into—

    “Eugh!?” She jumps back, dropping her ice cream and the small, slimy frog that had fallen into it. Orange cream splatters messily across the ground, and the frog quickly hops away, as if fearing the wrath it caused. And her ire is certainly drawn, not towards the poor amphibian used as a tool, but to the person who had dropped it in the first place.

    She turns to face the perpetrator, somehow not surprised to see the Hevring heir. There was something about him that did not seem above such petty acts, but since she hardly knew the man, she couldn’t place the source of that feeling. “...Linhardt.” Her gaze is cold, voice carrying an even deeper chill. No titles, no niceties. He’d lost that right. Sharply, Celica points to her ruined treat. “My ice cream.”

linhardt laughs.

it’s different than the lukewarm titters that the hevring boy tends to give. no, as celica is startled and the frog flops off her radiant locks, he gives an actual guffaw. it startles linhardt himself, originally not expecting the prank to be anything but a momentary bout of devious fun. he thinks, perhaps the fatigue is finally making him delirious for celica’s ire shouldn’t be as hilarious as it is, and the stiffness in her tone causes the boy to give a thought of reconsideration. perhaps he should apologize, for that laugh certainly made his intention appear more malicious than what he had originally planned…

oh, but he couldn’t help himself. it was hilarious.

“yes, that’s your ice cream.” linhardt shrewdly confirms. he saw it in her hand moments ago. he watches as the delicacy begins to melt against cobblestone and waddles a step back, as if to ensure the sticky substance doesn’t come close to his boots. a bout of silence makes the stiffness in the atmosphere grows and, with his amusement short-lived, the hevring boy becomes more aware of celica’s silent wrath. he shifts awkwardly in place, “my apologies, but it appears that even i happened to be swayed by the infectious nature of today’s festivities.” and normally such antics would be reserved for his best friend caspar, who seems to be away doing… well, caspar-like things, linhardt supposes.

“you can also just buy another one.” he adds in as an afterthought, “as you are a queen, i hardly suspect that you are lacking in wealth.”
