Fun fact: Professors don't give the pokekon their common names; only their scientific names. When talking about pokemon, or any organism, researchers will often use their scientific name because of language barriers and all that, and scientific names are universal. Common names come from people, which, personally, I find amazing. There are so many pokemon with word combinations, lol. One region calls Bulbasaur, "Wonderful tree frog!" That's just beautiful

In China, the frog has long been associated with water and rain. Frogs acted as messengers of floods and formed the retinue of the Prince of the River. Since it was believed that frog eggs fall to the ground along with rain or dew, frogs were also called “heavenly hens” (“tien-chi”).
