This woman is magic. I have worked with Melinda and her daughter @kimcolwelldesign for about a decade to energetically create healthier living and working environments. Kim is the Feng shui practitioner, and Melinda is the Shaman. @instituteshambhalla. We’ve been through some heavy stuff together. This week I got to dress her up. tbh i feel like MB is running into the same problem that not-a-cat-person people have, where being still, avoiding eye contact, and refusing to enter the personal space of a human unless it is an emergency make it seem nonconfrontational and unthreatening. The way it fakes complete competence in emergency situations and goes Full Alert about security make it seem reassuring. Its preference for covering, soft clothing (long sleeved shirts and sweaters and hoodies) make it seem more approachable. The friendclients it is usually approached by also have pretty hard evidence that MB would rather take a bullet than see them hurt, and humans aren’t good at seeing someone get shot for them and NOT getting emotionally invested.

MB is trying to go “don’t look at me don’t talk to me don’t acknowledge me” but it, unfortunately, is tall and built as all hell, which makes it read as “safe big person who isn’t into aggro bullshit” instead. I don’t know how things are going in the corporate dystopia space future, but big buff people who stay out of everyone’s personal space and avoid conversation and eye contact give off a vibe that they are -aware- of their physical size intimidation factor and actively Not Using It, which has a running correlation in people’s heads to “won’t try to be scary just to be an asshole, probably chill, let’s be friends”. There’s also this interesting trend where some people on the taller and bigger end of the scale are hesitant or reluctant to stand up for themselves in social interactions, because they’re aware that firming their stance or voice would be perceived as an escalation of the situation. This is why they frequently have small, terrifying friends who stick up for them. I don’t think we’ve seen a human yet that’s taller than MB? MB Is the big Quiet One who collects small, pissed off, don’t-you-dare-talk-to-it-like-that humans. 

MB also makes an effort to be calm and clear and a little warm when speaking to clients in distress, which really doesn’t improve its chances of avoiding human expressions of gratitude and overtures of friendship.

Also humans love to adopt scary things as friends literally the moment that they think it won’t kill them. This is how people get eaten by pet crocodiles.

I have no idea what MB looks like but I've come to the conclusion it looks really non-threatening 90% of the time. MB can make people back off quickly if it acts confrontational, but a surprising number of people decide it's a reassuring presence. It has been bugged for relationship advice, bugged about its feelings, asked for hugs, had young women wanting to sleep in the same room as it...

Today my friendclient Alex aka @dreadlock_paradise came to see me for this shorter session to start poking the color and shading into these huge peonies! This tattoo is finally starting to REALLY come to life, and I am both encouraged by the sight and spurned forward to keep working on this enormous piece that commemorates the strong and independent women in Alex's life who have shaped and molded her into the bad bitch she is today. ❤️Today is my friendclient Randall's 30th birthday! He came by to pick up a gift that I had for him- (a dope ass serial killer tshirt) and to get a little poke! I also managed to snap this healed pic of an anarchist heart that I poked on him earlier this year in the spring! A pair of jaunty dancing pants on the arm of one of my oldest friends and best clients. This tattoo design was drawn by my client herself, with the express intention of having it tattooed by me after having a conversation concerning how empowering and self-actualizing it can be to wear your own art on your skin. I encouraged my friendclient to draw some of their own flash, and they happily rose to the occasion!
