Could I ask more of Vampjre BF x fem!reader. Pleaseee
Of course!! I’ve been wanting to write more vamps. I can’t wait for Halloween!! This is best friends to bf, hope that’s okay!
When you had suggested getting buzzed with your vampire best friend after he told you he got laid off from his job at The Red Cross it was totally innocent! Did it turn you on whenever he drank from you? Yes. Did you enjoy his blood over sampling over vampires? Yes. But you had no ulterior motive whatsoever.
If something was finally gonna happen between you two then it would! Lower inhibitions or not.
But while you quickly get buzzed off of his blood, he’s taken the same amount and seems completely fine. It has you going from giggling one minute to pouting at the next. You lean in closer to him and his eyes gleam dangerously.
“How are you not affected by my blood?”
Your vampire friend laughs, his raspy voice turning you on even more. He looks up and down your plump form, a claw coming out to trail along the column of your throat.
“I am more affected than you know, precious. But it takes a fresher blood to get a vampire drunk than a human.”
His finger on your neck sends a shiver down your spine yet you manage to hold in your moan. You know what he means yet you still ask anyway.
“What could be fresher than the wrist?”
“The closer it is to the heartbeat the stronger it is,” he purrs, eyes half-lidded and already leaning in.
It takes nothing more for you to bare your neck to him. Wanting his fangs back into you. His eyes flash at your submission and he pounces on you. Taking you down onto the sofa and sliding between your thick thighs. You gasp as his fangs sink into your flesh.
A warm buzzing heat courses through your body. He releases you a moment later with a content sigh and blood on his lips. He grins down at you and your hips twitch in response. Your need rising.
“While you taste as marvelous as always, my love, that’s not the heartbeat I mean,” he rasps before his hand reaches down and cups your pulsing cunt.
You two stare into each other’s eyes for a long moment, your breath shaky, before you can no longer take it. “Please,” you beg.
His hands are all over you like he’s been waiting an eternity to finally have you in his embrace. Your clothes are off but his fangs quickly cover you full of his sharp bites, making a path down your body and to your drenched core.
“I’ve waited so long to take you as mine. And you are mine, aren’t you, beautiful?” He asks as he grabs handfuls of your plush thighs and spreads you further.
Before you can even answer his mouth on you, lapping up your fat cunt like he’s been lost in the dessert and only now found water. You cry out, writhing on his tongue as pleasure bursts through you.
“Y-yes, yes, god yes!” You shout, hands weaving into his hair so you can grind against his face.
Your vampire best friend turned… possible boyfriend growls, eagerly encouraging being suffocated by your warm pussy. If he could be suffocated that is.
He ravages you without mercy. His tongue swiping along your slit and igniting your every nerve before dipping into your fluttering core and tasting you directly from the source. He can’t seem to stop, not even as you squirm and shake. He merely holds onto you tighter, keeping your delicious body firmly against his face. Growing more and more drunk off your sweet taste.
The minute he starts sucking on your clit as though he’s trying to suck you dry, you explode all over his face, soaking it with your release. He immediately sinks his fangs into you and you scream, your orgasm doubling over tenfold and your vision flashing white.
You’re panting heavily as your release moves through you and you blink rapidly to try and regain your sight and come down from such a high. Your vampire bf starts to move up your body and you look down at him, noticing a wet spot staining the couch. Your pussy clenches around nothing as you realize he’d cum just from your taste.
He nuzzles into your neck but instead of trying to sneak another taste, he simply soaks up your warmth. While you use his cold skin to help you cool down. The two of you balancing each other out as you always have. Now doing so no longer as friends but as lovers. Both of you ending up getting exactly what you wanted out of this little hangout.

so ateez released some multi-use fragrance oils exclusively to japan recently, each one customised for each individual member. although i can't get my hands on them just yet, i do have access to their scent profiles, so for anyone else who's desperately curious about what they might smell like, i've attempted to describe them all below!
fragrance terms for reference:
top notes: the initial scents smelled on application - usually the lightest/sharpest scents used (e.g. citrus or super powdery/light floral scents);
middle notes: the scents that appear once the top notes have faded - generally considered the central core or heart of a fragrance. they're usually fuller/smoother than top notes (e.g. cinnamon/spices or fuller floral scents like jasmine);
base notes: the scents that form the foundational structure of a fragrance, underpinning the top and middle notes and generally being the most long-lived scents that linger after application (usually woody scents, or musks);
accords: blends of notes that form the character profile of a perfume (e.g. woody or floral). they're the text in coloured bubbles in the images below the cut.
some general impressions:
yeosang & wooyoung seem to have the most overtly masculine-smelling oils.
seonghwa & san seem to have the most traditionally feminine-smelling oils.
hongjoong, yunho, mingi, and jongho all seem to have relatively gender-neutral scents. yunho's might lean the most masculine of the four, but all four are fairly ubiquitously pleasing.
all of them are Very Fitting imo!! whoever put these scent profiles together did a really good job of capturing the essence of each of the guys.
individual oils are under the cut because there are 8 of them:
hongjoong:
hongjoong's oil's scent profile sounds to me like it'd smell like the air after warm spring rain, a fresh forest, and home. the top notes mix orange-citrus with herby scents to create a fresh initial scent. i don't know if this is the case for everyone, but for me, if mint is a top note, it immediately becomes the most dominant scent in the whole thing (with a few small exceptions).
hongjoong's whole scent is pretty light! i mention a lot of headiness in a lot of the others, but for the most part, hongjoong lacks it. jasmine, magnolia, and amber provide the brunt of any robustness in this oil, but white musk is a cleaner, lighter alternative to musk, lacking that deep, animalic base and instead being something softer and more powdery. olibanum is somewhat lemony, while still being green and herby in scent, with a touch of pepperiness and woodiness that blends nicely into the sandalwood, which has a light, green initial top note that then melts into something creamy, rich, and deep-woody.
tl;dr - largely minty/herby, with a citrusy undertone that melts into a nice, rich woodiness towards the end. comforting is definitely right here - it's relaxing, not particularly overpowering or overly intoxicating like some of the other oils :)
seonghwa:
as i said to @starseongs a few days ago, this scent profile gives sensual, in control femininity, which i absolutely LOVE for him, but it isn't delicate by any means - it's got the strength of a more masculine scent, with plenty of animalic notes from the top all the way to the base that are offset by sharper, fresher notes to prevent it from becoming too cloying.
orange blossom in the top note is already overwhelmingly complex - it's sweet, and heady, and a touch soapy at times. it's not too far apart from the scent of jasmine, if that's more familiar, to get an idea of the sort of animalic, almost musky sweetness of orange blossom. a cassis top note is also super interesting - it's shades of musk (again) and tonka, which is sort of a blend of vanilla and nutty almond, but mossier and less intense. lily is also pretty solid, but waxy and spicy, a little soapy like orange blossom with a hint of honey. it's very common in feminine scents, often a mid or incredibly strong top note.
in the mid notes, rose and blackberry add delicacy and bite respectively, offsetting the incredibly powerful, heady top notes. peony complements rose well, commonly featuring alongside it in perfumes. and the musk-amber-cedarwood base note combo... amber and musk is classic dark sensuality.
if i had to guess, the orange blossom-cassis-blackberry-rose combo probably makes this a pretty fruity, pink-red scent with a heady undertone provided by the powerful base notes (aka delicious <3)
yunho:
like i said in hongjoong's, if mint is a top note, it immediately becomes the most dominant scent in the whole thing - with a few exceptions. eucalyptus is one of those exceptions, and so is mandarin. eucalyptus has a herby, waxy, lemony sort of smell to it to me, and this, combined with the mandarin orange, contributes a very citrusy top note. mandarin orange is usually particularly potent, so i wouldn't be surprised if this was very heavily orangey at first smell.
ylang-ylang is another heady, sweet, almost custard-like, honeyed smell that pairs well with the lemony green of geranium, which in turn has a floral aside that blends nicely with lavender. rosemary is a note that tends to add depth to perfumes and scented oils due to its woody spiciness, cleaning up the syrup of ylang-ylang and reinforcing the tangy top notes.
anise is warm, smoky-sweet, and a touch liquorice-y. it pairs well with musk, which is another warm, very earthy, heavily animalic scent - masculine and strong, providing a strong and lingering foundation.
overall, this scent profile is veeeeery clean. professional. it has a light, herby, citrusy brightness that hides a spicy animal musk, fresh bite that gives way to a warm and heady animalism.
yeosang:
interestingly, other than wooyoung's, yeosang's is the most overtly masculine scent. thyme, cardamom, oakmoss, vetiver - these are all very masculine notes.
thyme, pink pepper, and cardamom create a warm, spicy, almost leathery (thanks to the thyme) top note. cypress pairs well with these, offering a freshness and elegance that complements the spiciness well.
the lavender and geranium middle notes complement one another well - they're typically associated with calm and soothing, but with a kick provided by the geranium, which is a blend of herb, citrus, and fruity floral. a lot of people see it as similar to rose in terms of scent, but with an extra lemony, herby twist that balances it out and masculinises it in comparison.
oakmoss is... well it's mossy. it's an earthy scent that carries notes of musk and amber, and acts well to both prolong and fix scents and also balance out spicier, sharper notes, lending itself to sophistication and refinement. this blends well with the lemony-green olibanum.
vetiver is another earthy, woody scent that is very popular in masculine perfumes / colognes and very associated with masculinity in scent, though it can show up in unisex scents to provide an extra robustness. the undertones of leather and smoke in vetiver are what separates it from other common woody/earthy scents and what also makes it go well with cedarwood, which has a hint of natural smokiness. think bikers and a hint of cigarettes for vetiver.
tl;dr: HEAVILY masculine, musky smell for yeosang, with touches of wood, spice, and smoke that give it an extra warmth and bite, and a greenness from the oakmoss that refines it and adds sophistication and freshness.
san:
the only vanilla accord!! very similar to seonghwa's in terms of accords, but swapping amber for vanilla sweetens and softens the overall profile.
SUPER fruity scent. pear, peach, and ambrette seed in the top notes all have super fruity scents, with ambrette seed also containing notes of pear in it. the top note profile is full and sweet, with an extra apricot-y woodiness from the ambrette seed. very yummy. rose and jasmine in the middle notes add to the sweetness further, with rose providing the same floral delicacy as in seonghwa's and jasmine adding a sort of heady sweetness similar to the orange blossom also in seonghwa's. cedarwood deepens the woodiness first scented in the ambrette seed, adding a warmth and a spice to deepen the profile.
cashmere wood is getting its own bullet point because :( it's one of my favourite notes in perfumes / scented oils. one of my favourite cashmere wood descriptions is one i saw a while ago that said it smells like warm, bronze, sunkissed skin in summer :( if that doesn't make you think of san i don't know what will!! it's often got touches of vanilla in it, which blends nicely into the vanilla and cacao in the base notes.
musk and amber provides much-needed solid sensuality to an otherwise incredibly sweet, fresh, fruit-heavy scent. overall, this is probably one of the strongest scents - romantic, fun, flirty, pink, sunny, and very lovely. sannie :( <3
mingi:
mingi's is pretty interesting. everyone else has either musk or a wood in their base notes, but mingi has neither. this scent overall is herby, a touch floral, a little lemony - warm in a green way, bright and fresh.
bergamot offers a scent of sweet orange with a touch of warm spice. cardamom will reinforce the warmth and spice, and complement the citrusy bergamot by balancing the sweet with a bit of extra zest… it lends itself to a hint of inviting intoxication. this one will smell suuuuuper nice imo. the clary sage might be the most solid animalistic scent in this profile, and even that’s offset by the sleepy sweet powder scent of lavender.
the geranium - as mentioned above in yeosang's, it's a blend of herb, citrus, and fruity floral - and powdery, light, clean white musk contribute to the airiness of this oil.
looking at the others’ oils, 5/8 of them have musk (not white musk (which hongjoong and mingi have), musk) as one of their base notes, and 7/8 of them have either musk or a wood in their base notes - mingi is the only one with neither! musk and woods usually provide that sort of robustness, depth, and warmth to a scent, and mingi's, lacking both, is probably very light, fresh, and airy in comparison to the others, focusing more on its mid and top notes to create the primary scent.
overall a really fresh, light scent - not heavy or robust in the way the others are. refreshing and soothing sounds really right :)
wooyoung:
cardamom, woods, musk, and amber all the way down make for a very solid, masculine scent. it's warm and incredibly woody, with a hint of spice through the top notes that offsets the headiness of the base notes.
the base notes are very heady. musk and amber show up in a few of the others' base notes too, and vetiver also shows up in yeosang's, so i've covered these already - vetiver in particular lends itself to a classically masculine scent. veeeeerrryyyy masculine base notes overall.
if i had to guess, considering the vetiver base note and the fact that sandalwood and cedarwood are mid notes and not base notes, this is probably a veeeeery woody-smelling oil. just natural, earthy, woody, masculine goodness <3
jongho:
lemon, bergamot, and lime top notes offer an immediate, sharp, citrusy goodness.
i'm not sure if orange flower is any different to orange blossom - it could be more akin to neroli, which is similar to orange blossom but less warm, and a touch bitterer. either way, jasmine, lilac, and leafy green notes offer a freshness and natural sweet, rather than something more artificial and sugary, that complements the citrusy top notes well - particularly lilac, which i've found often has an initial scent of citrus itself.
balsamic base notes... 😋 i'm not sure which one specifically this is referring to, or if it's a general mix, but balsamic scents are usually rich-sweet-tangy, with a woody, almost damp sort of smell to it. very thick, very heady, probably also very welcome after all that citrus at the top. it's still a predominantly citrusy oil overall, but the balsamic notes at the base offer a woody offset that tempers it just a little.

There are places I′ll remember All my life though, some have changed Some forever not for better Some have gone and some remain All these places had their moments With lovers and friends I still can recall Some are dead and some are living In my life, I've loved them all But of all these friends and lovers There is no one compares with you And these memories lose their meaning When I think of love as something new Though I know I′ll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life, I love you more In my life, I love you more
— In My Life by The Beatles
Not much to say. I randomly bought the Hellhound for Thyjs, did a job in the Badlands and then thought to pose him in front of the car. You see that didn't work out. Instead I did this (and more).
As always: I take pics first and think about the situation later because I love to interprete my own random doing. I came to the conclusion they had a day off and Thyjs needed some 'fresher' air away from the city and asked Ry to come with. In that way he could also try out his new offroad car (fucking Militech Hellhound yessss. I imagine to become also the team squad car). And after a fun dirt ride over sand and stones they stopped to make a pause in the late afternoon. Thyjs dozed off for a while and Ry doesn't dare to wake him up. <3
And Beatles, because— they are the Beatles and I wanted a cozy sweet song instead of some loud tunes. Besides that it toally fits to them both.

Antarctic Food
Below you will find my account of eating at McMurdo, but PBS did a whole special on it which has more privileged access and, like, moving pictures and stuff. I highly recommend watching that if you're at all interested in the food question.
As other pleasures in life are restricted or eliminated, food gains significance beyond mere nutrition. When removed from the comforts and diversions of civilisation for months or years at a time, polar explorers had to pay particular attention to the culinary side of their enterprise. Scott learned this the hard way on the Discovery, when their cook was so bad he was sent home after the first year and others took over his job in shifts. Shackleton, on his second visit to Antarctica, brought all sorts of tinned delicacies, and left a lot of them behind in his hut at Cape Royds, which the Terra Nova men would raid on day trips from Cape Evans. Scott was much more careful with his choice of cook on his second expedition, and in his journal he continually praises Clissold's cooking – though Atkinson, writing for a publication he knew no one would read, says that Archer (the ship's cook, who filled in after Clissold was invalided home) was a far superior chef, and made the miserable second winter that much more bearable.

The expeditions of the early 20th Century brought down crates and crates of imperishables – tinned vegetables, powdered milk and eggs, and dry goods like flour, sugar, and tea. These were necessary, of course, but were ultimately supplemental to the core of their diet, which was the produce of Antarctica itself. In fact, in a letter laying out contingency plans if the Terra Nova Expedition were stranded in Antarctica, Scott says not to worry for their safety because the continent provides enough food to keep a party happily fed; they would only be wanting the comforts of a civilised menu. Mostly what the continent provided was seals, whose meat (especially livers) contained enough Vitamin C to stave off scurvy, but penguins and their eggs also regularly passed through the kitchen, and the contents of the marine biologist's net – once properly enumerated and dissected, of course – would often end up in the frying pan. The Notothenia fish was commonly eaten at breakfast, appreciated for its 'sweet' and 'nutty' flavour. Notothenia’s claim to fame is the sugar in its blood that acts as an antifreeze, so this is hardly a surprise.
Thanks to the Antarctic Treaty forbidding the killing of animals for consumption, modern Antarctic larders are not stocked with local wildlife, and as far as I know, no one down there now has tasted the sweetness of Notothenia. They do, however, have the advantage of modern transport and food storage, not to mention a century's worth of advances in the study of nutrition, so the diet of the present-day Antarctican is fresher, healthier, and much more diverse.
McMurdo Station's annual food supply arrives in one lump delivery, every January, on a big cargo ship from California. From the harbour where the Discovery berthed, it goes into climate-controlled storage, either to the dry goods store or to the freezer, which is a whole building off the cafeteria in the main station hub. A freezer, in Antarctica? Why, yes, because food safety regulations require frozen food to be kept at a constant temperature, and the only way to ensure that is to build an enormous manmade freezer in the land of ice and snow. In the summer, temperatures at McMurdo will wander around freezing, so this is entirely practical, but for much of the year, it's actually warmer inside the freezer than outside.
The modern Antarctic commissariat is not entirely divorced from its Edwardian predecessor, though – frozen vegetables taste fresher than tinned, and are more nutritious and palatable, but they are not fresh; powdered milk and powdered eggs are still the status quo. During the summer, perishable groceries – called 'freshies' – come down on the flights from New Zealand, if there is room after the passengers and equipment are loaded. After a month of flight cancellations, fresh apples and oranges are greeted with as much delight as they were on the arrival of relief ships in the Heroic Age, and the appearance of a salad bar in the Galley prompts general rejoicing.
The US Antarctic Program has its roots in the Navy, and McMurdo is still provisioned by one of the big firms that supplies the US military. Having had experience with industrial-scale American catering in California, I had moderate expectations of the quality of food at McMurdo, but it was surprisingly good. One might argue that the excitement of being there and the daily energy expenditure would be a good sauce for anything, and this may be true, but against this I would argue that dry air impedes one's ability to taste – that fact it was so flavourful at all is significant. People kept apologising for the food in the Galley and I kept telling them, earnestly, that it was better than the food in the Disney commissary. They didn't believe me, but I firmly attest this; I ate at Disney on my return journey and have confirmed it by direct comparison. I know they were working with roughly the same quality of ingredients, but the chefs at McMurdo reliably made things delightful to eat, which is more than I can say for the other place. Why this should be is anyone's guess ... Working as a Galley Rat is one of the few ways enthusiasts can get down to the Ice, so it's full of keen, intelligent, and curious cooks, and maybe that rubs off on the food. There are people who come back to tackle the unique challenges of Antarctic cuisine year after year, so maybe they're more experienced and invested in the job. My personal theory is that because they have to eat the food, too, of course they're invested in making it tasty – I suspect the folks behind the counter in LA have much better meals waiting for them when they get home.
Mealtimes follow a strict schedule:
5:30-7:30 Breakfast (many a time I missed the cutoff, woe)
11:00-13:00 Lunch
17:00 to 19:30 Dinner. There was always a portion of the cafeteria serving breakfast food at this time; this was reserved for the night shift workers, who got a reprise of the day shift's dinner for their lunch. If you really liked whatever was served for dinner, nothing could stop you coming around again for another go at midnight.
The one exception to this was Sunday, when a brunch would be served from 10 to 12. The service in the chapel started at 10 as well, and was very weak competition. Brunch was always excellent, and being the single day off, was often where one would meet up with people who were too busy during the week.
If you failed to make a mealtime for any reason, there was always something on offer. A fridge would be stocked with packaged leftovers, sandwiches, and other food-to-go – when I had a day out, I would eat breakfast and then grab my lunch from this fridge. On one occasion, dinner included fried okra (one of my faves, rarely had outside the States) and after stuffing myself with it, I nabbed two or three extra portions and cached them in my dorm room mini-fridge to enjoy later.
In a challenging environment, with a lot of people doing energy-intensive jobs, calories are important. There was only one rule regulating portions: Take what you want, but eat what you take. With a finite amount of food on hand, and delivery only once a year, food waste is anathema – if you need it, then eat it, but do not throw any away.
The menu seemed to originate with whatever presented itself in the enormous freezer, though perhaps in November and December it was dictated more by what remained in it, prior to the new shipment. We didn't suffer for want of variety, though: if anything, we benefited from a surfeit of prawns, including great bowls of them at Sunday brunch. I found myself wondering if the US military had a contract for most of the catch from the Gulf, and how much of their famously inflated budget went into that; I suspect, in reality, the kitchen just hit a seam of prawn in the recesses of the freezer and had to use it up. As a devotee of all shapes of sea bug, I was in seventh heaven, and did my level best to help McMurdo clear the surplus.
Once new food was defrosted and cooked up, it would cascade through various dishes down the week, as leftovers were repurposed to minimise waste. Usually this was successful, but sometimes they had to try a little harder ...

A variety of cuisines were offered, some of which were more successful than others. They seemed to reflect the makeup of the US military, for whom the rations would have been designed. The best dishes were the meat-and-potatoes variety (my minder said that if she were on Death Row, she'd ask for McMurdo Pot Roast for her last meal), Italian, Southern (see above re: okra), and what I assume was Tex Mex – the only misstep on the last count was an almost inedibly hot 'taco soup' which may have been more of a delivery vehicle for leftovers than an intentional dish. The only disappointments were anything attempting to be Asian, and the fish, which, due to the circumstances, was always overcooked. Provision was always made for vegetarians and even vegans, but I can't say I noticed many people adhering strictly to those diets. I suppose if the animals are already dead and in the freezer, there's little difference whether you eat them or not.
There was also, always, pizza. It was left in one of those tiered heated racks like you get at a buck-a-slice takeaway pizzeria, but this was no buck-a-slice pizza, this was McMurdo pizza, and McMurdo pizza is AMAZING. My brother-in-law's cousin went to super legit pizza school in Naples, and gets queues down the street wherever he opens a pizzeria. He makes the best pizza I have ever had anywhere; McMurdo’s wasn't quite as good as his, but it was pretty darn close. It's a testament to how good the rest of the food was that I didn't just have pizza for every meal. The pizza kitchen runs 24 hours a day, and takes orders for pickup from all across the base. If you're flying out to a field camp, it's good manners to take their pizza order and deliver it to them hot and fresh. For all the advances in food technology since the Heroic Age, surely the greatest has to be the McMurdo Pizza.
We were reminded constantly how important hydration was, and the Galley offered a range of liquids at all hours. To my surprise, what looked like a soda fountain offered not pop but fruit juice – grapefruit, orange, cranberry, and apple, though one or more often ran out before the end of breakfast. There were enormous urns of extremely weak coffee – a provision, I supposed, for its diuretic effects – though with 10-hour workdays and very early starts, a little more oomph would have gone a long way. Experienced hands, and those of discerning tastes, brought their own coffee or sourced it somehow from the stores. The kitchenette in the Crary library was full of people's personal coffee-making supplies as they sought a more effective brew.
I had been warned that if I liked tea, I should bring my own; this was a sound warning, as the black tea on offer looked and smelled as though it had been on a shelf for about a decade. What I had not been warned about was that the only 'milk' on hand for one's coffee or tea was, in most places, 'coffee whitener', a ubiquitous Americanism which I'd completely forgotten about (or supressed?) since moving away. For those who've not had the privilege of its acquaintance, this is a blend of margarine, sugar, synthetic vanilla, and titanium dioxide, rendered into a powder by some unknown chemical process and packaged up to pass for milk. (I think it might be illegal in Europe. I've certainly not seen it around.) The Galley had the base's only dispenser of actual mammalian lactation – reconstituted from powdered, of course. If I were to go again, I would bring a small bottle to fill there with 'real' milk, which I could take away for tea purposes elsewhere. There were boxes of UHT milk available for purchase in the shop, and had I been staying longer I might have invested in some, but for just a splash per cuppa, it hardly seemed worthwhile.
The undisputed star of the Galley was the soft serve ice cream dispenser, named Frosty Boy (or Boi), an ancient beast that was such an institution that it was rumoured the USAP had bought another one from a junkyard just for parts. The Thing to Do was, instead of putting milk or coffee whitener in your coffee, to use a dollop of Frosty Boy instead – I'm not sure which end of the dairy/non-dairy spectrum his product was nearest, but it did go well in the coffee, such as it was. More often than not while I was there, Frosty Boy exuded only a watery splutter rather than creamy delight – even when he was working, the product was rather gritty – but I was assured he was just going through a phase, and would be right again soon. I got the impression that if anyone tried replacing the machine with something more reliable, or which produced something more resembling ice cream, there'd be a protest. We shall see if Frosty Boy survives the station revamp, as the NSF seems keen to scrub out any vestiges of character ...

I have brought two things back from the McMurdo Galley, and they're things that go right back to the beginning: powdered milk and powdered egg. Even when I'm near a shop with both in fresh form, it's convenient to have the powdered on hand for recipes. I really only use milk to splash in my tea and coffee, so don't keep a large amount in my fridge, but recipes often call for far more than I have – so instead of making a trip for the extra, I can just mix it up on demand. I've also taken on the Perpetual Yoghurt: McMurdo makes its own yoghurt from its vast reserves of powdered milk, using a bit of the last batch to inoculate the next, and it turns out this is perfectly doable at home, too. Eggs eaten as eggs are better fresh, of course, but when providing structure in a recipe, no one's going to notice if they've been reconstituted, and then I can save my 'real' eggs for when they'll be appreciated. It's a good system, and economical, too. Alas, the pizza isn't as easy to replicate at home ...

Just Each Other's
He was my boss. The Richest person in the whole company. The official shareholder of 53% of the Sanemi Corporation's shared.
You'd think he had everything...Trust me, he didn't. He had no family, and he was 100% the MOST undesirable person for any girl.
a) He was short tempered b) He was badly scarred c) He was rude
So in all conclusions, Shinazugawa Sanemi at age 25 had nothing but his brilliance of mind to vouch for him. His parents died a peasant. He brought himself to match the royalty. He was practical, and business minded, and if someone only KNEW about this side of him, without having actually met him in person, they would surely fall for him.
I was 23. A College Graduate, top of her class. I had amazing grades, and pretty good soft skills. What I did NOT have, was looks. I was not good looking one bit. At age 23, no one had confessed to me. I had ugly large spectacles, a freckled face, a....bad physique. Everything in me was particularly unwanted.
But, I was happy the way I was. And the worst thing was that I still believed someone could want me as I was.
When I joined Sanemi Corporations as a member of the PR team, I never imagined that I would have to work so closely with Shinazugawa sir. Someone from the PR team would always tag along with him to ALL the business deal and negotiations.
Let me clarify the working out a bit. The PR department, Public Relations that is, had the job of one-on-one interactions with customers, clients and other businessmen. And we were further divided into departments on the basis of our core degrees. Some of the PR members were involved in sealing Finance deals, some in dealing with clients etc. etc.
Finance team was particularly short-staffed. It was just me and a colleague - Jason.
And we were the only ones who would accompany Shinazugawa sir everywhere.
"Man! I am so, so glad you're finally here! It's scary to work with Mr. Sanemi all alone. Maybe you can take this burden off me." Jason had told me with a goofy smile. And I guess that was to be it. The next day, I was tasked with accompanying him, to get a first-hand working experience.
"(y/n), can you please walk faster?" It was no plea. It was a short remark. Shinazugawa Sanemi was everything I had imagined him to be and yet nothing like him at all. He was as curt and practical as I thought he would be, but he was breath-taking. Muscular, with a scarred face. And on top of that, he had very, very kind eyes. I fell for him, at first sight.
I could feel, it was just a hunch, that he was not in reality this rude. He was just forcing himself to be.
There were no strict restrictions around him. He just expected you to be at your best, would tolerate absolutely NO laxation and was particular about professionalism.
On our first negotiation deal, I could do nothing but just sit there and listen. When we left, I came out with my head hung low. It was not just the fact that I was disappointed in myself, but also the fact that Sanemi was sure to scold me now!
"What is it?" Sanemi asked. It was a demand. I absolutely HAD to tell him what was wrong. There were no options.
"I just feel...so useless. Despite having a member of PR with you, you had to work on all the negotiations." I was ready to listen to a rant about how worthless I was, and how big of a mistake it was to hire me as member of PR.
What I heard though, was a kind, soft voice, that said, "It was your first day. I never expect anything from freshers. On the 4rth negotiation you accompany me to, I'll start expecting you to perform ably." He told me.
I was...stunned. Sanemi had forgiven me?! THE SHINAZUGAWA SANEMI infamous for his rude working style had actually not scolded me?
This man was something else.
And then, we continued walking to his car. We both sat on the backseat during the drive. And in that moment, I do not know what came over me.
I turned to face my boss and spoke in a timid voice, "Sir, you're really kind, aren't you?"
I saw his pupils widen, as if I had just cursed him, and he turned his face round. Had I offended him? Was I going to be fired? I did not say anything anymore. It was the best way to survive, I figured.
Over the course of 4 weeks, I accompanied him to 2 other, normal negotiations. On the end of the third, he took me to a cafe.
"Thanks You." He spoke after we had ordered. I was spacing out the whole time before, but this forced me to turn my full attention to him. I gave him a kind smile, silently coaxing him to continue.
"No one found me kind ever since my parents died. Thank You, for looking past my cold exterior and saying it out loud."
I was flabbergasted. So, what I had done back then, was not actually wrong!
"You are really, really kind. You are the best boss any employee could expect. Someone who is supportive yet assertive. I have a lot to learn from you, sir."
This time, he looked apathetic.
But, I had more to say, "I...do not know what happened, but your eyes say that you are very lonely. Will you be my friend?"
I brought a hand forward, asking him to shake it. He grasped it firmly and the both of us nodded to one another.
"And now, as a rule of friendship, you have 0 right to hide anything from your first ever friend. If you ever feel like smiling or crying or if you're mad or sad, just call me." My bubbly personality was resurfacing. This was what landed me a job in Sanemi Corp anyway.
We drank our coffee, making small talk every now and then, and exchanged Instagram IDs.
I texted him that night, once we had both reached home.
(y/n): Hi Sir!!
Sanemi:
Why are you up?
(y/n): I am usually up at this time around. You?
Sanemi:
Couldn't sleep.
(y/n): Do you want me to sing to you, lol?
Sanemi:
No. Music only worsens my insomniac tendencies.
(y/n): Are you on pills?
Sanemi:
No.
(y/n): Why not?
Sanemi:
Didn't wanna alter my body.
(y/n): Do you watch anime?
Sanemi:
It's a good time pass.
And all night long, we kept talking about our favourite anime characters and former anime crushes and possible plots for what could happen.
He didn't sleep that night, and nor did I.
Gosh, how sleepy I was the whole day at my office. I kept on yawning and spacing out. Jason teased me badly about it, the whole day. What he teased about more was that any moment now, he would call Sanemi sir to the office to see my pathetic condition.
I knew he wouldn't though. Jason was a good person. He was kind, and simple. Pretty humble, tbh. But, he was very, very fun! Jason could make anyone laugh within 5 minutes of being in his vicinity. It was something I COULD NOT do and hence envied him ever so slightly for.
"Jason! Sanemi Sir is calling you urgently now." Came the voice of our head on the telecom.
And off he went, rushing away.
'How is Sanemi Sir? If this is my condition after 1 sleepless night, how would his be?' I was worrying over him the whole time. He was my friend after all. And also...my crush. When you fall for someone, you want to badly find the good parts of him. You just cannot live without finding all of them out.
That was the case with me too. I wanted to know all about Sanemi. And help him, if possible. I had no idea how I was still surviving as his friend when his slightest presence made my heart beat at the speed of light.
There was nothing more to do that day, so I decided to go home early. However, before I could leave, Sanemi sir's car came at the entrance. He looked like...normal....
I guess these sleepless night were routine for him then. I greeted him a Good Evening, and was about to leave his presence, when he came up behind me, and fell into my step.
"Wanna go out for dinner?" He asked me. And who the hell am I to say no to my crush?! Oh what I wouldn't have give to have those words changed from dinner to date.
We once again went in Sanemi's Black Buggati. This man was THE Rich Kid!
Amidst the random conversations we were having about our general hobbies, and likes and dislikes, he piped an "I am sorry."
"For what?" I asked.
To that he said, "For having kept your awake all night long, yesterday."
"It was THE first all-nighter I pulled up." I informed him with a light giggle. "It was pretty fun."
Sanemi looked shocked, and much, much less guiltier. But there was unspoken curiosity in his gaze that I was only gratified to satiate.
"Growing up, I had no friends. I had acquaintances. There were people I knew, and even talked to, but no one to call a FRIEND. Like someone to rely on, someone to send messages to, Someone to openly be me with. So, I naturally had no all-nighters or night outs, or even day outs with people. There was always the group of the most popular, good looking girls. I was never the popular girl yknow. Never a guy's dream, never his crush. I never had anyone get jealous over me, or someone fall for me. I was always a best friend, a little sister, a fling even, but never someone's love."
That was the darkest side of me. That was the most hidden, securely tucked away part of my existence. And I had just opened it up to my CRUSH! To the person who was always supposed to see me in a bright, beautiful light!
And all that anxiety and nostalgia mixed in brought tears to my eyes. I was about to shed the first ever tears in a few months. But before I could do that, Sanemi spoke up.
"My parents...died, with my brother in a Car Crash. I don't know WHY I survived. We were going to celebrate my birthday. The road was pretty rocky, and dad had asked me and my brother to stay quiet. But we were squabbling over who would get to sit on the left side of the car. And I pushed him to the right. The car jerked too. We fell to the base of a ditch, the car burst up in flames. My mom and dad died instantly on the spot. My brother too. I survived cuz I was on the LEFT! The side that was on the top, in regards to the position we fell in.
I was admitted to a government hospital, and was comatose for a whole of 3 months. 3 months later when I woke up, I was the sole owner of the house my dad had left me, and the savings in our bank account, which were very, very little.
We were anyway pretty poor. I did NOT want to survive, but, mom wanted to ride a buggati, and that was really the only reason I lived everyday. I only wanted to buy a buggati. But I also established Sanem Corp.
It's of no use, anyway...I just live now, cuz I have no reason to die."
Sanemi was fighting back tears that were brimming on top of his eyelashes. I moved my chair to his right, and brought his face to the crook of my neck.
I smoothened the back of his head, and whispered in his ears, "Cry it out."
He let out a loud wail then, and started bawling out. I was sure that he cried for over 30 mins. The waiter had very politely deposited our food on the table and left. Everyone around us was also responsible to stay away.
I could finally figure out why he had depressions and why he was an insomniac. He probably had dreams about them every night.
We really did not know what to say to one another during dinner. It was a weird silence. It was almost as if, we feared if we spoke anything, we would lose the gravity of the situation.
Sanemi looked cute with a tear stained face.
He offered to drop me home at 10:00 p.m. in the night, and we promised to call each other that night.
This night was the same as the previous one. Sanemi and I chatted away the whole night. Except this time, we could hear each other. And after a while, I could also hear him softly...snoring away.
I dozed off too, along with him.
The next morning, I accompanied him to a 4rth negotiation. As expected, he was pretty curt and formal while discussing papers with me. I did not want to let him down today. Today was the day he would start practically judging me.
When the 3 hour long negotiations were over, and we were in the elevator, all alone, I looked up to meet his eye. We both said nothing. And finally, he broke the silence, "You're an able person to keep around."
Was that a praise?! Did Sanemi just...praise me?! I was on cloud nine the whole time! I was smiling like the happiest person in the world!
That night, I called him again.
"What was that (y/n)? You were smiling so happily today morning as of someone had offered you a marriage proposal."
And...he burst into laughter!
Sanemi.....laughed....
I was overjoyed about that, and frankly, I could not help but laugh too!
"Sanemi! Can I...ask you one thing....?"
"Yes, of course." He was in a pretty light mood today, so I was afraid of asking him that. It was sure to ruin his mood instantly.
"Are you....okay?" I asked
"Why do you ask that?" Was his short reply. I could tell, I had shaken him up.
"You said that day that you had no reason to live. So....I just....don't want to see you smiling one day and dead the next!"
"Tears are a powerful force, (y/n). Sharing your problems lessens them up. I finally slept properly after many years yesterday. And I...finally have a reason to live."
He did not specify anything. But he had just summed up, that somehow, he was over his past now.
For a few weeks, our friendship was a beautiful little thing. We knew each other like the back of our hands now. And as far as we both knew, Sanemi had a crush on no one, and I had a crush on....someone.
Ever since I told him that I liked someone, he had been more talkative with me. We used to go out on more frequent dinners, in flashier cars than before, and he had started taking me around to more negotiations as well.
However, he hardly ever let me speak in any of them. He was always the one in charge.
Jason was pretty shocked about this behaviour too. It was the first time, he said, that he had heard of Sanemi sir being forceful about negotiations. He always let the members handle it after the first few ones.
Maybe....Sanemi did not trust me even now? Did he think of me as an incompetent employee and only kept me around for the sake of our friendship?
October 8, 2023
He took both me and Jason to the negotiation we planned. Apparently, it was a deal that could change the very face of Sanemi Corp, and we both needed to be at our best.
All throughout the car ride I was pretty nervous. Jason on the other hand, was super excited! He kept chirping in about how he hoped the other negotiator was a pretty lady and how I should promise to treat him to barbeque if it was successful!
Slowly, I could feel my fears melt away too! Jason was an amusing, amazing person! When we stepped out of the car, Sanemi shook hands firmly with Jason to wish him luck, but he ignored me straight away.
Did I....do something wrong? Did he not want me to be relaxed about this negotiation? As it seemed, he did not trust me. I was determined to prove my worth to him by this deal. Acknowledgement was the first step to love they said!
And Jason and I were an amazing combo! We, together, got it sealed within an hour. Sanemi did not have to say much anyway.
"High Five! And as I promised! Barbeque today, at Barbeque Forever 7:00 p.m." I told Jason
He, in his excitement, couldn't help but hug me! And for the first time ever, that day, I heard Sanemi shout!
"Enough with the both of you!" HE was loud. and scary, and I was about to burst into tears. "This is THE MOST unprofessional behaviour I have seen! Ever! Hugging one another publicly! You should be ashamed of yourself! Both of you." He was still seething, as he pulled my hand, and took me away from Jason and the public. I found myself in an unknown, narrow alley. I was not scared. Sanemi would NEVER hurt me. But it hurt to see that he was angry at ME! How did allow myself to get carried away.
Sanemi slapped a hand around my face to the wall on my left, and brought his face dangerously close to mine. Any closer and we could have kissed. I could smell his breath on my face as he spoke: "It's him, isn't it?" He was seething now. Gritting his teeth, in mad anger. He was barely holding himself together!
"The one you have a crush on! It's Jason right? I am so, so much more richer than him! I can give you all the happiness in the world! I am the one you trust the most, but you crush on him! He is so very beneath me! I can fire him in 2 seconds, that's the power I hold! But your choice, is not me! It's that insect!
I have shown you my wealth, my power, and even my negotiation skills, and you still choose someone else over me.
But, that's alright. I cannot change your feelings, but, I will not have you two hugging when I am around!"
He was still angry, but underneath it, he was also sad....Though his tone was angry, it was seething, his eyes told a different story.
He was pleading me to change my mind. To just come to him. He did not want to cry before me and end up making me feel guilty, but he also wanted to bind me to him. The internal battle in him that he was trying so hard to hide was plainly visible to me.
"But, you said, you did not have a crush on anyone." I spoke in a meek timid voice.
"I don't." Came his harsh reply. "I don't have a crush on you. (y/n) (m/n) (l/n), I LOVE you."
I. Was. Shocked. Sanemi had just confessed to me.
I couldn't help but, giggle only to get a harsh glare from him. Someone finally loved me! Someone was jealous FOR me! So all this while, he was trying to prove that he was superior to himself! It was not that he did not trust me. He did not trust HIMSELF.
I started laughing out loud, and I could tell I was only aggravating Sanemi's anger further. He again turned to me, and we were in the same position as before. Sanemi's glare was harsher and he looked even more hurt this time. It was almost as if I had broken the last of his trust, that he had placed in me.
"From the first day. I have been crushing on you, Sanemi Shinazugawa since the first day. It's not Jason. Jason's just a friend. The one I have a crush on, my awkward guy with kind eyes, is you!" I could see his expressions morph into many different things until they finally settled on happiness. He pulled away from me and did a victory jump!
"Yes! (y/n) LOOOOOVVVVVESSSSSSSSSS MEEEE!!!!!" He was doing a stupid little dance, and I could tell he had forgotten about my presence altogether.
I coughed lightly, to remind him that I was still there. He picked me up from the ground in a tight hug and spun me around! And I couldn't help but naturally giggle as well!
I hugged him tighter, and his hold on me tightened as well.
"Gosh! You're such a jealous baby!" I whispered to him in his embrace.
He looked at me, straight in the face, as he said, "You. Are. Mine." And crashed his lips onto mine.
They were soft, warm, and addictive. I felt him pull away. Maybe, he was once again, insecure about his actions. So, I chased them! I kissed him back with the same force that he had put into it, and found him smiling against my lips.
He pushed me to the wall, and poured all the longing, jealousy, anger and happiness into that one kiss.
It was awkward, but much needed. Who would have thought, that both of our first kiss would be this forceful. When we separated, our lips were swollen. I licked mine, and his pupils dilated.
"Sanemi," I asked him on our walk back to the car, "Why me?"
"Cuz you were the one who accepted me wholly. Listen, (y/n), I am very very jealous, and very possessive, and insecure, and I have frequent nightmares, and I don't have control over my temper. But, I love you! I would go to the ends of the Earth for you. And I want to date you with marriage in mind. So, will you go out with me? At your own risk, of course?"
And who the hell was I to reject an offer so, so purely made?
"I am not pretty, and no rich kid, and pretty much goofy. I'll never ever shut up! But, I am your if you want me?" I replied.
Sanemi picked me up to spin me around once again, and replied with a simple, "Of Course I do! Love you princess."
We walked together, with our hands entwined.
As I saw Jason, I wanted to rush to apologise to him but our entwined hands held me in place. So I dragged Sanemi with me.
He freed our hands, put an arm around my waist and pulled me flush to him from the side. He then glared strongly at Jason as he said, "Mine!"
And I rushed to clarify the scenario out.
"Who would have thought that THE GREAT SANEMI SIR would be jealous of me?!" Was the only thing he could reply with.
The car ride, Sanemi made Jason sit in the front, and would not allow me to talk to anyone who wasn't him. Stealing kisses occasionally in there.
He went as far as to ask me to shift my desk to his personal office, and Jason had to promise him that I was nothing more than a sister.
Finally, Sanemi's mind was at ease.
This was 5 years ago. As I write today, I can barely sit, all thanks to Sanemi, who's got me all round and swollen. I am about to be a mother in the next 2 months.
All those past 5 years, Sanemi was the best boyfriend ANYONE could ask for. He was understanding, and comforting. The only risk, was asking anything of him.
If you asked him for a necklace, he'd get you a diamond one. You joke around saying. "I wish I had the recent Iphone15." Congratulations, Home Delivered! I had to get used to it two years ago when he finally proposed.
As I started sleeping in his embrace, his nightmares and my insecurities, reduced drastically.
We had moved on from our pasts now. We were just each others.

Top 10 Core Companies Hiring Electrical Engineers in India
If you’re studying electrical engineering or thinking of taking it up, one big question you probably have is: “Where can I actually get a job after this?” Well, you’re not alone. Many students are curious about which companies are serious about hiring electrical engineers in India — and more importantly, what they actually look for.
Let’s break it down. Below is a list of top 10 core companies that regularly hire electrical engineers. These aren't just names you read in textbooks — these are the companies where your classroom learning can really come alive.
1. BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited)
BHEL is one of the biggest government-owned engineering companies in India. It works in power generation, transmission, and various energy-related projects. They often hire freshers from campus through GATE scores, especially those with strong fundamentals in electrical machines, circuits, and control systems.
2. NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation)
NTPC runs several of India's power plants. Electrical engineers here get to work on real-time control systems, maintenance of high-voltage equipment, and more. If you’re looking for a stable and well-paying job in the public sector, NTPC is definitely a great option.
3. Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL)
PGCIL is all about transmitting electricity across India. It’s like the country’s backbone when it comes to power supply. Electrical engineers working here handle grid operations, fault detection, protection systems, and network planning.
4. Siemens India
A global name, Siemens has a strong presence in India’s energy and automation sectors. They recruit electrical engineers for roles in smart grids, automation, power distribution, and product development. If you enjoy both software and hardware, this place offers a good mix.
5. ABB India
ABB is known for its automation and electrification solutions. They hire electrical engineers to work on industrial robotics, power systems, and sustainable energy tech. Their training programs for fresh graduates are pretty hands-on too.
6. Larsen & Toubro (L&T)
L&T is a giant when it comes to infrastructure and electrical projects. Whether it’s a metro station, power substation, or factory setup, they’re probably involved. L&T hires electrical engineers for design, project execution, and fieldwork.
7. Tata Power
Tata Power is active in both conventional and renewable energy. They need engineers who understand power system protection, energy efficiency, and plant maintenance. They also run internships that sometimes lead to full-time roles.
8. GE (General Electric) India
GE India focuses on energy and healthcare technologies. Electrical engineers here may get roles in research, design, or servicing of advanced systems. This is a good option for those who want a global exposure while working in India.
9. Schneider Electric
Schneider deals with energy management and automation. Their roles often involve product testing, circuit design, energy audits, and solutions for smart homes and industries. If you’re into sustainability, you’ll like what they do.
10. Indian Railways (Through RRB or GATE)
Yes, Indian Railways hires lots of electrical engineers. From maintaining electrification systems to managing power supply in trains and stations, it’s a field that keeps engineers on their toes. You need to clear competitive exams, but it’s a rewarding career path.
What Do These Companies Look For?
Most of these companies prefer candidates who are strong in basics, good with practical applications, and open to fieldwork. While government PSUs rely mostly on GATE scores, private companies often prefer candidates who’ve done internships or taken part in live projects.
This is why studying in an institute that blends theory with hands-on training can be helpful. Some of the best private engineering colleges in Odisha have updated labs and strong industry connections to help students prepare for these roles.
I remember a friend of mine from NMIET telling me how their college hosted a project showcase on renewable energy systems, which later helped him get shortlisted for a campus interview at a reputed company. These small exposures really add up when you're applying for core jobs.
Quick Tips for Electrical Engineering Students
Work on basic concepts: Subjects like electrical machines, power systems, and measurements are important in interviews.
Join workshops: Whether it's on Arduino, IoT, or energy simulation, practical learning makes a difference.
Prepare for GATE: If you’re aiming for PSUs, cracking GATE with a good score opens doors.
Intern whenever possible: Summer internships help you understand how theory applies in real-world setups.
Wrapping Up
There’s no shortage of opportunities for electrical engineers in India — you just need the right skills and mindset. Whether you're planning to work in a thermal power plant, a smart grid startup, or a renewable energy firm, there's a role for you out there. And if you're still deciding where to study, it helps to explore colleges that support both academics and placements. A few of the best private engineering colleges in Odisha are already aligning their teaching methods with what the industry expects. Just be sure to keep learning, stay curious, and be open to new experiences — that’s what really sets you apart.
