If there was one thing Bradley hated, it was chewing gum. The first time he tried it, he spat it back out the second the flavor disappeared. He’d never understood the appeal of gum, it was like chewing straight-up rubber. It didn’t matter how fresh it made his mouth feel. Breath mints existed for a reason and Bradley would be caught dead before asking for gum.

So why was it, that the most annoying model Bradley had ever met, always chewed gum?

Bradley Bradshaw was a freelance makeup artist. He started at the MAC counter in his hometown before working his way into the beauty industry. Campaign shoots, weddings, television sets, fashion shows, you name it, Bradley had done it. It had been hard work building up his clientele, however, Bradley enjoyed hard work. It motivated him to be the best of the best. After traveling for most of his career, Bradley finally settled in San Diego last year and had worked there ever since.

Jake Seresin, a Texan native, had taken the San Diego modeling scene by storm. It annoyed Bradley how easily Jake had charmed his way to the top of the line. He always walked around like he owned the damn place, gum in his mouth and that annoying smirk. A peacock could mistake Jake for one of their own and his southern accent didn't make it any better.

Everyone, especially the camera, adored Jake. It was ridiculous. The man could barely leave a studio before someone flocked him, like a fly gravitating to a pile of shit. Bradley had met plenty of models in his days and Jake was like the teacher's pet but worse.

So what if Jake had a pretty face and a nice ass? That didn’t make him any fun to be around.

Mari Ito, a young adult who lives in Mua Pel'am, Sulani. Her family came from Mt. Komorebi and Sulani, her native languages are Toki Sulani and Simlish. She's conversational in Komorebigo *but slowly working on improving it*.

She's a freelance crafter who often frequents the Ohan'ali Cultural Center (by @simdaisies ) as it provides equipment (free to use) for artists and crafters to work/improve their skills. The OCC also has computers (with free WI-FI), live local music, a bar, a mini-library, space for kids to create crafts and a gallery showcasing Pasifika art celebrating Sulani, and other Pasifika, culture.

Pertemuan yang mendalam, pertanyaan yang di jawab kontan.

Bulan oktober sepertinya Allah ingin memberiku pandangan yang lebih luas lagi. Terhitung sampai saat ini mungkin lebih dari 10 orang baru yang Allah pertemukan denganku. Pertemuan yang tidak ku sangka ini mengantarkan diskusi, renungan yang mendalam, dan bisa jadi jawaban yang ku cari-cari.

Pertama, suatu waktu berkesempatan ngobrol dengan ketua yayasan sekolah Islam, dimana setiap orang yang menyekolahkan anaknya pastilah orang yang mampu, karena yayasan itu terkenal mahal. Tapi mirisnya ternyata gaji guru masih sama dengan guru-guru honorer di sekolah negeri yang bahkan bekerja sudah 3 tahun saja masih di angka 1 juta. Padahal kalau di pikir sekolah itu full day sampai sore, tapi gurunya hanya di gaji segitu? Sungguh aku tidak habis fikir. Gaji guru sedikit, nakes juga ngeluh gajinya nggak cukup, lalu gaji yang banyak itu pekerjaannya apa?? Ternyata di sekitarku orang-orang berseragam terkadang jauh di bawahku terkait gaji. Tapii mereka lebih dibanggakan oleh lingkungan hingga tidak mau melepas seragamnya padhaal bisa bekerja yang gajinya lebih mencukupi.

Kedua, ketika tanya-tanya mbah-mbah di pasar. Kenapa jam 10 sudah pada tutup, ternyata jawabannya bikin nyesek. “Ya ke pasar cuman jenuh di rumah, biar ketemu teman, syukur kalau ada rezeki. Karena zaman sekarang barang 8 ribu aja di online kan, tukang sayur sudah sampai pelosok-pelosok. Jadi di pasar sepi begini, belum tarikan pajaknya”. Aku yang seketika mendengar langsung membatin “Ya Allah. Maafkan aku yang semua-mua barang beli online, tidak pernah berfikir sejauh itu dampaknya untuk warga desa yang gaptek dan menyebabkan ekonomi ini tidak terputar”

Ketiga, ketika sholat Dzuhur di masjid kantor kebetulan ngobrol dengan pemilik masjid yang sudah sepuh, kira-kira usia 70an tahun dan janda sejak usia 48 tahun. Tiada angin tiada hujan tiba-tiba beliau bilang gini “Mbak, semoga sedikit nanti gajinya bisa banyak ya. Kerja perempuan itu sebenarnya biar bisa mandiri, soalnya anakku semenjak nikah ngelarang istrinya bekerja. Padahal istrinya tak suruh kerja karena biar dia punya pengalaman, pikirannya luas, sosialisasinya baik, paham situasi luar, pinter dapat penghasilan, gapapa sedikit-sedikit dan terpenting tidak bergantung sama suami meskipun mungkin bisa di cukupi. Karena pasangan kita itu tidak selamanya, dulu pas aku di tinggal suami dan harus ngurus anak kuliah sampai nikah ya harus bisa”.

Degggg… Aku seperti tertampar angin tornado di siang bolong, belum lama aku mengeluh ingin berhenti bekerja, ingin fokus mengurus rumah malah dapat nasehat seperti itu. Tapi kalau dipikir-pikir benar juga, ya meskipun cita-citaku ibu rumah tangga dan full time mom, aku tetep akan mandiri dalam finansial. Entah itu freelancer atau bisnis sampingan.

Keempat, aku bertemu kepala Toko yang usianya tidak jauh beda. Kita menceritakan berbagai pengalaman suka duka anak kuliah yang memilih beda jurusan. Kita juga mendiskusikan tentang tantangan menjadi perawan tua yang kata tetangga usia 25 tahun ke atas belum nikah itu aib. Hal yang menarik adalah mentalnya yang kuat membuat tetangga-tetangganya pada ketakutan, bahkan dia pernah membalas omongan orang yang nanya nikah dengan jawaban mending belum nikah daripada hamil duluan. (Orang yg nanya adalah yang anaknya hamil duluan) kalau boleh jujur mungkin sekitar 5 orang sekitarku hamil di luar nikah. Awalnya aib, tapi sekarang biasa aja.

Oh iya aku salut sama temanku yang kepala Toko tadi, meskipun daftar ke instansi tidak keterima-keterima, bahkan orang tuanya pernah mau ngasih sesuatu ke pimpinan (semacam hadiah atau minta bantuan ordal agar anaknya bisa masuk). Ia tetep kekeuh dan bilang ke ortunya “Pak rezeki itu ga bisa di tukar, udah kalau gak keterima ya gak usah keterima jangan di paksa. Takutnya aku keterima di tempat yang bukan tempatku dan bukan rezekiku” lagi-lagi aku trenyuh dengan fikiran dewasanya.

Itu dulu ringkasan pertemuan-pertemuan kali ini, mungkin sebenarnya masih banyak tapi entar di lanjut lagi yaa. Sekali lagi terimakasih Ya Allah, akhir-akhir ini aku melamunkan banyak hal termasuk takdir-Mu yang kurasa tidak pernah berpihak kepadaku. Tapi sekali lagi Engkau selalu menunjukkan pelajaran dari berbagai cara.🥹

Hôm nay mình mệt, thật sự mệt.

Sau một ngày làm hết công suất ở công ty, giờ mình vẫn đang ngồi ngoài highlands soạn đề để mai đi dạy, 1 tiếng nữa còn một cuộc họp của nhóm nghiên cứu khoa học, sáng mai phải lên trường sớm.

Chiều nay mình tranh thủ được ít thời gian ghé qua phòng tập, tập mấy bài nhẹ nhàng, rồi cũng tranh thủ lướt tiktok cập nhật tình hình bữa giờ. Mình có xem được một cái clip khá hay, mình sẽ share cho mọi người xem nha. Đại ý rằng khi bạn làm những công việc chân tay, bạn mệt thân nhưng ít mệt tâm, còn những công việc về trí óc thì ngược lại. Cứ suy nghĩ rồi mệt mỏi, lại nốc thuốc vào, cứ thế lặp đi lặp lại không sớm thì muộn cũng tr*m c*m.

Rồi tự nhiên mình sợ, như thể giờ mình vẫn thấy mình ổn đó, nhưng có thật sự vậy không, bao giờ thì mới gọi là bất ổn, hay lúc mà mình nhận ra mình bất ổn thì đã không còn kịp rồi?

Bạn mình đứa nào thấy cái lịch làm việc của mình cũng khen lấy khen để, vừa đi học vừa đi làm, tham gia nghiên cứu khoa học lại còn cân cả dự án freelance. Thế mà cuối tuần vẫn có thời gian dành riêng cho gia đình.

Mình chỉ cười, mình không muốn từ bỏ cơ hội. Nhưng phải công nhận rằng làm nhiều thứ cùng lúc nó bào mình kinh khủng, 2 ngày cuối tuần về nhà mình dành hầu hết thời gian cho việc nằm và ngủ. Mẹ mình cũng biết mình vất vả nên nấu đủ món cho mình ăn. Có lẽ gia đình là điểm tựa vững chắc nhất cho mình nên mình tin rằng dù thế nào đi nữa, mình rồi sẽ ổn thôi.

Hôm nay là thứ 2, mình mới vừa trở lại sài gòn thôi, vậy mà muốn về nhà nữa rồi í. Khoe là mình mua bánh trung thu rồi, chờ thứ 7 mang về cho mẹ thôi. Cảm giác đi xa rồi mang gì đó về nó thích lắm, có cơ hội mọi người cũng thử đi nhen.

realizing im caught in a weird spot rn with my future. i want to be a professional makeup artist, and work on clients and models. at first i thought being a cosmetologist or an esthetician would be a cool profession but i dont Really focus on makeup. with cosmetology i learn mainly hair, with some nails and skin sprinkled in. being an esthetician u learn skin, but mainly skin treatments and massages, but not much makeup.

i like to watch vloggers of girls attending beauty school to try and get a vibe of what its like to attend a school like that, and i havent seen anyone do makeup Once. and i also realized, w my ocd, i dont wanna touch ANYONES body, not even just the models that come in for demonstration.

i found a makeup academy however that is makeup with some hair styling. i wanna do that! but now my family is worried about how that will be sustainable for me. it is true the avg freelance mua isnt making bank and rolling in cash. and if im sick/injured, i dont get paid for that day off.

also in pennsylvania u dont need/get a license to be an mua, but u do need a license to be an esthetician or a cosmetologist. and if im licensed, im more likely to be hired somewhere with my skills and qualifications. im not sure how accessible it is being Only an mua i can secure steady income.

so heres my idea: i go get my license (idk what i wanna study yet) snd then go to the makeup specialist school. but idk if the money i have will be accepted to the makeup school. and idk if i wanna go to school twice 🫠

if any of u are/know a make up artist, esthetician, a cosmetologist, can i have some advice?
