I love coming across these little free libraries because it says so much about the local readers. This one was so full of exciting titles! I had to shift some a bit to close the little door again. I came across this one last weekend in Hamilton!

what's your favorite book? or books, if it's hard to choose.

"I can't name a favorite, but I can offer a reading recommendation instead, if you'll have it. Recently I've been reading L'homme au masque de fer, The man in the iron mask, which is very popular right now... Of course, to my shame it's entirely and exclusively in French, but it's such a good book that it can be forgiven this shortcoming. If you've read Les Trois Mousquetaires, this is a mandatory read. (PS. If you had told me I'd be wholeheartedly recommending a French book maybe a decade or two ago, I'd have laughed at you)"

Today I want to highlight a local bookshop: Charis Books & More! As the South's oldest independent feminist bookstore, Charis has celebrated radical and independent voices since 1974! They exist to foster sustainable feminist communities, work for social justice, and encourage the expression of diverse and marginalized voices. This amazing bookshop specializes in diverse and unique children's books; feminist and cultural studies books; books on anti-racism; and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer fiction and non-fiction. It's one of my favorite places to visit when I'm ready for a major haul of queer books. Any book mail you've sent my way via Bookshop.org also raised money for this amazing store. There's even a Little Free Library out front!

Found on my walk with Winston this morning- the other Little Free Library a block off had a lot of race relations books today and it made me so happy they’re being shared.

the temptation to go on a Little Free Library adventure... overwhelming
I've never gone to any in an actual city before, and I feel like I'm gonna have more luck here than I have in the suburbs in the past, but also I don't have any books to exchange and that's typically the etiquette
(also I don't need any more books let's be honest)

I was a Three Black Cats Featured Author!
I’m a little late on this announcement, but I’m happy to share that I was a Featured Author at the Three Black Cats store in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Three Black Cats is an excellent snarky gift store that started as an Etsy shop and has blown up as a prominent place with its own brick-and-mortar store. In addition to the great items they offer, such as wine tumblers, home decor, clothes, and…

Went to the local hospital to get an echocardiogram today.
There's a straight up (small, tabletop) bookshelf in the waiting room with novels and other books. I immediately grabbed Piranesi by Susanna Clarke because I've heard good things about it.
Get checked in, go to a separate waiting room with even more books.
During my appointment, I mentioned how cool this was to the tech, and she said, "Oh, yeah, I think I started that. I had a few books that I wasn't going to read again, so I brought them here, and now new ones keep appearing. I think people might be treating it like a book exchange. Feel free to take that book home if you want."
I am thoroughly delighted. More medical practices need to do this.

✨ A Day for Gratitude 🌟
🦇 I hope you had a wonderful holiday, my beloved bookish bats. As someone who didn't celebrate Christmas growing up (shoutout to all my book lovers who also celebrate Eid every year), I'm especially grateful for the day I had yesterday. My gf's family is so welcoming & sweet. Honestly, I get a little teary-eyed just thinking about yesterday. Here are the highlights:
✨ Elizabeth's sister & brother-in-law made me my very own Little Free Library @littlefreelibrary! I started tearing up the moment I saw it. I'm especially grateful to Jeff, who injured himself in the process of making it (I'm going to keep saying thank you/I'm sorry for a thousand years, even though he's been so cool about it). They even used the Batty color palette! I can't wait to fill the planter with black dahlias & lavender. I haven't stopped looking at it. 🌟 Since I have PCOS, Elizabeth's mom swapped their two of their pasta dishes for gluten-free options, which I know not everyone loves. It was delicious! ✨ Elizabeth helped me wrap all of the gifts we brought (my skills are lacking) 🌟 Our friend Erika is currently watching Luna & CleoCatra at home. This is our first Christmas without them AND the longest I've ever been away from them. Thank you, Erika, for giving them all the love while we're away. ✨ E's brother made me 3D-printed bookmarks. I can't wait to start using them! 🌟 E's mom made me these adorable purple slippers, which I can't wait to wear around the house, & her parents got me a stunning edition of Peter Pan! ✨ Elizabeth...there aren't enough words to say how grateful I am for you. Ya'aburnee, habibi. Here's to a lifetime more of these moments.
❓Let's send a little more love out into the world. Tag someone you're grateful for & why in the comments!
