Risertrap Guide
Risertrap is a free indie game on itch.io at https://abho.itch.io/risertrap. It has four endings and draws inspiration from the Saw franchise and the Blackjack minigame from Resident Evil VII. In this guide I'll be explaining all four endings!
Trigger warnings for this game: gore, amputation, death
Basic premise: you are playing rock paper scissors with a fellow victim. You have two monitors visible on your screen-- the one on the right displays your choices of rock, paper, and scissors. The circles on the bottom screen are 'calls', which you can use when you lose a round. It lengthens the round into best two out of three, to perhaps save a finger (or worse).
To explain this simply: the beginning screen. The circles represent how many times you can force a 2 out of 3. When you use one, it is passed to your opponent-- there are ALWAYS four calls available. It can be passed back to you later. You just select your move by clicking on its icon. The blue bar on the bottom is your timer. Running out of time causes an automatic loss and according penalty.
This is the screen when you have lost a round. You may use your 'call' to force the 2 out of 3, or you may take the loss and forfeit.
The monitor on the left displays your body parts. Whichever part is flashing in red is the next to be removed by the trap set by the sadistic narrator.
For example, on this screen, I have not yet lost anything, and the pinky finger will be the next to be removed.
An example of a hand with two fingers removed.
Each time you or an opponent lose a round, the platform you are on raises by one level, indicated by this bar.
The platform is at level 7 here.
Now that's the basics of the game, onto each ending! Spoilers ahead, please feel free to explore the game on your own!
This is a simple ending. As body parts are removed, eventually all of your vital organs will be taken, leaving the right monitor like this:
Your vision will start to fade in and out. Eventually, you will-- without your lungs and heart-- die of hypoxia, caused by inadequate oxygen delivery to the brain.
This starts off exactly the same as ending 1, but instead of eventually dying of hypoxia, it happens when you lose one more round and your brain is removed.
When your opponent has their brain removed, you win! The opponent CANNOT die of hypoxia due to balancing issues. I can't give much strategy on how to win, as this is entirely a chance game. Just try to use your calls wisely! I recommend not overusing them and trying to hoard them. Keeping them out of your opponent's hands forces more losses for them!
Your unfortunate opponent once you've won.
This ending requires multiple playthroughs.
This is a little dark to see, isn't it! Let's brighten that up.
There we go! Now you can see a pattern of dots. Wondering what to do with this? That's for your next playthrough! For now, we're going to click on the pattern itself.
It reveals this! That is, quite obviously, Morse Code. I have provided a morse code cheat sheet!
Try and translate yourself!
(Line break so you can translate without seeing the answer below)
Translating that message, it says LISTEN, with a picture of the stylistic eyes. Now, with that knowledge, let's start over! You can continue to play, or just refresh the game and start again!
Now we'll be breaking that morse code translator out again. Try to remember these patterns--
P = short, long, long, short
R = short, long, short
S= short, short, short
I bet it's starting to click now, but if it hasn't: your opponent is blinking in morse code! Start the game and watch his eyes closely. P stands for paper, R stands for rock, and S stands for scissors.
Your goal is to TIE with him. So watch his blinking carefully, and tie him. Over, and over, tie with him.
After eight ties, the right monitor will glitch out, saying Critical System Error.
Keep in mind you can ONLY do this if NEITHER of you have been injured yet.
He will begin to speak to you through the monitor!
>hello
>im glad you got the message
>we activated the backdoor, which aborts the game
>thank goodness it still works
>but we won't be able to get out of here alive
>if we had admin access, we could get the system to unbind us
>and give us new legs, too (did you notice that? neither of you have legs!)
>but we're going to die anyways without the passcode
>...
>well, at least we aren't forced to kill eachother
The screen will then display a numberpad.
Here it is!
Back to the status monitor, look on the right side to see three buttons. Press them in the sequence shown on the pattern from before.
The dark dot in each column is which to press in order. So it goes bottom, top, middle, top, middle, top, top.
Now a passcode appears in the top! It is NOT randomly generated, and remains the same through each playthrough-- it is always 9153.
He will begin to talk to you again.
>you... did it...
The platform will rise to your freedom now!
>let's get the hell out of here, friend
That's the end of the guide! This was such a fun little game and I can't wait to review and write guides to more.
EDIT: requested tip-- press Z to skip the intro!

Advancements in Drug-Coated Balloons for PAD Treatment: Revolutionizing Peripheral Artery Diseases (PAD) Devices Market
Introduction:
Peripheral Artery Diseases (PAD) Devices Market affects millions worldwide, presenting a significant healthcare challenge due to its prevalence and associated risks. Among the various treatment options, Drug-Coated Balloons (DCBs) have emerged as a promising innovation, transforming the landscape of PAD treatment. This article explores the advancements in DCBs, their impact on the PAD devices market, and future trends shaping this dynamic field.
Download free sample: https://www.nextmsc.com/peripheral-artery-disease-market/request-sample
Understanding Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)
PAD is characterized by the narrowing or blockage of arteries due to the buildup of fatty deposits (plaque) on artery walls, typically affecting the arteries supplying blood to the legs and feet. This condition restricts blood flow, leading to symptoms like leg pain, numbness, and even severe complications such as limb amputation if left untreated.
The Role of Drug-Coated Balloons (DCBs) in PAD Treatment
DCBs represent a significant advancement in minimally invasive treatments for PAD. Unlike traditional angioplasty balloons, DCBs are coated with anti-proliferative drugs that are released directly into the arterial wall during the procedure. This drug coating helps inhibit the growth of cells that contribute to arterial re-narrowing (restenosis) post-treatment, improving long-term outcomes compared to standard angioplasty alone.
Advantages of Drug-Coated Balloons
Reduced Restenosis Rates: Clinical studies have demonstrated that DCBs significantly reduce the risk of restenosis compared to plain balloon angioplasty, thereby lowering the need for repeat interventions.
Preservation of Vessel Integrity: The drug coating targets the affected area without damaging the vessel wall, preserving vascular function and reducing complications.
Improved Patient Outcomes: Patients treated with DCBs often experience better symptom relief and functional outcomes, enhancing their quality of life.
Market Growth and Forecast
The global PAD devices market is witnessing robust growth, driven by increasing prevalence of PAD, rising demand for minimally invasive treatments, and technological advancements in device design and drug formulations. According to recent market research, the segment of DCBs is expected to show exponential growth over the coming years, fueled by expanded indications and regulatory approvals.
Technological Innovations in DCBs
Recent innovations in DCB technology focus on enhancing drug delivery efficiency, improving coating durability, and optimizing balloon design for better navigability and efficacy. Key advancements include:
Next-Generation Drug Formulations: Novel drug combinations and coatings tailored to specific patient profiles to improve treatment outcomes.
Advanced Coating Technologies: Nano-coatings and polymer matrices that enhance drug adherence to the balloon surface and ensure sustained drug release.
Integration with Imaging Modalities: DCBs equipped with imaging technologies such as intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) or optical coherence tomography (OCT) for real-time visualization during procedures, improving precision and outcomes.
Regulatory Landscape and Market Adoption
Regulatory bodies such as the FDA and CE mark have been pivotal in advancing DCB technologies by setting stringent efficacy and safety standards. Market adoption of DCBs varies across regions, influenced by reimbursement policies, physician training, and patient awareness campaigns highlighting the benefits of minimally invasive treatments.
Global Harmonization Efforts: Efforts towards global harmonization of regulatory standards are facilitating quicker approvals and market access for DCBs worldwide, reducing regulatory barriers and promoting innovation.
Health Economic Assessments: Increasing focus on health economic assessments to demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of DCB treatments compared to traditional methods, influencing healthcare provider adoption and reimbursement decisions.
Emerging Markets Expansion: Rapid expansion of DCB adoption in emerging markets, driven by improving healthcare infrastructure, rising disposable incomes, and growing awareness about advanced treatment options.
Clinical Evidence Expansion: Continual expansion of clinical evidence through post-market surveillance studies and real-world data analyses, providing insights into long-term efficacy and safety profiles across diverse patient populations.
Collaborative Research Initiatives: Collaborative efforts between industry stakeholders, academic institutions, and healthcare organizations to conduct research, clinical trials, and data registries aimed at advancing DCB technology and improving patient outcomes.
Inquire Before Buying: https://www.nextmsc.com/peripheral-artery-disease-market/inquire-before-buying
Future Trends and Opportunities
Looking ahead, the PAD devices market, particularly DCBs, is poised for further growth and innovation:
Expanded Indications: Continued research into broader applications of DCBs beyond femoropopliteal arteries to include other arterial beds.
Personalized Medicine: Development of personalized DCB therapies based on genetic profiles and disease characteristics.
Integration with Digital Health: Incorporation of digital health solutions for remote patient monitoring and data-driven treatment optimization.
Conclusion
Drug-Coated Balloons represent a paradigm shift in the treatment of Peripheral Artery Disease, offering patients a less invasive option with improved outcomes and reduced risks of complications. As technological advancements continue to evolve and regulatory approvals expand, the future of PAD treatment looks increasingly promising. Stakeholders across the healthcare spectrum, from manufacturers to healthcare providers and patients, stand to benefit from the ongoing innovations in DCB technology.

Superior Representation. The Justice You Deserve.
Big rigs, 18-wheelers, semi-trucks—call them what you will, but commercial trucks can be deadly. As essential as they are to the economy, the size and weight of a semi can cause serious harm to motorists during a collision. They’re highly dangerous if not properly operated and maintained. Because of this, victims in a trucking accident are likely to be killed or sustain catastrophic brain damage, spinal injuries, or amputations.
Loose regulations for trucking companies and manufacturers increase the chance of a deadly crash. Unfortunately, this reluctance to impose stronger safety standards has created a climate where profit trumps safety. If you or a loved one was the victim of a trucking collision, don’t wait. Contact the Farmington personal injury lawyers at Shapiro Law Team today.

Why You Need to Hire a Farmington Truck Accident Lawyer
Any accidents involving semi-trucks are rarely minor. These types of accidents often involve serious injury or death. Even pick-up truck accidents are twice as likely to result in a fatality. Hire an experienced truck accident attorney who knows how to handle the legalities following a collision.
In Farmington, the lawyers at Shapiro Law Team proudly represent truck injury victims. We’re ready to fight for your maximum compensation through superior representation, backed by years of experience handling trucking cases like yours.
We Conduct Our Investigation to Build You the Strongest Case Possible
At Shapiro Law Team, we handle your case from start to finish and immediately begin investigating as soon as you call. We start our investigation by contacting our network of trucking accident experts, including reconstructionists, biomechanical engineers, automotive design experts, and others.
Along with examining the circumstances of your collision, we consider the following to help us build a case:
Was the truck driver properly licensed and trained?
Was the truck driver observing safety protocols such as not exceeding their maximum hours?
Was the truck driver speeding to meet delivery deadlines imposed by the company?
Was the truck properly maintained and were safety checks regularly conducted?
Was the truck driver under the influence of alcohol?
Was the truck driver under the influence of prescription drugs?
Were the truck’s tires unsafe or defective?
Did the truck have improper reflectors?
Was the truck’s load unsecured or improperly mounted?
Did the truck driver make an aggressive maneuver such as an unsafe lane change?
We also consider the severity of your injuries, eyewitness accounts, and the driver’s logbook.
When Is the Trucking Company Liable?
A trucking company could be liable in many different scenarios, including the following:
Broken Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration rules
Broken general traffic laws
Poor fleet and vehicle maintenance
Unsafe cargo loading
Lack of proper securement of hazardous cargo
Dangerous hiring or training procedures
Hiring unlicensed or incompetent drivers
Pressuring drivers to meet deadlines
Broken hours of service regulations
Truck driver negligence or recklessness
Remember, trucking companies are well-equipped with resources to fight your accident claim. Protect your right to compensation by working with Shapiro Law Team in Farmington, New Mexico. We’ll negotiate your case and go up against even the largest trucking companies if that’s what it takes.
5 Things to Do After a Trucking Accident
The aftermath of a trucking accident in Farmington is confusing, overwhelming, and stressful. However, taking the proper steps could make or break your right to compensation. Follow these steps to give yourself the best fighting chance:
Call 911 Stay at the scene of the truck accident, and call law enforcement. The police will create an official report of the crash—a crucial piece of information you’ll need for your case.
Check For Injuries If you, your passengers, or the truck driver have any injuries, request an ambulance. Obtaining immediate medical care is important, even if you think the injuries are minor.
Take Pictures We’re lucky to have cameras in our pockets at all times. Pull out your phone to take pictures of all vehicles involved, any injuries, and the other party’s contact information.
Call an Insurance Company Report the accident to the insurance company of the at-fault party as soon as possible. However, do not continue with claim negotiations until you contact an attorney.
Act Quickly Important evidence, like information from the truck’s black box, won’t be available forever. Hire an attorney to begin collecting evidence before it’s too late.
How Can I Be Compensated After a Truck Accident?
Compensation depends on the specifics of your case. For instance, if you were at fault for a truck accident, you’ll rely on your health insurance for compensation. If the crash was due to the negligence of another, you may get compensation from their insurance company or the trucking company itself.
Regardless of where you get your compensation, know that most insurance carriers will do everything in their power to pay you as little as possible. They’ll send you a lowball offer to save their money and, ultimately, aren’t on your side. So call someone who is on your side. Contact Shapiro Law Team for a free consultation.
Available Compensation Types
New Mexico trucking accident victims may be entitled to the following compensation:
Economic Compensation Also referred to as “special damages,” this refers to the types of compensation considered calculable after a truck crash. Economic damages may include a victim’s medical bills, out-of-pocket expenses, lost wages, and property damage costs.
Non-Economic Compensation This is also known as “general damages” and refers to losses that can’t be tied to economic values. This type of compensation is harder to calculate because it often involves intangible damages like the loss of enjoyment of life, emotional and psychological damage, pain and suffering, and trauma.
Punitive Damages These damages are meant to punish the negligent party and show their actions are socially unacceptable. Punitive damages are rare and not always awarded.
Top Causes of Truck Accidents in Farmington
Driver Negligence
Negligence is the most common cause of truck accidents in Farmington. Whether the truck driver was driving while impaired or failed to follow traffic laws, we see a long list of common truck collision causes at Shapiro Law Team:
Operating while impaired by alcohol or drugs
Operating while distracted by a phone or another device
Disregarding FMCSA hours of service requirements

Truck Company Negligence
Trucking companies can also be negligent and cause accidents. Causes include:
Failure to regularly inspect and maintain trucks
Failure to maintain a certain amount of cargo
Failure to properly train the truck driver
Truck Failure
Finally, truck failure may be either the truck company’s fault or the parts manufacturer’s fault. This includes operational failures or malfunctions.
Most Common Truck Accident Injuries
Trucks are massive and carry thousands of pounds in cargo weight. Because of their size, semi-trucks can cause catastrophic or fatal injuries. At Shapiro Law Team, our lawyers experience helping Farmington truck accident victims who have sustained the following:
Spinal cord injuries (often with paralysis)
Other severe back or neck injuries
Devastating soft tissue injuries
Severe lacerations or puncture wounds

Just another fucking Saturday. I'm slouching around in my PJs, waiting for the food delivery like the lazy cow I am, when there's a knock at the door. Like an absolute twat, I swing it open without checking the peephole first. Mistake number one of the day.
Standing there with my weekly haul of vegan shit and dead animals is someone whose face makes my stomach do a backflip.
"X!" I blurt out, using literally the first name my brain can scrape together. "Ahhh! How are you?"
Jesus fucking Christ. X. The same wanker who spent six years as a software engineer with me before deciding his "true calling" was... what was it again? Designing logos? Or Photoshopping stock art? Something equally fucking ridiculous for someone with a STEM degree.
Fast forward a couple years and here he is on my front doorstep, looking like a deflated balloon in sweatpants, hauling my weekly shop for minimum wage. I try to make small talk, doing that whole casual interested-but-not-prying bollocks. The whole thing's about as comfortable as a colonoscopy.
"I could never get the hang of designing," he wheezes, struggling with my boxes like they're filled with concrete. "The PTSD was too much, if I'm being honest."
PTSD? From making fucking clipart? Before I can even process that gem, he launches into a proper monologue about what a nightmare our old boss was. You know the type - micromanaging prick who thought sexual harassment was an Olympic sport.
My husband's trying not to piss himself laughing at this point. He couldn't give two shits about my workplace horror stories or these sad bastards showing up at our door. For him, it's just free entertainment with his morning tea.
I finally have to cut X off with one of those awkward waves that makes me want to amputate my own arm, promising we'll definitely get coffee soon. We both know that's a bigger lie than my last tax return. I've got enough fucking pen pals, thanks very much.

Headcannons for the one and only operator Smoke/James Porter
He is my favorite operator in rainbow six siege. A B S O L U T E L Y everything is perfect from this man, from personality and voicelines to abilities and guns. I just can’t get tired of playing him.
─── ❖ ── ✦ ── ❖ ───
• He is adicted to Blue Ice Gfuel. He can drink up to 4 shakers a day. He orders that much Gfuel he became friends with the delivery guy,
• He has a cat. Her name is Darling and its a tuxedo cat. He took Darling from the street. He always saw the cat around the shop he always goes to get food. Since he always felt lonely at his apartment, he saw no inconvinience in taking the cat home and giving it proper love and care.
• He talks to Darling as if she was a human being. He always complains to Darling about how he dosent like some of his teammates or talks about how his day went on the base or at a mission.
• James cuts his own hair since he was 14. He used to cut his hair at the salon until a hairdresser neglected and almost cut off a piece of his ear. Since then he dosen’t trust anyone but himself to cut his hair.
• He is hearing music 24/7 on his emoji shaped speaker. He acknowledges he isn’t the greatest singer but he tries very hard to hit those high notes.
• He appreciates his friendship with operator Mike Baker. He looks at him as a father figure since he wasn’t that close to his father.
• He goes crazy mad when someone dares to perch their fingers on his neck scar. He just can’t stand the way it feels when something lightly brushes his scar. That neck scar makes shower time quite a headache.
• His favorite Rock Band is Molchat Doma. He never gets tired of their songs.
• He enjoys cooking, he even bakes stuff when ever he has nothing to do, but he burns himself very constantly.
• He lowkey feels very insignificant. He feels that nobody actually takes him seriously for his fame of being a thrill seeker.
• he sleeps in fetal position, taking almost no space from his king sized bed and leaving it for Darling. He dosen’t snore, but drools, thing that he is ashamed of. When ever he needs to stay the night at the base, he always gets the furthest bed from the other operators so nobody notices the dry saliva that runs down his chin. The SAS operators except Mute, (of course) know that James drools and mocked about it, but stopped making fun of it when James got so pissed he made their SAS teammeates loose all the training rounds on porpuse when ever he got paired with them.
• He likes to snap his bones when ever he can do.
• Saturdays is the day the SAS operators go to get some drinks, he dosen’t like to drink alcohol that much so he pretty much goes to hang with them, even Mark shows up. James, Mike and Seamus are always offering free drinks to Mark so he can get drunk and talk atleast a little more than usual, thing that not all the time works.
• He is bisexual, same atraction for both male and female
• H e h a s a c r u s h o n M a r k “ Mute” C h a n d a r.
• He won’t do anyting about his little crush, he knows Mark wont feel the same and will only ruin the relation they have
• He can lick his nose
• He entretains himself doing braids to the long-haired operators of Rainbow. He learned to braid with his own hair. He like to braid Dokkaebi over everyone else
• He is a plant enthusiastic. Takes care of his plants as if they are gold
• He nevers misses out april fool to pull very creative pranks. His most memorable prank was when he faked amputating a finger at the work shop.

Gangrened Conjure Dizzying Atmosphere in ‘Deadly Algorithm’
~Review by Billy Goate~
Before us lies an enigma called 'Deadly Algorithm' (2021) by Finnish band GANGRENED, whom we've introduced you to before, when they dropped that wonderfully dreary doomer 'We Are Nothing' (2014). Let me share with you the diary of my thoughts as I immersed myself in their recently released full-length.
Deadly Algorithm by Gangrened
Deadly Algorithm starts with gentle, quiet picking that echoes faintly, but already surrounds us with a strange, if inviting, airspace. A melodic line develops as "Harrbåda" gains volume, building it seems towards a crescendo -- then suddenly stopping as a drumroll interrupts. The atmosphere returns to quirks and quarks, increasingly distorted notes, spikes of reverberating rhythm. All the while, the same short impermanent melodic motif makes its statement, until it flitters away into the void.
Deadly Algorithm by Gangrened
"Triptaani" makes a strong entrance, this time with galled vocal attack and a slow, but strong, guitar lead girded by the fuzz-sparked gears of bass and drum languidly moving this machine along. A hail of shredding follows, with cymbals crashing to a throbbing beat, leading to one ardent chord laid upon another. Eventually the pace slows to a crawl, with dissonant harmonies, and a wild solo from Jon Imbernon that's almost overcome by the industrial crunch of Lassi Männikkö's dumming, Joakim Udd's vile spew of noise, Mikko Mannistö's declamatory singing.
Deadly Algorithm by Gangrened
"Hologrammi" features more familiar doom pacing with a searing riffage, a slow burn flow of bass and drums, and clean (but pissed off) crooning. It's surrounded by a mesmerizing jumble of pedal effects, noise, downtuned instrumental buzz, and crackling amps -- of which make its climactic moment of vocal delivery emphatic and powerful.
Deadly Algorithm by Gangrened
Intricate guitar trilling action introduces “Kuningatar” and it sounds almost like temelos dancing upon its appointed harmonic scale in those opening moments. By the time the rest of the crew sounds off, it turns into a frightening ensemble, indeed. I imagine this would be quite chilling to experience in a live setting. While the vocals feel swallowed up in the great reverberating wall of sound, it seems to add to the mystique of the whole dim sound environment. Psychedelic noodling returns six minutes and if you listen carefully you can hear a seething malediction pronounced sternly beneath the fray of scattered noise, synth, and pedal effects. Great doom returns to ground us to reality and the band improvises a swirl of activity that makes me think of the wandering spirits released from the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Deadly Algorithm by Gangrened
”Triangeli” grabs hold of us with a rumbling bass line that establishes the song’s basic theme, soon to be reinforced by guitar. Meanwhile, words are spoken with accented cymbals and hypnotic drumming. The song ends with whispered lyrics uttered over a soundgarden of riffage, soft cymbals, omnipotent bass rumble, and the cycling sounds of amp feedback. I don't know the words, and the singer refuses to share them, so that means what he's singing is left up to your fertile imagination. Or you can just enjoy the vocal aesthetic and what it contributes to this dense, dark atmosphere.
A cathartic journey, indeed, which I ventured on while I was in an especially discouraged and pissed off mood. Even though I understood not its words, I felt its sentiment and it was in some way cleansing. Available digitally, on vinyl and compact disc as an independent release (order here).
Interviewing Gangrened Guitarist Jon Imbernon
By Billy Goate
You've been a band for quite a while. I understand you are one of the founding members, too. How did Gangrened form to begin with?
Well, we were a bunch of guys living in the same area around ostrobotnia, between kokkola and new karleby, here in the center west coast of finland. so few of us had the idea to do the band so we asked the others, but none of those guys except me are still in the band. high level of mobility because studies in this area of small towns, to bigger cities of Finland.
It sounds like there are challenges keeping a band together in Ostrobotnia? I imagine it makes it ver5y challenging to get new band members to replace the old. Is there much of a music scene to speak of?
Yeah, actually I'm not from here myself. I'm Basque/Spanish and in the specific area I live, like around 110 kilometers or so, there's no real bands or scene, but if you go forward you reach Oulu in the north or Seinajoki, bigger cities with more bands and such. And yes, from the exact spot I live now, I have needed to look more than 100 kms to find new members. I'm moving in a near future to Tampere, so that should help in strengthening the line-up.
So how long has the most recent crew of Gangrened been together?
Since May of 2015, just after some dates we played with Bongzilla in Finland, the entire line-up shifted.
Gangrened basically means "gangrene" right?
It's like "corrupted," you know? Yes, the name comes from the illness.
My grandfather's big toe got infected from a cut because he didn't treat it properly. When he finally went to a doctor, they told him he would have to amputate his foot to live. He refused, stating he wanted to die with both of his feet on. So he officially died of gangrene!
Ouch! Okay...
Did you pick Gangrened for any special reason, like the corruption of society or something like that?
Yeah, that kind of reason. I wanted some grimmy name, but actually now it's getting a bit inappropriate, as we are not so typically doom sludge anymore.
How would you describe/characterize your sound now?
Well, I would say it is deep and varied. Actually, I think this record is like transitional, just because, for example, one song "Hologrammi" is an old song we included. But newer stuff goes beyond what has been previously recorded, take songs like "Triangeli" or "Kuningatar."
Deadly Algorithm by Gangrened
We reviewed 'We Are Nothing' back in 2014, and at the time we described your sound in terms of: "Slow, behemoth sized riffs. Excessive feedback. Fuzz worship." What would you say has changed or is different now, as your sound, style, and general musical approach has evolved?
Well, at some point, just as an exercise of abstraction to what we were doing, how it was turning out with songs like "Triangeli" or "Kuningatar" I decided to look into my whole musical background, and keep on adding elements from it. Also I got bored of the regular sludge-doom thing. So I considered it more interesting, and more comfortable to me, to keep an essence of slow and heavy music, and atmospheric at times, but not so defined inside the regular sludge-doom thing. The atmosphere feels very trippy, even psychedelic at times.
Let's talk about the new album. Why is it called 'Deadly Algorithm'? I think about 10 years ago, I never used the word "algorithm," but now it's a common word that most people at least understand in concept.
Well, I'm studying now in the university again, engineering in information technology, and at same time i'm a person a lot with strong progressive values, so through my studies and also digging on related topics like online privacy or the evolution and development of the new technologies I found alarming how the new technologies are going and its implications.
There are several key things that many people do not think about: smart phones have like six sensors on average to spot your location, plus no company gives services for free. If so, it's because the product is the user of the service. There's no other reason for that. So beginning with these facts, there are a lot of things going on that everyone should be aware of, and the album theme is all about that. Nowadays, data algorithms are making more and more decisions in our lives that no more take into account true needs as humans.
It seems like we have created our own virtual prison, without even realizing it.
Yes, but the thing is who runs the prison? not ourselves at all.
Getting into the songs themselves, are they all sung in Finnish?
Yes. At first some were in english but then the singer decided to sing all songs in Finnish.
Starting with the first song, can you tell us what each title means and what themes you explore?
The first song ("Harrbåda") is simply the name of a coastal area around here. The second ("Triptaani") is a medicine for headaches. The third song ("Hologrammi") is named obviously after a hologram. The fourth ("Kuningatar") means "Queen" and the last ("Triangeli") is "triangle."
Is there any conceptual, thematic, or spiritual relationship between these tracks?
It's quite a personal thing to the singer, he wrote the lyrics and I can't exactly tell you their meaning because Mikko Mannistö is a bit secretive about it. But personal things, yes. Personal matters to him.
Tell us a little bit about the recording process. Where did you record, with whom, and are there any memories that stand out from that time?
Well, we started recording the record in june 2018, with a friend of the singer, at some big rooms in a youth center house. We did most of the recordings with him until February of 2019. At that time, we asked a few people to mix, master, and finish the process. but nothing worked and there was some time wasted waiting for answers.
I decided moving forward we would go with someone who is recording records all the time and known by us, so we asked Tom Brooke, an English guy who lives close to Jyväskylä, runs a studio, and is the live sound technician for Oranssi Pazuzu. So we finished the record, a few more guitar tracks, mixing, and mastering with him.
I remember there was a long time between sessions, so new ideas were constantly coming to us to add to the songs for the next session. That’s why some guitar tracks were added for mixing just the day before starting to mix.
I'm sure you were relieved once all the recording, mixing, and mastering was finally done!
Yeah ! like this is the record and now its totally defined and wrapped up. As a guitarist, what can you tell us about the guitar writing on the new album? Anything that you are especially proud of or that you think the listener should pay special attention to?
The intro is all played by me, and then the weirdest stuff, noisy guitar here and there, and the first half of riffs of triptaani , i'm quite proud of the first two or three riffs, and I used to be proud about some riffs in the middle of "hologrammi." The noisiest and more psyched out guitars of kuningatar.
Tell us about what you, as a guitarist, used in the studio while recording 'Deadly Algorithm'
Well, so I used three guitars to record the album: one Gibson SG Standard from the late '90s, another SG Standard from 1980, and a Gibson Les Paul Classic from around 1991. The SG from the late '90s was ultra-modded -- I changed the finish, pickups, electronics, tuners, but in the end sold it and now it's owned by David from Slomatics. The 1980 I just bought for the recording, so it was all stock. Later, I changed the pickups. The Gibson Les Paul also had all replaced tuners, circuit pickups, and so. It's my main guitar and I used it in most of the songs. The SGs I just used for "Triangeli," the last song.
About effects, I use a Big Muff Fuzz mainly, but also a custom Dunwich Amps FuzzThrone for the ultra heavy parts, like at the end of "Kuningatar." Other effects I used were the Dunlop Echoplex pedal and the Strymon Capistan. I love tape echo sounds and these pedals emulate it. Also, another effect I really like and couldn't live without is the Earthquaker Devices Transmisser. I used it in three of the songs.
Amps used included an '80s Laney AOR Pro Tube and Orange OR120 from 1975 and a late '70s Matamp GT120. Every rhythm guitar track was recorded with two of them at same time, mainly the Matamp and the Laney. That probably is the main sound of the album, but I think "Hologrami" I recorded with the Orange and the Matamp. About cabs, I used two Orange cabs -- one with Eminence speakers the other with WGS speakers.
Have you had a chance to play live at all since the pandemic?
Nope, we haven't been rehearsing either.
If you had your choice to tour with any five bands and play in any five places, what would they be and why?
We are keeping it for when there's no risk of cancellations, we have some date plans and so on, but it sucks to cancel things so we are just waiting. I would play with Unsane in New York for example then some bands I have liked recently, even if some are inactive at this moment. Belzebong, Nightslug, Domkraft, Follakzoid, and the body also.
That would be a sick line-up!
What parts of the world would you like to travel to?
Well, I've never been to America or Asia. I have been to Europe, the UK, and Russia only.
Okay, yeah it would be cool to have you come over here and play for us sometime.
Yeah, would be nice
Lastly, did you all wear your heart on the opposite sides of your head for this photo to give the illusion that your heads are on backwards? Or was it digitally manipulated to make it look like your heads were on the wrong way? I love the concept!
I made that pic myself. I took two photographs, one of us in front and another in the backs. So then I took the heads of the back picture and put on our front bodies pic, with Photoshop. David lynch-ish vibes!

Book Seventeen: Skeleton Crew
“Don’t go out there... it’s death to go out there...”
Coming off the high that was Different Seasons, and the low that was Night Shift, I wasn’t really sure what to expect with Skeleton Crew. I wasn’t super pumped to pick it up, but, it’s not like I have a lot else to do right now... I voluntarily cleaned my windows this week, and am fighting the urge to clean my baseboards. Someone send help. Or a burger and ten-cent martini from Don’s Diner. Either would be acceptable.
But hey! Skeleton Crew was fun! There were a couple of stories that made me want to throw up in my mouth (Survivor Type, I’m looking at you!); but there were some really, really well done stories as well.
I know I’ve harped on this before, so feel free to skim right past. But this collection was compiled in 1985, and several of these stories are timeless. You could read them, and assume they were written a few years ago. Their subjects (mass hysteria, school shootings, paranoia) are still important. Personally, I think that’s the mark of an excellent writer: timeless material. Even if Steve does comment that, “...a particularly good disease I have- literary elephantiasis”.
It’s cool, I’m here for it.
The collection kicks off with The Mist; which is a novella about a deadly mist surrounding a town in western Maine, and a group of people trapped inside a grocery store, and unable to get out.
Well, they can get out, but there’s a good chance they’re going to be killed by a large tentacled beast, or spider webs sharp enough to amputate limbs.
Yeah.
Exactly what I want to be reading right now.
There’s a reason I’ve embraced Amazon’s Whole Foods grocery delivery these days... and no, that reason is not because I’m a boujee bitch... it’s because I hate people.
Speaking of hating people, Steve makes a reference to the Flat-Earth Society. I was shook. I assumed Flat-Earthers were a relatively new phenomenon. But after a little research, I discovered the society started back in 1956. So stupid has been around a long time. If you’re bored during quarantine, I highly recommend the hilarious documentary, Behind the Curve.
The Jaunt is a quasi-post-apocalyptic novel about the need for people to travel to Mars for clean water. Between 1960 and 2030, Earth poisoned most of its water, and needed to find the precious resource on other planets. Again... too much reality, too close to home. But the end of this little story is terrifying.
So, then we get to The Wedding, a mobster story set in Illinois. This is the moment I push my glasses up, adjust my cardigan, and speak like the Midwestern expert I most certainly am (not). First of all Steve, there is no Moxie soda to be found in Illinois. It’s strictly an east coast thing. Second, a character wonders, “I don’t know what a member of the U.S. Navy was doing in Illinois...” Steve, Buddy, hi. Soooo, there’s this place, called Great Lakes Naval Base? It’s in Northern Illinois? It’s been there since 1906? It could explain why you see a TON of sailors walking around Illinois in the summer. I have been known to refer to the ones at Six Flags Great America, eating cotton candy as, “sticky seamen...” because mentally I’m a twelve year old boy.
There’s a particularly good story, aptly titled The Man Who Would Not Shake Hands. It might be the most hilariously relatable (but not really) story in the whole collection. “I have known men whose horror of germs and disease stretched that far and even further... and so may may of you...” Love in the time of Coronavirus, am I right??
Survivor Type. My post-it note simply reads, “Baaaaaarf!” But Steve did consult with an actual doctor on this one, so I’ll at least give him credit for that. I’m not going to spoil this one, I’ll let you go in cold.
Morning Deliveries (Milkman #1). Steve... I give you credit for a lot of things, and a lot of fears you’ve created. Let’s face it: clown-phobia wasn’t a thing until you made it a thing. Right now, there are few things in life that give me joy. But getting food delivered is one of those joys. It makes my life feel normal, and I like to order a pizza and watch The Masked Singer with my family every Wednesday. Please don’t take that away from me with spooky stories about delivery people. My fragile psyche can’t handle it right now.
I think of the entire collection, The Ballad of the Flexible Bullet was my favorite. The theme of spreading paranoia is all too real right now. And I’m working my ass off not to buy into it. So, of course a short story about it is exactly what I should be reading! But seriously y’all, it’s good shit.
This entire collection is such a masterful mix of gross-out horror, and finely-taut psychological horror. And to think, each story started with Steve thinking to himself, “Wouldn’t it be funny if...” This man has jokes for days, kids.
There were no Wisconsin references (disappointing since one of the stories was set in Illinois). There were two Dark Tower references I caught, both in The Mist, “She had a can of Raid in each hand like some crazy gunslinger in an existential comedy...” and “It appeared to be red, the angry color of a cooked lobster. It had claws. It was making a low grunting sound...” Lobstrosities, yo!
But there were also several Cujo mentions. Let me tell you... the town of Castle Rock has not forgotten about Joe Camber or his dog.
Total Wisconsin Mentions: 14
Total Dark Tower References: 12

Old art done back in December/January, but still Valid.
Some drawings of my babiesssss!!!
I apologise I've been off for a while, a mixture because my computer was bust for a long while and because I keep forgetting to upload here on Tumblr!
But hello I'm back *dramatic gestures* and these are my ugly, troubled children. They're from some books I've been writing for the past three years, called "The Thorvendor Chronicles" (or just TTC).
On every other social media I have, I'm none stop talking about them, but I've realised I left my lovely Tumblr folk in the dark about my babes.
So here they are, I'll give a general view of who my babes are and talk about them more in later posts (because BOY HAVE I PAINTED A LOT SINCE Y'ALL LAST SAW, IM SORRY IF I SPAM!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So what is TTC about you ask? Well it's a gothic, fantasy, period drama, in which my band of misfits get themselves into all sorts of trouble, in the world Andium.
Introductions! (This is spoiler free, so if I'm talking about some characters back stories and not others, its because I don't want to spoil anything). ^^ enjoy.
Fabian, he's 35 year old Henvro (a species of my design, I'll ramble about them later) and my main character in TTC, he is the head of the royal guards in the human capital city of Novian, which means he controls majority of the human empires military. He is a kind and reserved man, who works hard and is polite to everyone he meets. He's a bit of a lonely fellow, on account of his slightly awkward demeanor when in social situations, annnndddd the fact that his appearance, being a Henvro, is off putting to them racist humans and other species that reside in the city. So, as a result he lives alone in his humble town house near the city centre.
Arwen, at 28 years old, he is second in command of the royal guards and partner to Fabian in the military, unlike Fabian, he is an actual celebrity, an icon for fashion, and freedom of speech, and considered far ahead of his time. He is a celebrity of questionable origin, however, rumoured to have got his first fame "performing" in night clubs as an entertainer, the loud, confident and an intelligent individual is always the centre of attention, and if he isn't? Well, he will do anything in his power to make sure it is!
Phoebe, is 26 years old and is currently in training to be a field nurse in the army, she's a obnoxious, hyperactive, selfish young women who thinks little of others feelings. Close friends with Fabian and Arwen the three spend a lot of time together off duty, both boys becoming well acquainted with her eccentric lifestyle and spoilt brat behaviour.
Kayla, a stern and cold women, with a very masculine presence, also of the age of 26, is both Phoebe's boss and soon to be, sister in law. Kayla is an incredibly intelligent and logical individual, who waltzed her way to the top of the medical field and became the first female doctor in Novian at the age of 20, being stationed as assistant to Sir Welth, a Doctor who ran the royal academy of science and magicology, her thirst to learn about the field of medicine, surgery and alchemy was all quenched by his side. But upon Doctor Welths death, he requested for the young Kayla to take his position as head of the Royal academy and hospital. Followed by some uproar and discourse about it, everyone eventually approved of her being stationed as the head of the academy and hospital. Few years on, through the struggle, she had earned the respect and recognition she deserves, through her professional and reserved attitude, her workaholic life style finally payed off, but at the unfortunate price of her social life and lack of any kind of companionship.
Kayrus, he is 28 years old, older brother to Kayla and Phoebe's fiancé, he works as a barber surgeon in the slums of the capital city, unlike his qualified and knowledgeable little sister, Kayrus is a self taught surgeon (and Barber) who owns a practice with his assistant, Neo. Kayrus is a large, generally quiet man, who naturally has an intimidating presence. Cursed with terrifying, unpredictable mood swings, it's left him the nasty reputation of being "unstable" and said to be a perfect candidate for the mad house, but anybody who actually knows him, knows that's not the case, he's a caring, sickly, man with a passionate heart for both his fiancé and for the love of the arts. He takes his work seriously and lives frugally with Neo, away from the glitz and glamour of the centre of the capital.
Neo, a frail human who's 24 years old, living with their master Kayrus. Neo tends to say very little and enjoys to just observe others, very emotional and what they lack with intelligence they make up for in their streetwise behaviour. Working as Kayrus sister is the practice, their job is to clean the instruments and tools, dispose of any limbs that are amputated (or a body if a surgery goes wrong) and or keep everything as orderly as possible for Kayrus if not being his delivery and errand runner.
Raymond, at 39 years old, a doctor and assistant to Kayla, he is a very friendly man by nature. He tends to get on Kayla's nerves a lot as he finds himself rather attached to her... Some might say that he takes romantic interest in her (but believe me, she ain't having it and makes sure things are ALWAYS professional between the two of them and nothing more).
Ava, a cocky young Henvro women at the age of 33, she has no time for anybody and won't hesitate to sass you if she pleases. With a vulgar sense of humour and crude euphemisms, she equals Arwen with inappropriate conversations. With a lively sense of adventure she tends to hang around Fabian when she can, encouraging and teasing him to rebel and have more fun rather than act his usual, mature, self. (He never listens... Sometimes >:3).
Clara, is a sweet young Lady who is only 20 years old, a true image of a Victorian upper class women, well mannered, smartly dressed and obedient.... Sometimes! Her instinct to investigate and explore new environments often gets her into trouble, she struggles to stay put and itches for obscure forms of entertainment, namely with Arwen. Her favourite past time is digging up the deepest and darkest secrets of everyone she encounters, not out of malicious intentions, I assure you, but to simply quench her own curiosity!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There's a little introduction to my main babies, I draw them a lot and I'm sorry I haven't introduced you all to them properly yet! Considering Ive had Tumblr for about 5 or 6 years, and had these babies for 3 years now, I'm surprised I've never really shared them. But there you have it!
My asks are always open if you have questions about them!!

Sister Rosetta Tharpe
Sister Rosetta Tharpe (March 20, 1915 – October 9, 1973) was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and recording artist. A pioneer of mid-20th-century music, she attained popularity in the 1930s and 1940s with her gospel recordings, characterized by a unique mixture of spiritual lyrics and rhythmic accompaniment that was a precursor of rock and roll. She was the first great recording star of gospel music and among the first gospel musicians to appeal to rhythm-and-blues and rock-and-roll audiences, later being referred to as "the original soul sister" and "the godmother of rock and roll". She influenced early rock-and-roll musicians, including Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Willing to cross the line between sacred and secular by performing her music of "light" in the "darkness" of nightclubs and concert halls with big bands behind her, Tharpe pushed spiritual music into the mainstream and helped pioneer the rise of pop-gospel, beginning with her 1939 hit "This Train". Her unique music left a lasting mark on more conventional gospel artists, such as Ira Tucker, Sr., of the Dixie Hummingbirds. While she offended some conservative churchgoers with her forays into the pop world, she never left gospel music.
Tharpe's 1944 hit "Down by the Riverside" was selected for the National Recording Registry of the U.S. Library of Congress in 2004, which noted that it "captures her spirited guitar playing and unique vocal style, demonstrating clearly her influence on early rhythm-and-blues performers" and cited her influence on "many gospel, jazz, and rock artists". ("Down by the Riverside" was recorded by Tharpe on December 2, 1948, in New York City, and issued as Decca single 48106.) Her 1945 hit "Strange Things Happening Every Day", recorded in late 1944, featured Tharpe's vocals and electric guitar, with Sammy Price (piano), bass and drums. It was the first gospel record to cross over, hitting no. 2 on the Billboard "race records" chart, the term then used for what later became the R&B chart, in April 1945. The recording has been cited as precursor of rock and roll.
Childhood and early career
Most sources state that she was born Rosetta Nubin in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, to Katie Bell Nubin and Willis Atkins, who were cotton pickers. However, researchers Bob Eagle and Eric LeBlanc give her birth name as Rosether Atkins (or Atkinson), her mother's name being Katie Harper. Little is known of her father, except that he was a singer. Tharpe's mother Katie was also a singer and a mandolin player, evangelist, and preacher for the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), which was founded in 1894 by Charles Harrison Mason, a black Baptist bishop, who encouraged rhythmic musical expression, dancing in praise and allowing women to preach in church. Encouraged by her mother, Tharpe began singing and playing the guitar as Little Rosetta Nubin at the age of four and was cited as a musical prodigy.
By age six, Tharpe had joined her mother as a regular performer in a traveling evangelical troupe. Billed as a "singing and guitar playing miracle," she accompanied her mother in performances that were part sermon and part gospel concert before audiences across the American South.
In the mid-1920s, Tharpe and her mother settled in Chicago, Illinois, where they performed religious concerts at the COGIC church on 40th Street, occasionally traveling to perform at church conventions throughout the country. Tharpe developed considerable fame as a musical prodigy, standing out in an era when prominent black female guitarists were rare. In 1934, at age 19, she married Thomas Thorpe, a COGIC preacher, who accompanied her and her mother on many of their tours. The marriage lasted only a few years, but she decided to adopt a version of her husband's surname as her stage name, Sister Rosetta Tharpe. In 1938, she left her husband and moved with her mother to New York City. Although she married several times, she performed as Rosetta Tharpe for the rest of her life.
Recording career
On October 31, 1938, aged 23, Tharpe recorded for the first time – four sides for Decca Records, backed by Lucky Millinder's jazz orchestra. The first gospel songs ever recorded by Decca, "Rock Me," "That's All," "My Man and I" and "The Lonesome Road" were instant hits, establishing Tharpe as an overnight sensation and one of the first commercially successful gospel recording artists. "Rock Me" influenced many rock-and- roll singers, such as Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and Jerry Lee Lewis. In 1942, the music critic Maurie Orodenker, describing Tharpe's "Rock Me", wrote that "It's Sister Rosetta Tharpe for the rock-and roll spiritual singing." She had signed a seven-year contract with Reminder and was managed by Mo Galye. Her records caused an immediate furor: many churchgoers were shocked by the mixture of gospel-based lyrics and secular-sounding music, but secular audiences loved them. She played on several occasions with the white singing group the Jordanaires.
Tharpe's appearances with the jazz artist Cab Calloway at Harlem's Cotton Club in October 1938 and in John Hammond's "Spirituals to Swing" concert at Carnegie Hall on December 23, 1938, gained her more fame, along with notoriety. These performances, which both shocked and awed the crowds, were controversial as well as revolutionary in several respects. Performing gospel music for secular nightclub audiences and alongside blues and jazz musicians and dancers was unusual, and in conservative religious circles a woman playing the guitar in such settings was frowned upon. For these reasons, Tharpe fell out of favor with segments of the gospel community. Her recordings of "This Train" and "Rock Me", which combined gospel themes with bouncy up-tempo arrangements, were hits in the late 1930s with audiences having little previous exposure to gospel music.
It has been suggested Tharpe had little choice in the material she was contracted to record with Millinder. "Rosetta and Millinder were increasingly at odds in 1943, as Rosetta itched to quit the big-band circuit and renew her career as a strictly gospel act. As Roxie Moore remembers, she hadn't wanted to do light fare poking fun at old-time religion or worldly material like 'Tall Skinny Papa', but found herself bound by contractual obligations." Her nightclub performances, in which she would sometimes sing gospel songs amid scantily clad showgirls, caused her to be shunned by some in the gospel community.
It also should be noted that during this time masculinity was directly linked to guitar skills. Tharpe defied this gender construct and instead of being praised for playing so uniquely and boldly was often offered the back handed compliment from fans and media that she merely could "play like a man", despite the fact that she could and did outplay many men of the time exemplifying her skills at guitar battles at the Apollo. She was revolutionary and disrupted the music genre with both her sex and race.
Tharpe continued recording during World War II, one of only two gospel artists able to record V-discs for troops overseas. Her song "Strange Things Happening Every Day", recorded in 1944 with Sammy Price, Decca's house boogie woogie pianist, showcased her virtuosity as a guitarist and her witty lyrics and delivery. It was the first gospel song to make Billboard's Harlem Hit Parade (later known as Race Records, then R&B) Top Ten, an achievement she would accomplish several more times in her career. This 1944 record has been credited by some as being the first rock and roll record. Tharpe toured throughout the 1940s, backed by various gospel quartets, including the Dixie Hummingbirds.
In 1946 Tharpe saw Marie Knight perform at a Mahalia Jackson concert in New York. Tharpe recognized a special talent in Knight. Two weeks later, Tharpe showed up at Knight's doorstep, inviting her to go on the road. They toured the gospel circuit for a number of years, during which they recorded hits such as "Up Above My Head" and "Gospel Train". Though dismissed by both artists as gossip, several in the Gospel community speculated that Knight and Tharpe maintained a romantic and sexual relationship.
Starting in 1949, their popularity took a sudden downturn. Mahalia Jackson was starting to eclipse Tharpe in popularity, and Knight harbored a desire to break free as a solo act into popular music. Furthermore, around this time, Knight lost her children and mother in a house-fire. That same year, to commemorate Tharpe's one-year anniversary of being a homeowner in Richmond, Virginia, Tharpe put on a concert at what is now the Altria Theater. Supporting her for that concert were the Twilight Singers, whom Rosetta adopted as her background singers for future concerts, renaming them "The Rosettes."
Tharpe attracted 25,000 paying customers to her wedding to her manager, Russell Morrison (her third marriage), followed by a vocal performance at Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C., in 1951. In 1957, Tharpe was booked for a month-long tour of the UK by British trombonist Chris Barber.
In April and May 1964, at the height of a surge of popular interest in the blues, she toured Europe as part of the Blues and Gospel Caravan, alongside Muddy Waters and Otis Spann, Ransom Knowling and Little Willie Smith, Reverend Gary Davis, Cousin Joe, and Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. Tharpe was introduced on stage and accompanied on piano by Cousin Joe Pleasant. Under the auspices of George Wein, the Caravan was stage-managed by Joe Boyd. A concert, in the rain, was recorded by Granada Television at the disused railway station at Wilbraham Road, Manchester, in May 1964. The band performed on one platform while the audience was seated on the opposite platform.
Later life and death
Tharpe's performances were curtailed by a stroke in 1970, after which one of her legs was amputated as a result of complications from diabetes. On October 9, 1973, the eve of a scheduled recording session, she died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a result of another stroke. She was buried in Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia.
Later recognition
A resurgence of interest in Tharpe's work has led to a biography, several NPR segments, scholarly articles, and honors. The United States Postal Service issued a 32-cent commemorative stamp to honor Tharpe on July 15, 1998. In 2007, she was inducted posthumously into the Blues Hall of Fame. In 2008, a concert was held to raise funds for a marker for her grave, and January 11 was declared Sister Rosetta Tharpe Day in Pennsylvania. A gravestone was put in place later that year, and a Pennsylvania historical marker was approved for placement at her home in the Yorktown neighborhood of Philadelphia. In 2011 BBC Four aired a one-hour documentary, Sister Rosetta Tharpe: The Godmother of Rock & Roll, written and directed by UK filmmaker Mick Csaky. In 2013 the film was shown in the US as part of the PBS series American Masters. The film has been repeated numerous times in the UK and US, most recently in March 2015 to mark the 100th anniversary of Tharpe's birth. On March 20, 2015, the UK newspaper The Guardian published a 100th-birthday tribute by Richard Williams. On September 12, 2016, the musical play Marie And Rosetta, based on the relationship between Tharpe and Marie Knight, opened at the Atlantic Theater Company in New York.
Musical influence
Musically, Tharpe's unique guitar style blended melody-driven urban blues with traditional folk arrangements and incorporated a pulsating swing sound that is one of the first clear precursors of rock and roll.
Little Richard referred to the stomping, shouting, gospel music performer as his favorite singer when he was a child. In 1947, she heard Richard sing prior to her concert at the Macon City Auditorium and later invited him on stage to sing with her; it was Richard's first public performance outside of the church. Following the show, she paid him for his performance, which inspired him to become a performer. When Johnny Cash gave his induction speech at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, he referred to Tharpe as his favorite singer when he was a child. His daughter Rosanne Cash stated in an interview with Larry King that Tharpe was her father's favorite singer. Tharpe began recording with electric guitar in the 1940s, with "That's All", which has been cited as an influence on Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. Other musicians, including Aretha Franklin, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Isaac Hayes, have identified her singing, guitar playing, and showmanship as an important influence on them. She was held in particularly high esteem by UK jazz/blues singer George Melly. Tina Turner credits Tharpe, along with Mahalia Jackson, as an early musical influence. Such diverse performers as Meat Loaf, Neil Sedaka and Karen Carpenter have attested to the influence of Tharpe in the rhythmic energy she emanated in her performances (Carpenter's drum fills are especially reminiscent of Tharpe's "Chorlton Chug"). Later artists, such as Sean Michel, have credited her influence with the performance of gospel songs in more secular venues.
The Brixton band Alabama 3 named a track after Tharpe on their debut album, Exile on Coldharbour Lane (1997), and recorded a version of her song "Up Above My Head". In 2007, the UK indie rock band the Noisettes released the single "Sister Rosetta (Capture the Spirit)", from their album What's the Time Mr. Wolf? Also in 2007, Alison Krauss and Robert Plant recorded a duet version of the song "Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us", written by Sam Phillips. Phillips released her version of the song on her 2008 album, Don't Do Anything. Michelle Shocked opened her live gospel album ToHeavenURide (2007) with "Strange Things Happening Every Day", along with a tribute to Tharpe.
In 2001, the French film Amélie included a scene showing the protagonist's house-bound neighbor mesmerized by a montage of video clips that featured a performance of "Up Above My Head" by Tharpe.
In 2014 the Canadian film Félix et Meira included about one minute of Tharpe singing "Didn't It Rain" from the video of Tharpe's 1964 concert at the Wilbraham Road railway station.
In 2016 singer Mary Chapin Carpenter wrote and recorded "Oh Rosetta" for her "The Things That We Are Made Of" album. Mary Chapin explained during touring following the cd's release that she was imagining a conversation with Sister Rosetta.

“Alright, thank you for your time.” Another door shut behind Spencer and Emily as yet another neighbor knew and saw nothing. The fear pulsed through him, turning quickly into anger as he drove his fist into the brick wall of the building once they made it outside.
Emily looked shocked, her eyes widened and eyebrows shot up. Sure, you had snapped at her before, but she had never seen you so angry you resorted to physical violence. Your intelligence was your weapon. Her face took on a calmer and kinder expression as she reached for Spencer’s shoulder.
Spencer jerked away, raising his hands. As he turned and walked a few steps away, he pressed his palms to his eyes as the pressure built behind them along with his frustrations. He could normally come up with 100 statistics, 1,000 precise facts, but right now he couldn’t think of anything except how hopeless he felt. They had no physical evidence, no witnesses, they barely had a profile.
Emily was about to re-approach when she felt her phone ringing in her pocket. The Caller I.D was for Hotch so she didn’t even hesitate to pick up.
“Do you have anything?” Her tone was serious and flat. Spencer turned to watch her expressions during the phone call.
Her eyes widened in reaction to whatever the person on the other end of the line was saying.
“Text me the details, we’ll all be heading over right now. Thank you.” He didn’t know whether to dare let himself hope or if he should let the dread overtake him. That one sentence could mean so many things. Were they going to a crime scene to find a body, a hospital to find you fine and healthy, a hospital to watch you die?
“Police were called by a young boy. He said his mother ‘Stole a lady and she’s very sick.’ Hotch sent the address for the hospital to me.” Emily was trying to keep a brave face and an even tone. ‘Very sick’ from a child wasn’t promising, especially in their line of work.
Spencer felt like his legs were going to give out from underneath him. Since as long as he could remember, there was a constant barrier between his emotions and himself. That barrier was fitting to burst as conflicting emotions landed blow after blow on his walls. Fear for your health, Anger that he couldn’t find you sooner, worthlessness because he could have prevented this if he had just stayed the night with you when you asked, Hope that you were okay and healthy as possible and if not that, at the very least alive.
“Spencer, come on. I know it’s a lot, but she needs you.” Emily’s voice brought him back from his short break from the control he usual held over himself. He nodded, at a lost for words for once in his life as they both jogged towards the SUV, Derek and Alex following after leaving a nearby shop.
“We go the call and info. Everything going to be alright, Pretty boy, okay?” Morgan had his serious eyebrows on, Alex agreeing from somewhere behind both of the male agents.
“There will be hell to pay if it isn’t.” Emily added after they had all settled into the dark car.
Not even the jolting of the ambulance ride had woken you, but you were jolted awake when you felt a horrible pain right in the middle of your chest.
‘Oh god, i’m having a heart attack. I'm going to die.’ You wanted to sob but all the sensations were keeping you from thinking too much on your thoughts and feelings. Another jolt of pressure and pain. You heard the groan pass your lips before you really felt it. Your eyes fluttered open, burning under the bright white lights.
“Ma’am, Ma’am are you with us?” One voice came from above you.
Another from in front of you. “Patient is starting to show signs of responsiveness.”
You couldn’t bring yourself to speak, your throat destroyed from all the force and acid of the past…...however long it had been since you had entered hell. You just grunted before you felt a dry-heave spasm through your torso.
“We’re gonna need Ativan, Zofran-” The nurse or doctors or whosoever’s voice faded out as your eyes rolled back in your head again before you closed them. The pain and discomfort made you want to beg for death, or at least their strongest pain medications.
“We’re going to need and X-ray to see how bad the damage is so we can decide the best course of action.” You just wanted to pass out again. Their voices and all the lights and sounds were grating on your ears and just made your nausea worse if you were being honest.
“Alright, I’m going to be giving you medication for muscle spasms, nausea, and pain, alright? You’re most likely going to need a blood transfusion, also. Do you know your blood type?”
‘Ohmygod please stop talking to me please just give me drugs and blood, holy shit.’ Those were the only real thoughts you were having at the moment. “B….plus.” Was all you could really manage.
“Alright, thank you. We need B plus, ASAP.”
“On it!”
For the reminder of your time awake and feeling, you zoned out. It was all you could do to try to escape the pain while you waited for the medications to kick in. You were alive. In a hospital. Surely, you would be seeing Spencer soon? What if he didn’t even know that you were missing? What if he didn’t even care? You could hear your heart rate rising as new tears mingled with the old dried ones on your cheeks. Soon, you were too high to even be bothered with emotions.
In that moment, you understood. You felt close to what Spencer felt. You understood why he would choose this over you. Those were your last thoughts before the radiologist entered your room.
You stirred, more comfortable than you had felt in the past few days. Your pain was probably at a 3 or 4 instead of an outrageous 11. Something...didn’t feel right. You felt too light. Something was missing. What was missing?
‘Oh my god.’ Was all that your drug addled brain could come up with once you finally had the muscle strength to lift your head and look down. Where your right leg once was, there was now just sunken blanket.
“Y/N oh my god.” You turned your head, confused to hear a voice other than your own.
There was Spencer, standing up from the uncomfortable hospital chair, tears in his beautiful eyes. Seeing him when you thought you were never going to see him again, you didn’t care about your stupid leg. You lost 3/4ths of your right leg, but you were still alive to see that beautiful grin splay across his face as he took the one long step to bend over and hold your face in his.
You were both nose to nose, your breath intermingling. There were no real words that could be said in this moment. All the fear, anger, and hopelessness was resolved in this moment. You were filled with the love and determination Spencer always made you feel, but now more so than ever. Finally, after neither of you could decide on any words to speak, your lips crashed together.
Your lips were chapped and clumsy due to all the medication and lack of water, but Spencer didn’t show any kind of deterioration in his passion. The increasing rate of your heart could be heard through your heart monitor as you wrapped your arms around his neck, letting out a soft moan against his lips.
Spencer pulled away, kissing your nose before pressing his forehead to yours.
“I’m not great with being emotional, but god, I was so scared. I don’t think I have ever felt so afraid in my life as when I first saw your apartment.” You could hear the strain of tears in his voice. Your vision was a little blurry but you could see his eyes shining as he spoke. “I’m so sorry. I should have stayed like you asked, I should have paid more attention to your body language. I should have-”
“Spencer, Spencer stop.” You moved one hand from behind his neck to his chest. You weren’t sure you could articulate how you felt precisely, since you were high on all kinds of narcotics. but you couldn’t listen to him blame himself. “None of this is your fault. If it’s anyone’s, it’s mine. I didn’t take the threats seriously until she was at my door. Look, it’s okay. I’m okay. I’m not in one piece, but that’s fine because I’m alive with you by my side.”
You giggled at your own joke, letting him know it was fine to laugh with you. When he smiled and let out a short breathy chuckle, it filled you with more joy than you had felt in a long time. Spencer excused himself for a moment so he could call the team and let them know you were awake and okay enough to talk. For the first time in a while you felt like everything was going to be okay.
“Did you know in the United States alone, there are over 500 amputations a day? And over 185,000 every year.” It was dinner time at the hospital, and it had been a few days. Spencer and yourself were snacking on some jello and watching Animal Planet on the hospital T.V.
Hearing him spewing facts was so relieving. For the past few days, he had rarely been talking about anything other than how much he loved you and how sorry he was. You tried not to look surprised, but instead nodded your head and chuckled.
“And I’m one of them!” You glanced over at him, smiling. “It’s nice to know I’m not alone.”
“Far from it.” The gorgeous nerd reached over and patted your remaining thigh.
“Alright, love birds! Here comes the daily delivery.” Garcia’s bright and cheery voice rang through the door as she waddled in on bright blue high heels, her blush perfectly highlighting her cheeks as she grinned, holding 3 vases with mixed bouquets and 7 different cards and 2 balloons.
“Jeeze. I think I get the message, guys. You really want to me to get out of here.” You reached your arms up, enveloping Penelope in a hug before grabbing the cards as she set the vases down in water free spots were left in the hospital.
All of the cards were from the team except for one. The name you found on the inside surprised you.
Spencer picked up on your surprise and his mind must have been jumping to the worst conclusions because he immediately had his profiler face on. “Who is it from?”
“Do you remember Paula, my friend who kind of stormed out of the hospital after….the, uh, incident.”
“Yeah, Of course.” Spencer leaned over the arm of the bed to read the card over your shoulder. His face fell and you felt yours twist in anger.
“Oh, no, angel. What did she say?” Garcia hurried towards you, looking down at the card before you ripped it into pieces.
“Told you so.” Spencer read off from his photographic memory, his lips dragging down at the corners in a frown.
“What a bitch.” Garcia turned towards you. “No offense.”
“None fucking taken. If she comes up here I will personally kick her ass.” You felt Spencer’s hand on your shoulder and Penelope was shaking her head.
“Don’t waste your energy, hun. You have a group of badass FBI agents to take care of her if she tries to bother either of you.” Garcia pulled up a chair next to your bedside, taking your hand in hers. “I mean, you could absolutely take care of her yourself, but It would probably hinder the healing process.”
Garcia had been such an angel this entire time. Of course she sobbed like a baby once she first laid eyes on your leg, or lack thereof, but now you were all bantering and joking about it easily.
“You’re an angel you know that? Does the team know that? Spencer, do you know that?” You looked between the two, Garcia flapping her hand flamboyantly like she was trying to shoo you away.
“Oh, stop.”
“Yes, The team is extremely aware of how much of a blessing Garcia is.” You all laughed and for the first time since being kidnapped, you felt relatively normal. It was easy banter for the rest of the night, other members of the team entering the room to chat and wish you the best. Hotch surprised you with your own wheelchair and you nearly cried. You hadn’t been thinking ahead that far, and admittedly neither had Spencer. You were both just enjoying the fact that you were alive and in the same room for the first time in days.
You were so thankful for these humans in your life. If you had been going through this alone, in all honesty you would be dead. You were so privileged to know them and to have met them. You were going to make sure they knew that and that they felt appreciated for the rest of the time you were in their lives. For now, though, everyone but Spencer was hugging you and telling you to rest and the medication was making you pretty sleepy.
You fell asleep holding Spencer’s hand over the railing of your bed, the sounds of Animal Planet in the background.
