The center section of the veneered newel has some air pockets. So I had to cut a small opening, object some glue, and clamp. Often is use plexus glass for my caulk so I can see my glue ups. If you are off by a 1/32 in your angle at the top of the bookcase the projection at the bottom of bookcase will be off 3/8 of an inch or more. Stripping and refinishing a top for another shop. It’s amazing to me how many people just think anyone can fix or refinish an item. But that’s another discussion for another day. • • Anyways, this top was repaired once and stained dark. Under all the mud there is some amazing grain and color. Instead of removing the old repairs I decide to work with them. I added some pores with a graining pencil to help blend things together visually. My favorite game to play is dominos. I’m not sure if it’s because my heritage or if it’s seeing my Dad gets competitive. Which by the way is the only time he gets competitive. Well there is something to be said about the festool domino! I use the darn thing for almost everything. So you can imagine I also love making domino loose tenons for the job at hand. A quick round over bit or beading bit does quick work and I can produce 100’s of dominos in 15 mins or so. Don’t waste changing bits, just buy routers by the dozen. I was able to cut the table base pattern on the bandsaw. I cut as to the line as possible and will refine the curve with hand tools. #freddyromanmakerandrestorer

Making a master pattern starts with a full scale drawing. Once the drawing is made I stipple on the drawing into 1/8 plywood. After all the stippling is done I connect the dots with a pencil.
