Preview: How long would he last?

Forever?

That seemed like an awfully long time.

Jason grabbed the blistered man’s body by the ankle, dragging it out, and ignored the click of the other’s jaw. He hadn’t woken when he first entered, in some floating stasis, but all the clambering had alerted him to his presence.

“Hey, don’t you start using me as fish bait, Hockey Puck!” That was silly. Jason didn’t eat fish anymore. He didn’t eat anything. Though some days he liked to think he could remember Mommy’s cooking, the way she made fried chicken, or the cherry pie that always scalded his mouth for his impatience.

Jason reached for his belt, nails scratching, but not catching through his gloves. He ripped them off, large knuckles snapping the seams, and let them fall around his boots. Fog burst before his mask as a rough groan melted past his teeth, ears buzzing so hard he couldn’t hear whatever comment the blistered man made from the other room.
