Photo of the Day – The Horned Puffin (Fratercula corniculata) is similar in appearance to Atlantic Puffin (F. arctica), but with different bill colours and a longer fleshy ‘horn’ above each eye. The species feeds mainly by diving for fish, and nests in colonies, usually with other auks.
This great photo was taken by Stephan Lorenz during our most recent tour of Alaska

Credit © 🎞 ✅ @loriannah 🖋 This Puffin flew overhead as if to say “here I am….go ahead and take your 📷 shot” It was a surprise to see this bird so close yet in a split second it was gone. This was my first time ever seeing Puffin birds. I’ve waited a long time & so grateful I got to photograph them while aboard the Seward based @kenaifjordstours in the Kenai National Park in Alaska @kenaifjordsnps. Two species live in Alaskan waters: the horned puffin (Fratercula corniculata) and the tufted puffin (Fratercula cirrhata). They are so colorful & super adorable. “These are pelagic seabirds that feed primarily by diving in the water. They breed in large colonies on coastal cliffs or offshore islands, nesting in crevices among rocks or in burrows in the soil” #puffin #puffins #kenaifjordsnationalpark Captured with my #canonr5 #canonrf100-500 lens #explore_wildlife #excellent_nature #wildlife_perfection #exclusive_wildlife #live_love_wildlife #explore_wildlife #wildplanetphotomag #explore_wildlife #excellent_nature #wildlife_vision #alaskaadventure #wild_life #discoverwildlife #animalcritter @canonusa @canon_photos #visitalaska #thealaskalife #nuts_about_wildlife #animal_captures #explore_wildlife #excellent_nature #wildlife_vision #nuts_about_birds #wingsinmotion _birds #best_bird_shots #oceanlifemagazine #best_birds_of_world #wildlifephotography #nuts_about_birds #ilovetravelingtheworld #ilovetravelling #ilovenature #ilovealaska (at Alaska National Parks) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSM1kgOq5dg/?utm_medium=tumblr

Sexually mature Fratercula corniculata birds have a small fleshy black "horn" extending upwards from the eye, from which the animal derives its common name — the horned puffin
