u know I say the alpha kids are badly written but tbh this last reread it didnt even bother me that much..... I think they just didnt get enough convos where they were shown to be friends???? jane especially like other than a few chats w jake and one w dirk at the beginning she has drama w all of them from the start (which gets somewhat resolved w roxy but the later convos we see w jane and roxy are all just jane venting about her problems. despite jane literally complaining about jake doing that to her lmao)..... dirk gets it almost as bad tho bc shit u not I’m pretty sure most of the REAL conversations we see him have are with ar. ar takes over most of the communication w his friends which. fair but we dont get to see a legit convo between dirk and jake...... period???? we see jakes dream memory of one, which turns into dirk being brain ghost dirk, we see dirk sending a bunch of messages to jake that jake decides not to respond to, and we see a lot of jake talking to ar and brain ghost dirk. and its like.... how are we supposed to believe these kids are friends if theyre not actually talking to each other uknow??? and maybe the answer is theyre not. esp in terms of jane and dirk talking to jake; they both put him on this idealized pedestal and jake does the same thing back to them so the lack of genuine conversations between them make sense except we never get any catharsis for any of that.... we dont get the moment where they all reconnect. we dont get to see how they connected in the first place. and we dont even get any of that in the epilogues bc the epilogues brutalized all three of their characterizations!!! so idk its weird
