Day Three Hundred Ninety: Christian Heigold, a German immigrant and stonecutter, moved to the city of Louisville in the mid 1850's when the anti-immigrant sentiment was strong. To remove any doubt of his patriotism he fashioned the facade of his home with pictures of Presidents James Buchanan and George Washington, and the words "Hail to Buchanan, Now and Forever", and "The Union Forever. Hail to the Union Forever; Never Dissolve It." He also carved "Hail to the City of Louisville". After his neighborhood was destroyed by flood and the expansion of the city dump, Mayor Charles Farnsley saved the facade of the home.
