Frank Film, 1974 and Begone Dull Care, 1949
Frank Film, overwhelming at first, but soon I realized that once I stopped fighting the need to concentrate, I was able to take it all in. The focus then became his story. The pictures and F-words became descriptive filler to amplify the story and picture in our minds. The similarity in the photos helped the autobiography come to life and the words or possibly audible chunking clarified and completed the autobiography. This was intentional and although it’s a challenge to control the audience’s mind, this definitely went for it.
Begone Dull Care showed me animation but I saw a live band. How is it possible to humanize the figures and musically match the feeling or action? I saw uniform connectedness in the portions of the musical moments that matched and proximity with the figures that were musically playing against in a jazz like way.
Where as Frank Film showed me exactly what I needed to see, Begone Dull Care made my eyes play tricks on me. My mind could imagine a full band concert. Well, maybe it did show me what it wanted me to see. Maybe it is only giving me the illusion of freedom of imagination.

Response to Frank Film (1974)
initially, the film is an overwhelming watch, being a blend of an array of visuals and two different audio in the background, all seemingly unconnected. but the transitions are so well done that soon enough, it makes complete sense and one can make sense of the story he is saying. that is uniform connectedness in play. simultaneously, i could also notice how other gestalt principles are used throughout the film while uniform connectedness remains the overarching principle, central to the storytelling
i loved how the images follow similarity in their individual shapes, but work with good continuation as the transitions begin. they compliment the storytelling very well, creating a sense of completeness.

frank ocean has written some of the most powerful lyrics i’ve ever experienced and it just 🥺💞
he has an insane power to make simple lyrics sound insane (i thought that i was dreaming when you said you loved me, taxi driver you’re my shrink for the hour) or writes the wildest lyrics without a blink (one too many years, some tattooed eyelids on a facelift) like he is, insane. one of the greatest artist of our generation for sure, i have so much love and respect for him.

EXKLUSIV: Szene aus “Frank”
yahoo
Ab 27. August im Kino

Frank Film is an awarded short animation film produced by Frank and Caroline Mouris.
At the beginning it is quite complicated to understand the animation and both voices (one reading a list of words beginning with F and the other reading Frank´s autobiography), both as individual elements and related to each other. When I got used to this aesthetic, I came to the idea that this movie is a representation of a mental process: while you speak about something, hundreds (if not thousands) of images pass through your mind, some related to what you are saying and some not. At the same time, other processes occur in your mind, in the movie represented by the voice reading the F word list.
The two voices are performed by Frank Mouris and at some points of the movie they are combined and heard as only one, a effect produced using the Gestalt principle of closure (humans tend to simplify and complete ambiguous or incomplete data or images). This produce a interesting and surprising effect, since it changes completely the sense of what we were hearing before.
The visual part of the movie is obviously not random. All images have some kind of relation to the part of the autobiography one of the voices is reading, or to the combination of this voice with the other. The are disposed using some of the Gestalt Principles, specially similarity, proximity and Figure/Ground. Each time more figures are added to the ones already in the screen, the latter, which were figures, become ground.
