"- "Kill someone and get away with it" rich." (Greer's PR - Episode 1)
"- There you go. Ask, and you shall receive." (Greer - Episode 1)
"- Will, prescription roulette? You want to throw some Addies in the mix? (Thomas) - I sold all mine." (Will - Episode 1)
"- Mrs. Amelia washes her own dishes. It's rude. I don't come into her job at the zoo and pet the animals." (Gosia - Episode 1)
"- You know what, Carl? I just met you, and I... I already don't like you. (The detective) - Carl chuckles. - Like, at all." (The detective - Episode 1)
"- What? They're all in it for the money. But at least my wife matches the fucking wallpaper." (Thomas - Episode 1)
"- We're just filling in the blanks, Amelia, taking control of the narrative." (Greer - Episode 2)
"- Listen, if you make these people the enemy, they will bring in their New York lawyers so fast your head will spin. You got to let them think you work for them, because the minute they feel they're losing control, they burn it all down. I've seen them do it." (Dan Carter - Episode 2)
"- He makes his own bed like a poor person." (Gosia - Episode 2)
"- If you want your clients to respect you, you have to stop talking to them crypto." (Isabel - Episode 2)
"- Anyone who wears flip-flops outside of the confines of their own house should be arrested." (Abby - Episode 2)
"- I mean, guys are always falling all over her, but she believes that if you sleep with someone, you give away your power. (Amelia - Episode 3)
"- Do we have chilled rosé? (Greer) - Oh, of course we have chilled rosé." (ensemble - Episode 3)
"- You know the interesting thing about guilt, Tag? It's not transferable." (Greer - Episode 3)

"- I do love Chablis." (Greer - Episode 3)
"- Byredo Blanche. The literal best." (Abby - Episode 5 ; no Seven Veils)
"- Jesus. It looks like Lilly Pulitzer projectile-vomited all over this place." (Abby - Episode 5)
"- Who is gonna tell the middle-aged men of the world that they cannot wear shorts with loafers? Is it going to have to be me?" (Abby - Episode 3)
"- "He's so rich"? (Amelia) - Well, at Deerfield, he had bodyguards. He's, like, kidnap-rich. (Abby) - He never mentioned that. (Amelia) - Yeah, he plays it down. People with that kind of money don't talk about their money." (Abby - Episode 5)
"- Aren't you people supposed to be able to tell when someone's shining you on? (Tag - Episode 5)
"- In France, we don't let this kind of thing get us down, you know? Maybe you could get some hot apology sex out of it. (Isabel) - Maybe, but we're not in France, and, um, this really isn't helping. Thank you. (Benji) - I'm just saying, don't let it derail your life. And affair is just the heart's way to check if it's still alive. The heart. The pussy." (Isabel - Episode 5)
"- She really came at me. So, I said, "Lady, I'm the one who wrote the guest list, and I promise you're not on it. And then she was like, "Well, check it again." "It's 'Rockerfeller.' R-O-C-K-E-R-F-E-L-L-E-R." (Greer's PR - Episode 5)
"- ... you are beautiful. But that's not why Greer hates you. She hates you because you're real. That's why she hates me too. Because I say what I think. When people have spent their whole lives caring about what others say, they cannot stand to see someone.... They just can't stand to see someone.... Reminds them of their wasted life." (Isabel - Episode 5)
"- I said I didn't care about money. And I don't. I never think about it. (Shooter) - Well, it's a lot easier to say when you've always had it. You're just like the rest of them. No one around here tells the truth. They're all lying. Good we realized this was impossible before we did anything else stupid. And hurt anyone more than we already have. Glad that's settled." (Amelia - Episode 5)
"- I would say what makes it so obvious is what makes it so unlikely." (Episode 5)
"- But anyone who expects to be paid back by someone like him is an idiot. Beautiful women don't kill for money, they don't kill for sex. They can have these things anytime they want." (Isabel - Episode 6)
"- The motive Thomas laid out makes the most sense. (Dan Carter) - Money. (The detective) - Money. (Dan Carter) - With these kind of people, it's always about the money." (The detective - Episode 6)
"- Men are such assholes. (Abby) - Yeah, tell me about it. (Merritt) - Can't trust them not to cheat. Can't trust them not to lie. You really can't trust them to just get the job done. It's true, if you want something done right, you just have to do it yourself." (Abby - Episode 6)

August 2022 Reading Wrap-Up!
1. Beside Myself by Ann Morgan. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
6-year-old twins Ellie and Helen switch identities for a day -- but when Ellie refuses to change back, Helen loses her self-confidence and her identity. 25 years later, Helen risks being pulled into her sister's dangerous orbit once more.
2. A Very, Very Bad Thing by Jeffrey Self. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Marley doesn't just want to be labeled the gay kid, but he doesn't have much else going on. He doesn't have any hobbies. He's the only kid he knows without a passion. A new kid comes to town who has the potential to finally make life interesting in Marley's small town. One problem: he's the son of the country's most famous, most bigoted television evangelist.
3. If We Were Us by K. L. Walther. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Sage Morgan and Charlie Carmichael prove to everyone at Bexley School that their close friendship does not hide a romance when new student Nick Morrissey and Charlie's twin brother, Nick, stir things up.
4. The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time by Mark Haddon. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Despite his overwhelming fear of interacting with people, Christopher, a mathematically-gifted, autistic fifteen-year-old boy, decides to investigate the murder of a neighbor's dog and uncovers secret information about his mother.
5. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Mary is a lonely orphaned girl sent to a Yorkshire mansion at the edge of a vast lonely moor. At first, she is frightened by this gloomy place until she meets a local boy, Dickon, who's earned the trust of the moor's wild animals; the invalid Colin, an unhappy boy terrified of life; and a mysterious, abandoned garden.
6. Looking for Alaska by John Green. ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
Miles is fascinated by famous last words - and tired of his safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet Francois Rabelais called the 'Great Perhaps'. Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young. Clever, funny, screwed-up, and dead sexy, Alaska will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.
7. Mallee Boys by Charlie Archbold. ⭐⭐⭐1/2
Sandy knows that life at 15 is hard, but it's even harder when your mum died a year ago and nothing's gone right since. His brother Red is 18 and working the farm. As Sandy and Red deal with girls, dirt biking, footy and friendship, both have to work out who they want to be, without their mum. It turns out this is going to be one hell of a year.
8. Punching Bag by Rex Ogle. ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
Rex Ogle describes his struggle to survive; reflects on his complex, often paradoxical relationship with his passionate, fierce mother; and charts the trajectory of his stepdad's anger. Hovering over Rex's story is the talismanic presence of his unborn baby sister. Through it all, Rex threads moments of grace and humor that act as beacons of light in the darkness.
9. Bloom by Kevin Panetta. ⭐⭐⭐1/2
After graduation, Ari is desperate to move to the big city with his band, but he has to find someone who can replace him at his parent's struggling bakery, so when he meets Hector he thinks his prayers have been answered.
10. A List Of Cages by Robin Roe. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
When Adam lands the best elective ever in his senior year, serving as an aide to the school psychologist, he thinks he's got it made. Sure, it means a lot of sitting around, which isn't easy for a guy with ADHD, but he can't complain, since he gets to spend the period texting all his friends. Then the doctor asks him to track down the troubled freshman who keeps dodging her, and Adam discovers that the boy is Julian - the foster brother he hasn't seen in five years...
11. Sleepless by Thomas Fahy. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Terrified by the gruesome nightmares and unexplained bouts of sleepwalking that seem to be affecting her and many other students at Saint Opportuna High, Emma and her friends become even more unnerved when, after several deaths, they begin to suspect that something is causing them to kill in their sleep.
12. Colin Fischer by Edward Miller. ⭐⭐⭐1/2
Colin Fischer is 14 and he has Asperberger's syndrome. Much of the world is a mystery - he can't read his classmates' expressions without looking at a chart, the colour blue is really off-putting and he has no idea why his parents like to hug him. But when a gun goes off in the school cafeteria, Colin knows he can work out who did it.
13. Spin Me Right Round by David Valdes. ⭐⭐⭐1/2
Meet Luis. He's out, he's proud ... and, although he doesn't know it yet, he's about to travel back in time to save a closeted student called Chaz from a tragic end.
14. Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Late on a hot summer night in the tail end of 1965, Charlie, a precocious and bookish boy of thirteen, is startled by an urgent knock on the window of his sleepout. His visitor is Jasper, an outcast in the regional mining town of Corrigan. Rebellious, mixed-race and solitary, Jasper is a distant figure of danger and intrigue for Charlie. So when Jasper begs for his help, Charlie eagerly steals into the night by his side, terribly afraid but desperate to impress.
15. Plague by Michael Grant. ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
A deadly, flu-like epidemic and a plague of flesh-eating creatures threaten the lives of the children at Perdido Beach while Sam, Astrid, Caine, and Diana each struggle with doubts and uncertainties.
16. Playlist for the Dead by Michelle Falkoff. ⭐⭐⭐1/2
After his best friend, Hayden, commits, suicide, fifteen-year-old Sam is determined to find out why--using the clues in the playlist Hayden left for him.
17. Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Today is Leonard Peacock's birthday. This birthday, he has decided, will be different. Alone, as ever, in his house, he wraps five presents: four are for the people who matter most to him, and one is for himself - a gun. He plans to kill his former best friend, and then himself, but first he will say goodbye four times, in his own unique and special way.
18. 96 Miles by J. L. Esplin. ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
The Lockwood brothers are supposed to be able to survive anything. Their dad, a hardcore believer in self-reliance, has stockpiled enough food and water at their isolated Nevada home to last for months. But when they are robbed at gunpoint during a massive blackout while their dad is out of town, John and Stew must walk many miles in the stark desert sun to get help, and they have only three days before their time runs out.

After making her screen debut in 1989, Sandra Oh has enjoyed a remarkable career in both film and television. Although the versatile talent and 12-time Emmy nominated actress is best known for her iconic roles as Cristina Yang on Grey’s Anatomy and Eve Polastri on Killing Eve, Oh has also worked with some of the finest movie directors, including Alexander Payne, Steven Soderbergh, Mina Shum, John Cameron Mitchell, and more.
RELATED: Killing Eve – 10 Best Quotes From The Show
As fans continue to enjoy Oh’s new hit Netflix sitcom The Chair, it’s worth recollecting her best movie moments for those who want to see more of the talented actress on the big screen.
10 Defendor (2009): 6.8
Peter Stebbings’ dark offbeat superhero comedy Defendor stars Oh as Dr. Ellen Park, a psychiatrist who gives hilarious facial and verbal reactions to the outlandish story relayed to her by Arthur Poppington (Woody Harrelson), an ordinary man moonlighting as a vigilante crime fighter.
Cut from the same genre-bucking, irreverent cloth as James Gunn’s Super, once Arthur confesses his secret life to Dr. Park, she convinces the judge to go easy on him and allow him to continue his heroic activity. When tragedy strikes, Oh shows how much heartfelt pathos she can portray by attending a touching ceremony for her patient.
9 Under The Tuscan Sun (2003): 6.8
Written and directed by the late Audrey Wells, Under the Tuscan Sun is a delightfully uplifting rom-com about Frances (Diane Lane), a writer who ups and leaves her life in San Francisco to live in Tuscany after discovering her husband’s infidelity. Oh plays Patti, Frances’ best friend who encourages her to travel to Italy.
RELATED: Sandra Oh – 10 Best Roles, Ranked (According To Rotten Tomatoes)
In addition to the gorgeous locations, breezy tone, and rich cinematography, Oh adds complexity to the story as Patti, a lesbian expecting a child even after her lover Grace (Kate Walsh) has left her. It’s Patti’s visit to Tuscany when she’s nine months pregnant that helps Frances find the courage to pursue true love despite the painful past.
8 Double Happiness (1994): 7.0
Oh made her feature film debut in Mina Shum’s must-see coming-of-age tale Double Happiness, in which she plays the lead role of Chinese-Canadian Jade Li. The intensely personal semiautobiographical drama shows how divided Jade is between her traditional Chinese upbringing and her modern Canadian lifestyle.
With a natural performance by Oh matched with the authentic, well-observed writing of Shum, the movie is a universally relatable tale of a person grappling with their own identity while trying to appease the expectations of loved ones. In her first film performance, Oh won the Genie Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, proving what a titanic talent she has been from the start.
7 Rabbit Hole (2010): 7.0
John Cameron Mitchell’s Rabbit Hole is a bruising account of a family dealing with the death of a young child at the hands of a teenage driver. Nicole Kidman gives a memorable and towering performance as Becca, a mournful mother who begins to find solace by interacting with Jason (Miles Teller), the driver who accidentally took her son’s life.
Although she has a smaller supporting role, Oh plays Gabby, a fellow grieving parent who helps Howie (Aaron Eckhart) deal with his loss at the group therapy sessions he and Becca attend. With profound empathy for Howie, she becomes instrumental in his healing process.
6 Meditation Park (2017): 7.1
Twenty-three years after working with Mina Shum for the first time, Oh reunited with the filmmaker for the sweet-natured drama Meditation Park in 2017. The story concerns Maria Wang (Pei-Pei Cheng), an aging woman in the throes of an existential crisis upon suspecting her husband’s infidelity. Oh plays Maria’s daughter Ava, a mother of two who encourages Maria to reconcile with her estranged brother ahead of his wedding and break free from her husband’s hold.
RELATED: Asian-American Movies to Watch If You Loved Crazy Rich Asians
As another trenchant glimpse at the immigrant experience and a statement about the importance of women finding their own voice, Shum’s film is tender, touching, and triumphant.
5 Hard Candy (2005): 7.1
David Slade’s Hard Candy is a deeply unnerving glimpse at a predatory pedophile (Patrick Wilson) getting his just deserts when a teenager (Elliot Page) tricks, traps, and tortures him in his apartment. Oh plays the man’s neighbor, Judy Tokuda, admitting she only took the role due to her working relationship with Page, a fellow Canadian she worked with on Wilby Wonderful the year prior.
With most of the action set inside the inescapable apartment, the visceral terror of the violence that Hayley (Page) exacts on Jeff (Wilson) is met by the suffocating sense of claustrophobia, making for a really upsetting experience. However, the hugely satisfying conclusion helps atone for the squeamish and uncomfortable moments of carnage.
4 Last Night (1998): 7.2
The most unheralded of Oh’s top films happens to be Last Night, a mordant pitch-black comedy about the impending apocalypse and the rag-tag band of Canadians with differing views on how to react. With the end of the world set to strike at midnight, Sandra (Oh) tries to make it out of her stranded position in Toronto and reunite with her husband, Duncan (David Cronenberg). One bad thing after another ensues.
Weird, wild, and ultimately winning, Last Night boasts writer/director Don McKellar’s signature brand of dark humor and anarchic energy. As such, the film has become an unforgettable cult classic among those who’ve seen it.
3 Raya And The Last Dragon (2021): 7.4
With great respect and honor for the rich historical traditions of Southeast Asia, Raya and the Last Dragon is one of Disney’s most beloved recent animated movies. Sandra Oh lends her voice to the commanding role of Virana, the Fang chieftess and mother of Raya’s main rival, Namaari (Gemma Chan).
RELATED: Raya And The Last Dragon – What The Voice Actors Look Like In Real Life
With a moving story, spellbinding animation, and characters never before seen, Raya and the Last Dragon continue to soar in the hearts and minds of viewers.
2 Sideways (2004): 7.5
Directed by her then-husband Alexander Payne, Oh demonstrated her hilarious comedic chops in the indie darling Sideways, a character study of a failing writer at an existential crossroads. The boozy road trip follows Miles (Paul Giamatti), an uptight novelist, and his lecherous pal Jack (Thomas Hayden Church), as they hit Santa Barbara wine country on a tasting tour.
Praised for its excellent performances and light tonal touch between comedy and drama, Oh gives a standout turn as Stephanie, a cool sommelier who has a steamy love affair with Jack (whom she does not know has a fiancee). When she finds out, she goes absolutely ballistic in one of the movie’s funniest moments. The story is so sharply penned that it won an Oscar for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay.
1 The Red Violin (1998): 7.6
Despite playing a bit role as Madame Ming in the fifth and final chapter of The Red Violin, the ambitious epic ranks among Sandra Oh’s most well-received movie to date. The film traces a famed 17th-century Violin from its creation in Italy to its auction in modern-day Montreal, and all that the instrument endured in creating some of the most beautiful music the world has ever heard.
Praised for its sumptuous set decorations and costume designs, Oscar-winning original music, intelligent story, and a throwback style of filmmaking that calls to mind the grand epics of the past, the resonance of The Red Violin is still felt today.

Hi! Yes I love headcanon of being ada’s best friend & falling for tommy. Could I please request another part of being her best friend & tommy asks you out
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I hope you like this part- I enjoyed writing it. Let me know if you want any more parts (I’ve got a new Tommy x reader story coming out soon too.)
Also A/N- Campbell and Grace just don’t exist in this AU, because they’re a pain in the ass and all I want is for the Shelby’s to be happy and to conduct their illegal business in peace :)
On Sunday nights you stayed late at Watery lane to put the children to bed.
All of the older children got into bed and went to sleep with no issues.
But the youngest of John’s kids, Rosie, was teething.
And if you haven’t had or worked with kids TEETHING IS A NIGHTMARE
So you found yourself with a swaddled toddler sat in the living room, trying desperately to soothe the poor child
Just as Rosie had started to drift off to sleep. John, Arthur and Tommy had come banging through the front door.
The boys just came in and you had to fight the urge to smack all of them on the back of their heads.
But your glare shut them all up immediately
Tommy was once again m e s m e r i s e d at the sight of you comforting his niece
You told John to go and check on his children and Arthur excused himself to go to bed.
It was just you and Tommy.
He sat next to you and was in the process of lighting up a cigarette
But you plucked it out of his fingers and threw it across the room
“If you think you’re going to smoke around a 2 year old- then you’re obviously out of your mind Tommy.”
“You care a lot about John’s children and Finn for that matter- why?”
“They’re like the siblings I never had, I care about them.”
Tommy had heart eyes
You weren’t aware of how close you were and that you were slowly leaning closer
I’m a slut for fluff like this.
And just as you were about to kiss- Ada came through the door in tears.
You immediately passed Rosie over to a clueless Tommy
And ran over to your bestfriend and gave her a hug.
“Ada what’s that matter?”
“Y/N I’m pregnant.”
“WHAT.”
“Can I stay at yours tonight. Pol is pissed.”
You’d never seen Ada this emotional before.
So you did what any best friend would do.
You helped her have a warm bath, got her changed and got her into your bed- where you then stroked her hair and comforted her.
“Ada I need you to know- you’ve got me okay? You’re like my sister, as far as I’m concerned that my niece or nephew that your carrying.”
Cue tears
“You mean it.”
“Of course.”
You both lay in bed talking like you used to when the boys were in France.
The next morning you took all of the children to school, on your way back with Rosie and Wilfred (the youngest siblings) you quite literally ran into Tommy.
“Meet me tonight, my room”
Probably sounds lowkey kinky
Later that evening, after putting the kids to bed, you decided to save Polly a job and do the washing up from dinner.
You didn’t hear Tommy come into the kitchen.
He just wrapped his arms around your waist and softly kissed at your exposed neck.
You leaned back into him, smiling softly.
“When are you going to see that I’m in love with you.”
“You Shelby’s move fast- maybe take me on a date or kiss me before you declare your undying love for me.”
“That can be arranged.”
He just lifted you up onto the counter and was about to kiss you when- SLAP
Tommy Shelby has a handful of bubbles slapped onto his cheek and jawline.
You were just there giggling like a child
That was until he threw some bubbles at your face.
Then commenced the bubble war of 1919
There was water all over the floor- bubbles all over the counter.
And you were both soaked and soapy.
It looked like a retelling of Noah’s ark or something
“You’re in so much trouble Y/N Y/L/N.”
“Oh yeah what are you going to do, Mr Shelby?”
F u c k
He just leant in and kissed you.
F I N A L L Y
You both eventually made your way up the stairs to his bedroom.
And it was the best night of your life
Frickity Frackity Tommy is a snackity
You woke up in the morning to an empty bed- but a note on the bedside table.
‘Go with Ada into town and pick out a dress- it’s time we went on a date. All my love - T x’
Ada was e x c i t e d.
So were you let’s face it
At 7pm Tommy picked you up from your apartment, looking handsome as ever.
When you opened the door he was in a state of shock.
“Wow.”
For the date you went to a fancy resteraunt- but you both kept getting dirty looks from the other diners. So you both left halfway through.
Instead Tommy took you to the stables at Charlie’s yard.
Tommy once again looked so in love as he watched you interact with the horses.
You were so perfect in his eyes.
So there was literally no issue when you leant up and kissed him square on the mouth and the pair of you fell back onto a pile of hay.
“Y/N/N why’ve you got hay in your hair.”
Que mortified looks with Tommy
“Oh um I was helping your brother look after the horses. Right Tommy?”
“Aye, she’s very good- with the horses.”
You became official after that night, and Tommy was so happy to call you his.
Like he just spoilt you with gifts
And eventually you’d have to tell him to S t o p
The first time he told you that he loved you was after you’d both had sex
You were just laying together, he thought you’d fallen asleep.
And he just looked at you with so much love and adoration.
“I’m so in love with you Y/N Y/L/N- you have no idea how much.”
And you just sort of mumbled back
“I love you more Thomas Shelby.”
He was in shock for the first 5 minutes but he slowly sank into the mattress and pulled you closer to his body.
He was so in love and was so damn lucky- and he was determined not to fuck it up.

Could you do an a-z of dating Tom Blake pls??
ty for the request, i hope this is ok x :)
a-z of dating tom blake
obviously, we’re going to pretend THAT scene doesn’t happen and he just ends up with a tiny surgery nd some stitches :)
warnings: slight sexual references but only like twice lol
a - argue
tom is STUBBORN. that boy will be so wrong yet will be adamant he is correct till physically proven otherwise. this was usually the start of arguments. you too are stubborn, but not to the extent of tom. any argument results in tom going for a walk around the town, to let out all of his pent up anger as he couldn’t bare to shout at you for something so petty. you’d sit in the living room silently, waiting for him to return, which gave you time to think about what to say. once he did come back, he’d sit on the sofa next to you, and take your hands in his, and you’d talk through the problem rationally. since the war, he would get angrier much quicker, the smallest things being able to send him over the edge, so he’d take the time to apologise, as would you, and he’d show you how much he loves you ;)
b - body (his favourite body part of yours)
thomas blake is an ass man. any time he can have his hands on your lower back, resting on your arse - he would. he loves to walk behind you, just to show his appreciation for your curves and whenever he’d stand next to you, his hand would be on your arse squeezing it playfully when nobody is looking.
c - care (caring for each other when you’re sick)
tom likes to pretend he is tough and no illness can beat him, and because of this, he will work himself to the bone instead of resting. he’d wake up in the morning, his voice deeper than ever as a cough tickled his throat. as much as he tries to hide it, the moment you notice, he’s back in bed with a cup of tea on the bedside table. when you’re ill, however, tom takes the day off work and just lays in bed with you day, not caring if he got ill as well - as long as you were content.
d - dates (what do you guys do?)
you and tom would have really basic dates, enjoying each other more than an expensive meal. often, in the summer months, you’d walk down to the river and have a picnic, or sometimes you’d lay down in his mother’s orchid, watching the petals fall around you. it doesn’t matter what you do, as long as you’re together.
e - engagements (how he proposed)
it would be just dropped into a conversation, nothing fancy and very unprepared in true thomas fashion. like you could just be laying in bed, or cooking dinner and he’d look at you and go “hey, should we get married” and very casually you’d just reply “yeah sure” before realising he was serious and falling into his arms to give him the biggest hug you could. it just so happened he had his grandmother’s ring in his possession so he just used that.
f - friends and family (do they like you/him?)
his family ADORE you. his brother likes you, as you were raised intelligent and could have a good conversation with him - you were also a prime babysitter for him and his wife. his mum loves to finally have a girl tom’s age around, as she had spent 30 years being in an all-male household other than herself. your dad was wary around him towards the start of your relationship, but he soon welcomed him into the family after tom had helped him fix a bookcase. your mum was glad to finally see you happy, glad you’d managed to be comfortably settled down from a young age. since you lived a while away from each other's families, your friends from home never really knew your partner.
g - gifts
you guys are not terribly poor but you’re also not the richest, so surprise presents were fairly rare. whenever tom went home to visit his family, he’d return with a cake baked specially from his mother. sometimes he’d return from work, hiding something behind his back, a shit-eating grin plastered across his face and after asking him what he was hiding, he’d produce flowers that he got on the cheap from the market on his way home.
h - how you met
you worked as a nurse in the war, so when tom was carried in, blood pouring from his abdomen, it was your job to take care of him. something in you nagged at you to accompany him the furthest you could, which is how you ended up in a base hospital tending to this soldier. over the months he was in your care, you got to know each other well, and promised to keep in contact when you returned home.
i - intimacy (how often are yall getting down)
thomas blake has the stamina of a KING. he is ready to go to town every night and every morning for as long as you can manage - and the look he gave you before was enough to give in almost every night.
j - jealousy
tom gets jealous of the relationship between you and his brother. he felt as if he had also been in his shadow, the younger, less handsome brother. it was obvious when he got like this because he’d go quiet, unlike his usual joking self. you didn’t tend to get overly jealous, as you could tell tom was whipped for you and barely batted an eye at anyone else.
k - kinks
tom has a lowkey breeding kink i reckon, not like 40 kids kinda kink, but he loves the idea of getting you pregnant and seeing you carry his children and raise them. having grown up in a loving family, he wants nothing more than to have one for himself.
l - long distance
whilst you were both away at war, you tended to be in various areas of france. the only contact you had was letters, where he’d tell you about his day or some funny story he witnessed or overheard. you told him of the wounds you saw, as it was the only way you could really pass them through your mind so they didn’t haunt you forever. it was the best part of the week, receiving letters from tom and he felt the exact same when the post came by and a letter with his name in your handwriting was handed to him.
m - moving in
you moved in together at the end of the war, in your correspondence, when the days got long and boring, the only thing you could talk about was the future - where you’d live, how the living room would be arranged. it was more optimistic that truthful but when the war ended and you met again, you both knew it was something you had to do. tom was so glad he could live with someone who had witnessed the same pain and distraught he had and you were so glad that you both had each other in the hard nights.
n - nights out
you’re not much of a party go-er yourself, much rather preferring to listen to the music on the record player. sometimes, you and tom would go out dancing with scho and his wife but it was fairly rare.
o - open with each other
the mutual experiences of the war allowed you two to be so open with each other. if there was anything on your mind, something you couldn’t get off your chest, you knew that you could tell tom and even if he couldn’t get rid of it, he’d make it so much better. tom often had nightmares of the day he got injured and every time he woke up in fits of sweats, you would be there to listen to him and tell him how everything was going to be better.
p - pda
you two aren’t over the top in public but often are reminded with a sly cough from will that you were in fact, in full view of everyone. tom can’t keep his hands of you most of the time, grabbing your arse at any possible chance he got. you prefer to be more cute with your affection, taking his hand when walking down the street or pecking his cheek randomly.
q - questions (what you talk about late at night?)
as mentioned before, you guys normally talk about the war. it makes it so much easier to cope with the horrors that loom over you like a shadow. sharing the experience allowed you both to cope with your own thoughts a lot better.
r - reproduction (do you want kids?)
Y E S. tom wants a house full of miniature versions of him, and it is something he discusses with you often. you want whatever tom wants pretty much, and having a product of the love you shared was a dream of yours.
s - surprising (what surprised you about him)
he’s very affectionate when he’s sad. rather than bottling up, tom knows how to talk about his problems really openly with you and he’s not afraid to show emotion.
t - together (what you do together)
towards the start of your relationship, after the war, you two would go on cute dates in the forest or on the river bank almost weekly, but you now you guys prefer to stay home and make use of that bedroom ;)
u - under the influence (drunk vibes)
tom is even funnier when he’s drunk. he comes home from a night out with will and some other friends and just sits, staring at you. every 5 minutes or so he’d mumble something along the lines of “you’re gorgeous - do you have a boyfriend?”. it was cute to start with but by t eh fifth time, you're laying him down on the bed and trying to lul him to sleep.
v - vacations
tom likes to go to cornwall with you. it’s where he frequently went on holidays as a child, and he loves to take you to the places he visited in his youth.
w - wedding
you guys have a small wedding, just in the church near your house. you couldn’t afford a massive wedding and you didn’t really want one. so you held the ceremony with your families and your closest friends and chose to spend the reception at your house, listening to music on the record player and having a roast dinner.
x - xray (when he’s hurt)
obviously, you had cared from him in the war, but sometimes the scar on his stomach would cause him pain if he moved it in the wrong way. there wasn’t much you could do, but you would lay with him and comfort him, or bring him medicine with his food.
y - you (a random headcanon)
“tom have you seen my glasses anywhere?” you called out to the house, hoping and an extra set of eyes could help.
“no, sorry! where did you last see them?” he called back.
“i can’t remember. they were here one moment then the next they weren’t” you trailed off as tom made his way into the kitchen. he took one glance at you, then burst into laughter, leaving you standing there in confusion.
“what? what are you laughing at?”
“baby, have you checked the top of your head?”
“oh my god!” you said, realising they had been there the whole time, your face going a new shade of red in embarrassment.
“awh bless, you really do need glasses,” tom smiled coming over to you, taking you in his arms. his lips pressed to your head in a quick peck before he walked back to where he had been sat before.
z - zzzzzzzzzzzz’s (sleeping routine)
you’re usually in bed first, choosing to read a book before packing in for the night. tom would stay downstairs longer, reading the paper or going for a shower. but when he did come upstairs, he’d just stand in the door frame and gaze upon you, like he had never seen something so angelic. once he got into bed, you’d mark the page and close the book, leaning into his side and his arm moving to wrap around you.

Mystery Man Mark 2
We are deep in the research sauce, my friends. come scoop me out, I’m about to Battersby another mystery man of the franklin expedition: Second Lieutenant George Henry Hodgson.
Let’s lay the groundrules: G H Hodgson joined the Navy as a midshipman in June 1832, he passed his examination in October 1838, and was promoted to Lieutenant 23rd December 1842. Joining as a middie made me figure he was approximately 15 at the time of enlisting, putting his date of birth in 1817 (I was right, more on that LATER)
While researching for [REDACTED] purposes, I came across a tiny piece of information that knocked me backwards - at some point AFTER the start of the school year 1829 but BEFORE the start of the school year 1832, a lad called George Henry Hodgson was enrolled at Eton College. Boys generally start at Eton at the age of 13, so assuming THIS G H Hodgson started for the school year 1830, he *too* was probably born in 1817.
This ATE AT ME. I wish I could have been a normal person about this, but I’ve never been a normal person about anything, ever. I became CONSUMED with bloodlust. I had to know if these George Henries were the same George Henry. From the outside it looks good - we’d never seen both of them in the same room together - going to sea in June 1832 would be a reasonable excuse for why he wasn’t back at school for september 1832. But assumptions make an ass out of ump and tions, so we must go DEEPER.
Now, with the Free Tools available to me I found a fair number of George Hodgsons born in or around 1817 - I made a document of them, and promptly lost it! OOPS. Most of these George Hodgsons were born in Yorkshire, and on closer investigation, all appeared Alive And Well And Living in paris In Yorkshire in the 1861 census. I fell into a black depression. Lost faith in the existence of ANY George Hodgsons. Tried my best to put it out of my mind -
BUT NOT FOR LONG!
Free weekend on a genealogy site? Don’t mind if I DO. I’m back in, and never paying a penny. The hunt for George Henry Hodgson is BACK ON, and this time I FIND HIM -
In the Death Duty Index for 1854, George Henry Hodgson is registered dead by Reverend Beilby Porteus Hodgson of Hillingdon. 1854 was when the Franklin Expedition was offically lost - we can find all of our friends here:
John Irving is registed by Rev. L K Irving:
Edward Little by Simon R Little,
and I BELIEVE this is Captain’s Steward Thomas Jopson, registered by Mary Pratt
(wasn’t his registered relative his father, William? YES! Guess who ELSE was registered dead by Mary Pratt in the same year!! RIP JOPSON FAMILY)
okay, that’s only a few of them, but they’re on the same document, and I honestly need to sleep, you get the point. And I’VE got a new lead - the Rev. Beilby Porteus Hodgson, contenter for Stupid Name Award 1854 and VERY EASY TO FIND by virtue of having such a STUPID NAME.
So, in 1807, the Rev Robert Hodgson & his wife Mary baptise a baby boy they name Beilby Porteus - that’s right, they named their kid Robert Hodgson’s Uncle Beilby’s entire name, and check it out: we’re getting to Wikipedia Famous territory!
We hunt, we search, we uncover the family Hodgson:
Robert Hodgson marries Mary Tucker in 1804
They have a daughter, Henrietta Mildred in 1805 (I’ve lost my screenshot of her baptism but thankfully she’s got a wikipedia page)
Mary in 1806
Beilby Porteus in 1807
Frances, 1809 - 1816
In a 2-4-1 baptism:
Robert Francis, 1810
Edward Tucker 1812 - 1832
and FINALLY, on 25th January 1817: George Henry.
So… is this the Eton George Henry Hodgson? You know what, I’m saying YES, and here is for why:
1. Robert Hodgson is the Dean of Carlisle (cha CHING!)
2. The family live at 15 grosvenor st, St. George Hanover Square, mayfair: You don’t need to know much about London, but if you’ve ever played the Accursed Game Monopoly, you might recognise that Dark Blue Square of Evil, Mayfair. This is FANCY TERRITORY.
3. George Henry is CONSIDERABLY younger than his siblings: his oldest sister had a child by 1825, when George was just eight.
4. Edward Tucker Hodgson was ALSO at Eton, in the Fifth Form in 1826.
THUS: His father is very busy and important and also. WEALTHY. What better place to spend £300/year to dump your 13 year old son? Don’t answer that. I found out when Edward Tucker died in 1832, and then LOST IT. Was it important in the grand scheme of things? I don’t know. I miss him. George Henry Hodgson went to sea in 1832, and he never came back (except for a few brief periods)
What did we get out of this? NOT VERY MUCH. There is more to INVESTIGATE but I don’t have the money or energy to go to the Archives at Kew to get weird there.
Of course the reason I started going deep into this hole is due to AMC’s The Terror (2018) which means at some point I’m going to make a post about what I Think This Means in relation to the character from the tv show…. but for the time being, just have a tiny portion of my madness, and I hope it’s interesting to you. HAH.
ETA: FUCK, I forgot my favourite thing about this. Henrietta Mildred Hodgson married into the nobility, and is the Great Great grandmother of the Queen of England, thus making George Henry Hodgson her Great Great Great Uncle. Nice

On May 21st 1424 "James the First, with his Queine, Jeane, wer solemly crouned at Scone."
I've been through all this many times, here's a quick run through.
James was sent away for his own safety, aged 11, was captured by pirates and sold to the English, who although we weren't officially at war with, decided to keep him for a wee while, 18 years in total. He wasn't a prisoner in the real sense of the word as he got all the royal trappings, an education, trips to France, he wrote poetry and fell in love.
The main reason it took so long to get him back was his old man, Robert III died and his wicked Uncle, Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany took charge of Scotland and was King in all but name. Albany however did pay for the return of his own son, Murdoch around 1414, who spent some time with the young King of Scots in England, you'd have thought they might have bonded but no, more of this to come.
Albany popped his clogs in 1420 and Murdoch was now Governor of Scotland, and in 1424 a ransom for King James was agreed. I will now give you another part of the story taken from a more contemporary source and in the Scots tongue of the day.
The 26 of this same mounthe, K. James the 1. called a parliament of his estaits at Perth; and one the 9 day of the said parliament, he caussed arrest Murdack, Duck of Albaney, Earle of Fyffe and Menteith, with his 2d sone, Sr Alexander Steuarte, quhom he had knighted the day of his coronatione at Scone, and with them 26 others, viz.
Archbald, Earle of Douglas, Will: Douglas, Earle of Angus, George Dumbar, Earle of Marche, Sr Adam Hepburne of Hailles, Sr Thomas Hay of Zester, Valter Halyburtone, Valter Ogluey, Dauid Steuarte of Rassythe, Alex: Settone of Gordon, Will: Erskyne of Kinoule, Alex: Earle of Craufurd, Patrick Ogiluey of Ochterhousse, Jhone Steuarte of Dundonald, Dauid Murray of Gaske, Jo: Steuarte of Cardine, William, Lord Hay, Grate Constable, Jo: Scrymgeour of Didope, Alex: Irwin of Drum, Herbert Maxwoll of Carlauerock, Herbert Harries of Terregils, Androw Gray of Fouills, Robert Cuninghame of Kilmuers, Will: Crighton of the same, Alex: Ramsay of Dalhousey. This same day he arrest, lykwayes, Sr Johne Montgomerey of the same, and Allane Otterburne, secretarey to the Duck of Albaney; and they too wer releassed within three dayes. This same zeire, James Steuarte, the Duck of Albaneys youngest sone, quho had escaped the Kings hands wnpprehendit, raisses such forces as he could, burns the toune of Dunbritton, kills Johne Steuarte, (called the Read) of Dundonald, and 32 more, and then, with his fathers old secretarey, Finlaw, Bis: of Argyle, fleis to Irland. 1425.This zeire, 1425, the Lordes of Montgomery and Kilauers, with Sr Humfrey Cuninghame, are sent by the King with ane armey to beseidge the castell of Kilmauerrin, now Loche Lomond, keipt aganist authority by the partey of James Steuarte, the youngest sone of Murdack, Duck of Albaney. This same zeir, in the mounthe of Junij, the Ladey Margarete Kinges eldest daughter, was borne. 1426.The 18 day of Maij, this zeire, 1426, the King adiorned his parliament to Streueling from Perth, till the 24 day of the said mounthe; befor quhom wes accussid Walter Steuart, eldest sone to Murdack, Duck of Albaney, quho receuid sentence of death, and lost his head this same day, befor the castell one a litell rocke; and one the morrow, lykwayes, Murdack, Duck of Albane, with his 2d sone, Alexander Steuarte, and hes father in law, Duncane, Earle of Lennox, being accusid, wer all 4 forfaulted, and condemned to losse ther heades, by an assise of ther peirs. The assierrs wer:- Walter, Earle of Athole, Archbald, 3d of that name, E. of Douglas, Alex: Earle of Ross, Lord of the Iles, Alex: Steuarte, Earle of Mar, Will: Douglas, Earle of Angus, Will: St. Clair, Earle of Orknay, George Dumbar, Earle of Marche, James Douglas, Lord Balueney, Gilbert Hay, Lord of Erole, Grate Constable, Robert Steuarte, Lord Lorne, Sr Jo: Montgomerey of the same, Sr Thomas Somerwaill of the same, Sr Herbert Harries of Terregills, James Douglas, L. Dalkeith, Robert Cuninghame, L. Kilmauers, Sr Alex: Leuingston of Calender, Sr Thomas Hay of Locharret, Sr Will: Borthwick of the same, Sr Patrick Ogiluey, Shriffe of Angus, Sr Jo: Forrester of Corstorphin, Sr Walter Ogiluey of Lintrathen. By thir assisers they wer forfaulted, and sentenced to losse ther heads; wiche was put to executione one a litle rocke be east Streuelin castle, this same monithe. After wich forfaultrey, the King seassed ther haill estaits in his hands, and caussed, in this same parliament, annex the earledome of Fyffe to the croune.
Basically James was getting his revenge on all those he thought were complicate with his long absence from Scotland, and if you look through these names there are some pretty heavyweight families amongst them. I will post a link if you wish to go through what happened over the next 11 years, but at the end of the day he was making too many enemies, it didn't help that during his "holidays" in France while a guest of the English King, he fought against Scots during what became known as the 100 year war.
In 1437 it all came to a head, James I was assassinated in a failed coup by his uncle Walter Stewart, Earl of Atholl, at Perth, who needs enemies when you have a family like the Stewart's eh!
The pic is James and his bride.
As promised you can read the rest in Scots, from the excellent web pages of my Twitter friend Jenny Random Scottish History, a gold mine of information for folk like me! https://randomscottishhistory.com/2018/06/06/james-the-first-1424-1437-king-of-scotland-pp-153-166/
