LATER IN AUGUST (not showing on my NYC Spectrum schedule yet, so probably late August) ...
Local PBS stations will broadcast "The Four Phantoms in Concert" (Franc D'Ambrosio, John Cudia, Ciaran Sheehan, Brent Barrett)
Kaley Voorhees is their special guest.
It was taped in March 2024.
I saw their show years ago (with Davis Gaines instead of John Cudia), and it was terrific. Kaley, in a sadly limited role, added an excellent touch to the performance.
Keep checking your local PBS schedule.

THE PHANTOM'S CLOAK
Alrighty tumblrs of the opera, this is a huge cosplay post.
I have researched, looked at every phantom video, and looked at every photo, I have too many screenshots to get a scrap to get this cloak to how it should look.
And finally, here it is, my recreation of the Phantom's cloak.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I comissoned the cloak itself from Wenda Lynne Designs on etsy (and who is on instagram)
She did a fantastic job on getting everything perfect.
And now! It's time to compare.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From the front floral appliques to the back designer motifs, I'm proud of the work so far. My best guesstimate is that these appliques were put together for the Phantom from the 90s to its final days in 2023. Each of these appliques has been seen on various displays and stages.
Various notable phantoms have worn this design such as:
Laird Mackintosh, Ben Crawford, Davis Gaines, Franc D'Ambrosio, Jeremy Stolle, and Hugh Panaro (many more too)
I haven't done anything to the collar, as I'm not sure what design to try and recreate. The early 90s design consists of a triple circle motif. The now touring and broadway production had various shapes, so we'll try that path later!
Tumblr media
Here's the collar that was based on. From the ShowStoppers! Display.
Now, is it completely 1:1. Obviously not. Is it close? I think so!
Phantom's appliques are hard to find. Considering how old the show is, many of the appliques are probably in many people's attics or their great-aunt's dresses.
So this is my best attempt! But hey, the design is always different, varying production, some use more appliques, some use different!
So, let's just say that there is a basis on the cloak, and this is my version!
I would say this is my peak of my cosplay career, I mean, most of the appliques are probably not findable on the internet anymore, but I think this tops it off!

thoughts on march 1, 2023 evening phantom performance
the opening line of my notes on this is literally "julia was amazing, ben was on point! paul was there."
i'm so sorry i just don't like his raoul, he seems really bored during think of me and annoyed during the rooftop scene- two points where he just fell really flat for me. him and julia don't have a ton of chemistry either so it's kinda a perfect storm if you're a phantom/christine fan
i could NOT stop watching ted keegan during hannibal, his reactions were entertaining and he actually encourages elizabeth welch's princess to volunteer for carlotta's role after she leaves. it was just really fun to try and look out for the various characterizations from the ensemble
there was a point in angel of music where the white robe thing got caught on julia's hannibal skirt so it didn't fan out to make the white dress she wears for the first lair. it was still caught when she got up from her seat, but then at the end when polly baird and her held hands, polly very subtly pulled the robe for her and it fell halfway, then fell fully into place a few seconds later. this really does not matter but i find little variations like this really interesting so i'm writing this for the one person out there who likes that stuff too :)
some laughter during the STYDI crawl. i've said it before and i'll say it again, i will live and die by this moment. i can't describe to you the intense joy i got when i first saw jeremy stolle do the crawl live in december- it was so creepy and pathetic, i immediately became obsessed. so yes, even though ben's crawl looks a bit funny comparatively, i will still defend it till my dying breath
kanisha was funny to watch during sitzprobe, her mouth fell open in shock when carlotta was insulting the don juan score. her ensemble character is overall very feisty and i love it
let's talk about ben's PONR. this man was SUFFERING. like hyperventilating, panting, shoulders rising and falling with his chest with such intensity while julia sang her verse and he was on the bench. his fingers were moving so much, he had his palms facing up the entire time so he didn't grip his knees/the robe (thinking about franc d'ambrosio.......) which is really a shame BUT he's still so good. when julia went to feel his mask up at the end of the number (fuck you new PONR blocking), he kind of threw up his hands from his lap in a "you've gotta be kidding me" gesture or like "really? now?" and it was hilarious. he did something similar and threw his hands up a bit when she unhooded him too. these two moves weren't something he did the second night i saw him, so it was an interesting choice i guess? idk the best way i can describe his PONR is just "feral"
not as devastating a final lair as the next night with ben and emilie, but this final lair was pretty good too. when julia said the "please raoul it's useless" line, she had an emphasis on "useless" and said it like an insult, while looking at ben with a kind of frustration. ben's second "i love you" seemed really hard for him to get out which killed me, and he sobbed into the veil too (just less audibly than the 3/2 show). i could probably jog my memory with more notes about this part but i genuinely can't find the emotional strength to put myself through it again

Could you make a gif set of the most smiley phantoms? The happiest/smirkiest ones? (And yes this was inspired by the two smiling Ted Keegan gifs you have graciously bestowed upon us)
I don't know that I'd consider Eiji Akutagawa one of the happiest, but he does have one of my favorite smiles:
Tumblr media
Franch D'Ambrosio is of the "smug and self-assured" camp in act 1:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then a bit more unhinged in act 2:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peter Karrie is just always unhinged:

The aforementioned Ted Keegan:

And of course, Hugh Panaro.

UPDATE: FOUR PHANTOMS IN CONCERT PBS NYC-13 12:30AM Sat 10/5
Singers Brent Barrett, John Cudia, Franc D’Ambrosio and Ciarán Sheehan, who cumulatively have performed the iconic Phantom role more than 6,000 times, celebrate the music of Broadway and more. The concert includes a stunning finale paying tribute to The Phantom of the Opera. Kaley Ann Voorhees, who played the role of Christine in the Broadway production, is a special guest star.
***********************************************************************
As far as I know, until now, it was only available on PBS Passport (a streaming service which is by $ub$cription only)
Thanks to a Facebook post by ex-Christine Marie Danvers, I found out that it is now being broadcast on "free TV".
So if you receive Channel 13's signal in the NYC area and want to watch/DVR it, it's on shortly after midnight!
Elsewhere, check your local PBS channel, but don't waste your time going to the PBS website - it is still for Pa$$port $ub$cribers only!

Well, I don’t know who “socks” is but thank you <3
Are there any actors who play the Phantom similarly to Franc D'Ambrosio? Blessings and Dunkelheit, socks
Well "socks", this is actually rather difficult to answer since Franc D'Ambrosio is pretty unique.
One actor that I kept thinking of, interestingly enough, was Hugh Panaro. I think there's some similarities in their voice and inflections - both have that tenor sound and a unique way of phrasing certain lines - and I think they both take a very detailed (and occasionally quite horny) approach to the character, even if their actual interpretations differ greatly.
Also, Davis Gaines comes to mind sometimes. This might be due to proximity - they were both really well-known Phantoms in the 90s and were even in the same productions - and Gaines obviously has a completely different voice, very dark and rich. But I think they're similar in having an old-school approach to the blocking, reminiscent of Crawford but with their own twist on it; similar lanky appearances; and also a tendency to make audience members melt in their seats during 'Point of No Return'.
So there you have it "@meilas".

MOTN Special
Franc D'Ambrosio & Lisa Vroman
💎 Details you might have missed 💎
A few new gifs today! There's still more to come, but I'd like to post them in chronological order. This update is, once again, dedicated to my lovely friend @meilas ❤🌹⚘🥀🌷❤
.
Tumblr media
The first shot is, accidentally or not, beautifully made. Their arms align in an almost spider-like manner, before he spreads himself on the portcullis. There's a feeling of harmony, parity and balance. The contrast between their garments make thiseven more pleasing to the eye.
Tumblr media
Y'all ready for the portcullis? Cause I wasn't. His phants™️ catch the light in a most flattering and enticing way, and I don't think that I have to say much else. I too would have run into Franc's exposed figure
Tumblr media
THEY ALMOST KISS AND HIS GRIN!!!! HIS WICKED GRIN!!! Bonus: Lisa's lovely legs peek through her costume. This is peak bissexual culture.
Tumblr media
I have no excuse for this gif. Phants™️. Hands too
Tumblr media
I made this gif slower just to show you guys their expressions; Franc takes a whole lotta air in when Lisa rests against him, like he is relieved, delighted and thrilled. Take a look on Lisa's face, too: Pure bliss and trust. Perhaps a little horny too.
Pay attention on how their breathing match!!! Their shoulders go up and down at the same time. I'm shaking-
Tumblr media
Again, no excuse for this gif. I love the way she reacts to the feather touch on her belly. Lisa is, once again... Perfect.
I also love how he shuffles the frills with his forearm, where a particularly sensitive area would be, but barely grazes the tip of her Elissa costume, just above her chest. What a cruel tease.
Tumblr media
So!!! Goddamn!!! Soft!!! He takes her hand so gently, very unlike many phantoms who get scared when she touches the mask. 10/10 would date this almost human being.
Tumblr media
They way they don't break eye contact, the way he holds her hand with both of his... Maybe not so original, but it gets me every time. He is a sensual, soft and confident guide. Love that.
Tumblr media
The way!!! Their hands!!! Don't want!!! To separate!!!
Tumblr media
Aaaand Erik fucks up. Damn, son, if you only weren't a goblin... Also, SUPERB Lisa acting again. I am a simp
As always, our thanks to @glassprism for the source material.
