Cyrus: "With a glance at our surroundings... We should arrive at Madame Sylvania's castle by noon. It seems Maria traveled further than originally anticipated.”
The Espeon reaches down and carefully picks up the sleeping Sprigatito. They move slower yet more precise than that of Maria previously. After placing Prince on their back, the Espeon glances out to the morning sun before turning to face forward.
Cyrus: "Come now, young Master. We haven't a moment to waste."
((Cyrus has been added to the Character Page and is now available for asks! Maria, on the other hand, is currently unavailable for asks.))
((Also, help with the posing and framing of much of this comic goes to my partner, @splotchi / @ask-enchantingdelights !! They helped suggest some things as well with how this turned out!))

What is a Hybrid Solar System?
A hybrid solar system combines traditional grid-tied solar panels with backup home batteries to store excess energy. It also uses solar inverters, switches and charge controllers.
Choosing a solar hybrid system helps you minimize your dependence on the electricity grid while still enjoying the benefits of net metering and utility rates. It also lets you strategically manage time-of-use electricity rates to maximize your savings.
First Solar
A hybrid solar system is a great option for homeowners who want to keep their power on even when the grid goes down. These systems connect to the public utility grid and allow homeowners to harness energy from the sun, store it in their battery for use when the grid is down, and then tap into the electricity from the grid when their own stored energy runs out.
First Solar is leading the way in advanced thin film Cadmium Telluride (CadTel) photovoltaic technology with a fully integrated manufacturing process under one roof that does not rely on Chinese crystalline silicon (c-Si) supply chains. Their CadTel solar modules deliver superior lifetime energy, lower LCOE and a better environmental performance than conventional c-Si PV panels.
With a focus on responsible supply chain management and transparency, First Solar has a history of setting benchmarks in recycling, and upholds a strong commitment to our people and the environment. First Solar and GE’s Power Conversion business have developed a 4-MW ProSolar 1,500-volt power station that combines First Solar’s thin-film CadTel PV modules with GE’s new AC front-end inverter/transformer.
Panasonic
A hybrid solar system is the perfect solution for homes that are prone to power outages caused by weather events or technical errors. The system ensures that you will always have a continuous supply of electricity in the event of a grid failure by pulling from your own solar battery storage.
These systems are able to export power back to the grid, use your backup batteries for self-consumption and also utilize an engine generator for times when the sun isn’t out. They are a great option for those who want to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels and also increase the reliability of their energy supply.
Founded by Konosuke Matsushita in 1927, Panasonic has become one of the largest electronics companies in the world and is known for its consumer electronics, appliances, and audio-visual equipment. The company produces air conditioners, televisions, video cameras, microwave ovens, home appliances, rice cookers, radios, refrigerators and portable personal computers (Panasonic laptops). It has also entered into partnerships to manufacture products under the brands GE, RCA, Sylvania, Magnavox and Montgomery Ward.
Solar Panels
Generally, hybrid solar system Nerang consist of four main components: solar panels, a solar inverter, a switchboard and a battery storage. Solar panels are the most visible part of a hybrid system, usually mounted on roofs or in yards. They are often enclosed in a frame for protection from the elements, as well as to keep debris away from the connections inside.
Once your solar panel systems produces more energy than you need, the excess is sent to a battery through a hybrid inverter. The solar battery will store the energy until you need it. This can be particularly helpful during high household energy use periods like warm summer months.
If you go completely off-grid, it requires a lot of careful planning and consumption management to ensure that your backup battery does not run out of power. Alternatively, you can install a grid-tied solar system with battery backup to make the most of utility net metering and avoid relying on fossil fuels in the event of a power outage.
Battery Storage
Typically, a solar system consists of panels, an inverter and batteries. These are all used to harness the sun’s energy and convert it into alternating current (AC) electricity for your household appliances. When there’s excess energy, it can either be sent back to the grid through an energy meter or saved in your battery if you have a hybrid system or – as is the case with standard grid-tied systems – consumed during off-peak times when electricity prices are lower.
A hybrid solar system also allows you to stay connected to the power grid if needed, which is particularly important when you live in an area where frequent outages are common. In addition, if your utility company doesn’t offer retail rate net metering, a hybrid solar system can help you maximize your savings by storing energy in batteries and using it at peak usage times when your electricity rates are highest This is known as time-of-use (TOU) pricing.

(What's My Line?: The first black contestant I've seen on a game show all year, top left, and Edward R Murrow top right and bottom.)
Day 82- TV and Radio:
TV:
Burns and Allen, season 3, episode 9, “Gracie Sells a Swamp so Harry Will Buy a TV Set,” December 4th, 1952.
Beat the Clock, December 13th, 1952.
What’s My Line?, season 3, “Edward R. Murrow,” December 7th, 1952.
Radio:
Fibber McGee and Molly, “Bowling Team Championship,” December 2nd, 1952.
You Bet Your Life, December 3rd, 1952.
Bright Star, “The Boxer,” December 4th, 1952.
Today’s episode of the radio show Bright Star was the final surviving one from 1952. I’ll miss being able to listen to it. It wasn’t a perfect show, but it was always breezy and fun, and the time just flew by. The only things I didn’t like about it were one of the comic relief characters in the office and the fact that George felt the need to go around punching any man who challenged his masculinity. I think the main problem the show had was timing- by late 1952, radio was not the place to be anymore. Television was.
What’s My Line? was interesting for a few reasons today. Number one- finally we had a non-white contestant on a game or panel show! I’ve been watching them for the whole year of 1952, and every single person has been white. (Obviously with radio shows, I cannot tell.) Recently What’s My Line? had their first and only black celebrity guest so far- Eddie Anderson- but I’d never seen a black contestant. This guy was the head of the board of parole in Ohio, which is pretty cool in and of itself for 1952! The other most interesting thing was Edward R. Murrow as the celebrity. He did fantastically well disguising his beautiful baritone voice. He’s pretty dreamy when he’s smiling and more lighthearted! I’ve loved his editorials- he speaks so eloquently and was an important voice of progressivity. He’s definitely an intellectual hunk in my book!
..And now a word from today’s best sponsor: The 1953 Sylvania Huntington model Television set! Here is a big screen TV- 21 whole inches!- for the modern age! Only Sylvania has Halolight- a soft cool frame of light around the edge of the screen that is kinder to your eyes. Because we all want an extra ring of light around our TV screens! This new model also has the sensational Strat-o-power 508 chassis! Because it seems to be required that every TV manufacturer have some kind of meaningless mumbo jumbo name for a component you’ll never understand! Doesn’t Strat-o-power sound cool?! It’ll give you reception for distant fringe areas and for all VHF and UHF! Whatever those are! So remember- Sylvania is “The Top TV for ‘53!”

a nouveaux start a self para
Well, she should have seen this coming.
The Elders were nice enough people (even if some of the "elders" were younger than she was), but they were so single mindedly focused on conflict avoidance that none of them wanted to speak when she entered the room.
Terpsichore entered with a smile on her face, glancing at the fine details of the room. The way the seams joined in supported tresses, the angle of the windows that allowed maximum light in while remaining structurally sound, and the door frame with the added security of what she called a flash bar - a beam that could be thrown by literally anyone of any strength to blockade the door against attack. Yes, Rhodesy was proud of the work she had done on this building. There were replicas of it throughout Sylvania, in fact. Nearly every tribe had picked up the blueprints to construct this exact building for their own elders.
Unlike many politicians and leaders, Rhodesy was perfectly comfortable with silence. She found often that silence brought clarity. It also allowed for the beauty of the forest to impact your brain. The forest was a natural communicator, but it was wickedly polite. If you made noise, tried to talk to it? The forest would respect you and wait its turn. But if you allowed it to speak, it would tell you eons of secrets. She had spent her life listening to nature and putting its words onto paper, onto tarp, onto leather. In fact, the fluid joint connections of this very building were inspired by the root system of a felled tree. That was a secret the forest told her while she was in silence.
But no, politicians and leaders always needed to fill the silence. "Dead air," they called it, which was preposterous. Silence was when the air was most alive. But regardless of Rhodesy's feelings on the matter, one of the Elders spoke.
"Terpsichore, thank you for coming to us today."
She let a smile come to her face as she nodded in greeting. "Thank you all for having me. How can I be of service to you all today?"
Lucien, an oak tree of a man, spoke. "We need to talk to you about... something."
"If this is about the incident the other day, I assure you there's no problem," she jumped in. "It's actually quite safe to be in a river during a rainstorm, and I have no complaints to file about the young man who saw me. I'm not ashamed of my body and I don't think anyone should be. He didn't seem to mind - we had a good laugh about it later."
Another elder, Thalia, blurted out, "Rhodesy! Were you naked in the river again?"
"No, I was wearing a skirt this time. After the complaints from last time. Which were completely unfounded by the way. If someone has a problem with me enjoying the sun, they should simply look the other direction."
"No, no, it's not about that," Lucien continued. "You may have heard of the new multiclan colony, Nova?"
"I have heard of it."
"We'd... uh. We'd like you to go to it."
Terpsichore let the silence build before yet another councilmember jumped into the awkwardness. Yola couldn't handle it and blurted out:
"To be our representative! There, at the colony."
For the first time in this conversation, Rhodesy's eyebrow quirked upwards. They wanted to send her as a representative? Well that certainly was a welcome, if novel, idea. Truly, Terpsichore had never felt that she did a great job "fitting in" with the folks of her village, so to be asked to represent them in a new colony was an odd choice.
However, before she got very far into her train of thought, Lucien interrupted. "Well, not our representative. Not as a council woman or anything." Yola snorted out of derision. How could anyone possibly have thought that was what she had meant?
"But," Lucien continued. "As a... marker. Of Sylvanian culture. You have built us some beautiful things, Terpsichore. And we all think you would do good work in Nova. Having someone from our small village there, as well, would bring us all acclaim. We've submitted an application on your behalf - a nomination, really - and we received word today that you've been accepted."
Rhodesy looked to Thalia, one of the only people in this village who she had grown to trust, or even particularly like. "And what do you think, Thalia? Is this... what is needed?"
Thalia chose not to look at her when she replied, "It's what is needed for our village. And, perhaps, all of Sylvania."
So she was being sent to Nova. Once again, Rhodesy let the silence build, her smile never dropping from her lips. Of course, there was no question here. She had been "accepted." They had "nominated" her. If she said no, there was little doubt that Lucien would say something along the lines of, "Well, your things are already on their way because we thought you'd be honored."
She could feel the silence pressurizing the room. In fact, the space was designed for that - to trap heat in the winter. With it, her grin grew into a toothy smile before she popped it with her fangs. "Alright."
There was an audible breath of relief from the Elders - even the ones who hadn't spoken so much as a word to her for the entire conversation. "I shall go to Nova, and I will tell them all about the place I call home. All about the wonderful support I received. And when these buildings start to crumble someday and you need someone to fix them for you, I will know I am missed. Just as I will miss you all."
It was a hollow threat - any of her students would be able to maintain these buildings. After all, they were distinctly Rhodesian in style. And her students only were taught the best. But her words added an undertone of tension back into the room - just the way she liked it.
"Is that all?" She smiled at each Elder in turn.
Thalia lifted a hand. "Actually, we should talk about the incident, Rhodesy. Aelin was... traumatized."
"Traumatized? By my breasts?" She turned her head to look at Yola. "You might be a bit concerned for your marriage, Yola, if my breasts scare your husband. For what it's worth, I'd suggest you not let him creep around in the bushes when I'm half naked in a rainstorm. Also, no need to worry anymore, right? I'll be gone soon. So, if that conversation is now complete, I'll be off. Gotta pack for my big new adventure!"
With another smile and a roguish wink, Terpsichore Rhodes turned on her heel and marched out of the building she had designed - bound for the new land of Nova.

Saying Goodbye
[First year is over...]
The end of the year came swiftly and quietly, which suited Sonic just fine. He’d had just about enough of all the adventure and death defying for at least a few months, so he happily sat his exams and tried not to fail. He didn’t see Knuckles much in the last few weeks of class because their schedules didn’t mesh well. The only time they could be together was the late evenings, and that’s when they also had to study, so Sonic began to associate Knuckles with textbooks, which was never fun.
Shadow was nowhere to be found, so Sonic happily assumed that he’d been expelled or something, though Knuckles kept saying that he had a feeling that Shadow would be back next year. Sonic didn’t even want to think about next year considering he had a long, relaxing summer ahead of him, so he usually ignored Knuckles when he started saying stuff like that.
Mostly, Sonic was glad that things went back to normal. Exams came and went, and eventually the End of the Year Feast was upon them. House points were awarded and Ravenclaw won, and Sonic was happy to see Espio happy. Even happier to see Snoop glowering as Espio bragged afterwards.
That night, Sonic told all of his friends farewell for the summer. Rouge gave him a tight hug and mumbled something about seeing him soon, which he thought was weird because the next time he would be seeing her would be August, on the train. But, she gave him this long, heavy look that made him think that maybe he didn’t know anything.
Espio and Scout gave him their address and ordered him to write or else. When he said he didn’t have an owl they sighed. “Of course you don’t,” Scout muttered. “We’ll let you borrow ours. She’ll be there next Monday.”
“Jeeze,” Sonic laughed, “you gonna miss me that bad?”
“Yeah,” Espio and Scout said together. Then, they launched into an explosive round of jinx that ended with Scout on the ground, pinned under Espio’s slightly larger frame. Sonic thought that Espio still owed Scout a soda though.
Cream was her bubbly self as she stood near the door and told everyone goodnight and goodbye, because she won’t be at the train platform tomorrow. “Momma needs help in her office,” she said by way of explanation as Sonic kneeled down to get a hug from her. She happily obliged, and he scooped her up. She promised to write, though she might need help from her mother, but she also promised to send him hand-drawn pictures. He told her that he couldn’t wait, and her smile was so bright that he felt ten pounds lighter.
Finally, Knuckles, though that waited until they were both in the Room of Requirement. Knuckles was already there when Sonic arrived, checking the Master Emerald over for nicks or dings. His trunk was nearby, already packed tight with robes and books; all that’s left is the Master Emerald.
“How will you get it in?” Sonic asked as he stopped at the bottom of the dais steps.
“Tomorrow morning I’ll shrink it down. It doesn’t like being contained, but it should make the trip fine.” Knuckles patted the giant gem as if it was a loyal puppy. “It made the trip here fine, anyway.”
Sonic heaved a deep sigh. “I guess this is it then. Everyone is going their separate ways.”
Knuckles looked back at him, expression unreadable. “It’s only for a few months. We’ll be back.”
“I know.” Sonic scuffed his shoe into the ground. The sound it made echoed off the walls. “It’s going to be weird though. I’m used to seeing you every day. Promise you’ll write.”
Knuckles hesitated, hands resting on the Master Emerald. “I’ll try. My owl can’t make trips to and from Angel Island all that often. It’s hard.”
Sonic understand that in the back of his brain, but right then it sounded almost like Knuckles was trying to shake him loose. “Oh, okay.”
Knuckles, who at the beginning of year never would have been able to pick up the nuanced sadness in those two words, quickly crossed toward him. “I’m going to be here next year,” he said, and his words were forceful, a promise. “You can’t get rid of me that easily.”
Sonic sat down on the steps. “I know. I’m just going to miss you. And everyone else. And the castle. This place just feels like home.”
Knuckles sat down next to him. He didn’t say anything.
Sonic nudged him with his shoulder. “I know Angel Island is your home. But, at least Sylvania is a good second home, right?”
Knuckles swallowed so hard Sonic heard it. “Yeah. I’m going to miss it too.” He paused. “You too.”
“Aww,” Sonic cooed, “you like me. I’m your friiiieeend.”
“Okay, moment ruined,” Knuckles declared. But, speaking of friends. I need to ask you a favor. Will you take something with you?”
Sonic straightened, sitting up as tall as possible. It wasn’t often that Knuckles asked for help, especially in something that really mattered. Sonic was flattered and honored, but he tried not to show it. He wanted to be professional about this. “Yeah, whatever you need.”
Knuckles held his hand out, offering Sonic the red Chaos Emerald. “They need to say separated,” he said, motioning toward the Master Emerald. “It’s safer. You’re the only person I can trust to keep it safe.”
“Knuckles...” Sonic said as he accepted the Emerald. It was heavy in his palm, and it sparked as it came into contact with Sonic’s palm. “I’ll keep it safe. No worries.”
“Thanks. That’s a big relief, actually.”
“It’s just another thing for me to hide from everyone. No biggie.”
Knuckles rolled his eyes and punched Sonic lightly in the shoulder. Sonic recoiled and made a great show of rubbing at the injury, though it didn’t hurt that much. Knuckles was getting better at holding back.
“One good thing that happened this year,” Knuckles said after they’d sat in silence a while. “We met. I finally feel like I belong somewhere again.”
It was a huge reveal and Sonic didn’t know what to say. Everything that came to mind was corny or teasing and this wasn’t the time or place. So, he just kept his mouth shut. Instead, he looped his arm around Knuckles’s shoulders and pulled him in for a sideways hug. It was only after Knuckles pulled away that he said, “Me too, buddy. Me too.”
+++
The next morning, there was one more round of goodbyes, though these were brief and sporadic. Some on the platform, some on the train. Sonic and Knuckles sat together until Sonic had to get off at Westside Island, talking about nothing of consequence. As Sonic gathered his things, he looked around the train and nodded once. “See ya later, Knuckles.”
“Until August,” Knuckles answered.
Sonic departed with only one look back.

Longueville House in Sydney, NSW

Longueville House, New South Wales
Design: Vanessa Wegner Architect
Location: Longueville, New South Wales, Australia
The Longueville House is a renovation of a Californian bungalow in the leafy Sydney suburb of Longueville.
The envelope of the original house was maintained and restored at the front with the new work concealed from the street frontage at the rear and side. The new bedroom and living areas gradually reveal themselves as one enters and moves through the house.
The concept of the verandah is taken from the front and celebrated at the rear to connect the new areas to the garden and the view over the valley and to provide a shady outdoor living space. The brick and timber detailing of the original is expressed in a new form at the rear pairing well with the detail and solidity of the original bungalow.
The site had a significant cross fall that allowed us to integrate the new living areas on two levels yet with the appearance and feeling of a one storey dwelling – which was part of the clients brief.
The site faces South at the rear so the new kitchen roof was tipped up to receive North Western light which is does in abundance while the more solid west facing living room has carefully proportioned openings with timber screens for the Western sun. The clients are thrilled with the house and said they rarely used a/c during the last summer.
Large water tanks are stored under the deck and connected to the pool and garden. The materials of the existing house were all maintained. The materials to the new house are Austral “Chillingham white” face bricks, concrete floors, blackbutt decks, cedar ceilings and Rosewood (ethically sourced) timber framed windows and doors.

What to look for in Bookshelf Speakers under $500?
What to look for in Bookshelf Speakers under $500? There are a number of things you should look at for when parting away with your hard-earned money. Before we proceed, you also have to know that in recent years lots of improvements have gone into these speakers from a larger size to compact size. From the enclosures to connectivity, from wired to wireless, many of these have either improved for good or sacrificed for price. Spending $500 on bookshelf speakers may seem too big for some or too little for others, but the truth is "what you are buying is it worth the price?" fair enough, for someone looking for details which is the first step, the price will worth it. Here is what to look for in Bookshelf Speakers under $500 Compatibility Like the bookshelf speakers under $500 we look at are all compact, will fit into any environment and space. Some of them are standalone while others are passive, the setup of these speakers are straight and can easily act as either part of a home theater setup. That is why you have to know what you already have to know what you are getting. A newbie wouldn't know what's needed e.g an amp, but an old-timer will know whether the turntable they have will work on it or not. Features You have to know the features like the frequency response, wattage, Ohm, and more. Is it bluettoth enable, dome size and bass driver size. You have to know what you need for it to produce the desired sound, like connection parts, user manual, and any external device. Design For a $500 bookshelf speaker, the design should say it all, even though the design is not all that matters. You can find a bookshelf speaker under $100 with a classic design but don't expect that it should match a $500 speaker. Some of these speakers are sold today base on design and brand, not the quality. The Q Acoustic 3020 is a good example, it is compact and small in size, but when it turned on, the ears begin to tremble, come to other larger once, they will additional sub to back it up.. Connectivity Some of these bookshelf speakers are passive speakers which means you will need a receiver, some of them are powered which means they can play without help. Some of them are Bluetooth enable and come with remote control and most of these speakers are easy to connect. Price Presumably, $500 for a bookshelf is a reasonable price for some, these prices don't usually come as the cost of making one, but the price of the brand. Price is one tag that tends to increase, even when quality has disintegrated, the bookshelf speakers you will find here are quality assured with the highest customer ratings. Warranty/Guarantee This is one particular area you shouldn't overlook because this is what will save you from a total loss. Most manufacturers offer warranties or guarantees on all of the bookshelf speakers, where this comes handy is when there is a damage after short while or you change your mind after purchase. Always read the terms of purchase to avoid future regrets.

How far apart should bookshelf speakers be?
For people asking how far apart should bookshelf speakers be, we recommend 4 feet of seperation or 8 feet seperation for floorstanding speakers. One of the reason why the sound is muddy because the blend together as a result of been too close. If set apart, there will be a gap between the two halves of the stereo.
Do I need a subwoofer with bookshelf speakers?
In general terms you don't need a subwoofer with bookshelf speakers, most of these bookshelf speakers are large and in most cases used alongside home theaters. Frank LaCavera and his hour glass collections By  PEOPLE STAFF June 05, 1989 12:00 PM Like the sands through the hourglass, so are the days of Frank J. LaCavera’s life. LaCavera, a 70ish retired electrical engineer, lives in Cleveland in a house that is filled with reminders of the temporal — more than 300 one-of-a-kind hourglasses that he has designed and made in the last 32 years. Frank LaCavera hourglass Among the inspirations that became hourglasses are: Castle and Dragon, which includes a tiny steel dragon next to a tiny castle, set on a piece of amethyst, all inside a crystal ball; Pluto, with the hourglass perched atop a spaceship; and Ribs, which includes a plastic pig under glass, reclining in a centerfold pose. LaCavera took up his hobby when he was looking for an hourglass to decorate his study and found out that the closest thing he could buy in Cleveland was an egg timer, so he went into business for himself. He had to invent the machinery and instruments, including one to remove static electricity from inside the glass and another to determine the proper size of the hole between the two halves of the hourglass. (His hourglasses are accurate to 14 seconds an hour.) LaCavera has sold only a few hourglasses over the years (they run from $89 to $1,500), but he prefers to hang on to his work, which now fills the modest three-bedroom frame house he shares with wife Phyllis on the city’s west side. Phyllis thinks the world should see more of her husband’s hourglasses. “Work this beautiful,” she says, “should be out there where people can enjoy it.” Hourglass maker Frank LaCavera filling 12 of his hourglass bulbs w. sand as he prepares to time test each piece that he will use in his ornate hourglass creations at his workshop in home. A new law which takes effect Friday repeals the antiquated statute which shut down taverns, bars, and other liquor along with the state's monopoly retail voting hours. All will be open Nov. 2, including the state which in the past have given their employes the entire day off although bars and restaurants usually let the booze flow again an hour after polls closed, as the old law per- mitted. Rep John A Galbraith, R-69 Moumce, sponsored Ihe new law, calling the old one "archaic He said the days are gone when people "voted publicly and sat under the trees passing the jug around. No one tries to buy votes with whisky anymore." Galbraith got little help from his Republican colleagues as his bill squeaked through the Democratic House 55-39 and Senate 17-15 Restaurant and bar owners who claimed the law unfairly penalized their businesses lobbied for him, and may have helped convince Gov. James A. Rhodes who signed the repealer without comment. The 52-year-old Galbraith said despite the lobbying, the bill represented his "personal conviction that the old law was out of date Ohio was the only one of the 10 largest states which continued to have such a prohibition." Rep Alan E Norris, R-27 Westerville, whose hometown claims to be the "birthplace of prohibition" and remains dry. carried the House opposition. He said he felt simply that "people should be sober when they vote." He said it wasn't a moral issue with him, but felt the old law "was good for more than 100 years" and was needed to help protect the integrity of Ohio's election process. 'Beautiful river' helped young Ohio's economy By The Associated Press The Ohio River, "La Bel- le Riviere" or "the beautiful river" to the ear- ly French explorers, re- mains to this day a prime consideration in Ohio's transportation network but it has always been (he focus of Ohio history from the verv beginnings of the state, and even before Ohio was a state. The river always kept its prestige in competition with Lake Erie as a chan- nel of trade, and from its banks came some of the men and helped make the nation's greatness One of the first com- panies of the pioneer city Marietta was a shipyard The brig St Clair, built there, reached Cincinnati in April, 1801, and got as far as Cuba on that trip It demonstrated that the black walnut of the In the library there are papers showing that the Louisiana of Marietta, in 1805, visited New Orleans, Norfolk and Italy. Carter recalled as pious preacher LOCK HAVEN, Pa "He knocked on doors asking people if they needed Jesus Christ as their per- sonal savior. He never breathed to us he was a politician." Mrs Robert Farwell was reminisc- ing about Jimmy Carter. She remembered him as the evangelist who eight years ago trumpeted Christianity in this central Penn- sylvania town. It was in 1968 that Carter visited the Lock Haven area as a member of a six-man team of Southern Baptist laymen attempting to start a second Baptist church. "He was the most humble and com- passionate man my husband and I ever met." Mrs Farwell, a widow of six months, said recently in a tele- phone interview. "He was a man who really loved the Lord Jesus Christ You could feel it every minute you were around him." The Baptist laymen remained two weeks, working in pairs and visiting 10 to 15 homes a day. Support for a se- cond Baptist parish grew and even- tually a new church was established. For a time the new congregation was led by a divinity student from Texas, but he left. A permanent pastor was never found and the con- gregation dissolved and the new church closed. "He always wore a business suit." recalled Mrs Farwell, who lives in Flemmgton, near Lock Haven. "We knew he was a distinguished person. as the volume of ship- building However, the em- bargo of 1807, caused by the war between Great Bri- tain and Napoleon, ruined the Ohio shipyards for a time. Four years after Robert Fulton invented the steam- boat, the first such craft was seen on the Ohio It was the New Orleans, built at Pittsburgh, which went down river in 1811. It had a speed of only 12 miles an hour, but that was enough to mark the beginning of the end for the flatboat and barge lines which had en- joyed all the trade until that time. The steamboats made travel safer and cheaper as well as faster, thus adding much to Ohio's growth and prosperity. Carolina dams lose to scenery WASHINGTON (AP) After a four-year legislative fight, a bill to save a scenic stretch of the New River in North Carolina from being inundated by power- generating dams is likely to win congressional approval this year. The House passed the bill Tuesday by a 311-73 vote and sent it to the Senate, which approved similar legislation jn the last Congress. President Ford has announced he would sign the bill. Every major environmental group in the country has backed the measure to save the 26.5-mile stretch "It looks like we will finally get it through this said Rep Ken Hechler. D-W.Va one of the long-time supporters of the New River legislation. The measure would bar the two-dam Blue Ridge Pro- ject of the Appalachian Power Co. The Federal Power Commission has approved the project but construction has been delayed by court appeals. Rep. Paul Simon, D-I11, who has taken a boat trip down the river, said it is a wonder of nature that should be preserved for posterity. "If any of you have a chance to take that trip, then I don't think you'll ever vote against this he told his colleagues. "God took 100 million years to create this river. Let's keep a power company from destroying Hechler said. He cited the statement by geologists that the river is the oldest in the Western Hemisphere.
