@arnoldsportsau recap. After qualifying at the end of January, it was always going to be a huge step up, on a short prep, to hang with strongest open strongmen in the country, along with a contingent from NZ and South Africa. I came to Melbourne to give my best and not zero any event. I did just that. With a less than ideal lead up, I went in and scored on every event, set new PB's and got direction and focus on where I need to put in the work. Highlight for me was definitely pulling a 380kg framedeadlift for a 40kg PB, then breaking 400 off the floor but not quite being able to get my hips through to lock it out. Continuing to show that my deadlift work is still gaining kg's! I was stoked with how quick my yoke moved on the opening medley, but grip being my weakest point, let me down in the frame carry. Still, This has improved since Sept, when I failed to pick and move this same weight on a stand alone frame run. Having never lifted a Viking Press 5 weeks ago, to score and get 2 reps on the 150kg press, was a very welcome surprise. I was also stoked on moving the 190kg easily on power stairs, but ran out of drive on the 200,only getting it 2 steps. Stones was a mix of happiness at how quick the 150kg went up at 1.3m, then disappointment that I couldn't load the 170kg second stone. Coming into this event, I thought the second stone was 160kg so to lap (3 times) the 170kg was a consolation. So far my PB stone is 165kg, which I'm looking forward to upping soon. Unfortunately yesterday was the day with nothing left in the hamstrings after a huge day. Thanks firstly to the amazing woman @bigbirdstrongwoman, for always pushing me, supporting me and screaming her voice away, every comp. So stoked to get to share this sport with you.
