Will whoever is in charge of familiars go talk to the fucking gene design people!? Because clearly they need to copy your notes.

Do they even look at nature for hints? Nature’s damn good at designs, rip nature off and make it work (you did it with Poison and Skink, so clearly you guys can pick up ideas a little bit.) Good god, the guy who tried to make interesting color designs for Disney’s Dinosaur had better gene/pattern ideas than the FR gene team. He made a fucking Mallard look decent! And these are his super restrained designs for Disney, which, as we know, all ended up being shades of beige.

So gene people, get on the ball, the familiar team is kicking your ass in designs and patterns (and if you’re somehow the same people, then you ought to be doubly kicked in the ass for being so half-ass about your genes *cough*shitastic bleeding gradient garbage Thylacine*cough* when you clearly put actual effort into Familiars).

You wanna do Smoke? You make that crap look like actual Smoke, not that noodly crap we’ve got now.

We’ve got Smoke Gyres and statistically one of you butts must smoke, vape or know someone who does, so you know what smoke looks like and how it acts! Pick a starting point (the paws, the belly, head -> tail, something and you make it look like smoke.)

A Obs/Obs/Cyan smoke tundra would’ve been pretty damn cool looking (smoke-gene being that the base color of a hair is lighter than the top half of the hair, so basically every hair part on a tundra would’ve shown a smoky undercolor, on skinned breeds, the undercolor would’ve been in the folds and curves, just imagine a double-layered iridescent!), it would'v been a hell of a lot better of a shaded gradient filter than what you did with Stained. Which goes from making shit tert colors somewhat bearable to looking fantastic to “why does that dragon make me think my glasses are dirty”?

Why am I complaining? Because you can all goddam do better on genes, the familiars show that you can.  So stop being fucking lazy, a computer fills in all the colors for you now, so you don’t have any “it’s so hard to color in” excuses. Give the program something to fucking work with, that’s why you’re there to do small tweaks when the bulk computer coloring is done. And actually do them instead of mass shipping out shitty colors like you did with Stained, you could’ve at least tried to do some texture on that one and make it worth the gem cost, but now it’s too late. 

Experiment with your genes, make some of those genes touch the belly, and work over UB and Glim (Ripple, Skink -only on bog throats for some reason-, Savannah), stop confusing hugeass gradients and color blobs for “pretty designs” (Okapi, Thylacine, Stained), fucking follow your suggestion requirement that the genes work in combination with at least a few other genes (Runes, gee thanks for running over the Skink spots.  Contour, You didn’t need to think it wasn’t painted on in MS did you).  At least whoever did Opal knew what they were doing, even if they were sorta uneven at picking placement for max effect (stop with the fucking face blobs on guardians, they’ve got Jay Leno chins, horns and cheek frills you could throw crap on for a change, but no, it’s bird-crap spatter to the face every time with them.  You had the right idea on Male snappers and SDs, do more of that!)

It was nice to get that off my chest, FR’s not going to change, of course, genes will continue to be occasionally good but generally shitty and not pay attention to musculature, countershading, distinctivenes, breed specifics.  But hell, at least it keeps the Skin artists in business…..
