Truce - Ch3 Preview 2/?

This is in reference to this. I’m agog that I’d somehow forgotten to share this upcoming scene in Truce its entirety—when I thought I had. Honest mistake, luvs. I shall rectify it immediately.

A snippet of my favorite part from this lil interview section:

“Not to worry. Between you and me”—the chair creaked as he leaned in, lips quirked sideways, his brows expressive, and his hand hovering beside his cheek—“Butcher and I got a secret bromance happening behind the scenes, I tell you what.” The discreet Lavalier microphone clipped somewhere on Homelander’s supersuit had picked up the hushed whisper, making the audio crisp and clear. Thirteen different camera angles captured Jimmy’s brows shooting up. He repeated, “A bromance.” “Yep. A bromance for the ages. Color me stoked.” The plastic shell of his features melted away, resembling a more complete flesh-and-blood human. Easing back into his seat, Homelander said, “I just think, like with any large and aggressive attack dogs, as owners we have a responsibility to properly train and socialize them. Now I don’t own a dog myself but if I did, I would keep my mutt on a short leash—and obedient only to me. He won’t bite, not unless I tell him to.”

A/N - I’m sure y’all remember Jimmy Fallon’s cameo in S1. It only makes sense to replace Translucent with Homelander now. I originally considered Cole Cameron to ask the hard hitting questions, but he dies in S4 (thanks, Ashley). So I elected to not go with him.

And the line about Butcher not being caped but quite clearly dark is lifted from the comics, as a lil Easter egg ;) but I changed it from Black Noir to Billy because Homelander’s doubling down on the lie/ cover story that he’s the one who “reached out his hand and brought Billy back from the path of villainy by inviting him into the Seven” 🙄

Part 4 [Winter]

“Damn, it’s cold.” Cale said as hurried to open the latch to the bathroom. He quickly changed out of his clothes and let his towel hang when he entered the large bath, however he had a guest, “Ah.”

As he pulled the sliding door he could see his partner having the time of his life.

Wine on the counter, while overlooking the entire city, a marble bathtub so large it could fit 5 grown adults in it, and who should be leaning in the bath with a wine glass in his hand but the owner of the extravagant bathroom, his lover, Alberu Crossman.

“Oh, you’re home,” the blonde said as he leaned back to meet Cale’s eyes.

“You seem comfortable.” Cale said as he walked near the golden haired man, planting a kiss on his forehead.

Alberu chuckled as he pulled Cale’s hand into the bathtub, “Care to join me?” He said, pulling out the bottle of wine from the counter and into his hands.

“Of course. It’s cold.” Cale said as he casually slipped into the bath.

Alberu hummed a Christmas carol as he unscrewed the bottle and handed it to Cale.

Cale thanked him and took a large swig of the liquid.

‘Château Lafite Rothschild. How expensive for a bath. I don’t mind though.’

Cale put his head in the warm water for a minute, allowing the dizziness and warmth to spread over his body like a wet blanket.

He exhaled as he pulled himself out of the water and proceeded to recline on the other end of the bathtub.

Alberu hummed a little tune, “Fly me to the moon, is it?” Cale asked as he got out of the tub and began to put the soap on his body.

“Mhmm,” Alberu nodded as he filled his glass again, “Also Cale, could I wash your hair?”

Cale was a bit perplexed but didn’t stop what he was doing, “Why?” he asked, turning his head to face him.

Alberu just tilted his head over a smile on his face, “Just a small whimsy of mine, so won’t you let me?”

Cale sighed as he got the shampoo and walked back into the tub, this time however he sat within Alberu’s open embrace, and quietly overlooked the scenery that encompassed the entirety of the cityscape.

Cale noticed the little flakes of snow dropping from the sky and onto the hundreds of buildings, and roads that ran across the city. The orange lights that he could see from his own towering building were almost blinding.

“Would you look at that, it’s the first snow of the year.” Cale remarked.

Alberu took a short pause, looking outside the window, “Oh, you’re right.”

He could feel the calloused fingers of the man gliding through his hair meticulously shampooing his hair come to a stop before continuing ever so naturally.

The touch was so delicate, it was almost ticklish.

When the fingers touched his neck he realized that they were cold. Probably because he had them out of the water for so long. Not to mention that he did have his hand on the cold wine bottle for quite a while.

Alberu tried to make small talk, “How’s your day been?”

To which Cale sighed and replied, “Busy, but definitely not as busy as your day has been.” He looked back at his partner’s face.

There were signs of faded dark circles from not sleeping enough and a weary feeling to his movements. Or was he just drunk?

Cale’s eyebrows furrowed as he returned his head to face the window, “Shall we go on a trip this Sunday?”

Alberu smiled brightly, “Sounds heavenly. Although, why so suddenly?”

Cale’s speculations of this man desperately needing a break were of course correct, after all this was the Alberu-notorious-for-overworking-himself-until-he-collapses-Crossman. He sighed dismissing the blond’s question, “In a week, let’s visit the Henituse estate, as well as visiting the east.”

“Shouldn’t we fly to somewhere warm?” Alberu asked.

“It rests all on you. After all, it is you who needs a break, no?” Cale questioned.

“I really can’t hide anything from you, can I?” Alberu chuckled, letting go of the hair that he had been shampooing for a while.

“Of course you can’t. We’re one and the same after all.” Cale said, slowly letting his hair dip into the lukewarm water.

“Want me to give you a massage?” Cale asked, making Alberu drunkenly laugh.

“You don’t think you’ll be able to put any pressure on me, not with those puny arms!?”

Cale pouted jokingly, “Do you really think so?”

“Of course I do,” However a hug would be the perfect thing to take the place of that massage you’re offering me.”

Cale laughed playing along with the tired and clearly blasted man, “Sure, just take some time off alright? I’ll book it after we get out.”

Alberu nuzzled the redhead’s cold back, slowly moving up to his neck as he wrapped his arms around him, he muttered in Cale’s ear, “I love you.”

Cale nodded his head, “I got it, but don’t fall asleep in the bath.”

“Mmmm” Alberu hummed, “can we sleep after this?”

“Yeah, sure.” Cale said trying to get out of the bath unsuccessfully. He turned his head incredulously at Alberu, “Come on, let’s head out then,”

But Alberu was asleep and showed no signs of waking up soon.

So all Cale could do was to struggle in the cold water until this tuckered out oaf who didn’t realize his own weight would get up.

NOW allow me to not give any details about the plot because everything is so well thought and emotional and I’d rather leave you the opportunity to discover (and love) this masterpiece by yourself. A new personal favourite.

You are my heart - Chaptered, Angst, OT9 and broken!KaiBaek. At the age of fifteen, Kyungsoo and Jongin promised to marry each other if they’re alone by their thitieth birthday. At the age of twenty nine and thirty, Jongin goes through so much pain and heartbreak while Kyungsoo still pines silently. This teeters on tragic but have faith in the KaiSoo.

Always Have, Always Will - Twoshot. When Jongin looses to Junmyeon the opportunity to take sous-chef!Kyungsoo on a friendly date, he realizes that he might have wanted more all that time.

The Friend Zone - Oneshot, comedy, side!HunHan. Kyungsoo has been sent to the Friend Zone times and times again. He is unaware that his only bestfriend is exactly in the same position as him.

In plain sight - Oneshot, broken!ChenSoo. Jongin’s tired of seeing his bestfriend sad and heartbroken. All he wants from him is to move on. With him. 

What If - Oneshot, based on the song “What If”. On the day he plans on confessing, Kyungsoo learns that Jongin is dating Soojung. Uhm, it does have a happy ending but not the one you’re expecting. :,(

Brighter - Angst, nonau. Kyungsoo learns about JenKai and Jongin reminds him that he always comes first.

complications; and how they arise - Twoshot, light angst, temporary ChanSoo. Basically Jongin and Kyungsoo postponing their confessions and drifting apart because of insecurities. Lovely.

Good Intentions - Chaptered, slightly OT12. Kyungsoo is tired of his bestfriend constantly bringing new people to their house and comes up with an idea to quench Jongin’s (their) thirst. Kyungsoo’s a freaking music teacher and prepares a Christmas recital with lil kids and I love it.

nothing scares you about me and you - well well if this isn’t another gem from verseau >:) roommates kaisoo are just friends, best friends, but omega jongin is so oblivious and keeps hooking up with other alphas even though he loves kyungsoo's scent and kyungsoo also has his fair share of omegas which riles jongin to no end, yet he won't admit they're made for each other.

look - "he never thought he'd see that shine again but towards another person." the first ship is kaisoo, then jenkai happens, and then kaisoo again. basically kyungsoo is jealous of jongin being in a relationship.

Ain’t nice - Jongin definitely has a type. This has a nice plot twist, it’s otherwise angsty, and I wouldn’t say that it matches 100% the request but I said I should add it. It’s quite interesting. 

The Woes Of The Heart - wedding planner au. kyungsoo loves jongin who is going to marry a girl and kyungsoo is the one that plans their wedding and he pours his feelings in his diary. inarichi snapped with this truly

any new fics to start next year?

Quite a few! :D

I definitely plan to start my horror/thriller fic with Tubbo and Tommy; it's about them trying to solve a serial killing in the town Tubbo just moved into and eventually coming to the stark realization that what's killing these people might not even be human. its a series 👁👁

I've got a few oneshot ideas that I want to work on/finish, especially a pogtopia era tntduo one, one with eret discovering the past of the smp, and a tales oneshot idea with sir billiam.

Alongside the horror one, I'll probably do my emerald duo origins idea! :D it's humanblade since I came up with the idea before bunnyblade was a thing but yknow. It might end up being a three or fourshot but I think it'll be a little long

Fireworks and bloodvines is probably one I'll start as well, it's an eggpire era fireworks duo fic (if the title wasn't super obvious) where Tubbo and Techno have to team up to save everyone

And maybe I'll do the prison farm au if I don't find the workload with those ones too bad. again I do plan to do all my fic ideas so strap in if you wanna read all my writing

Ty, anon, for the Ask! I’m gonna give a huge Spoiler Warning for Truce chs 3-4 (and TNotG ch1) which have not been posted to AO3 yet, so read at your own risk.

29) What songs would be (or are) on a playlist for [insert fic]? Explain your choices if you want!

…Oh goodness, last I checked there were 89+ songs I have for TNotG’s playlist, haha. They’re pretty self-explanatory, in my opinion, but I ordered the songs all by the first world we start in + the six arcs + return to Billy’s world. I’ll link the playlist at the bottom end Author’s Note when The Name of the Game ch1 is ready to be published to AO3 in September 2023, but you can also listen to it here:

As for Truce (which you can read ch1-2 here), there are 47 songs…ahhhhh, essentially for both fics, I listen to these songs I like to help set the vibe, mood, and atmosphere for me while I write. It’s like my background music/ white noise. For me, it’s usually the lyrics which tie into the story, usually highlighting a character motivation, their vibe, or just setting the scene. I can highlight a couple songs:

Crazy - Jake Daniels - It really set the vibe for me to get into Homelander’s headspace whilst writing the prologue, because everything in this chapter is from Homelander’s POV. The atmosphere, the lyrics, and the coincidental bloody superhero album art? I thought it was perfect.✨

Wolf - Zack Merci X Arcana - For ch2 (part I), this song encompasses Billy’s overall goal and manipulation of everyone (the Boys, Homelander, and Vought). It’s pretty much the theme song of this chapter.

Power - Isak Danielson - If Truce could have an opening number like how every show does, this is pretty much the theme song for Truce overall. It also sets the vibe for ch3 (part II) when Billy and Homelander finally get frisky on the kitchen island countertop, and kinda for ch4 as well. Although the entirety of the chapter will be in Billy’s POV, I want you to know as everything is happening, especially if you listen to this song when you read ch3, these lyrics represent the desperation of the ideal that Homelander sees in Billy. He’s ready for that unconditional love, for that perfect soulmate partner who gets him 100% and is just as obsessed with him as he is; in a dramatic turn of events, he’s now essentially pinning all his last hopes for a human connection onto Billy. (Notice ch1’s line: “keep me sane. Keep me grounded. You are the one person preventing me from razing this earth to the f*cking ground” before it shifts into the fear that Ryan, his flesh and blood, will end up disappointing him ➡️ pivoting to the line of how “the definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results. Failure, after failure, after failure […] Maybe what needed to be done was to reevaluate his life. Acquire a different perspective on things, a new outlook.” ➡️ The SHEER POETIC IRONY now that he’s shifted that target in his brain to Billy after what’d happened in ch1. It’s a disaster waiting to happen but we’ll only allude to the disastrous future potential at most because Truce is 4 chapters only and not 12 chapters so we’ll end on a Happy Ending for this PWP fourshot. For me, it’s a song that shows that it’s not always a women that can get stuck in a toxic codependent relationship and that men can also be stuck in the same shoes. And if that ain’t the situation with Homelander and Billy in Truce?

(Also this song^ is the bee’s knees. I never skip this song in my iTunes playlist when it comes up and always belt it out when I’m alone. This song is very, very, very underrated. I highly rec you give it a listen.)

Rob a Bank - Confetti - “Who's to say that I can't break into your house / While you're working / I'm just lurking through your bedroom like a mouse / Gettin' naked on your sofa wearing just your penny loafers / Take some pictures leave 'em by your dirty dishes” ⬅️ What can I say? This screams Homelander to me and I laugh at the imagery of him breaking in, trying out Billy’s shiny new polished penny loafers whilst getting naked on his sofa and taking dirty pictures of himself to leave by the dirty dishes for Billy to find. It’s like a tomcat in heat scent-marking his territory. This song does help me imagine the dynamic when we get to the NS*W parts.

Religion - Isak Danielson / Dancing in the Sky - Kristen Cruz One of these songs will represent the penultimate ch4 which’ll entirely be written in HL’s POV; Religion mostly represents Homelander’s POV (which is really just him desperately trying to deceive himself if we look at it meta-ly, but shhh, he himself is not that self-aware in ch4) whereas Dancing in the Sky represents Billy’s side of things as we end the final scene in the story with Billy given approval to take Ryan to visit Becca’s grave to pay respects and for one last emotional send-off—whilst HL (who Billy doesn’t want to see him anywhere near this day) secretly watches the private moment from far away like a lurker outsider. It’s supposed to be a bittersweet emotional touching moment to tug at the readers’ heartstrings—which gets twisted because this is HL’s POV so it becomes tampered with his desperate obsessiveness and possessiveness of Billy being his and HL’s jealousy of Becca that he won’t admit to but, as an audience, we can tell he’s supeeeeer jealous (like, thanks for giving birth to my son—but you’re dead buried six-feet under, and your husband will be my husband now so good f*cking riddance; I will be the winner; he will come to forget you and love me only). It’s a very fatalistic self-fulfilling prophecy. I REMIND YOU, we will still have a Happy Ending for the Billy/ Homelander ship in Truce (hell, HL will even get to fondle Billy’s old wedding ring and think about having his own wedding ring on Billy’s wedding finger) but we’re gonna get a couple parting ouchies as a souvenir at the end a là Becca’s resting place visit.

Presently exposition scenes I-II (which total 38 pages, with scene I essentially being a speedrun to catch readers who are unfamiliar with these characters and the fandom up to speed whereas scene II is laying out all the story foreshadowings and as many Chekov Guns as I can reasonably shove in for now) are completely done and edited; I’m now trying to get to the finish line of scene III which is the more…exciting part of the three scenes (where dragon!Billy, our transmigrated black-bellied scumbag ML, meets knight!Homelander, our black-bellied scumbag shou, for the first time) before I can give an advanced notice on my socials of the week it’ll probably be posted. ✌️
