#HAAF #CATAI #TheScoopStorytellingInitiative #Bowdi #FOURCi and #NECSOB Have organized a program to celebrate our impact on the United Activism Campaign Project during the 16 Days of Activism were they engage young people to contribute to the elimination of violence against women and girls using their skills and talents. I was one of the participants who reached out to over 123 people (Adolescent Girls, Women, Boys, and Men). To recognize our social impact made during the 16 Days of Activism under the United Activism Campaign Project, a Certificate of Participation was issued to all the Participants. Special thanks to @haaf_se @cataicenter @thescoopinitiative_ #Bowdi @fourci_ng and #NECSOB for recognizing our little efforts towards making sure that we eliminate violence against women and girls. I believe youths can equally support the elimination of gender-related issues. @unwomen @unfpanigeria @actionaidnigeria #16DaysOfActivism2022 #UnitedActivismCampaign (at Maiduguri) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmP4mLiI-AY/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I'm sure most of us watched the 2012 film adaptation of Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables. But I’m also pretty sure nobody saw that movie and thought “woah I would like to dress like those characters”. Well I guess John Galliano thought differently because his Spring Summer 2024 collection for Maison Margiela, resembled the costumes. From the nude and tight corseted prostitutes to the poor and desolate who lined the streets with torn and tattered clothes, Galliano captured it all.
For the weeks following Paris Fashion week it felt like the conversation around the show was inaccessible. Floods of Tik-Tokers were recreating the porcelain makeup look, created in collaboration with Pat McGrath. Twitter or X was a stream of memes and clips of actors who walked in the show such as Gwedoline Christie. The viral nature of the show made it impossible to avoid. Many claimed the theatricality of the show was bringing excitement back to the runways of fashion week. There was definitely excitement and buzz around this show as a complete performance. But what can be said for the clothes and the inspiration itself.
The show opened with the first model emerging from a back lit foggy tunnel, while staggering and walking with a cane. The backlighting highlighted the accentuated shapes of the models' figures, a theme that is consistent throughout the show. There was a key focus on shapes and disfigured human form. Presented inside a vaulted warehouse right underneath Pont Alexandre III, the show played with stereotypical Parisian characters. From the prostitutes of Le Fourcy to cat burglars and gamblers, Galliano covered it all. I suppose this is where the similarities to Les Miserables comes from. Galliano himself said he was inspired by the “seedy underbelly” of Paris and wanted to recreate that in his show.
The execution of the theme is immaculate. The designer delivered his intent without any doubts. The models were wearing form fitting corsets, adorning see through dresses that resemble something from an impressionist painting while others wore patched up jackets and ill fitting trousers. One key element of this show that drew a lot of traction was the pubic hair underwear, and this is where my real critique begins. Pubic hair is still something very taboo among women, we are often shamed and ridiculed for this, so to see it now become a fashion statement, is a bit insulting. There was a lot of hypersexualisation of models, I mean corsets and latex were worn throughout the show, both being rather fetishised clothing items. This is consistent with the theme of course and the designer used the latex material in a nontraditional way by draping it rather than leaving it to be form fitting.
Regardless I find the inspiration for this theme borderline offensive. A luxury fashion brand claiming they were inspired by the seedy underbelly of a city, reads to me like “we were inspired by the poor and destitute”. It’s almost insulting how on the nose the whole thing was. To have models wearing clothes that had fake patches and ill fitting tailoring, I mean it's just so on the nose. It seems to me to be another show that is taking something that the working class is criticized and shamed for and presenting it as art for the rich.
Most of the people in the audience have more than likely never had to patch up their clothes or worn hand me downs that didn't fit properly. So for Galiano to commodify this aesthetic is jarring. As I mentioned it is a beautiful collection, but this ongoing widespread aestheticization of poverty is exhausting and relentless. To some degree at least Galliano admits where his influences lie. That confronts us with the truth but it also paints the designer out of touch and ignorant.

This is a piece done by Invader who puts up tile mosaics of characters from Space Invader. Although his artwork can be seen around the world, Paris, his hometown, is where most of his pieces can be found. This piece was located on a wall on Rue de Fourcy in the 4th arrondissement of Paris.

Send a 🙌 and I’ll introduce you to an NPC related to my Muse.
Booga
Age: 43
Likes: wacky-backy, bright colours, am-dram, Dame Edna Everage
Favorite things: wacky-backy, bright colours, am-dram, Dame Edna Everage, oh and Tank Boy
Booga is mutated kangaroo, one of many whom were created and experimented on with the hopes that a super-soldier would be created by the technicians there. When the head of the project was tasked with destroying them all, he instead helped them escape, going on the run with them, and teaching them all about life. They became the Rippers, a much feared and devastating group of hunters within the desert, attacking anybody who even resembled governmental men on sight.
Like his brothers, Booga gradually developed a deep love of all things British, as their ‘father’ was, and all things to do with marijuana or a hippie lifestyle, after finding out about such things from pestering ‘father’ about his life while growing up, and one day they discovered ‘father’s’ stash of roots that had been genetically modified to give the same effect of marijuana.
Thus, he and his brothers entered in to a stoner / hippie lifestyle (they even converted to vegetarianism and began praying to the rain gods through dance), as ‘father’ rather enjoyed getting high with them and exploring the universe together as a family; he soon regretted all that when he realized that the brothers’ already fragile minds were turning to mush (he caught on when they couldn’t even string a sentence together without pausing or uttering guttural noises of confusion), but that was beyond all cure. As was their now rampant sex drive, so he was not only surrounded by uhmm-ing and uhhhhh-ing ‘Roos, he was also surrounded by pornographic art and stained sheets.
Parenting became too much and so he made his excuses (saying he had a top secret mission to join in a faraway land), left them the recipe for wacky-backy, and ran as far as he could go while laughing madly.
Life carried on as usual, though Booga did miss ‘father’, particularly when his brothers would bully him for being possibly the most stupid of them all. Yet his heart was pure gold, too big to ever hate them, and too small for any notion of being dependent.
When Booga met Tank Boy, he was instantly smitten. Just a bumbling, shy, and young ‘Roo he was, but he quickly set his mind to impressing TB; he loved how TB dressed, how he had a grasp on British culture and comedy, and how he didn’t make him fells tupid. He secretly talked to TB and Jet Girl while they were still prisoners, their allegiances unknown at that stage, and he snuck them wacky-backy and beer. Though initially TB was attempting to sexually persuade Booga in to letting them go, Booga remained a perfect gentleman… err, ‘Roo. He didn’t surrender, because he didn’t want TB to run away like ‘father’.
For his help in persuading his brothers to help TB destroy W&P and rescue Sam (after the body of ‘father’ was sent to them by W&P), Booga was rewarded by TB; though Booga was hesitant at first, TB assured him that he wasn’t going to run away. That he liked Booga and his fluffy tail. That he was like a giant plushie. They consummated their ‘love’ the night before war broke.
After that adventure was done, revenge complete and Sam back in her father’s arms, Booga summoned up all his courage and popped the question: would TB pull him along with the tank so Booga could sand-surf? Hell, yes! Shortly after, Booga suggested that he, Sam, and TB make a family together, and that was how they remained.
Booga was a slave to TB, adoring him so much that he did all the cooking at home, and he would do anything TB asked. Even kill somebody. They were a blissfully happy couple and Booga never for one second tried to replace Loolah; he knew his place and he knew that TB loved him as much as he had done her. He could tell because TB let him drive the tank a couple of times.
Though Booga was not the sharpest tool in the shed, he sensed TB growing antsy and even disillusioned after Sam flew the coop; TB sat around in his underwear, drinking, and sighing in to the plushies. Eventually it was revealed he wanted to roam, to have more adventures, and to help people… who would give him something for his efforts. Booga was heartbroken; his dream of growing old with TB and adopting some Joeys was shattered. There was nothing for it: he offered up the recipe for wacky-backy if only TB would not run away. TB took it, but said he had to go wandering anyway, and promised that one day, he would come back.
Booga shed great big tears, howled, locked himself in the tank, and ate all the munchies. But in the end, he said his farewell to his only love and promised he’d always be waiting at home for him.
And Booga still waits in their little shack. Waiting and watching the shifting tides of sand. Praying through dance for rain and for TB’s safe return. When he smokes, he tastes TB, and when he gets the munchies, nothing satisfies the way TB would. He waits patiently with the plushie he made to look like TB, and he loves at a distance.
In modern verses, the tragic tale of Booga and TB is not altogether different (though here is a man and they met when he tried to steal some of TB’s underwear while they were both in using the laundromat palace), and it still rivals that of Romeo and Juliet. Booga (or Bill Tennison, as it says on his birth cert) waits, and is a successful toy designer in LA, keeping in touch with Sam, whom he looks out for and provides marijuana to now that TB isn’t around to do it anymore. He’s usually found moping when not working, heaving sighs at young lovers in the street.
