How dare planner season have the audacity to drag me down with it. This is the stupidest thing for me to be stressed about considering I don’t plan and already have plenty of notebooks,

Ok I’m still agonizing about wanting to get a sterling ink planner or notebook so please enjoy (or not) this breakdown of my current system and the debate I’m having with myself re: what to purchase—under the cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My current every day carry setup includes:
Paper republic A5 portfolio (note: too narrow to fit proper A5 comfortably, but perfect for moleskines)
Inside portfolio: blue moleskine for creative writing
Red moleskine for journal writing
Slipped into portfolio pocket: Log Book (where I keep track of what I did daily, monthly overview of events, monthly overview habit tracking, tracking when I water my plants, grocery and to-do lists) this is just made from maruman loose leaf paper I cut, stapled, and rounded the corners on
On top of the portfolio: A6 plain midori Mess Book (where I put anything and everything, doodles, stuff on the go, etc. it’s a mess)
Not in the everyday carry setup I have, at my desk:
A commonplace book
An ink notebook where I swatch, try mixes, do currently inked, keep track or purchases, and do transcription stuff.
Current issues with my system:
Main issue is that I got into fountain pens right after buying the portfolio and the moleskines.
The moleskines are not fountain pen friendly (the creative writing one is somewhat, but that’s the one I use the least frequently). This is partially why I bought the ink notebook, and entirely why I bought the midori mess book. Its main purpose is giving me a casual use book where I can use my fountain pens.
The portfolio doesn’t comfortably fit A5
I don’t want to abandon my moleskines 1/4 way through
I don’t want to abandon my portfolio at all
What I want, within the boundaries of not wanting to abandon any of my books, but feeling the itch to try out a sterling ink notebook or planner:
Something that can be my log book and my mess book at the same time. I make my log books every other month approximately and I’ll def be done my mess book by the new year, so I wouldn’t have to abandon them to replace them. They are similar in size, so I could easily combine them.
An A6 common planner would make most sense: log my days in the weekly pages, habit track in the quarterly sections, use the blank pages as mess book.
Issues that have me worried:
I want the horizontal weekly layout, but I like the two page spread like in the passport size. But passport is too small for the mess book and in A6 horizontal they cram all 7 days on one page, which is way too small.
Solution to this could be to get the vertical one and use it horizontally. This gives slightly more space. Still a bit worried because my current log book is just blank grid space, so I write as much or as little as I need and just draw a line between days
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Horizontal passport | horizontal A6 | vertical A6)
So the solution, if I decide that even the vertical version is potentially not enough space to log my days, is to just get the A6 notebook instead of the planner, and make my monthly overview spreads myself like I’m doing currently. Log my days from one end, do the mess book from the other.
I’m just a little lost and a little frustrated hat I wound up committing to journals that aren’t fountain pen friendly right before I got into fountain pens.
But even if I were to finish my moleskines and could replace them with a bigger planner, so I could log my day comfortably in the weekly section, and use the dailies for journaling I don’t know what I would do. This portfolio is just slightly too narrow for A5, and if I went with the B6, it would fit perfectly in width but have an awkward amount of empty space in length.
One thing I could do is get a compact B6 and keep the creative writing journal so at least one of the books would fill in the height of the portfolio. In this scenario, the B6 planner would be for log book and journal. And then I guess I could either get an A6 notebook from Sterling ink or another Midori for my mess book. But this scenario involves finishing my moleskine journal by the new year, or soon after I guess.
(Edit: the B6 horizontal only exists in full year. Don’t know if that would fit on top of the moleskine. So i would have to do B6 vertical 🥲)
asdfgghjkfkwfoemrnw what a mess

Do you know if the paper in your journals is fountain pen friendly?

I'm thinking that instead of getting a blank journal that I turn into a planner, that next year I might get a Classic planner. I love doing little designs and spreads but it also sometimes takes too much out of me to do them, so if I had one where the days and such are already outlined I could just do cute designs around them.
It will be interesting trying to find a planner that is 1) fountain pen friendly and 2) has a weekly planner And an area for journalling. If anyone has suggestions feel free to send them!

@redlegend || Ask
"Hmm?"
Rui didn't expect the other's reaction to be quite so fast and well-rehearsed. Like a path well-traveled, it seems the other was quite used to this rodeo. And fortunately, it wasn't as though Rui needed to understand signing to grasp what the other was trying to convey here. She watched his gestures and looked back to the man, offering a friendly nod.
"Yeah, one sec."
She crouched down to set her pack on the ground to look for an appropriate utensil for the other. It took a few seconds, but eventually Rui produced a fountain pen and her journal of notes on Shadow Pokémon. She swiftly flipped to a blank page, about three quarters into the book, and offered both of these items to the other.
Tumblr media
"Here you go! I just saw that you were overseeing some Pokémon and, well- I'm kind of newer at all of this, so I wondered if I could nab some advice, or something like that. Oh! Sorry- My name's Rui, by the way."

what do ur moots remind you of?! (ex. places, color, song, etc)
ooh thanks for the ask anon!
@vizstars reminds me of the song ‘flight of the stars’ by zayn bc of the name and also it’s a good song and viz is a good writer. i also get lots of blues and greys from viz’s vlog but that could just be the amazing theme lol and the word ‘stars’
@skz-minchan-enthusiast reminds me of the color yellow and new york city! jenny is so positive and kind like the color yellow, and is also so caring such a sunshine. nyc bc she’s so positive and nyc is the definition of dreams and opportunities and positivity.
@cha3w0n-hearts reminds me of the color pink and canada. pink bc deni’s so lively and has had pink on her themes. canada bc she’s so kind and friendly and i feel like canada is usa 2.0 in the sense that we were founded to welcome people both fleeing persecution and those who wanted to follow their dreams but politics happened so we’re not that kind to immigrants and refugees unfortunately but canada is. and deni is also so kind and friendly so I just associate her w canada? idk if that explanation makes sense but that’s my perception of canada- any canadians reading this tell me ur thoughts
@misokei makes me think of two color palettes: pastel and like that dark academia vibe. pastel bc kei is so sweet and kind and funny and her personality fits pastels. dark academia bc her writing is incredible and i can see her becoming a professional author one day, writing with a fountain pen in a leather bound journal.
@heefys makes me think of ‘polaroid love’ and the yet version photo shoot of answer. kyla is just so chill and sweet and also I’m pretty sure her theme at one point has that photo shoot? so maybe I just subconsciously associate her with that?
that’s everything for now so sorry I couldn’t get everyone in here maybe I’ll do a pt 2 one day w more of my moots

Took the Esterbrook Scribe nib for a test drive today in the sparkly new ✨ Beleza ✨ Junior, a limited edition Diamond cast fountain pen model with swirls of green, sparkling blues, and vibrant lime. Rather than filling the pen directly from a bottle, i syringe-filled the converter that came with it from one of my samples. Always so satisfying to get a full full this way.
Scribe Nib Review: The Esterbrook Scribe is a user-friendly Architect grind by J. J. Lax Pen Company that started as a Broad before transforming into this lovely print-enhancing writer. At a high angle, it writes fairly normally (with obvious feedback due to the sharpness of the grind). But when held at a low angle, those thin vertical lines and wide cross-strokes really shine, and the pen writes smooooth as butterrrrr. 🧈🤤 What a joy to write with! I penned an entire letter to a friend of mine using this (video coming soon), and the grind made my all-caps penmanship look so stylish and cool! 😎 It definitely shines in all caps writing and seems perfect for all uses — headers, regular journaling, penpaling — just a really useable size. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it, but I’ve been studying architectural handwriting, and man. This grind really enhances my practice!
Esterbrook Junior Beleza Review: The pocket sized Esterbrook Juniors are my favorite model, TBH. 🙈 They’re just so slim and cute, and they have way more shiny hardware than their larger Estie counterparts (namely, the cap band, the cap finial, and the barrel band + tail). So although they lack the inner cap seal Esties are known for, they make up for it with flash. ✨ And THIS colorway is definitely flashy. The nibs are interchangeable between Junior models (just twist and remove the entire unit + replace!), so I’m excited to swap out nib widths depending on which colorway and writing style I’m feeling. And there’s just sooo much shimmer in the resin! Turning it in the sunlight makes me happy inside. 🥹
Have you ever tried an architect nib? Do you have any questions about how it writes? Ask me anything!

The nights are tasteless without you: part 5 ~ Ari Levinson fic
Tumblr media
A/N - This is my first proper multiple chapter story which came to me while watching a Bollywood movie. It is set in Mumbai India where Ari is a professor at a university meets a person of colour - Marathi girl at the train station. There will be other Chris Evans characters as professors and Henry Cavill   characters as professors
Warning: Please read this before reading the story. 18+, smut, sex… etc
Ari was going to Andy's birthday dinner which was held at the Taj. He was nervous about meeting Andy's friends and trying to make conversation with them. He was told some of the teachers from the university would be coming.
He quickly got ready, grabbing the gift he got Andy with Maddy's help. It was a nice fountain pen for all the documents he had to sign. Ari grabbed his phone and keys hearing the taxi horn signaling his ride is here.
Arriving at the Taj, Ari was greeted by Andy who wanted to make him feel welcome. They hugged, Ari giving him his gift before walking inside.
Andy introduces him to the few teachers that have already arrived, Steve Rogers the boxing coach, Frank Adler the Philosophy professor, Syverson the mechanics professor and Clark Kent the Journalism professor. They all shook his hand, Syverson went to get Ari a beer - Kingfisher.
"Here you go Ari," Syverson said with a southern accent.
"Thanks man, what do you teach," Ari said looking at Syverson built figure and felt a little intimidated.
"I teach mechanics, showing people how to get their hands dirty," he says, winking at Ari.
"Don't mind him, he is already in the party mood," Andy said, taking Ari to meet Steve. Steve was also very built but friendly to talk to. They enjoyed a good conversation about how spicy the food was in Mumbai.
After meeting half the teachers and downing 5 bottles of beer, August and Lloyd strutted inside with sunglasses on.
"Who are they, they look like they are from the mafia," Ari said, making Steve and Andy chuckle.
"Ari, August is the one in the brown suit, he is a motor designing professor, and Lloyd in those ever so tight pants is the head of the IT department. Colin over there in the black suit is the cyber security professor, Jenson in the loud shirt is the web design professor and Ransom in the brown jacket is a coding professor," Andy said, handing Ari and Steve another beer.
Ari looked at them both and smiled, they looked intimidating but he focused his time on the few people he enjoyed talking to, which was Andy, Steve, Colin,  and Clark. Music came on and everyone was dancing, lifting Andy and throwing him up in the air.
Everyone was having fun, dancing to bhangra and Bollywood music. It was 12am, Ari was drunk out of his mind and without looking drunk called Maddy.
"Hello Ari, hello. Everything ok," she said, concerned as to why he called her at 12 in the morning.
"I really really like you Maddy," he slurred, taking a swig of his beer.
"I like you Ari, but you're drunk. Please be careful and safe, text me when you reach home. He hummed and hung up and put the phone away grabbing some beer.
It was 2am when Steve offered to drop him home as he only had two beers 4 hours ago. August and Jenson carried Ari into the back seat of the car.
"Maddy," he moaned as August tried to put the seat belt on him. The three men looked at one another and then laughed. Steve got Ari's address from Andy and was able to drive him back home.
Ari's phone kept ringing, the song mamma mia was his ringtone making Jenson sing along to it. The phone stopped ringing and then rang again making August annoyed.
August grabbed the phone out of his jacket and moaned at the candid photo of the girl calling. He pressed the answer button and said,
"Hello sweetheart," he said biting his lip,
"Who you calling sweetheart, can I speak to Ari," Maddy said annoyed.
"Sweetheart, Ari is occupied," August said, opening the camera app and taking a picture of Ari asleep. He sends it to Maddy who gasps, not liking the behavior of the guy on the phone. She hangs up and is now very worried about Ari and hopes he is safe.
Maddy keeps calling every 15 minutes to check up on Ari. August was flirting with her, making Maddy annoyed, hoping Ari is ok. The next time she calls, Jenson takes the phone and speaks to her.
"Hello," Jenson said softly, still singing a song while talking to Maddy.
"Oh you're not the idiot who spoke to me last, I didn't like the way he flirted with me. Can you please make sure Ari is ok and gets home safe, I'm worried about him, he is new in Mumbai," she said, her voice dropping a notch. Her crush for Ari was growing and maybe one day she will get to ask him out for filter coffee.
"No worries, dost, we have Mr Responsable Steve driving, and he will get Ari home safely," Jenson said, smiling at Steve.
"Yes, ma'am, I will take care of your husband," Steve says as the call is on speaker. Before answering, the call got cut, and she wondered why Ari had told them they were married.

Fazbear Estate's William Afton has kept many journals over the course of his long life. He started writing them when he was about nine years old, then continued into his teens, then well into his adult years. Even now, despite having a mild case of arthritis, he continues to write in a leatherbound journal.
William is a stationery snob and has spent thousands of dollars on high-quality fountain pens, purple ink, and journals with leather covers and high-quality paper. He also illustrates his journals, so he has special inking pens, drawing pencils, and watercolors.
William is actually a very talented artist in this AU, detailed and expressive. The qualities of each of his drawings heavily reflect his state of mind at the times he drew them. He draws his ideas for animatronic characters. He draws portraits of people he knows. He draws pictures of himself fulfilling various fantasies he has. These illustrations cover a wide range emotionally.
That being said, William has been known to make some very creepy drawings. Nothing gorey, violent, or offensive in any way. Just... drawings of animal characters that are just a WEE bit too detailed and exaggerated, have way too many teeth, and have pitch-black eyes with white pupils. Whenever one of these creatures appears in his journal, he is in a dark place mentally. Fortunately for William, something or someone always manages to come to his rescue before he has the chance to snap.
It's like the universe purposefully goes out of its way to keep William from fulfilling his destiny to become a murderer, but I digress.
William has quite a few journals by now. Most of them are in a bookshelf, but the rest are pretty much scattered all over the house he and Henry currently share. I can easily see finding and reading them all as the setup for a computer game. I don't think said game would be kid-friendly though, considering certain entries he's written and illustrated about his romantic partners over the years...
Ahem. Anyway.
Vanessa may or may not have been snooping through William's journals during her time taking care of him. It's provided her with valuable insight into taking care of him and making sure he's happy. Still, if he ever found out what she was doing, he'd be PISSED.

i have read your tags about why fountain pens are better and i agree. unfortunately i have not been using them because stuck with a bunch of moleskine notebooks (they were gifts) and the ink bleeds through the pages :( so i just wanted to ask what kind of notebooks do you use
I almost exclusively use Rhodia brand notebooks and notepads! All their paper is "fountain pen friendly" (i.e. no bleeding) and comes in a variety of different sizes (A4-A7), "types" (i.e. lined, graph, dotted, blank, etc.), bindings (glue, sewn, spiral, etc. in paper, soft, and hardcover), as well as two different paper colors (cream and white), so it's easy to find a notebook/notepad that suits whatever project I'm working on! (I'm also one of those people that keeps a daily journal, and for that I especially like the Rhodia goalbook [bc it has a printed index section and printed page numbers], although I am thinking about switching to a Leuchtturm1917 dot grid hardcover for my next journal [it also has printed page numbers]...)
I'm also partial to Clairefontaine brand notebooks (which don't have quite the same variety as Rhodia, but often come in more fun color/pattern combinations for their covers and have the same paper quality), as well as Fabriano brand notebooks/notepads (their EcoQua line is especially economical! And while it does have some "show through," I've never had any problems with bleed through.) If you're looking for a non-European brand, I highly recommend Midori (which does not have "fun covers" but does have truly excellent fountain pen friendly paper and a lot of variety of "types" (sketch, blank, dot grid, lined, etc.) as well as many fun "daily journal" type notebooks.
As far as specific paper types go I am extremely partial to loose leaf Tomoe River paper, which is onion-skin thin but has absolutely no bleed through and hardly any show through for its thinness. I love it for letter writing because it is lightweight and so silky smooth. It also really lets fountain pen ink show off its shading and coloration.
Because I live the USA, my preferred online fountain pen & ink and fountain pen friendly paper shop is JetPens.com, which I truly cannot recommend highly enough for their immense selection and thorough testing and information!!
Thanks for asking :)
(also: I really feel you with the Moleskine plight -- their paper quality really went downhill about 5-10 years ago when they started exclusively manufacturing overseas :( they're otherwise such fun little notebooks)

Hello, may I ask what notebooks you usually use?
I'm currently using a Midori MD A5 grid ruled journal. I'm a big fan of midori paper. However, the first three posts in the "week in my journal" posts I was using a Nakabayashi Logical Prime. Since I use fountain pens, I prefer to use fountain pen friendly paper. :)

The thought right now is an N2 or a B6 slim for the day log (which I would keep over the portfolio, where my current mess book lives), and a B5 for my journal.
If I average a page a day in my current journal I’ll be done by the new year. I think that’s a realistic goalpost. The mess book would go defunct and essentially get absorbed into the journal. The mess book only exists right now because of the limitations of my journal (not fp friendly, and lined) and if I manage to not be as anal about what I’m “supposed” to do in my journal, it won’t be needed anymore. If I find I do miss having an A6 mess book that I can chuck into my purse, then I can get another midori or something, it’s been treating me well. But I think that should wait until I see whether having a fountain pen friendly journal scratches that itch.
Current questions are
B6 slim or N2?
Usually I would go for something not so narrow but my day log is currently passport size, and the daily entries are short and sometimes in bullet point. So narrower is sort of more comfortable so each entry can be a couple inches long. Actually B6 slim is only available in colours I don’t really like so I’ll probably choose N2 then.
Will my current mess book last me until the new year?
Definitely not. But I kinda don’t want to buy a sterling ink notebook for my mess book tbh. I think midori is a better fit. Also if the day log lives over my portfolio my mess book will have nowhere to live
And what do I do to scratch the itch between now(/when I finish the mess book) and the new year when I can start my new journal (assuming I write a page a day)
????? Bro I wish I knew. Figure something out.
Now that I’ve figured it out I want to buy them now but I’m leaving the country for a week in 10 days and worried it’ll arrive when I’m not home. I just don’t feel like making a new day log and I’ve just got a couple pages left so it would be great to just switch now 😫

Piston Fill Pens
Tumblr media
Introduction
Piston fill pens are more than just writing instruments—they're crafted tools that offer a unique and satisfying experience for both seasoned pen enthusiasts and casual users alike. From their precision engineering to their elegant design, piston fill pens stand out in the world of writing instruments. In this article, we'll delve into what makes piston fill pens special, how they are used, and why they make excellent choices for personal use, business settings, and as thoughtful gifts for various occasions.
What is a Piston Fill Pen?
A piston fill pen is a type of fountain pen that utilizes a piston mechanism to draw ink directly into an internal reservoir from an ink bottle. Unlike cartridge-based fountain pens that rely on disposable ink cartridges, piston fill pens allow users to refill them with a wide range of ink colors and types, offering flexibility and customization in writing experience. The mechanism involves twisting or moving a knob at the end of the pen barrel, which operates a piston inside to create suction and draw ink into the pen.
How Piston Fill Pens Are Used
Precision and Control
One of the defining features of piston fill pens is their ability to deliver a smooth, controlled writing experience. The mechanism allows for precise ink flow regulation, which is particularly valued by artists, calligraphers, and writers who appreciate consistency in their work.
Refillable Convenience
Piston fill pens eliminate the need for disposable ink cartridges, making them environmentally friendly and cost-effective over time. Users can choose from a wide array of fountain pen inks, ranging from standard colors to specialty inks with unique properties like shimmer or sheen.
Elegance and Craftsmanship
Beyond functionality, piston fill pens are often prized for their aesthetic appeal and craftsmanship. They come in a variety of materials, including sleek metals, luxurious resins, and even handcrafted celluloids. These materials not only enhance the pen's appearance but also contribute to its durability and tactile feel.
Why Piston Fill Pens Are Great to Have
Personal Use
For individuals who enjoy writing by hand, whether journaling, taking notes, or simply expressing creativity through penmanship, a piston fill pen offers a pleasurable and customizable writing experience. The ability to choose from a wide range of ink colors and styles adds a personal touch to every stroke.
Business Settings
In professional environments, the sophistication of a piston fill pen can make a lasting impression during meetings, presentations, and signings. Its smooth writing and elegant design reflect attention to detail and a commitment to quality, making it a symbol of professionalism and refinement.
Gift-Giving
Piston fill pens are timeless gifts suitable for various occasions, including birthdays, weddings, graduations, and promotions. They can be personalized with engraving or paired with specialty inks to match the recipient's preferences or commemorate significant milestones. As heirloom-quality items, piston fill pens often hold sentimental value and are cherished for years to come.
Conclusion
In conclusion, piston fill pens represent more than just writing instruments; they embody craftsmanship, elegance, and a commitment to the art of writing. Whether used for personal enjoyment, professional endeavors, or as meaningful gifts, piston fill pens offer a blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal that appeals to discerning individuals. Their refillable nature and ability to accommodate various inks ensure versatility and sustainability in both usage and appreciation. For anyone seeking to elevate their writing experience or offer a thoughtful gift that stands the test of time, a piston fill pen remains a steadfast choice, combining tradition with modern ingenuity in the world of fine writing instruments.

Stationery Obsessed: Trends and Tips for Collectors
Tumblr media
In a world increasingly dominated by digital communication, there exists a niche community that remains steadfastly devoted to the tactile pleasure and aesthetic allure of stationery. Stationery collectors, often referred to as stationery enthusiasts, find joy in the artistry of writing tools, the texture of fine paper, and the allure of unique designs. This article explores the burgeoning trends and offers tips for those captivated by the world of stationery.
Trends in Stationery Collecting
The landscape of stationery collecting has evolved significantly in recent years, driven by a resurgence of interest in handmade and artisanal products. Customization and personalization are key trends, with collectors seeking bespoke notebooks, handcrafted pens, and unique paper designs. Social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest have become virtual showcases where enthusiasts share their curated collections and discoveries, fostering a sense of community and inspiration.
Furthermore, sustainability has become a central concern among stationery collectors. Eco-friendly materials, such as recycled paper and biodegradable inks, are increasingly popular choices. Brands are responding to this demand by offering products that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally responsible, catering to the ethical considerations of modern consumers.
Another notable trend is the fusion of technology with traditional stationery. Smart pens that digitize handwritten notes, notebooks that sync with cloud storage, and apps designed for digital bullet journaling are examples of how technology is augmenting the stationery experience without compromising its essence. This blending of analog and digital functionalities appeals to collectors who appreciate both the tangible and the convenient aspects of writing and organizing.
Tips for Stationery Collectors
For those eager to delve deeper into the world of stationery collecting, here are some practical tips to enhance your journey:
Define Your Preferences: Determine what aspects of stationery captivate you the most—whether it's fountain pens, vintage paper, decorative washi tapes, or specialized notebooks. Understanding your preferences will guide your collection and prevent overwhelming choices.
Explore Artisanal and Independent Brands: Look beyond mainstream stationery stores to discover hidden gems offered by independent artisans and boutique brands. These often provide unique, handmade items that add character and exclusivity to your collection.
Join Online Communities: Engage with fellow enthusiasts through online forums, social media groups, and blogs dedicated to stationery collecting. These communities offer valuable insights, recommendations, and opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals who share your passion.
Attend Stationery Fairs and Expos: Take advantage of local or international stationery fairs and expos where you can explore a wide array of products, meet creators, and stay informed about the latest trends and innovations in the industry.
Experiment and Personalize: Stationery collecting is a creative pursuit—don't hesitate to experiment with different styles, colors, and functionalities. Personalize your collection to reflect your unique tastes and preferences, making it a true reflection of your personality.
Care and Maintenance: Properly care for your stationery items to ensure longevity and optimal performance. Follow manufacturer's guidelines for cleaning pens, storing paper, and preserving delicate materials like handmade notebooks or specialty inks.
In conclusion, stationery collecting is not merely a hobby but a passion that connects individuals through shared appreciation for craftsmanship, creativity, and self-expression. Whether you're drawn to the elegance of a vintage fountain pen, the texture of handmade paper, or the versatility of a customizable planner, embracing the art of stationery allows you to celebrate both tradition and innovation in a world that continues to evolve.
Embrace the trends, explore new avenues, and curate a collection that inspires and delights—a testament to the enduring allure of stationery in an increasingly digital age.
