#foundinthearchive: On the right is a painting of pomegranates that Bayramov himself painted in 2005. On the left is the same scene, years later, that his daughter Bahar created. The stylistic influence is uncanny! #likefatherlikedaughter #живопись #DBAFarchive #DBAFcollection #ДурдыБайрамов

Look What We Found In The Archives
Today we found an issue of Women’s Times, a newsletter published by the Friends of the Cornell Eleven. The Cornell Eleven were a group of present and former female faculty members who sued Cornell in 1978 for sex discrimination in hiring and evaluation procedures.
This item was found during a year-long survey that the Kheel Center is conducting to better document and describe their collections.

Happy Birthday, Einstein! 🎂
Happy Birthday Albert Einstein! This is a 1953 letter from Einstein to William Frauenglass that was later quoted in the New York Times! Einstein’s letter supports Frauenglass’s refusal to testify and calls on others to do the same in the face of McCarthy-era fearmongering.

In lieu of the current SAG-AFTRA Strike, check out what we found in the archives!
#FoundInTheArchives: A photograph of a young Sir Ian McKellen (@ianmckellen) engaged in an action with the theatre performers union, the Actors’ Equity Association, in New York City in 1981. The world-renowned actor was living in New York City and performing nightly in his Tony Award winning role as Salieri in the play “Amadeus.” He was also devoting his time to picketing on the streets of New York as part of the Actors’ Equity campaign “Save Our Theaters.”
The campaign was organized by Joseph Papp, local New Yorkers, and Actors’ Equity to try and halt the destruction of historic theaters on 46th Street in Manhattan’s Theater District. The action was, sadly, unsuccessful and the theaters were demolished in 1982 to make way for the Marriott Marquis Hotel. However, the action did rally support to preserve the rest of the Theater District, which is now a protected, landmarked neighborhood.
Post contributed by our technical services archivist, Elizabeth Parker!
