This contemporary representational piece encompass both past and present of Puerto Rico's taino culture. ▪︎"The myth is the origin. It is born from the human experience of what is sacred. It narrates the creation of the universe, the rise of the gods, the appearance of all of the beings that inhabit existence." (The Taínos: Mythology and Religious Beliefs)  Atabey  is the supreme goddess of the Taínos, one of two supreme deities in the their religion. She was worshipped as a goddess of fresh water and fertility; she is the female entity who represents the Earth Spirit and the Spirit of all horizontal water, lakes, streams, the sea, and the marine tides. Do you have a painting process? ▪︎The steps in the creation of a painting vary from artist to artist and develop over time. Many artists lightly sketch out the composition  on a canvas, then block in the main areas of color across the canvas. Some artists work in layers and others work alla prima (all at once) to complete their painting in a single session. Artists often do studies (small versions) or multiple sketches for a painting. There is no right or wrong approach; ultimately you must find what works best for you.
