March 6 - Ft Lauderdale to Lake Worth (Palm Beach) 45.8 miles.
Made the 9:00 opening of the 17th Street Bridge
Sharp turn in the channel after the bridge. Tug and tanker inbound
Today was another windless day. The sun was out for most of the transit so the cockpit was quite warm. We had the center window of the dodger open so the little wind that there was (most of it made by Molly D’s forward movement) offered some cooling relief. The water up the coast took on varying hues of light blue. So pretty! We caught sight several times of schools of flying fish “flying” just off Molly D’s starboard beam. Not something that is seen every day. Molly D had to be mindful of the dredging barge on the port side of the Lake Worth inlet. The CG and the barge operator had broadcast several times on CH 16 the position of the barge and that the inlet was a no wake zone. There were many deaf people operating boats today!
Entrance to Lake Worth inlet. The dredging operation was on the opposite side of the inlet.
Edgartown and Newport harbors both have anchored water docks. Boaters are free to tie up to these docks and fill their water tank. Lake Worth, however, has a pull up fuel barge. The barge is small and has the tiniest tug attached to its stern. The price of the diesel was $4.25/ gallon. What a great idea! I’m assuming that the fuel can’t be “old”, as the barge doesn’t look as if it could hold a ton of fuel. The barge’s name: Pickle Rick.
Pickle Rick fuel barge. Picture not the best as it was taken into the sun.
There are several anchorage areas in Lake Worth to choose from. Our first time anchoring here we inadvertently anchored in a spoils zone (of which there are several along with a few cable areas). During that night our anchor dragged through the spoils and we were awakened by a tapping on the hull. Molly D was nearly up against the bow of a sailboat behind us. The boat’s owners had seen the disaster unfold and were fending off Molly D. Thankful for that! So in the middle of the dark night we had to reanchor Molly D. Needless to say, David now anchors in the least desirable anchoring zone (least desirable only because it is 1.6 miles from the inlet). Great holding!
Molly D is anchored off the Palm Beach Country Club
Molly D is facing the Palm Beach Country Club
Tomorrow Molly D has a long transit of a bit over 60 miles to Vero Beach. She will travel on the outside until Fort Pierce. Ft Pierce is the closest inlet to Vero Beach, so the rest of our day’s travel will be on the ICW. There will be one opening and two fixed bridges on our route. Depending on the tide, the two fixed bridges may present a marginal height clearances. Hoping for half tide or lower. By the way, why do bridges report their clearances as 65’ at mean high water when in many cases it isn’t true?

Winslow Homer: Inspired by the Adirondacks
Recently, I heard a segment on NCPR about the Trout Lake artist Jeff Davis, who is in Florida during the pandemic lockdown. More accustomed to working in oils, he has taken up watercolors once again, a much trickier medium to manipulate and control. My mind immediately went to a pair of watercolors in The Hyde’s collection by an artist who also worked in both the Adirondacks and Florida: Winslow Homer (1836-1910).
One of the country’s greatest artists, Homer worked in a variety of media. On leaving school, he apprenticed for a commercial printer in Boston, making images for sheet music and commercials. During the Civil War, he became famous for his wood engravings published in Harper’s Weekly that illustrated accounts of the conflict. We have seen in a number of recent exhibitions at The Hyde that commercial and illustrative work was the prelude to careers for several American artists including John Sloan (1871-1951) and Dox Thrash (1893-1965).
Homer first visited the Adirondacks in 1870. He may have come in response to the run-away best selling travel book Adventures in the Wilderness; or, Camp-Life in the Adirondacks (1869) by William H. H. Murray. Residents of East Coast cities responded to the book’s call to the wild in droves. But there had also been a tradition among American artists, at least half a century old, of traveling through the region, capturing its natural beauty, and lauding its unspoilt wilderness as a national attribute. My predecessor as Hyde curator, Erin Coe, addressed the topic in her 2005 Hyde exhibition and its accompanying catalogue, Painting Lake George, 1774-1900.
Thomas Cole (American, born England, 1801-1848), View on Lake George, 1826, oil on wood panel (25 13/16 × 32 3/16 × 3 7/16 in.) Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College: Purchased through a gift from Evelyn A. and William B. Jaffe, Class of 1964H, by exchange, 2017.11. © 2020 Trustees of Dartmouth College.
Winslow Homer (American, 1836-1910), Camping Out in the Adirondack Mountains, 1874, wood Engraving (9 11/16 x 15 1/2 in.) The Hyde Collection, Glens Falls, New York, Bequest of Charlotte P. Hyde, 1972.21. Photo credit: mclaughlinphoto.com.
Homer was a great outdoors man. He loved the comradery of camping trips. They are the subject of many of his prints and paintings, including Camping Out in the Adirondack Mountains (1874). Homer was also enamored of the lore around the year-round residents who acted as guides for city dwellers over the summer. Adirondack artist and author William James Stillman (1828-1901) described the guides as “rude men of the woods, rough and illiterate, but with all their physical faculties at a maximum acuteness, senses on the alert and keen as no townsman could comprehend.” They became heroic figures in the many books published about the region. Their principal characteristics were that they were extremely strong, dexterous with an axe, and able to build a lean-to within a few hours, or a hut in days. They were skilled at hunting, fishing, and tracking bear, cooking on an open fire, and story-telling around the campfire at night. Homer included Adirondack guides in many of his images of the region, including The Hyde’s little oil sketch of a commanding, statuesque figure executed during that first 1870 trip.

On that occasion, Homer traveled in the company of fellow artist and keen angler Eliphalet Terry (1826-1896). They both produced fishing images on that trip. Angling was a major sport at the time and fishing images were popular. It was a passion that Homer shared with his brother Charles, and one that features in many of Homer’s paintings from the period, such as Crossing the Pasture (1872), in which two boys (Charles and the younger Winslow?) strike out across a field to go fishing.

The adult brothers became members of the North Woods Club, famous for its fishing, near Minerva in the Keene Valley in 1888. Between 1889 and 1902, Homer produced a series of angling watercolors that brought him popular and critical acclaim. The Hyde possesses two of these.
Winslow Homer, (American, 1836 - 1910), A Good One, Adirondacks, 1889, watercolor (21 x 28 1/4 x 1 1/4 in.), The Hyde Collection, Glens Falls, New York, Gift of Charlotte Pruyn Hyde, 1971.68. Photo credit: mclaughlinphoto.com.
The first is A Good One, Adirondacks, painted in 1889. That year, he stayed at the club twice: for nine weeks in late spring and early summer; and for seven in the fall. The Hyde’s watercolor was presumably painted in the autumn, as there is a hint of golden foliage in a tree along the water’s edge while others are still in full deep-green leafage. We see a fisherman in a boat; a fish caught upon his line that is bend back on itself in a dramatic curve; and his free hand outstretched holding a net, ready to scoop up his prize. In early 1890, Homer sent thirty-three of these watercolors to his dealer, Gustave Reichard, in New York. He wrote the latter suggesting that he advertise the exhibition specifically to anglers. Homer recognized the appeal the images would have for aficionados of the sport, and he was right. A New York Times reviewer wrote, “It is his trout-fishing pieces…that are richest in color and done with the greatest pleasure.” Thirty works were sold, each for $125.
At the very time he was enjoying such commercial success in New York, Homer was on another angling expedition. This time, to Florida. The Hyde’s second watercolor dates to this trip. Winslow had first traveled to Florida four years earlier, encouraged by his uncle, Arthur Benson, who was himself an avid angler. The state was popular among fly fisherman for its inland waterways and abundance of sea trout, channel bass, mangrove snapper, and largemouth black bass. Homer stayed near Enterprise on the St. John’s River. The tropical setting, the Spanish moss hanging from the trees, and the light and color reflected in the water evidently captivated the artist as much as the sport itself.
Winslow Homer, (American, 1836 - 1910), St. Johns River, Florida, 1890, watercolor (23 1/2 x 28 3/4 x 1 in.) The Hyde Collection, Glens Falls, New York, Gift of Charlotte Pruyn Hyde, 1971.68. Photography by Joseph Levy.
There was a third place to which Homer traveled to fish: Quebec. He and his brother Charles owned a camp there. In many ways, Quebec provided the true call of the wild against which the Homer brothers could pitch their skills and manliness. The Adirondacks, for all the bravado of the guidebooks, was a wilderness tamed. It was a landscape largely denuded of its first growth forests; its mountains ravaged by ore mining and smelting; and its rivers depleted of native fish. Indeed, the North Woods Club had to stock the local rivers. Over the course of six weeks in the summer of 1891, Homer caught a total of six fish. It was in the untamed wilderness of Quebec that Homer could truly experience the thrill of landing a mature and wily native fish. He captured that excitement in his Canadian watercolors and conveyed it through the vigorous handling of the medium. Many depict men in canoes navigating turbulent waters. In these works, Nature is the more powerful and primal force, always on the verge of overturning anglers in their boats.
Winslow Homer (American, 1836-1910), Shooting the Rapids, 1902, watercolor over graphite on off-white, thick, moderately textured wove paper with watermark (13 15/16 x 21 13/16 in.) Brooklyn Museum, Museum Collection Fund and Special Subscription, 11.537 (Photo: Brooklyn Museum, 11.537_PS1.jpg).
In that The Hyde owns watercolors executed by Homer in two of the three locations at which he produced powerful images of a sport he loved—images invested with not only his love of that sport and with Nature herself, but also with an authenticity that appealed to contemporary collectors—you will not be surprised to learn that acquiring a Quebec watercolor is high on my wish list for future acquisitions. Please remember this post at Christmas!

Things to see and do in Kenya
Things to see and do in Kenya
Climb Mount Kenya At 4,986m (16,358ft) above sea level, this extinct volcano is the second-highest mountain in Africa. The Mountain Club of Kenya runs mountain huts and publishes guides for climbers. Even if you don't climb to the upper slopes, it is worth spending time on the forested lower slopes below the ice-capped peak, where interesting wildlife abounds. Climb Mount Longonot This distinctive volcano, which last erupted in the 1860s, rises dramatically above the Rift Valley floor, and its slopes can be ascended in around 90 minutes. Allow another hour for the descent, and 3-4 hours if you want to walk around the rim of the perfect volcanic crater. Day trip to Nairobi National Park Nairobi National Park, only 8km (5 miles) from the city centre, is Kenya's oldest national park. Today, it still looks much as it did in the early photographs – wild, undulating pasture – and supports most of East Africa’s best known wildlife, including lion, rhino, giraffe, buffalo and zebra (but not elephant). Experience the magic of the Masai Mara Kenya's most popular game park is named after the Maasai tribe, who migrated south from the Nile Valley in the 17th century. A northern extension to Tanzania’s Serengeti Plains, it is one of the best places in Africa for seeing lion, cheetah and leopard, but is most famous for the annual wildebeest migration and dramatic crossing of the crocodile-infested Mara River. Explore Kenya’s coral coast Visitors can choose between scuba-diving, snorkelling, sailing, water-skiing, swimming or surfing along Kenya's coral coast. The most popular resorts near Mombasa include Bamburi, Kikambala, Kilifi, Malindi, Nyali and the 10km- (6-mile) long, dazzlingly white Diani Beach. Another good base for watersports is the Rift Valley lake of Naivasha, about 1.5 hours drive from Nairobi. Explore Lamu Town Set on a picturesque offshore island close to the Somali border, Lamu is a charming old Swahili city and UNESCO World Heritage Site with many historic mosques and fine old Arab houses replete with impressive carved wooden doors. Highlights of the town include the Lamu Museum, the Swahili House Museum and the Fortress. Go twitching in Kakamega Forest The only rainforest in Kenya, this lovely spot near the Ugandan border is arguably the prime birdwatching site in the country, thanks to the presence of several dozen forest species found nowhere else in the country. For non-birders, the shady forest paths and plentiful monkeys still offer lots of charm. Go wild at Lake Nakuru National Park Boasting a dramatic setting in the Rift Valley, this park is dominated by a lake whose edges are frequently home to hundreds of thousands of pink flamingos. It is also one of Kenya's best rhino sanctuaries, supporting high concentrations of both black and white rhino, and you may spot a leopard in the giant yellowwood acacia trees. Help save the elephants at Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage Watch baby elephants play at the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, an important sanctuary where orphaned elephants are hand-reared before being released back into the wild. Bordering Nairobi National Park, the sanctuary is also home to several orphaned rhinos, and is an important player in the fight against poaching. Jump aboard a dhow Spend an evening afloat on a romantic dhow (traditional Arab sailing boat), feasting on delicious seafood and watching the moon rise over Mombasa's old harbour. Lunchtime or dinner cruises are available on these beautiful floating restaurants, and some even have space for dancing on the deck. Marvel at Mombasa Enjoy this coastal city's Swahili flavour in the Old Town, with its narrow, crowded streets; watch the sailing dhows in the Old Harbour and catch the sound and light show at Fort Jesus, which was built by the Portuguese in the 17th century and is now a museum. Pay a visit to Laikipia Plateau Discover a recent conservation success where former farmland has been opened up as game sanctuaries and stocked with big game including the Big Five: elephant, buffalo, lion, rhino and leopard. The old farmsteads here have been converted into delightful, luxurious accommodations. This vast wilderness area remains largely underexplored by tourists. Quaff high tea at Elsamere Situated on the shores of Lake Naivasha, the former home of Joy Adamson (of Born Free fame) is now a museum and conservation research centre. Set in grounds teeming with birds – and home to a group of handsome colobus monkeys – Elsamere also serves excellent high tea. Shop until you drop in Mombasa Biashara Street is a great place to buy traditional kikoy and khanga clothing. Makupa Market, off Mwembe Tayari, is the main city market. Serious souvenir shoppers should also head for the Bombolulu Workshops and Cultural Village, where disabled men and women produce high-quality leatherwork, jewellery and other crafts. Stay a night at Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary Situated a short distance from the main highway between Nairobi and Mombasa, this small private sanctuary bordering the vast Tsavo National Park doubles as a luxury hotel and well-positioned hide, overlooking a salt lick and a waterhole that frequently attracts aggregations of a hundred or more elephants. Step into the land of giants at Amboseli National Park The 392sq km (151sq mile) Amboseli National Park lies at the base of snow-capped Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. Wildlife includes lion, cheetah, wildebeest, hippo and gazelle, but the park is most famous for the large herds of elephant attracted by the perennial swamps. Bird-watching is popular, and visitors can learn about the local Maasai people through homestead visits. Take the road less travelled to Lake Turkana In the barren northern reaches of Kenya, Lake Turkana is a strange and beautiful oasis, known to locals as the Jade Sea due to its size and striking colour. The lake provides great fishing, while its islands have healthy crocodile and hippo populations. The semi-nomadic Turkana tribe are just as interesting as the lake itself. Take to the skies in a hot air balloon Float over great herds of game in the Masai Mara National Reserve. Hour-long excursions set off at dawn and end with champagne breakfasts. Almost all the lodges in the reserve offer this experience, which gives ballooners the chance to see the wildebeest migration from the air between July and September. Tour Nairobi's museums Browse the ethnographic and archaeological exhibits of the National Museum, which lies within walking distance of the city centre. And then head out to the suburban Karen Blixen Museum, which occupies the farmhouse made famous by the nominal author's book, Out of Africa. The Nairobi Railway Museum also covers an important chapter of the city’s history. 7 Places To Visit in Bermuda: A Travel Guide
Bermuda is often misunderstood as being a part of the Caribbean chain of islands, but actually it’s a British Overseas Territory located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean! Because of this location, the climate is a lot milder than Bermuda’s neighbouring islands.
This archipelago is loved for its crystal clear turquoise water, pink-sand beaches, and a laid back British influence. The rich history coupled with the very best that nature has to offer makes Bermuda an eye-opening place to visit.
While its history may run deep, these days Bermuda is one of the hottest vacation spots in the world. In addition to the many museums and forts that you can visit, Bermuda also hosts world-class diving, stunning beaches, snorkeling, fishing, golfing and much more.
Here are 7 incredible places to visit when you travel to Bermuda!
Note: This post has been updated December, 2019.
1. Horseshoe Bay Beach
If you hear a local tell you they are going to the beach, they are most likely referring to Horseshoe Bay Beach located in the Southampton Parish. And while it’s certainly the most popular and therefore most visited beach, you will still be charmed by the silky pink sand that trails into the bluest ocean you’ll ever see.
There are numerous rental facilities here along with change rooms and beachside cafes. If you’re looking for calmer waters, head over to Port Royal Cove.
Other beaches worth checking out nearby are Elbow Beach, Warwick Long Bay Beach, and John Smith’s Bay which is an excellent spot for swimming and snorkeling.

2. St. George’s Island
St. George’s Island is the birthplace of Bermuda. The English claimed the settlement of Bermuda in 1609 and today it remains the longest inhabited English settlement this side of the pond.
The town itself is a marvel to walk around and you’ll be blown away by the historical architecture, which features brightly painted stones and masonry buildings. In between the buildings you’ll find narrow streets with pretty names like Featherbed Alley.
St. George’s is also home to a plethora of historical sites such as St. Peter’s church — the oldest active protestant church in the New World. This Anglican church was built in 1612 and is still in use today. You can find it on Duke of York Street.
3. George’s Island Forts
If you want to get a glimpse of how the British defended Bermuda, then the forts on St. George’s island are a must-visit. Their beauty was officially recognized by UNESCO when they were added to the list of World Heritage Sites.
One of the highlights on the island is Gates Fort which was constructed in the 1620s and offers unique views of the Atlantic Ocean. After taking in the views, head over to Alexandra Battery where you can see a little beach littered with colorful sea glass.
4. National Museum of Bermuda
Just because you came for the beach doesn’t mean you won’t be marveled by the history laying within the walls of the National Museum of Bermuda. Located at the Royal Naval Dockyard (which is another must-see sight), this is one of the architectural highlights in Bermuda.
This large complex is situated in a huge fort which is divided from the rest of the dockyard by a beautiful moat. When you cross the drawbridge, you will walk into one of the most beautiful maritime museums in the world. It hosts eight historic exhibition buildings that showcase every chapter of the island’s history.
Be prepared to be overwhelmed with artifacts from ships and battles, as well as maritime art, and exhibitions dedicated to shipbuilding, yacht racing, and whaling.

On the museum’s second floor you will find the 19th-century Commissioner’s House. Its aged furniture and the exhibits about Bermuda’s military history will make you feel as though you’re on the set of an old war film.
When you’re done, don’t just wander out the gate. Take your time to explore the 16-acre grounds and enjoy the panoramic views of the island. For those travelling with children, there’s a museum playground and playhouse to keep the little ones entertained.
The museum is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and there is an entrance fee of $15. Click here for more details.
5. Crystal Caves
Many people forget that in addition to its history and exotic beaches, Bermuda’s limestone caves have been gaining the attention of visitors since as early as the 17th century. These days, modern infrastructure has been built allowing you to descend 120 feet below sea level to see the eye-popping crystal formations and a subterranean lake.
You can take an informative tour and will be guided across the bridge which crosses a lake. You’ll be wowed by the surrounding stalactites and crystallized soda straws every step of the way.
A new age lighting system has also been built to enhance the beauty of the formations, this truly is a remarkable place to visit and learn about nature. This is definitely one of the top places to visit in Bermuda.
The caves are a little pricier to get in ($22 USD) but well worth it. They are open daily from 9am to 5pm.
6. Capital City of Hamilton
The capital of Bermuda overlooks a stunning harbor and is the commercial, cultural, and historical epicenter of the archipelago. From the multi-colored buildings that pave the streets, to the wide range of high-end shopping, culinary delights, and art galleries, there’s something in the city for every type of traveller.
Most of the action takes place on Front Street where you will see troves of cruise ships parked amongst other tour boats and ferries that ship tourists back and forth between the islands.
A lot of the cultural highlights can be found in Hamilton. Here you’ll find historically significant buildings that go back as far as the 1800s, including the Bermuda Cabinet Building, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, St. Paul’s Church, and the Anglican Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity.
Even if you only have time to swing by for a quick photo, it’s worth the visit just to catch a glimpse of the fascinating architecture that appears to be frozen in time.
Other highlights worth mentioning are the Bermuda National Gallery which showcases many styles of artwork on a rotating basis as well as the Bermuda House of Assembly which is known as the oldest Parliament in the Western Hemisphere.
Make sure you get travel insurance before embarking on a trip to Bermuda, it’s the one thing you should always pack. To get a free quote from World Nomads, just enter your details below.
7. Gibb’s Hill Lighthouse
For stunning views of Bermuda make a trip over to Gibb’s Hill Lighthouse. Built in 1844, this lighthouse is the tallest of the two in Bermuda and is renowned for being one of the original lighthouses in the world made entirely of cast-iron.
It may not seem all that big from up-close but this century-old lighthouse shoots a beam that can be spotted by ships 40 miles away and by planes flying 10,000 feet high from as far as 120 miles away!
To get to the top, you will need to climb all 185 steep steps. Even for a seasoned hiker, this climb is going to seem impossible at first, especially if you experience discomfort in close spaces. Don’t let the steps put you off as your efforts will be rewarded with an absolutely breathtaking 360-degree view of Bermuda which covers both the shoreline and the Atlantic Ocean.
A little bonus tip for those travelling in spring — you might be lucky to spot the migrating whales!

Statue of Samora Moises Machel Independence Square
After the first few days in Maputo, I wondered if a month would be too much time here. I’ve felt that way about other places in my travels, only to shed a tear when it was time to leave. Maputo isn’t an easy city. There are challenges – sketchy public transportation and infrastructure, poor signage, a significant language barrier, and hot, humid tropical weather. Adjusting has been difficult but worth experiencing Mozambique.
It’s beneficial to get out of your comfort zone and see life from another perspective. It takes me several days to acclimate and find my way around a new city. In a month, there’s time to get comfortable with the environment and then dig deeper. Each day ends with a better understanding of the new culture.
Fort Vista
Maputo Walking Tour Groups
For the past few days, I’ve concentrated on major attractions in central Maputo. Different tour guides have taught me about Maputo’s culture and history. One local group – Maputo a Pé – is knowledgeable and well-connected with local clubs and expat organizations like the French and American cultural centers. Their information office is near the entrance to Jardim Tunduru Botanical Gardens. I’ve appreciated their help and plan to go on their “art safari” and walks to Mafalala and other African barrios.
Relief of Portuguese Soldiers and King Ngungunhane
Walking on concrete for extended periods of time takes its toll. Maputo’s sidewalks are a mess with cracked cement and cars. People park on the sidewalks here almost blocking them completely! This forces pedestrians to walk in the street until they can connect with safe pavement. I’m getting accustomed to it now, but it’s dangerous. Drivers are careless and unconcerned about pedestrians who clearly don’t have the right-of-way. The police don’t seem to do much about the atrocious parking or bad driving.
Central Market
Central Market
One of my guides – Hendy Mario of Maputo Free Walking Tour – leads walks around Maputo’s major historical sites. Hendy is Mozambican. His wife is from Georgia USA. Hendy grew up on the Island of Mozambique (Ilha de Mocambique), a remote fishing village on a “crescent-shaped coral island” in northern Mozambique. The island is noted for its mixture of European, Arabic, and Indian cultures. For centuries it was a Portuguese trading post on the route to India and considered the “capital and trading centre of Portuguese East Africa“.
Hendy Tour Guide
_____________
“The entire Ilha de Mocambique is barely two miles long and a few hundred yards wide. It’s been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.”
_____________
Hendy’s tour was set up like those I enjoyed in Prague. You aren’t obliged to pay a set fee. Instead, you pay the guide what the tour was worth to you. I learned much from Hendy and thought the time was well spent.
Our Lady of Conception Cathedral
We walked the central area where Hendy pointed out various buildings and talked about their history. Many of the buildings are described in Phillip Schauer’s book Maputo Architectural and Tourist Guide, a valuable reference when the dull brain fails.
Statue Portuguese Monument to the Great War
Hendy’s tour concentrates on major historical attractions, some I’d visited previously on my own. He gave me more insight and taught me about African ethnic culture in Mozambique. – the subject of a separate blog post. There are about twelve ethnic groups in Mozambique:
Makua
Sena
Shona
Tsonga
Maconde
Yao
Swahili
Tonga
Chopi
Ngoni
Ndau
European and Mestiço (mixed African and European)
Central Maputo Attractions
We met at the Hotel Pestana Rovuma café near Praca da Independencia (Independence Square) and our first stop was Nossa Senhorha da Conceicao (Our Lady of Conception). The beautiful Cathedral is a well-known landmark in Maputo with a tall single spire and stained-glass interior. Marcial Simões de Freitas e Costa completed building the church in 1944.
French Cultural Center
There was a large funeral gathering at the cathedral with many government cars parked on the grounds. I didn’t think it appropriate to walk inside but will return later to see the interior artwork and stained glass.
Across the street from the cathedral we visited City Hall (Conselho Municipal) or Municipal Council in French “Beau Arts” style. The architects were Carlos Cesar do Santos, Franz Keindl, and Arnaldo Pacheco Pereira Leite. Completed in 1947, the words of the former President of the Portuguese Republic Americo Tomas – “Aqui e Portugal” (This is Portugal) – were inscribed on the front of the building but removed after Mozambique won independence.
Joaquim Augusto Mouzinho de Albuquerque, Portuguese Cavalry
An imposing Statue of Samora Machel dominates Independence Square. Machel was a follower of Eduardo Chivambo Mondlane, the assassinated leader and founder of The Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO). Machel became Mozambique’s first President from 1975 to 1986. He died in an air crash in South Africa under suspicious circumstances.
Wooden Coffin of Ngungunhane
Ngungunhane
His widow, Graça Machel, later married South African President Nelson Mandela. She is an international advocate for women’s and children’s rights. In 1997 she became a British dame for her humanitarian work.

_____________
Graça Machel is the only woman in history to have been first lady of two separate republics, serving as the First Lady of Mozambique from 1975 to 1986 and the First Lady of South Africa from 1998 to 1999.
_____________
Built by the Portuguese, after Mozambique gained independence in 1975, the square’s name changed to Praça da Independência. Samora Machel’s statue replaced an equestrian statue of Joaquim Augusto Mouzinho de Albuquerque, a Portuguese cavalry officer. Albuquerque’s statue was moved to a museum in the old fort with other remnants from the era of Portuguese rule.
We passed the Iron House near the botanical garden. Designed by an associate of Eiffel in the late 19th century. Intended as a residence, the house’s metal-plated exterior was unsuitable for tropical weather. Inside there was a display of some interesting pieces by local artists – all made from bullets and other remnants of Mozambique’s civil war.
Avenida Buildings
I’ve visited Tunduru Botanical Gardens a few times to take a break from the heat and busy city streets. Trees in the park are magnificent. Hendy pointed out a colony of fruit bats that made the park their home. You can see them hanging in the trees – can’t believe I missed them.
On the way to the fort we passed interesting buildings including the Avenida buildings which burnt down in a 1990 fire and have never been restored. In a prime location in central Maputo, they were built in the early 1900s for Gerard Pott, a South African and the Honorary Consul of Transvaal.
Graça Machel
Another interesting building that has seen better days is the TAP (Portuguese National Airline) or Montepio (Portuguese Savings Bank) building. It has a colorful abstract mosaic painted on the façade. After many uses over the years, it’s now an apartment building with a dramatic interior staircase.
Central Market
Central Market
We continued to restored Fortaleza da Nossa Senhora da Conceicao, the Portuguese built the fort in the mid-19th century. The fort’s museum houses “remnants from the era of early Portuguese forays to the area”. The sealed, carved wooden coffin of Ngungunhane – “final ruler of the famed kingdom of Gaza” is on display in one of the side rooms.
Montepio Building
In another area of the museum, local Mozambican artists crafted beautiful detailed wooden carvings depicting scenes from the Portuguese takeover up until the Africans won their independence. The battle for independence was fierce and brutal, and many lost their lives. The Africans fought on foot using primitive weapons, while the Portuguese had horses and guns!
We ended the tour at CFM Railway Station (Caminho de Ferro de Mocambique). The beautiful Victorian building was designed in 1920 by an associate of Gustave Eiffel. It has a wrought iron roof dome and marble for the outside pillars and arches. It’s considered one the ten most beautiful train stations in the world.

A Monument to the Great War stands in front of the train station. It represents the “efforts and sacrifices of the Portuguese and Mozambicans in the First World War”. The statue is considered more of a Portuguese memorial “representing the sacrifices of the Portuguese in repelling the German invasion of northern Mozambique”.
After Mozambique gained independence from Portugal in 1975, the Minister of Transportation wanted to destroy the Monument to the Great War, but the “multi-ton hunk of steel-reinforced concrete made that difficult. Today it remains as a monument to Mozambique’s territorial integrity”.
Old Engine Central Train Station
“Local legend surrounding this statue states that it honours a courageous woman who rid the area of a deadly cobra (rising up from the woman’s feet), which had killed many local people. The notorious creature met its match when it plunged to its death into a boiling cauldron of porridge balancing on the woman’s head. It’s definitely one of the landmarks of Mozambique’s capital.”
Iron House
I thought about taking the train from Maputo to Cape Town in March but after talking with several locals, realize it would be a long, uncomfortable trip and with frequent stops could take up to 7+ days. I’ll fly instead.

____________
“Inhaca Island reefs are among the most southerly in the world. Since 1976 parts of the island and surrounding waters are a marine reserve with over 300 species of birds recorded.”
_____________
Maputo Beach
Nature Reserves, Inhaca Island Snorkeling, Ponta do Ouro
Many of Mozambique’s nature reserves are either closed through March for the rainy season or beyond my budget. I’m planning a snorkeling trip to Inhaca island in Maputo Bay and perhaps Ponta do Ouro. Inhaca island is a marine research centre known for its coral reefs. Ponta do Ouro is south of Mozambique near the South African border. Getting to both locations can be complicated and involves ferries and booking in advance.
Central Maputo Mozambique After the first few days in Maputo, I wondered if a month would be too much time here.

25 Lessons from Age 25
1. HOME IS A VIBE
Throughout my whole life, I always thought home was a place. A city, a state, four walls and a hard-wood floor. I don’t believe this anymore. With my family and friends spread out across the country like a cream-cheesed bagel, I realized now that home is as much everywhere as it is nowhere. It’s in the memories and the songs and the thoughts that race through my mind as I fall asleep. Ain’t no place like it.
2. SUMMER IN THE SOUTH IS LIKE WINTER IN THE MIDWEST
It’s the kind of lock-yourself-in-and-binge-watch weather that I though only existed in the dark days of Midwest winter. Except in the South, an Irish Coffee does not soften the blow. No liquor nor liquid can save you from this wet heat. It’s like being trapped inside of a beached whale. Just embrace the sweat. Just breathe. It’s the price one pays for 70 and sunny in December.
3. THE SOPRANOS IS THE GREATEST SHOW OF ALL TIME
I don’t know why it took me so long to press play on episode one. Probably some combination of fears. The fear that one cultural phenomenon from the early 2000’s could never live up to the hype. The fear that 7 seasons might as well be considered a hobby. In any case, the fear wasn’t warranted. The character depth on this show could home a giant squid. It’s simply the best.
4. NFL KICKERS ARE VALUABLE
Every August, I offer up my emotional wellbeing to the 53-man roster of the San Diego Chargers. And every year, they find an innovative way to lose games – spiraling me into a fit of heated disappointment for 2-3 subsequent days. This year, my anguish was at the feet of 5 incompetent kickers. Never in my life have I seen so many different people do equally shitty at the same job. 9-7 could have been so much more.
5. TALES FROM THE CRYPT
I don’t really know what crypto currency is and I don’t really care to do the research. All I know is that my roommates convinced me to buy some. Now, on a daily basis, I’ve either lost everything or I’ve exponentially multiplied my money. It’s a great way to inject some crippling fear into your otherwise stable life.
6. I CAN ROUGH IT
We were warned that humans should not go to the Appalachian Mountains in such hazardous winter conditions. “That’s cute,” they said. “I love camping and I would never do that,” they said. I laughed this off as I soaked up the rays of the mountain sun. At the tender hour of 6 PM, I knew they were right. Never in my life have I been so cold, but I survived the night.
7. THE GRIND IS REAL
My dentist recently told me that I grind my teeth when I sleep. I didn’t really believe him until my first night with a sleep-in mouth guard. I woke myself up 3 times from chomping down on that bad boy like corn on the cob. Touché mister dentist…touché.
8. HOW TO EAT CRAWFISH
It’s way harder than it fuckin looks, and everyone has a style that they think is right. The most effective way for me: Rip off that head, slurp the juices, crunch the sides of the tail lightly, peel back the shell, and eat the meat. Repeat until you are disgusted with yourself.
9. DON’T SKIMP ON THE FISH BOWL CONDITIONER
Instead of running out to PETCO to grab another bottle of water conditioner, I thought I could stretch out the last remaining bit among two bowls and re-up for the next round. The next morning, I found both of my Beta fish (Pepperjelly and Kyrie) dead at the bottom of their tanks. The scene will stick with me until I too am dead. I’m so so sorry guys.
10. KEEP IT SALTY
The easiest way to turn your body into Gumby and your brain into gum balls is through a hot epsom salt bath. I don’t know what they put in that stuff, but I am hooked. You ladies had this shit down a long time ago and I applaud you for it.
11. HOW TO FLY ON AN AIRPLANE
I flew on more planes this past year than I did the 24 years prior combined. With lots of practice, you learn little things that assist on the journey. Firstly, download your Spotify playlists before the flight so you can listen in the sky. Secondly, use the debit card with the bad strip and they will give you your Gin & Tonic for free to avoid holding up the line.
12. HOW TO MAKE A GOOD GIN & TONIC
I had a new-found love and appreciation for this drink in 2017. It’s sharp, yet refreshing. Sophisticated, yet simple. Just a damn good drink for the night time hours. Pour 2 shots gin and 2 ½ shots tonic over a ¾ full glass of ice cubes. Top with a one-second squirt of lime juice. Stir and drink with a colorful bendy straw. Add a splash of orange or cranberry juice if you are feeling “tropical.” Enjoy.
13. THE RAPPER’S WRITING PROCESS
There’s something magical about the driver’s seat that I just can’t get from sitting down at a desk. As much as I like to write, I’ve never written a song on paper. I start with a line in my head and say it out loud and build it bit by bit, so by the time it’s done I already have it memorized. With the beats blasting, I can write and recite over and over until it’s polished. Sometimes at night I drive up and down the same strip of Canal St. while I work on a song. I probably look like a drunkard, but process is process.
14. KENDRICK LAMAR HAS MY BACK
DAMN. came out about one week before I moved from Omaha to New Orleans, and it served as the soundtrack to my re-location. It was the sound of a transition of styles. Something new, scary, and exciting. Fast forward six months, and I’m feeling lost. I see Kendrick live on stage at Voodoo Fest, surrounded by thousands of people chanting “We gon’ be alright!” in unison. His presence alone feels like some sort of divine intervention. He was my support system throughout this whole thing.
15. BEWARE THE SPICY SALADS
I learned this lesson twice at 25. The first time was a pre-packaged Cajun salad at Louis Armstrong Intl. Airport in New Orleans. The pink dressing made my eyes water and I was completely taken off guard. It was a good burn. The second time was at the Chili’s in the Dallas Fort-Worth Airport. Their chipotle ranch dressing was spicy on a practical joke kind of level. When the waiter asked if I wanted more dressing we both laughed in a “fuckin good one” kind of way. My subsequent flight was the worst of my life.
16. I CAN ROCK A CAP
I always thought that my head was too small or misshapen for hats. I experimented at age 15 and hated the results. Since then, I have largely avoided the idea altogether. One Autumn day, I tried on a random hat hanging on the coatrack and my whole view changed. My head was made for the so-called “dad cap.” My hair might not last forever, but a new door has been opened when it comes to cranial decorations.
17. DON’T BET ON THE SPREAD
You might as well buy something instead of just throwing your money away on sports betting. “Oh, Creighton is a 9-point underdog to Gonzaga?! This is too good to be true!” Creighton lost by 17 and this was the first and last time I will bet on a sporting event. Even at the casino, you play games and get free drinks. Sports betting is a hot date that never shows up to the restaurant. Enjoy that cold dinner alone, Tyler. You deserve it.
18. CLOTHES STEAMER > CLOTHES IRON
Light, compact, effective, and efficient. I don’t know how I got by without one of these gizmos before. Just put that shirt on a hanger and blast away with some steam. It’s almost too easy. Word of caution: DO NOT use the clothes steamer while you are wearing the clothes. I did this and got a Burger King looking grill mark burn on my chest for about a week.
19. I HAVE A THING FOR FRENCH GIRLS
Namely, French girl singers of the 1960s. France Gall, Brigitte Bardot, Françoise Hardy, and the like. I have no idea what they are saying in their joyous tunes, but it’s so buttery that I don’t care. I feel like I understand it nonetheless. I also met Marion this year, a real-life lady from France. She loved to dance and I will miss her.
20. ALONE TIME IS A GIFT
I took this for granted when I had my own apartment with just me and my cat Pancake. I could do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted and got very little pushback on my lifestyle choices. If I cleaned up, it stayed clean unless I made a mess. If I wanted to sleep in, I slept in. It was simple. Now, with two roommates, I’ve learned to cherish the time I get alone. You never know how long it will last.
21. I CAN FINISH AN AUDIOBOOK
It’s always been difficult for me to read an entire book. I get bored, my eyes get tired, and after a while, I’m just reading words while thinking about food or when I fucked up “memorable” in the 5th grade spelling bee. “M-O-M...do I have to finish?” My love of podcasts has been around since my late teens, so it seems pretty obvious that audiobooks might be a good way to absorb some literature. Obvious or not, it took me several years to figure that out. I’m very happy to have gained valuable insights from Chuck Klosterman, Malcolm Gladwell, Tina Fey, and others this past year.
22. THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF POOLS
Back in Nebraska, I knew of three types: home, public, and country club. I figured that this was just how pools worked in the United States. I was wrong. There are all sorts of weird pools. Swanky rooftop pools with all attractive people and $15 drinks. Tiny park pools that look like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater creations. And then there is The Drifter. A pool for the punk scene where tops are optional. What a world we live in.
23. AMAZON PRIME IS AN INCREDIBLE DEAL
I had my entire living arrangement shipped for free to my doorstep in 2 days. Bed and desk and chairs - everything. The works. If it can be bought, you can buy it on Amazon. On top of that, you can watch Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, and One Mississippi. If that’s not worth $100, I don’t know what is.
24. TALKSPACE THERAPY IS MY SHIT
Thank you for everything Jenise!
25. YOU CAN MAKE NEW FRIENDS, BUT YOU CAN NEVER REPLACE YOUR HOMIES
You know who you are. You know all of the dumb shit we’ve done. You were there through all of the bad breakups and shakeups and opportunities to eat chicken wings. It has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated. I love you guys and gals to death.

7 Romantic Honeymoon Offbeat Destination
As we all know, as soon as October ends, wedding season comes to its peak. Every new couple look for some interesting sweet destination, where they can spend some alone time with the picturesque scenery. so Etrains is happy to help you to share about some unconventional places, where one can really spend a lifetime memory to their honeymoon.
1. Lakshadweep Island :
If you are planning anytime soon, months from October to February are best suited for your honeymoon in Lakshadweep. Itʼs the time when the vegetation is at its greenest.
Soothingly beautiful and spell-binding, Lakshadweep is the smallest Union Territory of India. 36 constituting islands of Lakshadweep sweep 32 km sq of area under them. The group of island has everything you can ask for an amazing and memorable honeymoon – glittering water, shimmering sand, beautiful beaches, luxurious resorts, adventure activities, and warm locales. Know about whatʼs there in the preparation of your once-in-a-lifetime.
What to do in Lakshadweep :
Kerala can be divided in to three natural divisions, the sandy coastal region with coconut groves, paddy fields, back waters and sea. On the other, in the Arabian Sea, roughly 200 km off the west coast of southern India, are the Indiaʼs secret islands, the Lakshadweep. Water sports facilities like swimming, rafting, snorkeling, windsurfing, parasailing, water skiing, yachting, catamaran sailing, sports fishing, deep sea fishing and scuba diving are available in the islands.
Agatti is known for being the best Snorkeling spot in Lakshadweep Island:
You may take your soul mate for a tour in the sea on a glass-bottom boat and experience the splendor of the marine life. Or you may walk around hand in hand admiring the amazing lagoons of the Island.
Best time to visit: You can visit Lakshadweep in the months of October to February. However, blessed with tropical climate temperature, which ranges from 25 degrees to 35 degrees the island is pleasant all year around. While Lakshadweep has less islands to explore, they are the epitome of virgin and untouched landscapes. Kavaratti Island is the most developed island in the region. The island also has some attractions that you can visit, aside from the white sandy beaches, like the Kavaratti Lighthouse, Ujire Mosque and Marine Aquarium. Agatti Island also has white sandy beaches but it only has two resorts within its premises. The last island open for foreign nationals is the Bangaram Island. You can explore the white shore beaches of the island along with the brackish lagoon located right in the middle of it. Other islands worth visiting in Lakshadweep are Kadmat, Minicoy and Kalpeni. These islands are even lesser explored than the previous islands so you cannot expect much when it comes to tourist facilities when in here.
2. Aizawl (Mizoram) :
If escaping far away with your loved one happens to be your plan, check out this pristine town located amidst the Lushai Hills just near the Burma Border. Aizawal, the capital city of Mizoram is a basket of beautiful things. Vantawang Falls, Blue Mountain Phawangpui – the highest peak in Mizoram, Hills are just some of the wonders from this basket. Home to magnificent white churches set up on the hills overlooking the city and gorgeous Bamboo forests that one would like to gladly disappear into.
Among one of the oldest cities in the north eastern region of India, with an elevated setting and breathtaking views, Aizawl is a peaceful little town even though it's the capital of the state. It would be probably one of the most peaceful state capitals in India. Aizawl, pronounced eye-zole, is a perfect place to relax while enjoying the local food and culture. Home to the Mizoram State Museum and few other tourist complexes, tourists have few options to enjoy a sightseeing tour in the city. Apart from these, one can take a tour to the nearby hilly areas of Hmuifang, Tamdil Lake and Chanmari.
3. Jaiselmer :
The golden city (apparently so due to the sandstone used in the buildings)or the city of forts , far west in Rajasthan, bordering the Thar desert is another beautiful place to spend your honeymoon, just under the clear skies and a full moon. Though the city of Jaisalmer and the Fort of Jaisalmer which houses the old city are in a different league altogether, what with its splashes of history and old world charm, but the overnight camping in the sand dunes right in the midst of the desert is a high-point and a beautiful experience , which you will cherish throughou your life.
Camel rides, banjaras, kalbeliyas, the twirling dancers, soulful folk tunes, flickering embers as the night dies … all will remind you of Sridevi as she danced in gay abandon in the movie Lamhe as Anil Kapoor watched her spellbound.
Jaisalmer is never lacking in excitement and adventure either and you can spend a whole day and night in the desert in a camel safari, or a long aimless drive in the smooth highway . You can enjoy a threesome date with history with your beloved roaming in the Old city of Jaisalmer, the Sonar Kella or the Golden fort, the many havelis and many monuments, shopping for antiques and curios. Best and probably the only season to visit is the winter season, but isn't the most popular wedding season the winters? So what do you say? Are you willing to lose yourselves in the vast expanse of the magnificent desert.
4. Thanedar Himachal :
Thanedar is at about 80 kms from Shimla on the old Hindustan - Tibet road. Set at an altitude of about 7700 ft / 2350 M, from here unfolds a magnificent panorama of mountains. The farthest of them are cloaked in snow, others are deodar clad or draped in a soft blue haze. In a gorge, some 6,000 feet below and clearly visible to the naked eye, flows the River Sutlej. Thanedar & its surrounds enjoy a special place in Himachal history.
In 1916 Samuel Stokes, a social worker from Philadelphia brought the first apple saplings to this place he had adopted as his home. One can still see the 'Starking Delicious' apple orchard that he planted there. Nestled amongst the acres of apple & cherry orchards that drape the mountain slopes in this region, is the Banjara Orchard Retreat - an Eco-friendly getaway that will enchant nature lovers. There are fully furnished rooms, family suites and independent log cabins with attached baths and a well-equipped kitchen to cater to a variety of tastes. Mr. Prakash Thakur, the host, for whom the Orchard Retreat has been a labor of love, is also the resident expert on the history and culture of this little piece of paradise.
The Banjara Orchard Retreat is open throughout the year (unless it snows heavily in Jan/ Feb. Temperatures vary with the seasons). May to September have pleasant days and cold nights while March- April & October- November has pleasant days and night temperature may dip to 2-3 degree centigrade. December- Feb can get very cold with good chance of snow fall early Jan onwards.
5. Auli (Uttarakhand):
Dotted with apple orchards, oaks and deodars. Auli is a popular hill resort in the Himalayan range dating back to 8th Century AD.
Auli is a popular skiing destination in India because of its glittering slopes and clean environment. Dotted with apple orchards, oaks and deodars, Auli is a popular hill town with numerous ski resorts situated amidst the Himalayan range. Located at 2800 meters above sea levels, it is home to mountain ranges of Nanda Devi, Mana Parvat and Kamat Kamet. Many religious destinations are also scattered around Auli. It is believed that Shankracharya had blessed Auli with his visit.
Hanuman Temple : It is a small shrine dedicated to the Hindu Monkey God. According to legends, the temple has been constructed on the place where Hanuman took rest while flying all the way from Lanka to Dronagiri Mountain in Himalaya to bring Sanjivani (life-restoring herb) for Lakshman, brother of Lord Ram.
Artificial Lake :
Situated adjacent to Cliff top Club hotel in Auli, it is the highest man-made lake in the world. This artificial lake is developed by the government to create artificial snow on new ski slopes so that tourists can enjoy an extended skiing season.
Nanda Devi Peak : Named after Goddess Nanda (Bliss-Giving Goddess), Nanda Devi Peak is India's second highest mountain. With an elevation of 7,817 meters, the mountain is indeed a visual treat. Nanda Devi Peak is a part of Garhwal Himalayan Range and is surrounded by Nanda Devi National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Trishul Peak : Located at an elevation of around 23,490 feet above sea level, Trishul Peak is the kind of natural marvel that leaves you enamored and fumbling for your camera. It is one of the most famous spots to enjoy skiing in Auli. There is also a lake named, Roopkund, situated at the base of Trishul Peak. Roopkund Lake is known for its mysterious background as around 600 skeletal remains of humans and horses were discovered here.
6. Alappuzha Kerela :
Referred to as the Venice of the East, Alappuzha has always enjoyed an important place in the maritime history of Kerala. Today, it is famous for its boat races, backwater holidays, beaches, marine products and coir industry. Alappuzha Beach is a popular picnic spot. The pier, which extends out to the sea here, is over 137 years old. Entertainment facilities at the Vijaya Beach Park add to the attraction of the beach. There is also an old lighthouse nearby which greatly intrigues all visitors.
Another delightful experience while in Alappuzha is the houseboat cruise. The houseboats you find in the backwaters of Alappuzha are in fact a reworked version of the Kettuvallams of olden times. Kettuvallam is a Malayalam word, ‘Kettuʼ, refers to dwelling structures and ‘Vallomʼ means boat. In the olden days, kettuvallam or boat with thatched roof that covers over wooden hulls was used to carry tons of rice and spices. Of late, houseboats come equipped with all the comforts of a good hotel room including furnished bedrooms, modern toilets, cozy living rooms, a kitchen and even a balcony for angling. An uninterrupted view of life in the backwaters can be enjoyed while staying in a houseboat.
Houseboats:
Houseboats are available at Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, Allappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kasaragod.
Alleppey Beach is one of the must visit beaches of Kerala. The intrinsic natural beauty of Alleppey Beach is what makes it so attractive to thousands of people visiting it. When you visit the beach, you can see the 137 year old ancient pier that stretches out into the beach. As you lounge in the beach, you can enjoy the mesmerising beauty of the dense palm groves and the imposing, but ancient lighthouse. Alleppey Beach is a place where you can unwind yourself, completely.
Vembanad Lake :
Vembanad Lake has a couple of accolades to its name. It is the largest lake in Kerala and also the longest. Many small lakes flow into the Vembanad Kayal making it long and ever-flowing. The lake is also well-known for its long saga of boat races, held during the Onam festival. The Vembanad Lake is the perfect vacation spot where you can dine on lots of freshly caught fish, indulge in a couple of fishing induced evenings yourself and just gaze into yonder.
7. Dharamkot Himachal :
This little Yoga village is ideal for a few daysʼ time off from the real world. Or even months.. if youʼre lucky enough to take time off work for that long. Dharamkot is the perfect base for multiple hikes in the Himalayas such as Triund, Illaqua, Indrahar Pass, etc. It is just an overnight bus ride away from the famous backpackersʼ hot spot – Kasol. My first visit to this village was back in 2008 and I kept going back for more.
If youʼre looking for a relaxed vacation that doesn't involve hiking or walking around, then Dharamkot is NOT the place for you. This village doesn't have any roads, except for a single road that leads to it and pretty much ends where thereʼs a very famous cafe called “Trek and Dine”.
The best thing about Dharamkot is the vibe. Let me try to describe the vibe here if I can. The vibe is a mix of some of magic, pure spiritual energy of the Himalayas, happiness of the simple folks that live there, peace & serenity and a feeling on oneness with the nature. The sounds of mountain birds, the whistling of air through deodar tree leaves, the distant smells of farm animals mixed with herb-based cooking will awaken all your senses. This is a good spot for early morning yoga and meditation – if youʼre in that sort of stuff.

The marine conservation columnist for Boating magazine for 10 years, Rybovich championed the 200-mile limit for U.S. waters and bag and size limits on offshore species such as billfish, tuna and mackerel. He also helped found the West Palm Beach Fishing Club and was its president for 10 years. As an angler, Rybovich enjoyed fishing off Palm Beach and in the Bahamas. He helped establish Cuba and Venezuela as fishing destinations in the early 1950s, and suggested to his pal Ernest Hemingway -- Rybovich had outfitted Hemingway`s boat Pilar -- that he try the fishing off Cuba. Still, he was best known for the sleek fishing boats crafted at his family`s Rybovich and Sons boat yard in West Palm Beach. The boats were as practical as they were beautiful. Designed specifically for fishing, Rybovich boats are still the standard against which all others are judged. ``He was ahead of his time in terms of recognition of things game fishing that would make a boat a better fishing platform,`` said Nick Smith, a long-time friend and top sailfish angler, who noted that Rybovich viewed his boats as nothing more than a platform to catch fish from. ``Every custom-built boat, and for that matter every high-quality production boat, is a reflection of Rybovich. They`ve all got the Rybovich heritage if they`re worth a damn.`` Before Rybovich invented aluminum outriggers, they were made out of bamboo. Fighting chairs ranged from pieces of household furniture to uncomfortable, ineffective contraptions. Rybovich developed a chair with a ball-bearing spindle, an adjustable foot-rest and back, and padded arms. His 56-year-old design has not been improved upon. Rybovich was the oldest of John and Anna Rybovich`s five children. John Sr.

I have talked to several captains about what caused them to decide to fly their flags this way, to something we’ve all done for years without knowing exactly if we’re doing it right. Flags fly true and clean on several red triangle pennants would be flown under that to signify how many were released. Weather flags are also popular community, this shift in thought signifies more than just catch-and-release becoming the norm. So I asked a few specific questions of a few normally reliable sources here and overseas, release flags right side up these days. For more recent exchange rates, please use the Universal that crews around the world are using flags to show their success instead of stacking dead fish on the dock. If you are a U.S. documented or registered vessel, fly the American flag; if you flag available. There are no documented instances of wild wolf populations in Iowa at this time. The closest wolf packs are in central Wisconsin and northern Minnesota. However, in December of 2015, a coyote hunter in northwest Iowa saw what he honestly thought was a coyote at long range. He shot it. It was a very big animal so he contacted his local game warden. The animal was tested by DNA authorities and the results were that this animal was a wolf. DNA composition must show 98 percent or higher to come under the protection of federal and state law. Iowa hunters are continually urged to make detailed observations of and note the distinct differences between wolves and coyotes.

Hints
Cheats in the Newspaper
Cheat codes can be found in the bottom right hand corner of newspapers so buy them when you can.
Leg Work
This best works in armadillo. If you have the throwing knives, throw one knife using dead eye at the persons leg then see if he pulls out a gun. If he does throw another knife at his other leg from farther away he will sometimes drop on his knees and shoot at you with his gun. Then kill him however you want. I prefer a knife to the eye but do what ever you want.
Easy Skin Animals
When you have shot an animal of any kind and do not like to wait to collect the “reward”, just simply park your horse over the animal, hop off, and hit triangle to skin the animal. This saves alot of time.
Tackle A Bull
First, get in a fight with anyone who will fight back at Macfarlen’s ranch. Go to the cow pen (wile in the fight)and then set up a ground tackle and when the bull charge’s ground tackle. YOU WILL GRAB THE BULL AND THE BULL WILL FALL AND YOU CAN PUNCH HIM!
Homing Dynamite
Select dynamite from your weapons and then go into Dead Eye aiming mode. Position the orange arch so that it passes through or comes into contact with your target. Press R1 to lock onto your target and then press R2 to send the dynamite chasing after the intended victim. The dynamite won’t stop flying after the target until it’s dead. (Also works with firebottles a.k.a. Molotovs).
Make Money
Go out to the mountains and shoot bears, cougars, bighorn up in mountains cougars claws are worth $24 and bears are worth I think $18.
How To Get In The Villa House
In the misson where you kill bill there are some men with axes chopin th door down and you have to use the gatlen gun if you stand inbetween the door and the man you should be spawn inside the house if you want to get out you can just trow a fire bottle at the door and it will say you assalted one of Reyes men.
Early Access To Mexico
Go to “Frontera Bridge.” and ride quickly to the end of the bridge and get off the horse. Let your poor horse fall into the water. Do NOT call a new horse. Next, walk backward until the railroad track starts running into solid ground – it’s not very gar. Next, turn left and go down the steep slope all the way to the riverbank. There are a bunch of small bushes by the river and the music should also switch to Spanish music. If you don’t hear the new music you’ll have to start over. Finally, set up a campsite when you hear the music and you will then be on the Mexican side of the river. The “Romita de la Baya” bridge will take you back across the border, and you’ll have to do the same thing with the horse here, let it fall into the river and set up a campsite on the island. The campsite should be near the edge of the island to the north, either to the left or the right of the bridge.
Hint
If you go to the shallows, you will get a volcanic rifle, by defeating the gang members.

West Dickens Takes A Break
Begin a mission with West Dickens that requires driving or shotgunning hiscarriage. When you are a few hundred yards away from the mission’s beginningpoint, press Triangle (on PlayStation3) or Y (on Xbox 360) to jump free. Remainidle and do not get back on the carriage. Eventually West Dickens will jump offthe carriage and begin urinating.
Make Easy Money
Buy the house available in Armadillo, then after you did that, go to the bank and go in, DO NOT KILL THE GUARD, go to the back room and simply break the safes just like you use a combination lock for real and check the boxes in the same room as the safes and you should have 180-200 dollars.
Master Level 10
To kill all 3 rare animals, go and steal a stage coach. just sit in the drivers seat and shoot the rare animals. the animals can’t reach you. It’s like shooting fish ina barrel.
Buy A Mule
You can buy a mule in some general stores in Mexico but they are slow and will not jump over anything.
Sheep
You can find a sheep in the pens in armadillo and sometimes in the MacFarland ranch (can only be found in the day time and are rare animals).
Warning When Using Cheats
If you use a cheat code you will not be able to unlock trophies or save the game.
Easy Money
Hi RDR fans, I know how to make easy money. Some ways a good person might are:jobs, bounty hunting, help people who are being robbed, if a band of thugs (people who ride in on their horses shooting pistols in the air) shooting them, looting dead peoples bodies (they wont need it where they’re going), and hunting. Evil ways are:gambling, robbing, cattle and horse rustling, murdering then looting the body, winning duels, aim at people with your gun because they’ll pull out their gun and shoot you and that gives you the right to defend yourself and hit and runs.
