Fort Canning Tree Tunnel," Singapore,
Fort Canning Tree tunnel connects Penang Road with Fort Canning Park and ends with a spiral staircase looking up to a large Yellow Rain Tree. Fort Canning Park is open 24/7 and there is no entrance fee for visiting it.
Fort Canning was built in 1859 and used by the British Army and then the Japanese Army during the occultation in WWII. It was handed over to the Singapore Armed Forces in 1963 and converted into a public park in 1972.

5 WAYS TO HELP WITH SPECIES DYSPHORIA AS A THERIAN (with and without gear)
- please note that most of these are focused mainly on being a wolf therian, but i'll try my best to make it more inclusive to others.
1 •
my personal favorite, wolf quest! this one does cost money, so this isn't for those who don't have the money/don't already have the game. it really helps me feel more connected to who i am. you find a mate, raise pups, hunt prey, defend your den and pack from predators, and there's even a multiplayer option for you to play with your friends. :o)
(and yes, you can customize what your wolf looks like. all NPC wolves in the game have different personalities for immersion, including you, your pups, and your mate)
please note that the game is still in development! they plan to add a saga where you can live constantly with your pack and continue with new generations each year (and no, you don't HAVE to pass away). you can toggle whether your mate dies or not, if you play on easy you can avoid your pups getting sick by reloading saves if you're sensitive to that, there are constantly new updates being brought out that make the game feel more realistic each time and the development team are incredibly sweet. if you have the money i highly recommend this game, wolf therian or otherwise.
2 •
documentaries. a wonderful way to not only feel more connected to your theriotype(s), but to also learn more information about them! my favorite thing to do when i'm stressed is to wrap myself in warm blankets, turn off my lights and put on a documentary to calm myself down. bonus points if you DO have gear to wear during this, if not that's okay too.
i also like to have my plush friends join me so i can act like they're my pack :o) it's a nice way to feel less lonely as i watch. this also works if you're a domestic cat therian, have your plushies be your clouder! no matter what animal you are though, never feel less valid for wanting your stuffies with you during this. it doesn't matter if your theriotype isn't a social animal in the wild.
if you're an aquatic therian of some kind, i think a good idea would be taking your phone in the bathroom with you and setting it up outside of the tub to watch whilst you're in the water! (or shower if you don't have one, you can also use a kiddie pool outside in the warmer months). PLEASE remember to be safe during this though, if you worry about getting your phone wet then instead find some blue blankets and pretend it's the ocean!
3 •
going outside to where your theriotype resides in naturally. of course this won't be for everyone, since a lot of the time trips can end up being quite costly. something that i like to do is go to my local forest whenever i have the time to do so! i find it refreshing to sit by the stream and play in the water with my mate.
if you're a domestic dog therian, ask to go on a walk around the neighborhood with your friend! (or hell, go by yourself if it's safe enough, you're a free dog, you can do what you want). even as a wild animal i still enjoy this, so don't feel ashamed if you're ALSO a wild animal who wants to do things that domestic dogs do. it doesn't make you any less undomesticated.
if you're an animal that's used to deserts, i recommend going to where you can access sand (e.g. a sandbox at a playground, asking for a small sand tray to play in as a gift, a day out to the beach if you live near one). i also find that dried dirt that's very damaged can feel sort of similar to sand!
if you can't go outside for whatever reason, then there's always ways to make your bedroom feel similar to where you would be more comfortable. if your theriotype lives in dens like caves and underneath trees, make a blanket fort and pretend it's your home! if your theriotype rests in a burrow, make a tunnel with some blankets from the top of your bed all the way down to under it (if that doesn't work, pretend that anything below your bed is underground, and anything above your bed is the surface).
4 •
dressing in clothes that are the same color as your theriotype. i have this fluffy hat with ears that feels very affirming for my species dysphoria, paired with my favorite dark sweaters, warm pants and my tail. if you don't have any gear, don't worry! you don't need to have any to complete an outfit. sometimes clothing textures can also be affirming. for example if you have smooth skin like a whale, a bathing suit can feel similar to blubber. (if you have gender dysphoria, i recommend either full body bathing suits, or wearing pants on top of it and a jacket to help yourself feel more affirmed). i wear fluffy clothes because my fur is fluffy :o) it helps me, personally, but this might not be the same for everyone!
5 •
studying the behavior of your theriotype and trying your best to imitate it to the best of your abilities with the body you have. this can be as simple as copying how they act around each other as a family (for example wolves who are mates will rest their chins on each other to display affection), and as difficult as trying to vocalize what sounds your theriotype makes.
if you wanted to try the latter, i recommend looking at vocal exercises online before as a lot of creature sounds can and will strain your voice, i promise you that warming up your chords will not only help you sound clearer, it'll ensure that it won't take as much effort to do!

Can we talk about how sometimes I see people confuse nests and dens completely? Because it happens a surprising amount.
First of all, what IS a nest when it comes to mammals specifically, considering Omegaverse draws inspiration from animal behavior?
Here are some NON-BIRD google results for "animal nest", "mammal nest" and similar searches, a.k.a. This is a representation of Animal Nests:
Notable features:
the nest is BUILT. The structure is specifically created/crafted from materials that may or may not belong to the surrounding environment, but it is clearly built by the animal for either themselves or their offspring, usually for the purpose of resting in.
The nest is built in a mostly-round shape, and the sides of the nest are covered, while the top usually isn't. The height of the sides varies however, so the space in the middle may appear more cavernous at times. Nests are often made in sheltered locations where they remain hidden, but actual shelter from rain etc is not necessarily a part of a nest.
Now then, what are the searches for DENS? Here's what google comes up with when you look for "animal den" or "mammal den", a.k.a. a generic representation of what dens are:
Notable features:
Dens are DUG, instead of built. They are tunnel-like features in the terrain that do not utilize manipulation of material to craft a structure, like nests do.
Dens are tunnel-like. They are covered at the top and most sides, with an opening at the side for entry and exit. They are dug into hillsides, under trees, and occasionally flat ground in order to ensure a space where the top of the den will be covered, much like a cave.
So, what's the difference when it comes to omegaverse, especially lifestylers?
A nest is a structure you build. An example of a nest is when you organize all your blankets and pillows to form "walls" around you in your bed (shape, structure, meant for rest, utilizes the action of building with materials). A nest could also be a bean bag in the corner of your room that you surround with soft things and maybe even other larger items to block a direct view into it (sheltered location, intentionally buolt structure). Nests also are generally far softer- not that dens are uncomfortable, but nests tend to be made in places that are ALREADY comfortable, such as bean bags, beds and sofas.
A den is a bit more difficult to define, but to me, a den is anything you build UNDER something, i.e. utilizing an estabilished structure to provide shelter, including a closed top. Bringing blankets and cozy things under your desk or bed to create a super sheltered tunnel-like structure? That's a den, buddy.
One thing I find is "a bit of both", is pillow/blanket forts. It's obviously built intentionally and doesn't utilize an existing structure, but it usually includes a covered top and a tunnel- or cavern-like internal structure. It isn't quite a nest, but it also isn't truly a den because it involves intentional creation of a structure. Personally I tend to lean more towards them being den-adjacent, but depending on how comfortable and soft the interior is, you could consider pillow/blanket forts "dens with a nest built inside".
Anyway, I feel it's important to add that your dynamic doesn't necessarily determine which you prefer. An Alpha can nest and an Omega can burrow. It's personal preference- the only reason there are any associations are mostly because omega nests are seen as cozy, comfortable structures built to house offspring and/or made for sleeping/resting, while alpha dens are seen more as shelters from the elements and structures inside of which you can isolate yourself to get over a rut or even just to hibernate.
Additionally... An idea for a headcanon reasoning is that Omegas generally don't burrow and are discouraged from creating dens for themselves by society because it's seen as an "alpha thing" and that Omegas don't need the shelter and protection a den offers because "an alpha will come and take care of you anyway, so you can just share the alpha's den". Similarly, alphas could be discouraged from nesting because it's seen as "omega behavior" and not 'suitable' for an alpha. Very much mirrors emotional vulnerability, interests and preferences irl; men aren't "allowed" to like soft things or 'be' soft emotionally, because it's "feminine", while women are discouraged from being independent and having a "hard shell" because it's "too masculine". Utilizing this in a headcanon about nests/dens is a good way to explore patriarchy and gender roles & expectations.
Anyway the only reason I actually made this post is because I see so many people call their dens "nests" when what they actually have is an obvious den. Please embrace it!! Dens are great!! Dens offer shelter and safety and create a more private space separate from your surroundings!! There's nothing wrong with building dens/burrowing, as opposed to nesting!! If you want the shelter/safety of a den, that's great!! You don't have to be an alpha to do that!! And also for the alphas- you are allowed to nest!!! It's not a weird thing!!! Nests are super cozy and comfy for a reason, AND you maintain a visual connection to your surroundings more easily if you feel like you need to stay alert/guard!!! Betas can have a nest! Betas can have a den! Betas can have both if they like, why are we forgetting about them when it comes to this anyway??? It's INDIVIDUAL preference.
Random addition I couldn't fit anywhere else: I personally tend to think that an alpha definition of a den can be a little more fluid than just "a tunnel/cavern dug into the ground/under an object". I mean, technically, a room is a den, too- covered at the top with a tunnel-like entrance (door) in and out. Personally I've never subscribed to "alphas have dens and omegas have nests" either way, I actually headcanon alphas especially being more concerned about perceived/claimed "territory" they see themselves as having claimed/being in charge of, such as being protective of their rooms/houses/living quarters etc, as well as lockers, assigned seats, cars, etc, while omega 'territory' protectiveness is more about privacy/safety/comfort, even though it also commonly includes one's own room (for omegas, more specifically, bedrooms) and similar things such as sofas, arm chairs, etc.
Another headcanon I have is that betas especially adore pillow/blanket forts and like building them both just for themselves, as well as big ones to share with the pack. I don't have any particular reasoning because I mean, who doesn't love a blanket fort? I just think it's kind of funny in an endearing way, and a neat idea.

So for some reason I got the idea of designing palaces for “all” of the WOF tribes. The specks that appear in most of these are supposed to be dragons to give a sense of scale.
From top left to bottom right
Rainwing (Modern)
-Modern Rainwings don’t really have “palaces” or separate households for the royal family.
-Most Rainwing “houses” are comprised of a covered platform and a hanging nest (the nest is mostly used by dragonets or for storage). The only difference for the “palace” would be a larger platform for social/diplomatic events, plus some extra adornments.
-The “old” Rainwing palace (not illustrated here, think the Queen Anaconda days) was a far more grandiose structure long sense destroyed in some unknown war (think the classic “lost jungle temple”). Scattered ruins of it can still be found around the main Rainwing village.
Skywing
-Mostly just the arena; it’s constructed out of a natural “bowl” at the base of some big cliffs. It was commissioned by some queen who wanted a big space for grandiose events, with the royal family eventually moving into a structure next to the arena after the old palace got destroyed in some war.
-The palace is mostly buried into the cliffs. Its pretty modest, at least for Scarlet-types (everything’s still probably gilded and studded with jewels)
Mudwing
-A prehistoric tree that has been carved out over time.
-The tree itself is likely older than the Scorching, a relic of the time when the Rainforest extended further into the Mud Kingdom. In modern times, while the area around it is still very tropical, but there are no trees remotely of its size around it.
-Even before being used as the palace, Mudwings and Rainwings alike had lived in hollows in its side for generations upon generations. It got moved into by some hippie queen who thought it would be badass to live in the big-ass tree that probably technically exists in another tribes territory but they chill.
-Likely amunis-touched or otherwise magically enchanted; no matter how much it gets tunneled into, the tree stayed alive.
-Historically, the palace has also took the form of large adobe buildings or wood cabins depending on what materials they have around.
Sandwing
-Originally built as a military fort; most previous palaces had been more on the eastern side of the Kingdom. Almost every queen that has occupied it has thought about building a new one; not one has ever gotten around to it.
-Bum fuck in the middle of nowhere
Icewing
-The only remaining palace that has been continuously used as the palace since its creation.
-Created out of an enchanted glacier overlooking the sea. Over the years many additions have been made, magically created or otherwise It looks utterly insane and defies all laws of physics. Largest palace if you don’t count the whole Wasp Hive as a “palace”.
-It’s considered rude and against tradition to try to remove additions made by previous queens, though many work around less ascetically pleasing features by covering it up with even more stuff. This ends up with kind of a full-on Winchester-house situation, there’s a whole bunch of unused rooms and staircases that go to nowhere.
Bugwing (Wasp Hive)
-I don’t have much to say on this one; this is just what the wasp hive looks like (the actual palace is more like a penthouse somewhere in the middle of it).
Seawing
-I originally was just going to do hydrothermal vents some amunis created; but then I remembered “bubble gardens” where described in the books, so the hydrothermal vents, while still warm (enough to incubate eggs), they aren’t scalding and spewing volcanic fumes
Nightwing (1st volcano)
-This is what the first Nightwing palaces that was created on the volcanic archipelago (not Vigilance era, but maybe the next generation afterward). It’s inside of an extinct volcano that has filled with water (inspired by that one part of 20,000 leagues under the sea). There’s smaller caves that have been carved in the sides, with docks built out into the water.
-This got destroyed in one of the subsequent periods of activity of a the volcano on a nearby island.
-I don’t know what the “old kingdom” palace looked like (maybe like a cave hidden behind a waterfall.
Anyways Leafwings don’t really have a palace because that’s not really part of their culture (“the queen sleeps among her citizens”). A whole colony of Leafwings might end up living in a tree similar to Mudwings, but just one hollow would be reserved for the queen.

Faerie Fort Week Day Three -- Flowers
Good Times, for a Change
Ren is up to something, Lizzie can tell. He's been dodgy all day, avoiding her questions and quickly stowing things in his inventory when she gets too close to the tree he's decided is his guard post, and acting all— shifty, really.
Her first thought is that he's the Boogeyman, but that's quickly discarded, because she was the Boogeyman this week, and she's already lifted the curse. There hasn't been a new one chosen yet.
Her next thought— and she admits the next moment it’s a little unfairly paranoid— is that he's planning to betray her somehow. A part of her rebels at the thought— Ren has been nothing but helpful and loyal so far, and even went so far as to move his entire base so it would be across the river from her. He's sworn to defend her in exchange for that life she gave him, and he seems to be upholding that deal.
Not to mention it's just simply out of character. It's Ren. Ren with his boundless enthusiasm, going out of his way to get her diamonds for armor. Ren, who looms comfortingly at her back when they go to talk to other factions, lending reassurance by his presence alone.
No, of all of her allies, Ren is the one she's least worried about. But that doesn't change the fact that he is up to something, and she wants to know what. Unfortunately, all her wiles and wheedling get her nowhere. Ren— though laughing and apologetic— refuses to tell her what the big secret is. "It's not ready yet," is all he says. "Just— just give it a little bit." Perhaps he sees she's put out, because he hastens to add, "You'll like it! 'Twill be a gift worthy of a Queen. I hope," he finishes, a little sheepishly.
Lizzie gives him an imperious look and turns sharply on her heel. "All right, I'll leave you to your own devices," she calls over her shoulder. Inwardly, though, she's relieved. He's not plotting anything. He's just… being Ren.
The fond smile that crosses her face is almost entirely unconscious.
Lizzie finds other things to occupy herself with— the Fairy Fort still needs securing, and the tunnel to Cleo and BigB's castle isn't finished yet. She takes her wolves and goes hunting for mobs when evening falls; though neither she nor her allies are red or even close to it, stocking up on potion and weapon supplies now is always a good idea.
She returns in the morning, just as the sun is peeking over the treetops. Dragon and Ogre walk on either side of her, panting. Taxes brings up the rear, trotting proudly with a bone clenched tight in her teeth. To her surprise, Ren is there, sitting just inside the gate, his cheek resting on his knees, sound asleep.
"Sit," Lizzie whispers to her wolves, who obediently stop where they are, tongues lolling out of their mouths (except for Taxes, who begins gnawing quietly on her bone). She creeps toward her sleeping knight, mischief on her mind. She eases the gate open, holding her breath, but Ren doesn't stir. She drops into a crouch next to him and then pokes him sharply in the arm. "Ren," she says.
He sits bolt upright, almost falling backwards when he realizes how close Lizzie is. She laughs and stands as he shakes off his disorientation, offering him a hand. When he takes it, pulling himself up, she flinches— his skin is ice-cold.
"Were you out here all night?" she asks, frowning.
Ren tilts his head from side to side, working out the stiffness (there are several audible pops). "Am I in trouble if I say yes?"
Lizzie crosses her arms. "You have a base, Ren."
"But I was waiting for you!" he protests. "I finally finished the, er— the thing!"
Her fond exasperation is immediately set aside. "Oh? Do tell."
He ushers her over to one of the fallen logs they often use for seating beside the pond. Lizzie's wolves trail behind them, finding a good spot to lay down. "Here, one second." He pauses, then flaps a hand at her. "Close your eyes, it's a surprise!"
Lizzie rolls said eyes, but closes them dutifully. She feels something light settle on the top of her head, and she opens her eyes to see Ren's proud smile in front of her.
"Now you look the part," he says, with no small amount of satisfaction. He goes down to one knee and presses his fist over his heart in a salute. "My Queen."
Lizzie catches sight of her reflection in the pond and realizes what it is he's given her— a crown made of flowers, pink and blue and gold. She takes it off gently, so she can get a better look at it. She can see the progress— the knots and braiding in the stems get cleaner as she follows their line around the circle. "Ren," she says, and the sudden upswell of fondness she feels is almost enough to cut off the rest of her words. "This is lovely." She returns the crown to her head and takes Ren's offered hand to get to her feet. As he pulls her up, she uses the momentum to press a kiss to his cheek. "I appreciate this gift, O most loyal of knights mine."
The rose-red blush blooming on Ren's cheeks is almost better than the crown of flowers.

Tsurara-Onna - CR13 Fey
Are you interrupting my bath?
Artwork by Kakiman on Pixiv.
The story of the tsurara-onna is sometimes confused with the yuki-onna, a spirit of a woman who froze to death. They're both ice women that originate from Japanese mythology, but a tsurara-onna is a much less malevolent creature. It comes from a story about a man who was lonely and wished for a wife, and the tsurara-onna appeared and fell in love with him. But, depending on the version of the story, she accidentally stabbed him to death when his roof collapsed while she was in icicle form, or melted when he forced her to take a bath. The moral of the story is to fix your porch and accept your stinky wife, I guess.
Tsurara-onna - CR 13

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Slow (Su) A tsurara-onna induces numbing cold if it hits with its longspear or a touch attack. The opponent must succeed on a DC 24 Fortitude save or be affected as though by a slow spell for 1d6 rounds. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Breath Weapon (Su) A tsurara-onna has a breath weapon which deals 10d6 cold damage in a 60 foot cone. A DC 24 Reflex save halves this damage. A creature that takes damage from a tsurara-onna's breath weapon must succeed a DC 24 Fortitude save or be blinded for 1d6 rounds. It can use this breath weapon once every 1d4 rounds. The save DCs are Constitution-based.
Frost Longspear (Su) A tsurara-onna's longspear is made of ice, and a hit from it deals additional damage if the tsurara-onna is wielding it. This additional damage is already included in its statistics above.
Ice Glide (Su) A tsurara-onna can use its burrow speed to move through ice without penalty, as easily as a fish swims through water. It leaves no tunnel or trace of its passage. It can only use its burrow speed in ice.
Icicle Shape (Su) As a full-round action, a tsurara-onna can transform into an icicle and hang from a ceiling within 30 feet directly above her. While she is transformed, this functions similarly to tree shape, except that her form is an icicle instead of a tree, and is attached to a ceiling. She can dismiss this effect as a free action.
Sacred Ice (Su) A tsurara-onna gains a sacred bonus to AC and attack rolls equal to its Charisma bonus. This is already included in its statistics.
Snowstorm (Su) A tsurara-onna is surrounded by whirling blasts of snow, even in areas that wouldn’t allow for such weather, that comprise a 200-foot-radius spread. Within this area, the snowfall and wind gusts cause a -4 penalty on Perception checks and ranged attacks. The wind itself blows in a clockwise rotation around the tsurara-onna, and functions as severe wind. A tsurara-onna is unaffected by snowstorms or blizzards of any kind. Any effect that causes these winds to drop below severe (such as control weather or control winds) cancels the snowstorm effect entirely.
Warm Water Weakness (Ex) A tsurara-onna takes 4d6 damage per round if mostly submerged in warm water (80 F or higher). If it takes this damage, it loses its fast healing for 1 hour. This damage happens at the start of each of its turns.

9 & 16 , Edgy/misc OC ask meme for myr
Hello JoJo! Thank you for your question 💙💙
9. specific lyric or quote which you associate with [Myr]: oh boy I love quotes I try my best to write them down somewhere so I can check them later for inspiration. Let me scatter some of my documents here *search search check check skip skip*
...aah! Here's a few examples of what I have for Myr! I had more saved up in the actual books but they're currently all on boxes waiting to move to my new place...
"Sono io la morte / e porto corona, io son di tutti voi / signora e padrona, e così sono crudele / così forte sono e dura, che non mi fermeranno le tue mura." - Ballo in Fa# Minore, Angelo Branduardi
[I am Death / and wear the crown, I am of all of you / ruler and mistress, and so I am cruel / so mighty and enduring I am, that your walls shall not hinder me.]
"And couldst thou "faithful" add? 0 name, 0 sacred name of faithfulness profaned! Faithful to whom? to thy rebellious crew, Army of fiends? Fit body to fit head!" - Paradise Lost, John Milton
I've been there before I felt the fear, I feared the cold Imprisoned in lies Illusions of flames, only in my mind
I opened my eyes To a brand new world A place where darkness Is meant to show your inner light - I Am the Storm, Ad Infinitum
16. What is [Myr]'s pain tolerance like: Myr is really tough when it comes to pain tolerance. She's broken multiple bones during her life because of her habit to climb trees or structures to avoid getting caught after breaking the rules of the Cavalieri, and in general would often get into fights with both normal members and a certain relative of hers (which hopefully I'll be able to introduce shortly after Teodoro!). When she fights she gets tunnel vision and due to her confidence she often gets hurt more than necessary. Since her injuries wouldn't get treated with the appropriate priority while living with the Cavalieri, she learnt to suffer for long periods of time before expecting relief - not saying she'd do that just fine, but she'd definitely underestimate the risks of falling into such situations.

Last thing I dreamt before waking was a surprisingly detailed encounter with a Dwarf Fortress mechanic that definitely doesn't exist yet.
My fort was a complicated network of tunnels, bits of it resembled Ghostpainted but it wasn't that one, for some reason I had a Tanner's Workshop on its own in a fairly deep & large room when I got a major alert saying it had been destroyed by "crevivation", which is not a word but apparently my brain thought it fitting because when I looked over a massive crevice was running through the room which went all the way down to the first cavern layer.
I naturally checked the wiki for it, and the article said it was introduced at the same time as the power overhaul (which hasn't happened) and was an oft-overlooked mechanic for some kind of super-effective pasture, followed by a suitably complex tutorial on setting one up which involved some unfamiliar minor noble position, the title escapes me but it involved some sort of psychic or divining powers.
In remarkable time the room had gone from being barren with a fissure down the middle to being filled with floor fungus, several tower cap trees and most notably a decently-sized fresh water pool on one side, which I designated a water source while making the super-pasture as the wiki described.
None of this actually exists in reality, but Wikipedia tells me highly fractured rocks can make good aquifers (which explains the pool) and hydrocarbon reservoirs (which explains why a power overhaul added them), which is a startling coincidence considering I didn't actually know that before my subconscious came up with it.

If it were not so I would have told you
Elevation dreams, long walk in a green tunnel to an overlook so far down we had to look away. I took a picture and went back. My buddy got tired, he wanted to lie down. I remembered in the smokies, that time. The trail was crisscrossing the road, but the south too, fault lines shoulder, piece of meat, and bone. Crossing again, or not. Later on a mountainside with the giant fallen trees, lumberjacks on stilts, we needed to get above that, that they might not roll on us. Pines, poplars, whatever that can grow that tall and round
Test driving multiple cars, none for sale. Gatlinburg fort payne up and down like we had all that time
What if your life is pregnant. What if this is a dream, or a warning

Pet Irkens: Enrichment and Care
Pet Irkens are pretty distinct in the exact types of enrichment and care they need. They can be best described as a mix of cats and dogs as the things for then could work for these little bug thingies.
Pet Irkens like to scratch and climb things, so something like a cat tree could work. They also like to hide in dark places and burrow, so cat tunnels or a box fort with blankets are good enough. You might have to be more elaborate with the larger Irkens, but it's not an unreasonable step up.
Obviously, not every Pet Irken is the same. Some of them like little Zim are happy with an old sock and cardboard box while others like Miyuki prefer more elaborate setups. Some like Skoodge and Tenn are a bit in-between, while others like Tak are content to just chill.

BasilKel Swap Prologue Part 4
VAST FOREST- PATH TO FORT
After stopping by Mari’s picnic again, the party made their way south of the playground, then further past the crossroads, until they came across the familiar tunnel entrance that led to the brother’s house.
It was a wide tunnel, even at its entrances, and it cleaved straight through the forest dirt, surrounded by tree roots along the walls and ceiling, and glowing gems of all colors inlaid in and poking out of the floor. The biggest gems stood up out of the dirt, shining in the middle of the pathway and leaving the entire path lit up. In Omori's opinion, This-Way-Stones were the best way to see in dark caves.
Kel grinned at them as they made their way further down. “Y’know, everytime I’m down here, I remember just how cool this place is! Y’know, I actually helped dig this tunnel! Me and Hector!”
“Hector?” Basil asked. “Who’s that? I don’t remember meeting anyone who could dig this whole tunnel by themself.”
Kel huffed, sticking out his tongue. “It wasn’t on his own! I told you, I helped! And anyway, Hector’s a Pet Rock I found a while back! He came from Otherworld, and he’s super cool! I wanted to show you guys today, but I… couldn’t find him.” Kel ducked his head away as he stepped around a tall blue gem. Hero looked over at Aubrey, and she looked away, sweating. “I swear, I know where I put him, but he wasn’t there at all! I hope he didn’t run off without saying goodbye…”
“Well, I think Aubrey might-”
Aubrey yelled suddenly, interrupting Hero. “LOOK AT THAT!!” She pointed at a Lost Sprout Mole kicking one of the brighter gems. The deep blue crystal made a quiet clunk and seemed to get darker with each kick. “What’s that Sprout Mole doing?”
Kel looked, and jumped into action. “Huh? Hey! Stop that!” he yelled. “If you break that, we won’t be able to see where we’re going!”
The Sprout Mole stared at him for a second, then gave it another hard kick.
“Wha-! You!”
‘Kel engaged the Lost Sprout Mole!’
‘What will Kel do?’
‘Kel attacks Lost Sprout Mole! Lost Sprout Mole takes 10 damage.’
He threw his ball at the mole, knocking it over and letting it flail on the ground for a second. Then he seemed to get an idea.
‘Lost Sprout Mole is rolling around.’
“Hey, Basil! C’mere!” Kel turned and waved him over. Basil blanched at him, but approached anyway.
“What’s- What’s going on?”
Kel clapped a hand on his shoulder, grinning. “I’m gonna teach you how to fight! Then, you can go anywhere! Doesn’t that sound awesome?!”
Basil scrunched in on himself, flustering. “Is it really necessary? I mean, I,” he gestured out weakly. “I’ve got you guys to help me!”
“Yeah, but what if you don’t? Like, you get lost or something? Trust me, I know what I’m talking about!”
Aubrey snorted from where she was watching them. “Yeah, he does.”
“Thank you, Aub-”
“Kel gets lost all the time, remember?”
Kel sulked, suddenly blue, and Basil giggled.
“Well, alright. I guess I can give it a shot?”
‘Basil joined Kel’s party!’
“Okay, so, your skills right now are Wallflower, Guard, and… Tend!” Kel summarized cheerfully. "Guard, anyone can do that. It makes you take less damage! Stuff hurts less when you expect it! Like this!"
He crossed his arms over his face, adjusting his stance to take a hit.
'Kel guards.'
Basil nodded. "That makes sense, I think." Kel grinned, and continued.
"Alright! Wallflower's pretty cool! You ask someone on your side for help keeping you safe!" He pointed his thumb at his own chest. "You hide behind them, and any attacks that would hit you hit your friend instead!"
The green haired boy's face fell. "But, I don't want my friends to get hurt!" He whined, and Kel reached up and patted his head.
"Don't worry! Really!" When he didn't look convinced, the other laughed. "You don't have a lot of endurance, just like me, right? So if you get hurt, it'll hurt you worse than, like, Omori or Hero! It's, uh… What’s the word again, Hero?"
He turned to his brother, ignoring the fuming Sprout Mole, and Hero thought it over.
"Relative?"
"YEAH, THANK YOU!!" Kel cheered, and turned back to Basil. "If you take 10 damage, that's relatively more damage than if Hero takes 10! 'Cause, you're more soft and squishy and cute! It’d be bad if you got hurt!"
"C-cute? What-"
"Anyway!" Kel barged forward, ignoring Basil’s stuttering. "Try using Wallflower, and hide behind me!"
‘Basil hides behind Kel! Kel gets ready to counter!’
The Sprout Mole charged forward, smacking into Kel’s leg, and Kel kicked out, launching it.
‘Lost Sprout Mole bumps into Kel! Kel takes 2 damage! Kel counters! Lost Sprout Mole takes 10 damage!’
“Yeah, just like that!” The caped-boy cheered.
Basil watched the Sprout Mole stomp itself upright uneasily, then tugged on Kel’s cape. “Hey, Kel? Just a little question, but why is the Sprout Mole… glowing?”
“Heh! It's because the Sprout Mole is ANGRY, see Basil?” Kel pointed as the plant creature shook its head back and forth. Basil nodded, looking confused. “Enemies feel EMOTIONS, too, you know! Not just normal ones! And in battle, they change how you fight! So, you gotta remember what EMOTION does what!”
“Oh, uh, right. I’ve never seen them in a fight before. ANGRY makes you… hit harder, right?”
Kel cheered. “Yeah! ANGRY brings your ATTACK up! But you’re not being careful, so your DEFENSE goes down. Got it?”
He hummed, nodding slowly. “Defense down, attack up… So, now would be a good time to use Wallflower, so that I don’t get hurt, and the opponent takes damage?”
“Perfect!” Kel held up his hand for a high five, and Basil nervously clapped his hand.
‘Kel cheers Basil on! Basil feels HAPPY! Basil HIT RATE rose!’
‘Kel’s party was victorious! Gained 22 exp! Gained 3 clams!’
Sprout mole defeated, Kel stepped forward to check on the glowing crystal. He knocked on it and when it made a bell-like chime, turned back with a cheerful smile.
“Looks like the This-Way-Stone is A-Okay!” He said, giving a thumbs up. “You’re pretty good at this Basil!”
“Huh? R-Really? Heh heh,” Basil blushed as he looked away, Aubrey snickering into her hand. “I was just listening to what you said, Kel... But um, thanks anyway.”
“Hey, Kel? Don’t we have a book of enemies we’ve fought before?” Hero asked, and Kel jumped in place, eyes wide.
“Oh yeah, we totally did!”
“Did?” Hero gave Kel an unimpressed look, and the younger brother looked sheepish.
“I, uh, may have lost it?”
Hero sighed, looking tired, but Kel rushed to speak before he could get a word in.
“BUT IT'S OKAY! Beeecause of this! TA-DA!” Kel held out his camcorder, and shoved it into Omori’s hands. “My camera will be super useful for keeping track of stuff you come across! Weird enemies, confusing places, cool events, even battle techniques- You can take notes on everything! So, while it’s not /as/ cool as Hero’s Foe Facts! or Self Help books, you can use it for both! And, to review what you were doing last. Go wild!”
Omori looked over the camcorder, turning it this way and that, before finally pocketing it.
‘Kel gave you Kel’s Camera.’
Hero huffed, shaking his head. “Kel, what did I tell you about messing with my stuff?”
Kel went silent, glancing around, before his eyes caught on something down the tunnel. “Woah, what’s going on over there?!”
“Kelsey,” the older brother began, but Kel was already off like a bullet. Aubrey snickered behind her hand again as Basil giggled, and Hero just stared at the tunnel’s ceiling and sighed.
Kel and Basil faced down another Lost Sprout Mole- this one skipping and dancing so gleefully, that it had covered the nearby red glowing gems with dirt and hidden the path forward. Kel had eagerly jumped into battle, Basil dragged behind him, as Hero tried to clean enough of the gems to proceed.
‘What will Kel and Basil do?’
“Okay! Kel tutorial number two! Make sure to record this, Omori!” Kel cheered, pointing at the Sprout Mole. “This one’s HAPPY, see? Higher speed, and a higher chance to hit weak spots.”
Basil looked it over. “But if you’re skipping and playing like that, won’t you miss your attacks?”
“EX-actly! You're doing great, Basil!” Kel cheered.
‘Kel encourages Basil! Basil’s ATTACK rose! Basil’s DEFENSE rose!’
The Sprout Mole did a spin, and bumped into Basil’s leg. He jumped up, eyes wide.
‘The Lost Sprout Mole bumps into Basil! IT HIT RIGHT IN THE HEART! Basil takes 1 damage!’
Kel clapped his hands together, looking like he was fighting back a laugh. “Alright! It’s your turn to attack now!”
Basil looked up in horror, eyes wide. “Huh? Me? Are you sure?”
“Mm hmm! You should give it a shot! Then, you can handle yourself against other monsters!”
His face scrunched up in hesitancy. He glanced over to where the others were, Aubrey bouncing in place, Omori sitting on the tunnel floor, and Hero brushing spare dirt off his pajamas, having finished tidying the crystals. Omori handed Hero the camcorder, who sighed as he continued recording.
“Come on Basil!” Aubrey called, throwing her hands into the air. “You can do it!”
Basil tensed, then pulled his Jump Rope from his waist. Glanced up again, then squeezed his eyes shut and snapped the toy out at the Mole.
‘Basil attacks the Lost Sprout Mole! Lost Sprout Mole takes 12 damage!’
He peeked an eye open, flicking about over the battle, then relaxed when he saw the Sprout Mole skipping away from him.
“Nice hit Basil!” the caped boy tugged on his arm, eyes gleaming. “I think that's about all of the stuff this battle can teach you, soo… Let's finish this!”
Basil watched him for a moment, then stepped up next to him. “O-okay!”
‘Kel’s party was victorious! Gained 18 exp! Gained 4 clams!’
Hero hummed as Basil dusted himself off. “That’s the second ENEMY with EMOTION we’ve come across. That’s pretty odd, isn’t it?”
The green haired boy looked up, head tilting. “Is it? But, didn’t Kel say it was normal?”
Aubrey hummed, mouth a thin line. “It’s normal, but normally we’ll meet like, one or two in any area! They’re not super common. Right, Omori?” He looked her over, then gave a thumbs up. “Yeah, see! So two of them, so close together… It almost seems kinda important.”
“OHH!” Kel jumped up, glowing such a vibrant yellow that it hurt to look at. Omori squinted at him. “Just like a hero story, right?! Like, maybe a meteor’ll come from the sky! Or maybe-”
He gasped, and glowed brighter. A swirl of pink spun through the glow. Already? “MAYBE WE’RE GONNA GET /SUPERPOWERS/!!” He jumped in place for a moment, then rushed past them, running full speed around the room.
“Kel,” Hero began, and the younger brother skidded to a stop in front of him.
“HERO!! COME ON, THAT’LL BE SO COOL!” Kel flapped his hands, bouncing in place. “WE COULD BE SUPERHEROES!!”
Hero grabbed his shoulders, cutting him off, “Kel, hey. Let’s calm down a little, okay?”
“Huh? Aw man, do I have to?” Kel whined, but even as he did, the yellow faded away into nothing.
“Sorry, Kel. Maybe later,” Hero ruffled his hair, and turned towards the revealed path. “Let’s keep going, alright?”
“Outside ahoy!” Kel cheered, rushing through the end of the tunnel. Aubrey was only a second behind him, the other three content to just walk. “Ow! What the heck, Aubrey?”
Aubrey had whacked his arm with her plushy none too gently. “That doesn’t even make any sense!”
“You don’t need to hit me over it! Really!?” he argued back, and Hero sighed.
“Okay, that’s enough, you two. Look, right there, Mari’s just ahead at her picnic. Can we play nice for now?” He offered, and they glanced at each other before looking pointedly away. He sighed again.
Basil patted his arm in quiet sympathy.
Omori started walking up towards the others, then paused. A glint of blue caught his eye, and he turned his head, watching carefully.
“Omori?” Basil noticed his stillness. “Is… something wrong?” He glanced at the others, was given a confused shrug. Kel walked closer and followed his eyes into the thinner parts of the forest.
Right on the edge of the treeline, there it was.
‘Hidden in plain sight, you find a SAD Lost Sprout Mole.’
“Oh, it’s just a Sprout Mole. I didn’t even notice, heh heh!”
“Wow, really?” Aubrey bounced up next to Omori’s other side, then grinned. “There is! You’ve got good eyes, Omori!”
‘Oh. Well, that’s boring.’
Kel’s eyes went wide, “Oh, wait a sec! Basil, come on! It’s your time to shine!”
“Another fight? All on my own?” He stuttered, and Hero smiled softly.
“Hey, you were great before, and we’ll be right behind you in case anything happens.” The eldest reassured. Basil stared at him, then at the rest of the group.
“... Okay. I’ll… I’ll give it a shot!”
The friends cheered as Basil stepped forward into his first solo battle.

I actually don't specifically celebrate Xmas but I do love this time of year!
Imma just do some rapid fire cuz I'm bad at schedule posting
1. Fave tradition is riding in the car and looking at the lights! Two houses in my town go really all out!
2. I like being indoors more, so I like drinking coco or warm apple cider or Chai latte and look out the window at the pretty white-blue sky! I used to really like sledding but I can't physically do that anymore.
3. I love standing there as the fluffy snow comes down! Otherwise I stay inside and watch it!
4. Fave Xmas song: Believe (polar express Josh Groban), December Song (Peter Hollens), and lots of a cappella ones!
5. I just want everyone to have a good winter season! Of course I like presents, but I don't have a significant other, caregiver, or even any close friends. So most things I want I put on a personal wishlist and buy when I can. ... I guess right now I'm saving up to buy some video games!
6. Polar Express! Christmas Story! The Santa Clause! A few specific Hallmark movies like A Bramble House Christmas! And lots more but I can't think of more right now.
7. Most of my favorite gifts have come from my bio mom, she's really good at listening about my interests! A few years ago she got me lots of Octonauts toys!
8. I love giving gifts! When I was younger I'd buy gifts for my family when I was with friends, hide them in my closet, and wrap them myself. When I had a big group of pals I'd take the time to get everything personalized and special for them! But it's been awhile since I had pals like that... My bio mom likes scarves and I still have fun finding new ones for her during the season!
9. I color on Happy Color sometimes and they have holiday stuff!
10. Fave holiday snacks would be sweet drinks and chocolates and pastries!
11. Fave holiday food: not sure. I like ham but I like that any time of year!
12. Not really.
13. I like light strings!
14. I have some holiday colored plaid overshirts! And some "ugly sweater" patterned joggers! And some comfy dresses with cute print! Stuff for all the occasions really
15. Skip cuz basically already answered
16. I like lots of them but I'm totally going to say Polar Express again. Or the Snowman!
17. I have a Husky. He sits and lays in the snow all the time! He loves digging in it too!
18. Igloo? Long time ago and not well. I liked digging tunnels in big piles of snow though and making forts!
19. Fake tree that I reuse whenever I do put it up. It's a lot of work + kinda big so it's not up every year. But I'm allergic to a lot of things, pine trees included.
20. Santa Claus is awesome! The spirit of joy and giving from old stories is great. And I love when Santa shows up in movies and shows!
21. I'm not a good singer (even though I like singing a lot on my own) so I've never gone.
22. I like eating gingerbread and I like the idea, but I haven't made a house in a long time.
23. I watch fun movies and stay in comfy clothes and have warm yummy drinks!
24. Xmas eve is a good drive and look at lights time!
25. I've liked Xmas day in recent years where I just relax and do whatever I want! Nothing else specific cuz I enjoy warm yummy drinks, cute comfy clothes, and holiday movies any time of year that the mood strikes me!
