Love how the saying “what the actual fuck” implies that the fuck we regularly use isn’t the real one. Along with there also being a genuine fuck which I’m not sure if that is separate from an actual fuck.
Maybe the tru fuck is “Fornication Under Consent of the King” and therefore we can alternatively say “What the 15th century sex” and get the same point across :)

The more I think about the Penny Lamb/Jane Doe comparison, the weirder I find it that ppl think Legoland Penny is different to RTC Penny.
You think there are two Penny Lambs at the same school in the same small town? They both have dolls, are both weird/social outcasts, both randomly drop strange facts.
Jane's catchprase is an animal fact, Penny calls herself an "aspiring animal conservationalist". And "luckiest girl in town" absolutely sounds like Penny (like how she accidentally got out of the cult-y drug farm she lived in). And they have the same hair according to the legoland script and the most common rtc bootleg.
Also it makes sense bc the only family Penny had was a 14 year old that would probably never cooperate with an authority figure. The only friend she had didn't seem very close to her canonly (imo bc she was barely mentioned)
Like this is a super small town, that would be such a a massive coincidence. Why wouldn't she be the same person?

μέν it's good that people are finally being skeptical of Fun Facts About Language that they see on the internet; δέ it's extremely funny to me that i've seen people doing it most on the κακοθηρές (bad at summer) post, both the original flavor tumblr post and the knockoff twitter screenshot, because while i didn't know it before i first saw the post it's definitely the kind of thing a natural philosopher would say

no clue if you'll know this, but... linguistic origin/evolution of a curse word:
i've heard it said that "f*ck" comes from a time of regulated reproduction (?), and is an acronym for "Fornication Under Consent of King". I honestly doubt that that is the origin, but it's likely you'll know more about the origin of a word than me!
good skeptic eye for folk etymology! it is definitely not from an acronym (and afaik there was never "regulated reproduction" in england beyond religious circumscriptions). the actual origin of "fuck" is uncertain - which doesn't surprise me, since taboo words don't get the same documentation. i personally lean toward an etymology related to verbs for repetitive motion, since there are both internal and cross-linguistic comparisons among slang terms for sex with similar semantic origins (cf. "bang").

One of my favourite little details in RTC is just Jane's sheer commitment to the bit
Like, girl has no idea who she is or what she's doing here, but she really puts everything into her little background antics and I love it
Like with the nativity play scene, not only does she get Noel's reference to the point that she's able to say the next line without missing a beat, but she actually does it with a completely straight face, brilliant...
Then obviously there's her little "fornication under consent of the king", but also I love how after Ocean says she loves her, Jane immediately goes in for a hug. Also the little dance she does as she holds the mic for Constance while she does her lil recorder solo...

I will quote rtc and then people would look at me like I'm crazy
Like wdym you don't get it when I say "fornication under consent of the king", "how do we know it's my birthday?" (you better recreate the whole interaction with me if I do say it), "then we must hang ourselves immediately!", etc etc
My grammar sucks btw idk why but I feel like I should mention that

Fornication Under Consent of the King!

Was feeling a bit nostalgic for Ride the Cyclone and suffice to say I'm pretty happy with how this turned out!
Thank you to @/ivorypiano for their Jane Doe design and being chill with me posting the redraw!
