The Wayhaven Chronicles—Update 04/Oct/2024 

It wasn’t the week I planned, but oh boy, was it another seriously productive week!

I started on finishing up the chapter 4 edits and rewrites, getting those done just as my editor sent through the chapter 3 edits! So, I figured seeing as I was on an editing spree, I would skip the social media days this week and just slam through all of that to get it done.

So there were no asks this week, but I did get the first Autumn Scenario Specials up—always fun to write a soft!M, but even more so in this cosy season, hehe! ;D

And it was totally worth focusing on the edits as I got all of it finished, including bug testing chapter 4 too! I’ll be sending my edited version of chapter 4 to my editor to do the final tidy-ups, and chapter 3 is also now ready to send for the final phase to the last set of readers and sensitivity readers to be completed.

There was the weirdest bug ever in chapter 3, but was eventually sorted super easily, but it did have me puzzled for a while, lol!

So, with all of that done way quicker than expected, I moved onto writing the next chapter too! And I’m already slamming through that :D

Chapter 5 is definitely more intensive than the nice smooth, shortness of Chapter 4, but there’s a lot going on again, as well as the variations of meetings with some recurring characters, so got to make sure those make an impact! ;D

So yeah, it was quite the week!

But to make up for not doing social media days, I will be spending most of next week making up for that. I’m actually hoping to spend more time on those so I can get October’s and November’s content done in one, as I am thinking of something a bit more intensive and fun for December…but I need time to pull it off, so getting ahead on social media now will mean I will hopefully get the chance to what I’m excited for!

The Coming Discourse Vacuum

Food for thought in a post-Twitter world

I originally published this piece 2022-11-18 on my blog, but then forgot to share lol. Thought it was relevant again with the Twitter/Reddit/Bluesky/Threads talk this past month.

There is no doubt that Twitter is collapsing. Millions of bytes have flown over the last few weeks describing the chaos both on the platform and in the private domain of its offices. Advertisers have pulled out, poorly thought out technical decisions have been made, hastily designed products have shipped, the majority of staff have either been fired or walked out the door, and the new owner and CEO is publicly melting down ON the platform for all the world to see. Some real grade A content if you will. The Adam McKay movie is writing itself. Yet as dumb as the whole saga is, it feels like there’s clearly something else at stake here, some sort of loss being felt. As much of a carnival as Twitter has always been, there is social value in it.

The widespread recording and reporting of police brutality in communities leading to the Black Lives Matter movement and the George Floyd protests of 2020 likely couldn’t have occurred without it. Last year when a wildfire broke out in the north suburbs of Denver, I used the platform to get almost real-time info and pass it on to friends and family living close to the disaster.

It’s the place to go for breaking & front page news. To hear the latest japes and gossip. It’s one of the town squares of the internet. And now it’s on fire while a lone, pathetic, billionaire is trying to rip it apart and sell it for scrap after buying it on a whim.

So, what’s next?

Some people are starting to look for the future in newer, less established spaces. But what if before our society immediately moves on to the next big thing, we take a step back to dream of a green field. If we could do it all over again, what should it look like?

To start with let’s talk about the elephant in the room, Mastodon, which is one of the new things that people have been migrating towards. Mastodon is part of the Fediverse, a collection of open source tools and platforms that prize decentralized architecture first and foremost. This means allowing anyone to host their own instance of a server and then connecting it to other servers in a federated model to gain network effects.

So instead of just one single giant ship plying the shitposting seas, it’s a bunch of rafts lashed together. If you don’t like how things are going, you can untie your raft and set off on your own. Or that’s the idea anyway.

But in my experience I’ve found the whole system unintuitive and overwhelming despite the fact that I write software for a living. Where am I supposed to make an account? How do I make sure I’m in the same network as the funny people I was following on Twitter? Does anyone in this federation even live in my state?

The barrier to entry is too high and the core architecture of Fediverse software fragments the new social network right out of the gate, undermining the very reason Twitter was useful in the first place. The replacement has to be centralized, it has to be the same place everyone agrees to show up. That’s how town squares work.

Another consideration for this future digital town square should be democratic controls baked into it from the start. The goal here is to keep any one particular petulant owner from taking control of the whole thing. This is ostensibly the purpose of federation in Mastodon, but I’m talking about even lower level controls. Elected moderators to patrol the space and ways to debate and decide the rules that govern the space. Baked in polls for voting on anything from names to new channels to modifying community guidelines. Focus on democratically controlling a single instance from within its own framework before jumping straight to federation.

Lastly, just like how a good tax base helps keep public places clean and maintained, this theoretical future platform would need some mechanism for collecting monetary support from its users, instead of an ad driven model. Ad driven platforms will always be forced to sacrifice the user experience for driving advertiser metrics.Instead let's talk about things like up-front registration fees or monthly supporter tiers, cosmetic items or badges for purchase, and publicly published operational budgets so users know how much they need to open their wallets. We could even dream of an honest to god new state-run utility that can actually levy taxes to manage and operate the platform!

As I’m writing this piece, one of the top trends on Twitter is literally #RIPTwitter. Even if the website technically lives on past tonight, it’s clear that it has lost the trust and confidence of its community, the lifeblood of any social media platform. So as we stagger out of this burning square, we should all take a moment to unplug, touch some grass, talk to our friends and family around our kitchen tables, and take a deep breath. In that moment of quiet, let’s dream about something better, before we go back to looking for something to fill the vacuum.

Okay, a few updates before I disappear again:

I have a couple more fics set in the same universe as World gone MAD that you'll be seeing over the next couple weeks since World Gone MAD was actually the last fic that I finished even though it was supposed to go first.

After that, my goal is to get Ch 2 of Batman for Dummies finished up.

So I do have a rough (and I mean rough) first draft for this fic complete but it's not really working for me right now. So that means, it's going to go sit in the back of my drive for a while until I forget that I don't actually like it. (The last time this happened where I had a complete rough draft that I was unhappy with for nebulous reason, it sat around for about year so…) I hope to return to it eventually, but I'm also not going to publish it if I'm not happy with.

Just finished reading the Joon B-day fic ☺️ I was wondering why the premise was so familiar then I remembered, you asked us in a poll of who Joon really is, right? It was an ex, a husband, or a childhood bff. I already forgot what I chose but all were great choices so I didn’t mind what was chosen. And I really did love reading this. My fav was the last part, the “i’ll always choose you” 😭 Childhood bffs to lovers is one of fav trope and this fic just hits 😫 This was really written well and I am looking forward to how she will tell him her decision (cause come on, we know your decision love 😏)

“Keigo this is insane! Get down!” 

You stood on the ground in front of you and Keigo’s home. He had your three year old toddler on his shoulders, grinning down from the roof of the building. She was bumbling and laughing, clearly excited to use her wings. You couldn’t help but he panicked as you stood below, looking up with a clear uncertainty in your heart.

Over the past couple of weeks, your beautiful daughter’s wings had grown in and she was flapping around a lot. She tried jumping off counter tops and desks to fly a bit, with Keigo of course watching her every move. Her little legs moving fast as she ran, her cute red wings flapping behind her. Of course she had her father’s quirk. 

Keigo couldn’t be more proud of his little bird, flapping his wings showing her how he would take flight. He’d hover around, flying up to the high ceiling of your expensive home, smiling down at her. 

Keigo came down as your toddler laughed and giggled, her hands extended to him as she called out “Up! Up!” excitedly. Keigo smiled a bright smile and scooped her up flying into the air, his body spinning as they went. He made it close to the ceiling, his wings extending out wide as he held her out in front of him. You watched, amused from the couch as he flew around, not fast, holding her close to his chest. 

She laughed, her arms outstretched as her little wings flapped. “Wee!” she shouted as the flew in the air “I’m going to fly like daddy!” 

Keigo landed softly, setting her down before rubbing her hair. “You’re going to fly just like daddy.” he said, smiling softly. He stood up straight crossing his arms and smiling down at her. “You know what kid, I think it’s time you learn to fly.” he said, his hand to his chin. Your daughter gasped, jumping around happily. “Can I? Can I? Daddy, I fly?” she asked, her voice high as she bounced in front of Keigo. 

“Yeah c’mon kiddo let’s go.” Keigo replied, scooping her up into his arms and walking towards the door. It wasn’t until he got to the door that you realized he was being serious. 

You turned, standing up from the couch. “Where are you going?” Keigo turned, holding your daughter in his right arm. “To teach my baby bird to fly.” he said nonchalantly before spreading his wings and flying out of the door, with you running after him.

Now here you were, watching as your husband held your daughter on his shoulders, standing on your rooftop. 

“Keigo you need to be careful!” you shouted up to him, your panic sinking in. 

“She’s my kid babe! She’ll be fine!” he shouted back before grabbing his daughter under her arms and holding her out in front of him. He turned her to face him. 

“Alright kid flap your wings for me.” he said smiling, making sure to keep her calm. Your toddler happily flapped her small wings, kicking her legs a little, giggling. Keigo grinned. “Alright listen, if you want to fly you have to listen to daddy and do what he says okay.” he said, his face becoming slightly more serious. 

Your daughter nodded happily. “Otay daddy.” she bumbled happily. Keigo nodded and turned her back to him. 

“Flap your wings.” he said, your toddler flapped her wings. “Don’t stop flapping okay.” he added. Your toddler nodded. 

Keigo held your toddler by her hands, her wings helping support her, her body in a T. Keigo grinning happily. “Look you’re already hovering!” he said excitedly. You looked on. A mix of pride that your daughter was supporting her own weight, and fear. You knew Keigo would never let any harm come to her, but you still had worry in your heart. 

Keigo pulled his wings back, bent his knees and took off, holding your daughter by her hands. Her wings flapped furiously as Keigo glided in the air, your daughter’s wings keeping her in her T pose in front of him. 

“You’re flying baby bird!” *he shouted happily in the air. Your daughter got excited, squealing happily and calling down to you. “I’m flying, look I’m flying!” she called out happily. You clapped your hands, happily watching them. 

Keigo flew in a few circles around the house before softly landing in front of you. He set your toddler down, her tiny wings dropping. Keigo looked down kneeling beside her. “Can you keep flapping?” he asked. She looked up at him and shook her head. 

“It’s okay sometimes our wings get tired.” he said reassuringly. He scooped her up into his arms. “Cookies and juice can help.” he added, grinning. Your daughter got excited, chanting ‘Juice and Cookies’ over and over again. 

You followed behind them. Such a beautiful baby bird, such tiny wings.

June Doll Haul

A variety of doll things last month! Didn’t manage to get all the shippers, oh well. I had planned to spend the bulk of my doll fund on the Madra Screen Test Trunk set, but then I lost the auction 😭. So I just chose some other little things that were on my wish list with the fund.

Only two dolls, both Violets. I ordered them at the beginning of the month, too. Repaints already done. 

Swingtime Serenade Violet - I named her Camille. I wanted a Violet with an updo, and this one had unique earrings so she was the one I picked. $107.50 winning bid and not even a shipper 😑

Torch Song Violet - I wanted the flapper hair cut. And I’m so pleased with how the deep red lip and nail color came out with this doll! I named her Pilar. $110, I bought her from the same seller as I got my Very Violet last month. Tbh, at that price I was surprised she was still up a few weeks later. Note the embroidery and beading on her costume, it’s quite something.

What’s a Girl to Wear? - well after I missed out on the Madra trunk set, I decided to treat myself to one of the two Gene trunks. $50, shipper included. Quite a steal imo. Not a scratch on it, looks like never even taken from the box. The other trunk is white and I’ve only seen it on eBay a couple times, so I expect I’ll pay more for it someday.

St Moritz outfit - $22.50, no shipper. I wanted the red boots and red stud earrings, but also look at the tiny doll skis and ski polls! Absolutely adorable details. 

Picnic in the Country - $24 w/ shipper. A woman can never have too many red shoes 😂 Cute beaded cherry jewelry.

Mixed lot -  I won this for $33, which is wild because I’ve seen the hanger set alone sell for more than that. No shippers, tho. But now I’ve got three of the four hat and bag sets. I’m not in a rush to collect the last set, but whenever I see it for a reasonable price I guess.

Madra and Gene Director’s Chairs - $48/Madra, $40/Gene. Pricey but I like to support a couple specific doll shops if I afford it. Very cute, I haven’t taken them out of the boxes and set them up because frankly I need more room as it is lol. There is one more for Trent with yellow canvas. They never made one for Violet, or I’d get it, too. But I think that was about the time Mel Odom’s contract with Ashton-Drake was winding down and they stopped manufacturing all the extras and released much fewer dolls. I have my opinions on that, and you’ll note I only collect the AD dolls and accessories; I’m not here for the Integrity and definitely not Jaimieshow 🙅‍♀️. But anyway no point getting into all that. 

A good haul last month! I probably won’t spend as much the next few months, I need to think about moving when my lease is up so I can have an actual doll/sewing room. 

Oh! I forgot to take a photo but I did buy one pattern at about $13? It’s a Gone with the Wind recreation. I’m not really a GWTW kind of person, but again it was a small business I wanted to support and that’s what Gene sized patterns she had. It’s for a green velvet robe from the movie, but I’m thinking I’ll style it differently in white or ivory for a honeymoon peignoir when I get around to working on some wedding themed outfits.

Im having issue with uploading images, not sure if it’s the app or my wifi, and I only worked on two projects last month. But when I can get them up I’ll share that too.

We need to brainstorm a few things and I really need your input there, because this is supposed to be fun for all of us (and not just for me lol).

Are we all happy with a minumum wordcount of 500? Trick or Treat's minumum wordcount is 300, would anyone prefer that? It's supposed to be low threshold, like Halloween candy or like throwing an egg at your stupid neighbours' house.

Since it's a prompt fest and not an exchange (you won't be assigned a prompt, but pick your own), two requests per participant, ideally one "trick" and one "treat" request, to make sure everyone has a chance of having their request fulfilled?

To quote Trick or Treat Exchange: "A trick should be more horror, occult, supernatural, or scary. A treat should be more sweet, sexy, or fluffy."

You'll be able to see who requested what and which prompts aren't claimed, so try to pick a prompt from someone who has no claimed prompts so far, if you're only planning to fulfil one prompt. Multifills are welcome!

I don't want to set an age limit (because your age is none of my business and when I was a minor I definitely lied about being an adult on the internet anyway), so you should note in your DNW (Do Not Want) when you don't want to receive NSFW content (this includes graphic violence). Is everyone cool with this?

I'd want to try a short anonymous period this time, to make things more interesting, but probably not a full week... If we reveal the works on the 31st (that's a Monday) and reveal authors on the 6th (that's a Sunday), would that be cool? This way people who don't have time to read during the week can still enjoy the mystery of anonymous works on Saturday, and on Sunday we all know who wrote what? I'll make a poll about the exact reveal time this weekend, to find something that's multiple-timezones-friendly.

Can I just say I’m already so much happier with my tumblr and game? I’ve missed the Harvey’s so much & I’m finally reunited with them :) It’s definitely going to be weird, I can remember exactly how gen 1, 2, 3 and 4 panned out (well, a bit of gen 4, it didn’t get too far) and this time it’s going to be totally different!

I’m going to do a little recap on what the previous generations were like;

this was hard for gen 2....... all the emotions and nostalgia omg

Gen 1;

Ivory Harvey, the founder, ran away from home and lived on a ‘wall’ for pretty much half her YA-life. Come in Calvin Rhodes, her neighbour, they become friends and hit it off right away. They end up woohoo’ing one day at a party & Ivory ends up pregnant. This leads to the wonderful birth of Athena Harvey. Before Athena was born Ivory broke up with Calvin, as she never wanted anything serious with him. One day she had a spooky party and messed around with Calvin’s feelings, she tried to go back to his a bit later to apologise and met Kaleb Mullin, Calvin’s roommate.. Ivory and him dated for a while, and eventually became official. Not long after, Ivory was pregnant again. This time with twins! Lilli and Ruben Harvey were born (aka my most favourite twins ever!). A bit after the twins were born, Kaleb confronted Ivory about her commitment issues, but little did he know Ivory was going to propose to him that day. She did it anyway, and got rejected. That was the end of KalebxIvory. Ivory remained single for a while, focusing on her work and providing an income for her three children. After Ivory’s birthday (into adulthood) she met with an old fling, Calvin, and they rejoiced in what their lives had became, and what their romance used to be like. Ivory realised life was too short, and she quickly began dating Calvin again and he moved in. They never married, but they were happy.

Gen 2;

Double heir! Athena & Lilli Harvey. Athena was the perfect teenager, focused on her grades, never missed curfew and never talked back. She had two best friends, Nathaniel Buzolic (I was obsessed with him at this time, shhh) and Adrianna Williams. Nathaniel had always had a crush on Athena ever since they shared a drunken kiss at a party - but Athena never took it serious due to them being totally wasted. Adrianna wanted Athena to date the most popular guy at their school, Rodney Vance. Rodney was rich, and was definitely going to be a famous athlete one day. Due to this, he had a cocky attitude. And a shitty personality (THIS IS NOT ME SAYING THAT ALL ATHLETES HAVE SHITTY PERSONALITIES THIS IS ME SAYING THE FAME GOT TO HIS HEAD). Athena and Rodney went on a few dates and soon became official, but once they were actually together Rodney completely changed. Rodney only wanted Athena for woohoo, and was willing to blackmail and twist the truth completely to get what he wanted. One night, at a halloween party, Rodney intoxicated Athena so much she wasn’t fully aware of her surroundings or her actions. They woohoo’ed that night. Weeks later, Athena found out she was pregnant. A teen pregnancy. This led to the birth of Freya Harvey. Soon after Freya was born, Athena realised it was Nathaniel she wanted all along, and the long awaited ship finally happened (no, new followers, y’all don’t realise how frustrating this actually was lmao!) Eventually, Athena, Freya, Nathaniel and Lilli (after a lot of begging) moved out to a city to an apartment Nathaniel inherited the money for. In the city, Lilli met the ‘love of her life’ - Killian Jones (I WAS OBSESSED WITH OUAT OKAY) and they connected very quickly. It wasn’t long until Nathaniel and Athena married, and not long after that came along another set of twins (the Harvey’s were insanely fertile, y’all) - Jake and Charlotte Harvey. Long after, once Lilli aged up and was engaged to Killian (they never got married.... I forgot lol) they had a son called Samuel and eventually another set of Harvey twins - Lana and Eleanor! Ruben, the spare of gen 2, ended up marrying to Elizabeth Homily as he won the BC @simaroosimblr.

Gen 3;

Heir: Jake Harvey. Jake fell in love at a young age, to Cheyenne Waters. They were ‘teenage sweethearts’, but not for long. On the night of prom, they woohoo’ed with eachother, and Cheyenne drove home. Intoxicated. The next day, Jake was watching the news and found out that she was missing - and he assumed the worst. That she was dead. This drove Jake into a deep hole of depression, the love of his life was now gone. Eventually, after going through the multiple phases of grief, Jake accepted she was gone. But he would always remember. He ended up dating a new girl - whom I can’t remember the name too. They moved in an apartment together and all seemed well. Until Cheyenne turned up, but with another guest. Breanna Harvey - the daughter Jake didn’t know he had. Cheyenne dropped off Breanna and soon left, without any answers to her disappearance and they were never solved. Ever. Muahahahaha. A little after that, Jake found out he was expecting another child, with the girl who I can’t remember. This led to a boy - Kol Harvey. AND HE WAS SUPER UGLY (so ugly I didn’t even let him be counted in the heir poll..... ooops lol). Eventually, the girl who I can’t remember, also left. Mainly because vampires came out and Kol was the very existence her genetics were not good. At all. Jake needed a babysitter, as he was working a full time job and he had two children to look after. Enter: Katherine Chaput (her surname was something like that...) whom was a vampire from the 1300s. They fell in love, and had four children. April Harvey and the dreaded triplets: Octavia, Lexie and the forgotten one whom I also can’t remember. HE HAD SIX KIDS, LEAVE ME ALONE.

I’m not going to go into Gen 4, it was a mess and had a massive timeskip which was the main reason why I ended up not playing them anymore. But basically, Octavia was super career-motivated which would’ve eventually lead to her neglecting her boyfriend and her cheating on him and him becoming an alcoholic. I never got that much into the story, but I feel like my old followers deserved to know what I planned for Octavia! I also planned to kill off Jake, which was another reason to why Octavia began neglecting her boyfriend and cheating on him... It was going to be very dramatic, but unfortunately the timeskip ruined it for me :(

As the video opened into Cassie’s intro that was a little cartoon of her with her username in sparkles across before it went into her sitting down in her normal setting, a light baby pink wall behind her with a muted teal accents around. Cassie waved to the camera as she started to speak “Hey whats up guys, Cassie here. Welcome to my channel or welcome back! Last week i left a poll in the i card, just telling you guys to vote between four different stores not telling you what it was about, other than it had to do with this video.” She pushed her hair back over her shoulder. “So today we have a hundred dollar fashion challenge. I went to Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister, having to make an outfit in each store both having to be a hundred dollars or less. And let me just tell you, thats hard at both of these stores.” She let out a soft laugh “But lets get into the vlog clips of me shopping up in Columbus this past Tuesday.” She pointed to the side as the frame swiped across the screen and the vlog clip started to play.

Cassie was sitting in the car by herself in the parking lot. “Sup guys are we ready to brave the mall today? And hope to actually stay under a hundred dollars in both stores? Cause i have not shopped in either store since like middle school, and i forgot how pricey these are.” She grabbed her camera as she got out  holding it out in front of her. Columbus was much bigger, and it was less likely for her to get weird looks as she vlogged in public. “So i think our first stop is actually to get food and by food i mean Starbucks so lets get inside.”

the clip faded into her standing in line at starbucks, the camera pointing up at her from the camera, not wanting to get the barista on camera. “Hi can i get a  cold brew with salted cream cold foam with light ice and a ham & cheese croissant, please.” Cassie smiled, and paid before moving to the side, and getting her drink and food. “I will talk to yall when we get to Hollister cause i cannot eat walk and vlog at the same time.” She giggled before the clip cut off.

The next clip faded into the outside of the hollister store. “Okay lets see what kinda damage I can do in here.” She said walking inside. The clips was mostly of her picking up random things, finally picking up a black skirt “Well this is a good start, even if it’s eating up half my budget, but if this actually ends up being amazing, i cannot wait to wear this all the time.” She held it as she kept looking for a top. She finally picked up a mockneck long sleeved shirt “Not something i’d normal wear, but solid staple kinda item. Plus black on black. Lets see what we can find for shoes, and maybe accessories now.” She continued around the store, picking up a pair of slides, A scrunchie and went up to the register. As the total rang up, she was just a few dollars, tossing in an air freshener to put her just under 100 dollars by twenty cents. She paid and headed out of there “So i got a car air freshener just cause i couldn’t find anything else to throw into this outfit. Totally don’t don’t think we’ll be able to do that in Abercrombie & Fitch but I could be saying im shocked too early. We’ll find out though.”

The clip swiped over to her panning the sign of the store before walking in, talking to the camera. “So I’m gonna attempt to get a similar outfit here that i got at holster, but that could just be getting a skirt and then thats it. Cause i don’t think i can do another mockneck even though that one i got was  super cute.” She walked around the store, finding the skirts first, picking up a white denim mini skirt “Well this is a good start, Watch me get all white for this outfit now.” She said with a bit of a laugh. As she looked through the shirts, she knew that she wouldn’t be able to even think of getting shoes if she kept looking at full priced things. She worked her way to the clearance finding a cute lace cami “Okay well this was  not what i was hoping for, but i think im okay with it. Mostly cause i have about the same amount left that i did before i added shoes and accessories, so I’m feeling good.”  Cassie walked around trying to find shoes, landing on a pair of faux leather flip flops. She got up to the check out, hoping she would be able to add something else, but when her total came up 98 dollar exactly, she just rolled with it and paid and got out of there.

Cut to her walking back outside, “So now that done, and that means its time to go home and tell you my  opinions on this stuff when i try it on back at the house. So I will see yall in a little bit” She put her hand over her lens and when it was taken back off she was back in her filming room, standing in the Hollister outfit. The top tucked into the skirt, and the scrunchie on her wrist. “So what we have here is if heather chandler went from red to black honestly, and im here for it.” She turned to the side. “The skirt is honestly perfect? And i don’t remember the last time i had any denim skirts, probably years if i’m being honestly” Cassie smiled tossing her hair over her back. “And then i picked a pretty basic top that honestly i think i might return, I don’t wear long sleeves unless they’re hoodies, but it is growing on me, so i don’t know I’ll  give it a week. And as for the shoes. I got nothing bad to say about them? They’re slides and thats about it.” She giggled “oh and the scrunchie is nice. Not worth almost four dollars for one, but it’s gonna hold my hair back just the same. Now time for scoring, Top i’m gonna give a six and half out of ten. skirt like a eight out of ten, and the slides seven out of ten.” She started. “I’m not gonna add the scrunchie or the air fresherner seeing as i didn’t have money to get accessories at Abercrombie & Fitch, so thats an average of whatever it says right here” she pointed to where the list of out of 10s where, giving the average of a 7.16 out of 10. “Now lets switch it up.”

The transition was like a tiktok when she jumped up switching into the other one by the time  she was back on the ground. It was clearly that the Abercrombie & Fitch outfit was more her style with the white skirt and cleavage exposed camisole. “Now we can call this look a Regenia George ever day kinda look, Or well every day but Wednesday” She pushed her hair over her shoulder. “I am already loving whole outfit, though I probably should have sized up in the top just because of all off..” She moved her hands around over her chest “this. but I’m also not mad at this look.” She turned around to show off the skirt a little bit more. “ I totally like this one more than the one i got at hollister, So it’s totally a keep” She reached for her flip flop that was barely on her foot. “I always have problems if i get shoes here. or well at least this style i don’t know why. My foot isn’t that big but it just doesn’t like these kinda shoes, and i knew i should have sized up.” She tossed them back onto the floor “So those are getting returned or possibly gone on my posh-mark, Keep an eye out for that.” She scrunched her nose “Time  for the rating, top is gonna get an eight out of ten, skirt i’m gonna give it a nine out of ten, and unfortunately, i don’t wanna give the shoes a bad score for my mistake of getting the wrong size, so i’m gonna be nice and give it a six out of ten” She looked over to where the scoreboard was “giving it the average of what ever pops up now” at the bottom it said 7.33 out of 10. “Pretty sure that is higher than hollister, but not by much. Lets go sit back down now.”

It cut to her sitting down in front of her baby pink wall, still in her Abercrombie & Fitch outfit. “So what I have learned from this is, honestly hollister is cheeper, and you can end up getting a bit more bang for your buck, i totally still find the win for the Abercrombie & Fitch. That store is just more my style, but i think i am gonna start shopping at both again? and stop going to forever twenty one as much.” She said with a little bit of a laugh “Down below lemme know what outfit you liked better, and the question of the week  is if you had 100 dollars to spend at any store what one would you pick, Maybe i’ll try shopping there, who knows. But that’s all for today’s video! The Wayhaven Chronicles—Update 12/July/2024

Was a mixture of tasks this week!

First up was finishing up social media days, and what a difference having stable internet makes to that, lol! :D

Managed to get all the asks answered and scheduled for the month ahead—first month that’s happened in a while! There were some really juicy ones this time around too, so hope you enjoy those, hehe! ;D

Then it was onto the fun of doing the Patreon content! And I’m already excited to see what gets chosen for next month’s Summer Scenario Specials! The second poll for that (looking like vacation-themed…) will be up later too.

After that, I moved onto the edits, which I thought would take me the rest of the week. Instead, I managed to get them all done mid-week and get in another round of checks before sending it off to the final set of readers!

And with that done, I got stuck right back into Chapter Three! I ended up adding in an extra little section, which I was really glad I did because it gave me the perfect chance to give some real foreshadowing of something major coming up later, which I didn’t know how I was going to do!

I’m continuing on with Chapter Three now and will be pushing on through that next week, adding in edits and adjustments to Chapter Two as the readers get back to me over the next while, prepping it ready to add into the demo! Also a couple of things I need to edit for the Steam wishlist for Hosted Games before it can go up, but hopefully will be able to get that done super quick.

Chapter Two had SO much going on, I forgot how much was coming up in Chapter Three as well! There’s a major moment of the MC actually experiencing the training of becoming an Agent rather than just the game telling you it’s been happening off-screen, lol! But I don’t want it to just feel too much of a slog, so want lots of character interactions in there to help break it up all tailored to which Unit you end up doing that training with!

“Ooooh, I wanna go camping for my birthday!” “I’d like to go hiking!” My daughter and husband have birthdays a week apart and their requests sounded like one fantastic weekend! The Texas State Park campgrounds fill up pretty fast, so I polled my Facebook buddies right away to get a potential list of parks with the best trees. Got the site!

We’re all foodies. Adding birthdays on top of that, I really wanted to make lovely campfire fare, so I ordered a copy of The New Camp Cookbook. I gave it a flip through and flagged a lot of potential weekend deliciousness, and then I saw it, Dutch Oven Old-School Lasagna. Haha! Lasagna and Potstickers are her two favorite food groups. Perfect! (We already did his birthday dinner and cake at home!)

It’s very cool. You will not be bored with the same old campsite (or backyard!) meals. The author’s intent is that you do all the prep right at the campsite. Measuring and dicing out in the woods, where I have no desire to have a full pantry or fridge to work out of, sounded pretty bad. I prefer to keep things as simple as possible out in the woods, so that we can concentrate on hiking, canoeing, and chillaxing, so I did all the prep work at home, and even froze what parts would freeze well to double as ice packs in our cooler <I spell out those details below>. It worked out so well, and I couldn’t be happier with the book. <If you normally read my stuff, you’ll laugh at the pictures. When we got to the site, our lantern wasn’t working, so I had to shine a pocket flashlight on the salmon to get a shot. The pics look like something out of Blair Witch Project. LOL!>

Since you’re reading about campfire food, I’m going to guess that there’s a good chance that you like to see potential outdoor playgrounds. Caddo Lake is the only natural lake in Texas. Half the lake is in Texas and half is in Louisiana. It has a few miles of pretty hiking trails through the woods. But what they’re known for is a paddling trail. You can rent canoes there. On the state park website I found alligator warnings. What?! We got there and saw tons of canoes in the water. We went to the ranger station and asked. She said the alligators aren’t really a problem and they don’t usually come that far up the bayou. I generally think Bill Bryson nailed it in A Walk in the Woods when he said, “Bears don’t sign treaties.” Hmmmm. But I trust park rangers. They’re in the business of keeping humans and wildlife happy and safe. So we went. And oh my gosh, am I ever glad that we did! The campground was out of canoes, so the ranger sent us over to Johnson’s Ranch Marina.

The bald cypress trees look mystical when the paddling trail gets narrow and they form a canopy, and the mounds of Spanish moss hanging off of them have a softening effect like draperies. It’s straight out of Tiana’s playground in Princess and the Frog. Water lilies are everywhere, and Alex (my birthday kiddo) was delighted by holding her paddle over them and watching the water droplets disperse in a frenzied dance over the surface. And there are lightning bugs everywhere lighting up the woods. We hadn’t seen them since selling our property in New York. We’d missed them so much. It was an amazing adventure. You should go!

We came home, built a fire, and got the Dutch Oven Old-School Lasagna going while the kids went off to find the shower house. The lasagna was the perfect birthday dinner out in the woods! I’ll show you the other dishes I made in the book afterwards, but first let me get you the recipe for that lasagna! Thanks to Quarto for letting me share it with you!

Dutch Oven Old-School Lasagna

Makes 6 servings

Ooey gooey goodness was once only possible at home, in an oven, where layer upon layer of pasta, cheese, and sauce bubbled together in a tidy rectangular baking dish. But classic lasagna can now be had in camp! It might be round, but it’s got all the flavors and layers you know and love. I use oven-ready noodles in this recipe to save the extra step of boiling them (and dirtying another pot… because who wants to do more dishes?).

FOR THE MEAT SAUCE (Prepare, bag, and freeze ahead of time! Thaw when ready. ~Jen) ½ pound (226 g) lean ground beef ½ pound (226 g) Italian sausage, casing removed 1 medium yellow onion, chopped 4 cloves garlic, minced 1 (28-ounce/800 g) can crushed tomatoes 1 (8-ounce/226 g) can tomato sauce ¼ cup (60 ml) dry red wine 1 Tablespoon tomato paste 1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes 1 teaspoon kosher salt ½ teaspoon fennel seeds ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper To make the meat sauce, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef and sausage. Flatten the meat, spread it across the skillet, and cook until browned on the bottom, about 5 minutes. Stir to break up the meat and continue cooking until browned all over, 3 to 5 minutes more. Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion starts to turn translucent, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the tomatoes, tomato sauce, wine, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, fennel seeds, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the sauce is thickened, about 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, prepare a mound of wood coals, hardwood lump charcoal, or charcoal briquettes.

FOR THE CHEESE MIXTURE (Prepare, bag, & freeze ahead of time! Thaw when ready. ~Jen) 2 large eggs 4 ½ cups (500 g) shredded mozzarella cheese, divided 2 cups (450 g) ricotta cheese ½ cup (50 g) grated Parmesan cheese, divided ½ cup (25 g) chopped fresh parsley leaves, plus more for garnishing To make the cheese mixture, in a medium bowl, beat together the eggs, 4 cups (450 g) of mozzarella, the ricotta, ¼ cup (25 g) of the Parmesan, and the parsley. Stir until well combined.

FOR THE LASAGNA Olive oil spray 9 uncooked oven-ready lasagna noodles (I used more. I think my Dutch oven’s bigger. ~Jen) 3 cups packed baby spinach To assemble the lasagna, lightly spray a dutch oven with oil. Spoon 1/3 of the meat sauce into the oven, followed by 1/3 of the noodles, ½ of the cheese mixture, and ½ of the spinach. (Break the noodles into pieces to fit the oven.) Repeat with the remaining ingredients, finishing with a layer of meat sauce. Top with the remaining ½ cup (56 g) mozzarella and remaining ¼ cup (25 g) Parmesan. Move about a quart’s worth of coals to the cooking pit and arrange them in a ring. Cover the oven, set it on the ring of coals, and place 1 ½ rings of coals on the lid.

Bake over medium heat for about 30 minutes, until all the cheeses are melted and the noodles are tender. Replenish the coals as needed to maintain medium heat and rotate the oven and lid halfway through for even cooking. Let stand, uncovered, for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley.

My thoughts and pics on the dishes we tried: 1) Blueberry Skillet Scones with Lemon Glaze – p 42. These were divine. They are rich, fragrant, and not overly sweet. I prepped the dough and icing in advance and put them in separate sealed bags. 2-5) Savory Oatmeal with Bacon, Cheddar, and Fried Egg – p 49. Delicious. This was everyone’s favorite breakfast. I cooked and crumbled the bacon and toasted the oatmeal in advance. Then I measured and separately bagged the bacon, oatmeal, cheese, and chopped onion. I measured ice water into a mason jar (they have measurement lines on the side), so that it would double as an icepack and a drinking jar, too.

6) Foil Pack Salmon with Pineapple Salsa – p 101. Fabulous dinner. The sweet, savory, and spicy salsa complements the rich fish perfectly. I washed the fish, seasoned it, and topped it with lime slices and bagged that in advance. And I made another sealed bag of the salsa in advance. This was supposed to be done in foil, which I forgot at home, so I just used my Dutch oven with a lid, and it worked perfectly. Our lantern was dead, so this photo taken with a pocket flashlight will have to do. 7-11) Dutch Oven Old-School Lasagna – p 179. All the yes! Lasagna and potstickers are my kiddos favorite foods, so I was thrilled to see one of them in the book for her birthday dinner. This works perfectly in the Dutch oven with coals. Everyone loved it. I made the meat sauce and combined the cheese mixture ahead of time, and separately bagged and froze those. Then I made a little bag of the topping cheese. There was supposed to be spinach in this, but I forgot it at home.

12) Mimosa Sangria – p 190. This was a lovely fireside sipper. I put the measured fruit, orange liqueur, and fruit juice in one mason jar ahead of time. When we were ready to drink it, I divided it between this and the other mason jar that the measured water had been in for the oatmeal that was now empty, and my hubby topped them both up with champagne. How’s that for glamping?! 13-15) Camp Chai – p 202. I made the chai concentrate ahead of time. Next time, I’ll make two batches because the kids loved this in the morning while they sat around the fire waiting for their breakfasts. It’s a total mug of coziness.

16-17) Campfire S’Mores, 6 Ways – p 209. My daughter chose a mash-up of two as her birthday cake. Chocolate graham crackers, Nutella, salted caramel, and toasted marshmallows. They thought they were way better than the standard deal. Next time, I’ll chill the Nutella and caramel so that it’ll stand up better to the molten marshmallow. One of my kids is a marshmallow igniter.

Food Saver

I bought my Food Saver for my sous vide. It’s nice to have, but completely unnecessary for that. Where it really shines in on road trips. We can play in the middle of nowhere and eat like kings. When I was in the market, the mamma jamma of Food Savers was on sale, so why not?! But there are much cheaper models in the Food Saver line.

My little grill. My kiddo won this at Home Depot one day. Not even kidding. My husband is a garden enthusiast, and she tagged along with him to buy all the flowers. She saw a ballot box by the customer service desk and entered her name, and we got a call. It’s fun to drag along to the lake for a lazy dinner after a day of kayaking. There was a burn ban at the campground (we didn’t know that they still allowed fire to cook), so we brought this little guy along. He uses a standard propane tank just like a full-size backyard deal, folds up, and works well. Niiiice.

Last Tuesday, I was invited by New Summit Colors Distribution for a hair makeover. Their office is located near the International Airport which is a bit too far from where I live quite honestly. To those who do not know yet, I live in Cubao and going to Paranaque on a weekday morning can be pain in the rear.

Fortunately, I had a meeting in Sucat, Paranaque that morning. I was also allowed by New Summit to arrive later than the 10 AM call time. I was done with my meeting by 11:30 AM. It was raining that day so traffic was worse than usual. After being stuck in traffic for almost an hour, I finally got to the New Summit Office by 12:45 PM.

This was not my first time to get a hair makeover. I have done gigs before for Frank Provost and Jesi Mendez to name a few. That is why I was a bit excited on how my new do would turn out.

I was pleased to see this photo neatly placed in the area designated for me. It made me wonder how and where they got my photo. Lol.

I arrived lunch time. Talk about perfect timing. While waiting for my hair technician to start his wonders on me, Mean Clemente of www.yogoandcream.com and I had lunch. Mean arrived fifteen minutes earlier. The rest was done with lunch. As they say, ‘Tummy First’. Priorities… Priorities… Priorities… LOL.

Ever since I started travel blogging, my trips to the hair salon have become less and less. It has been two years since I left the corporate setting and two years of not being bound by any dress code. Did you know that the last time I had a hair cut was more than a year ago? Lol.

One week prior to this hair makeover session, I was asked by New Summit about my hair’s history and if I had any pegs in mind. I searched far and wide for that perfect ‘Travel Blogger Look’ (if there is such a thing). Below were my three choices. Yes, I even considered donning a Targaryen look.

I also did a poll on Facebook if I should get a haircut already or not. The response was not a resounding and overwhelming ‘Yes, get a haircut already’. Hence, given the nature of what I do now, I believe it is best to keep it long and neat. I can always cut my hair anytime anyway.

My hair makeover session started at about 3 PM and ended at a little past 7 PM. I think Jhapz forgot to give me some hair care tips. I would have wanted though to have a proper hair treatment after the coloring session but I guess there was not enough time to do the procedure.

I got home late, close to 10 in the evening I think. Thanks to the horrendous traffic along mighty EDSA. I did not wash my hair in the shower that night.

The next day, lo and behold, the hair color (I think) became even more vibrant.

Honestly, I was a bit worried that I did not get a proper hair treatment after the hair makeover session. As I said, this was not my first time to get a hair makeover. I have done modeling gigs in the past and it was either I got a proper hair treatment after the hair makeover session (same day or was asked to return days after) or was given hair treatment products to use at home.

In fairness to Revlon, I feel that my hair was not subjected to the usual stress of hair coloring. Thanks to the hyaluronic acid content of Revlonissimo Colorsmetique Creme Gel Colour. As a skin care addict myself, I am quite familiar with the moisturizing properties of this ingredient.

Just the same, I visited the hair salon I used to frequent that afternoon and spent some bucks to get a Keratin Treatment.

I might also try some DIY hair treatments such as mayonnaise as suggested by fellow Travel Blogger Lee Rosales of www.Ilovepaars.com soon. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.
