Can you read my new story All Alone please. I would love some feedback. Love your stories.

@jolexnewff just read it! here are some tips i have for you:

1.) try to refrain from using all bold. not only as a fellow writer, but as a reader it tends to be very distracting. in my personal opinion, bold should only be used on words that you want emphasized, that are already italics, example: a word in a flashback. but if you want just one word to stand out, use italics. 

flashback version: “Your family doesn’t even know that you’re dating me!”

normal, present tense version: “Your family doesn’t even know that you’re dating me!”

2.) separate your paragraphs! if you don’t know where to do that, try to do it after two different people speak. 

example: 

Character A looked around the room, taking in the sight of the paintings on the walls, marveling in the way all the colors seemed to come together to create a beautiful masterpiece. “I wish we could stay here forever.”

Character B grinned, pulling A closer to them, “Me too.”

this way, it’s a lot easier to let us know who’s talking, and it’s just creates a better structure. 

3.) This is more of a personal thing, but i see that you use ____ said, “xyz” or, ____ then said “abc”. as a reader and writer, i think things tend to flow more easily when its the dialogue then the ___ said. 

example: 

She gave the man next to her a playful grin, “I love that you think you’re the smartest person here.” she said, her voice full of playful banter. 

4.) ADD TITLES. i cannot even begin to explain how important this is. i’m not sure if you use mobile or a laptop (i suggest laptop. it’s a lot easier to label things the way you want) but titling your work is super important. people can easily scroll past your post thinking that its not a fanfic post. there is a header kind of section, so use that to add your title. if you don’t know what i’m talking about, another, smaller scale way of titling is by highlighting, then hitting the H that’s on the screen. (if you don’t know what i mean, feel free to PM and ask me, i will happily screen record to show you!) All Alone is the name, right? so make sure you add that, and the chapter number too. 

5.) you have four chapters of your book right? make a master post! this way, your followers can find a way around your blog and have access to your fics. i’m assuming you know how to link things, but if you don’t, again, PM me and i will gladly teach you!

6.) detail is everything. i can’t go into too much about this, because i know it’s something i need to work on as well, but just try to add as much detail as you can. it pulls the reader in. 

7.) use punctuation! a lil’ comma here, a dash there. they spice it up and make it look cool! 

8.) try to avoid run-ons. if words seem to go on for just a little bit too long, chop it.

Why tho???

I mean don’t get me wrong I’m hella grateful and so happy that you all like my writing enough to want to stick around (despite my shitty updating habits), but- Well I guess there really isn’t any ‘but’, so I’ll just say thanks and welcome to the party and leave it at that.

In a similar vein I’d like to give a special shoutout to all the peeps that are reblogging my stuff! I’ve no doubt that a lot of my traffic comes from your efforts, and idk man, I guess I just want to say thanks, so thank you very much!!

Secondly I’m doing a little sumthin-sumthin for V-Day. Should I be starting another project when it’s already taking me forever to finish the other two? Probably not, but that has never stopped me before lol. I wanted to get the first installment up yesterday, but I had a p. bad headache. Today, however, I am full of pancakes and bacon and an actual 9 hours of sleep so I’m hyped as hell lmao. As a result you’ll be getting four entries today, and 2 more everyday all the way up until the 14th. Naturally most of these will be RDR related as there’s just more characters there that I write for. The Batboys will ofc be making an appearance, as well as a few new faces for a whole new fandom so that’s something. I just gotta get the masterlists together and give everything a final read over (and somehow still miss an assload of errors in spite of my efforts) and then they’ll be going live.

Thirdly I am still working on my 12 Days stuff as well as the relationship ABCs. Just a little burnt out on both atm, so I figured this VDE would be a good way to cleanse my palate before getting back into things.

And finally requests aren’t really a thing here. Only mentioning this because I got one sometime last week I’m guessing (again, I was on a tumblr cleanse lol). Now this isn’t any shade to the person that sent it as nowhere in my bio does it state that I don’t do requests. The info is in my pinned post, but that thing’s kinda long so most are probably looking at it and going ‘nah I’m good’ lol. As a result I’ll be adding this info to my header/sidebar just to make things easier for all parties involved.

I've tried to collect some of the most used topics in Node, and looked for their alternative with Deno. First of all, I would like to make it clear that we can use many of the current Node.js modules. There is no need to look for an alternative for everything, as many modules are reusable. You can visit pika.dev to look for modules to use in Deno. That said, let's start with the list: Electron With Node.js we can create desktop applications using Electron. Electron uses Chromium as interface to run a web environment. But, can we use Electron with Deno? Are there alternatives?

Well, right now Electron is far from being able to be executed under Deno. We must look for alternatives. Since Deno is made with Rust, we can use web-view rust bindings to run Destkop application in Deno. This way, we can use the native OS webview to run as many webviews as we want. Forever / PM2

Forever and PM2 are CLI tools for ensuring that a given script runs continuously as a daemon. Unlike Forever, PM2 is more complete and also serves as load balancer. Both are very useful in Node, but can we use them in Deno? Forever is intended for Node only, so using it is not feasible. On the other hand, with PM2 we can run non-node scripts, so we could still use it for Deno.

Creating an app.sh file

Express / Koa

Express and Koa are the best known Node frameworks. They're known for their robust routing system and their HTTP helpers (redirection, caching, etc). Can we use them in Deno? The answer is not... But there are some alternatives.

Http (std lib)

Deno's own STD library already covers many of the needs provided by Express or Koa. https://deno.land/std/http/.

MongoDB is a document database with a huge scability and flexibility. In the JavaScript ecosystem has been widely used, with many stacks like MEAN or MERN that use it. It's very popular.

Nodemon

Nodemon is used in development environment to monitor any changes in your files, automatically restarting the server. This makes node development much more enjoyable, without having to manually stop and restart the server to see the applied changes. Can it be used in Deno? Sorry, but you can't... but still, there is an alternative: Denon.

Jest, Jasmine, Ava...

In the Node.js ecosystem there are a lot of alternatives for test runners. However, there isn't one official way to test the Node.js code. In Deno, there is an official way, you can use the testing std library.

Webpack, Parcel, Rollup...

One of the strengths of Deno is that we can use ESmodules with TypeScript without the need for a bundler such as Webpack, Parcel or Rollup. However, probably you wonder if given a tree of files, we can make a bundle to put everything in one file to run it on the web. Well, it's possible, yes. We can do it with Deno's CLI. Thus, there's no need for a third-party bundler.

Now it's ready to be loaded in the browser:

Prettier

In the last few years Prettier has become quite well known within the JavaScript ecosystem because with it you don't have to worry about formatting the files. And the truth is, it can still be used on Deno but it loses its meaning, because Deno has its own formatter. You can format your files using this command:

NPM Scripts

With Deno, the package.json no longer exists. One of the things I really miss are the scripts that were declared in the package.json. A simple solution would be to use a makefile and execute it with make. However, if you miss the npm syntax, there is an npm-style script runner for Deno:

Npx

Npx in recent years has become very popular to execute npm packages without having to install them. Now many projects won't exist within npm because Deno is a separate ecosystem. So, how can we execute Deno modules without having to install them with deno install https://url-of-module.ts? In the same way that we run our project, instead of a file we put the URL of the module:

As you can see, not only we have to remember the name of the module, but the whole URL, which makes it a little more difficult to use. On the other hand it gives a lot more flexibility as we can run any file, not just what's specified as a binary in the package.json like npx.

Run on a Docker

To run Deno inside a Docker, we can create this Dockerfile:

Much Ado About SPN

Friends, writers, tumblr people, lend me your ears...

For those of you who do not know, I (Angel, @whispersandwhiskerburn) am a teacher. I love to teach writing and reading to students—and I love reading and writing fanfiction. So, when I reached the AMAZING milestone of 1.5K FOLLOWERS, I decided to celebrate with my fellow writers with a challenge that marries the two—my love of teaching literature and writing and my love of spn fanfiction.

Every writer goes on a journey. They start with the ABCs and it's amazing how many wonders just 26 letters can create—it's all about how you use them. Of course, reading helps; good readers become good writers, and good writers are always looking for a way to challenge themselves, in reading and writing. One of the most challenging, most famous, and best writers that ever lived made wonderful stories that are read and taught to this day—all with the same 26 letters that we use.

So, that's the inspiration for this challenge. The letters of the alphabet—and one of the greatest writers of all time: William Shakespeare.

The idea is to use at least two (all three if you can) of the alphabet prompts AND the Shakespeare line—you do NOT have to use Shakespeare's wording, just be inspired by the theme of the quote.

Rules and Accepting the Challenge:

I can't sign you up if I don't know who you are?

3. Any character from the show is welcome, but not cast members for this challenge (Dean/Sam/Castiel etc., not Jensen/Jared/Misha). Ships are fine, (exceptions: no non-con and no Samifer, since Lucifer totally raped him) but reader-inserts are preferred.

4. Any genre: SFW, NSFW, AU, angst, fluff, smut, or any combination thereof, just please tag appropriately.

5. No maximum length limit, but if it is more than 800 words, include a read-more link, or I won't reblog it. Should be at least 500 words. One shots, drabbles, series pieces, combinations with other challenges/requests—all are totally cool.

6. Tag me (@whispersandwhiskerburn) in the header somewhere. I will reblog these with feedback and add them all to a masterlist. I want to post the masterlist on Shakespeare's birthday which is celebrated on April 23rd, so the deadline for fics is April 20th.
