“You are just like Fengshe,” he mutters under his breath. “Nonetheless, it… was something made in haste. One that—admittedly—I do not look back on fondly…” Unsure of how else to end the conversation, he gestures for you to follow.

Fengshe?

“Who’s that?” You ask, following him through what looks like a more residential area, with fewer shops and more houses.

“Mm?” He takes you to a large stone wall that has certainly seen better days.

“Fengshe. You said I’m just like him.”

“In certain ways, yes,” he grumbles. “Fengshe is Mother Lihua’s son. Through technicality, because of his relation to Monkey King—he’s my uncle, despite him being close to my age, give or take a century or two.” He rolls his eyes in annoyance. “Likes to call me little brother to confuse everyone we meet… annoying.”

How deep does this shit go? Now you’re curious how this Fengshe character acts, and if Wukong knows anything about him—or Six-Eared Macaque.

so the line “Will you live to see tomorrow or die another day” always puzzled me a bit, because the implication is that both live through the day. I chalked it up to just. Convenience on the part of the writers, until I realized that this line actually refers to Owen and Curt. They live through the event, but in markedly different ways. Contrary to what he says in One Step Ahead, Owen really didn’t “move on” from that day, or from Curt. From the time of his “death” he has just been going after curt, his only mission to destroy his life and get revenge. He has nothing to live for after the mission where his lover betrays him, so he really is just waiting to “die another day” as the line says, however, Curt’s arc throughout the show is really learning how to move forward and live in order to see tomorrow, because now he has something to look forward to in the future.

arguably both of them went through a metaphorical “death” at that point and the line is a really interesting mirror to the narrative.

Rewatching the end of the Black Rose Arc always makes me go insane. What do you mean after we see the flashback of Mamiya burning down the building and Tokiko asking him if it's his doing he answers "Yes" without emotion, and then right after this we see Mamiya talking to Mikage who replies "Yes" in the exact same way over and over again. What do you mean we hear the 100 duelists talking about how Mikage's job will soon be over and they'll "carry on without him". What do you mean after Mikage loses to Utena Akio asks Anthy "Do you feel sympathy for him?" ("Are you having regrets?") THIS SHOW MAN. THIS SHOW.

Okay but listen. The foreshadowing in Across the Spider Verse. They kept bringing up that the spider was from an alternate dimension. They mentioned which number. They SHOWED the number on screen when Miles was trying to return to his own universe.

And you, the watcher, realizes just a second before the reveal, making you feel smart AF for putting all the little pieces together.

interesting question: So Cloud Haetae Cookie… lets’s just say are they the ‘Dark Choco’ to Mystic’s ‘Dark Cacao’ in this Universe?

Haetae is Haetae :3 but they are loyal to Cacao.

Cacao has never been very fond of them. They just accepted it but they couldn't help but wonder why.

...not enough that when this cookie (who is oddly familiar to them but they just don't know why) shows up, isn't selfish and is kind (gives them the best head scratches they've ever had in this life dndnndndnd), they... find themselves wanting to steer that cookie away from the path. Y'know maybe she doesn't need to confront their master maybe she can just Go home...

😭 thank you so much! Since I write exclusively canon/canon adjacent stuff, I really do try to keep the character arcs in mind, and play with where their stories will go. And foreshadowing is such a fun way to engage in the fandom and with other fans, I can sneak it into my fics and my readers can go “ooooooo I see what you did there!”

It’s especially fun with Viktor in particular, considering how drastically he is going to change; I try to find those little moments that hint at emotion being an issue/challenge for him. Like the scene where he lets his anger get the better of him in Oasis ch8 and lashes out at Mortem mimics the scene in Arcane where he’s handling Jinx’s bomb and Jayce’s words upset him, and he lets his anger affect his caution, thereby setting off the bomb. Really, I have to hand it all to the makers of Arcane, as they did it so beautifully first, but it honestly makes me feel so good that I could come close to capturing what they created. Thank you again, you’ve made my day 🥰
