What is the Showtime SMP, anyway?

It's an ongoing (mostly) vanilla SMP with a focus on storytelling, started by Zolister on June 9th 2023. It's filled with serious (and often quite dark) plot lines, but still features a good deal of improv and goofing around. Vibes wise, it's somewhere between Kaboodle SMP, Lifesteal and DSMP.

It doesn't have a "gimmick", but over time it developed worldbuilding involving gods, multiversal travel, intertwining with the 4th wall, and "The Narrative".

It's loosely a second season of the Sussy SMP (silly name, but a good server). Although some members incorporate it into their character's backstory, you don't have to watch the previous SMP in order understand the current story.

How do I watch it?

The story is told through livestreams, there are only a couple of videos. (There are also some in-character social media accounts, those are fun.) To get into the lore, I highly recommend this spreadsheet by @/enderteegs!!!! If you’d like to start with only one pov, in my opinion the best pick is kantje, or alternatively ViolettaFire, BobaBear, or Zolister. Other resources:

BobaBear: An interstellar traveler who experienced eons during her explorations. Despite everything that happens, they remain kindhearted, and always willing to give a helping hand. (twitch, vods)

ClaryeOryx: He’s a nice, fairly normal person who stays more at the sidelines. Still sometimes gets dragged into people’s conflicts. (twitter, not a streamer)

ComplexlyRoss: A mischief maker who operates under cartoon character logic. They have a fondness for pranks, and a disdain for wearing armour. Joined August 2023. (streams on yt, video)

CrimsonBtw: Arrived to the server traumatised after having just experienced a world getting destroyed (the Lifesteal wormhole event, but don't worry if you haven't watched that). Joined August 2023. (twitch, vods, yt)

Crumpets: Cynical, deadpan bar owner. He isn’t too fond of this strange world he was sent to, but he is fond of the money that he can make here. Joined December 2023. (twitch)

Cupid Goozeless: Star has a lot of responsibility on star’s shoulders: he’s a leader, a medic and a father. He worries over others, and if he’s doing a good enough job protecting them. (twitch, yt)

Div_y: Uncovers a recipe for memory-erasing potions. He makes them for those who share his struggle with nightmares and trauma, but not everyone has as good of intentions as he does. Joined July 2023. (yt, 2nd yt, videos: 1, 2)

Effy: A magical creation of wood and wire, they’re one of the wittiest members without even needing to speak. While they may hide behind quips and confidence, they care a whole lot about their friends. (twitter, not a streamer)

EvanIsLoco: Scientist studying interdimensional travel. He develops a possesion problem after an accident in an ancient city, leading to newfound aggression. (twitch)

Geoful: Shapeshifter made out of blue goop. His silliness only makes it hit harder when he drops angst on you. (twitch)

IDKnows: Made of flowers, and would be more than happy to rip himself appart if it meant making everyone else happy. Sometimes naive, and others take advantage of that. Joined July 2023 (twitch, yt)

its_kantje: He’s god’s favourite plaything, and he will stop at nothing to get his beloved daughter back from Him. Starts out with a reputation for great business skills, and a knack for conflict resolution. (twitch, vods, yt. I especially reccomend the ‘Split Apart’ streams)

ItsLilKae: The organiser of the server’s elections. But don’t let her fool you: she isn’t a spearhead of democracy, but a conspirator plotting to achieve absolute power. (twitch, yt)

ivorycello: Ruthless murderer of murderers. With her, the road to tyranny is paved with good intentions, and with pink flowers. (streams on yt, videos 1, 2, playlist)

Merffin: Loose cannon who’ll kill at the slightest provocation. A leader of the Silencers, a group who’ll murder anyone that has the silence trim. (yt, twitch)

Mika FLapp0: After a long time of watching without being able to properly interact with the world, they gained a corporal form via a failed devil summoning. Joined December 2023. (twitter)

Mugm: Aloof and angry. The only thing that will get him to throw hands quicker than hurting his pride is hurting his family. (yt, twitch)

PheeaBea: Headstrong ex-prisoner who doesn’t like rules getting in the way of their curiosity. Has the the abilities and limitations of fae. Joined December 2023. (twitch, yt)

Porgie: Lived through an apocalyptic alternate timeline. This led to a desperation to prevent disaster, and to somehow try and deal with the pain and scars of the past. (twitch, yt)

Quakitus: Has been through horrible things, and in turn has done horrible things, notably cannibalism. Healing is a rough journey for her. (twitch, vods, yt)

Rasplin: Loves a good fight, and loves having high status items. He's quite intimidating, but even he isn't completely heartless. (streams on yt, videos: 1, 2)

rinthehecker: Despite her loyalty, trusting others is hard for her, considering all the betrayal she faced, and her mysterious sleepwalking problem. As a dragon, they sometimes find themself homesick for the End. (twitch, yt)

Rylanets: Has green hair, fairy wings, and flighting skills. Not much of a leader, but he’s always a steadfast teammate. (twitch)

Saturn_720: Still figuring out his place in this world. It’s a difficult task, but running a restaurant and caring for a niece makes it more fun. Joined December 2023. (twitch, yt)

Silvaasaur: Mugm’s brother, known as the kinder, more emotional one of the two. He’s still just as deadly with a sword. (twitch, yt)

StarbornNebula: Grief sparked a burning desire for vengeance in her. She’ll be satisfied with nothing less than seeing the murderer of her friend die by her hands— but revenge is rarely as sweet as one would hope. (twitch, yt, video)

Strobelati: A cheery cloud person who’d never hurt anyone— at first. She feels emotions very strongly, whether it’s love, despair, or rage. (twitch, yt, video, vods)

TrashyPandius: The local assassin for hire, who happens to be a raccoon. He carries out his hits with an edgy but nonchalant attitude; murder is just business to him, no hard feelings. (twitch)

ViolettaFire: The server's therapist who could really use some therapy himself after everything he's been through. Xe's a pacifist, but don't mistake xyr kindness for weakness. (twitch, yt)

Winsweep: He’s sick of all the egotistical fools around him, and he doesn’t take issue with spilling blood for the sake of solving that. But is this truly him, or is it his mask that’s doing the talking? (twitch, yt)

Xpyz: A set of three semi-immortal beings: the first is gentle, anxious, and just wants her mom back, the second revels in others’ pain, and the third remains a mystery. (twitch, vods)

Zolister: Willing to play the role of a hero or a villain, depending on what he thinks will benefit the community. Solves issues with violence, and by sacrificing their own happiness. (streams on twitch and yt, vods, videos: 1, 2)

ZombieDwarf: There’s two of him: one is a robot who wants to see chaos in the world, and the other is said robot’s creator. Both cannot co-exist in the same place, so they have to decide which one of them will stay. (twitch, vods, yt, video)

SO MANY these are not in order they're just whatever i could think of. also idk if you mean like vod recs or just like fave days either way i'm gonna list them somewhat like recs

the french speakers' arrival is a wonderful day from several povs (bagheras, cellbits, quackity's, although his is fairly short as always)

similarly, brazilians arriving is also great! watch any of the brazilians or q or roier or even phil who was losing his mind waiting for them to give the eggs back

WATCH A DAY 1 VOD!!!! if you already have watched one pov, watch another from someone else! day 1 vods are so funny and deranged and really set the initial tone that really was the server's vibes basically up until the brazilians arrived

the egg event day! tbh watch any pov but roier's and jaiden's are really really good

the conclusion of the happy pills arc was an incredible day; i know it's probably soured for a lot of folks, and that's understandable, but if you never watched it and feel up for it, check out pac's and cellbit's pov of it because it's wonderful (pac didn't stream the actual conclusion himself, so you'll have to watch cellbit's to see the full conclusion of pac and forever getting the risus antidote)

idr what day it was exactly but the day bobby was killed by the code and lost his first life is a super interesting vod from several povs-- namely roier's, cellbit's, phil's, bad's, and probably some other folks? a LOT of lore stuff happened that day that was super interesting

cellbit's may 7 vod (featuring the cucurucho chainsaw hallway) + his may 10 vod (featuring him screaming and revving a chainsaw at the sight of cucurucho); tbh, if you're into qcellbit, watch his first week vods if you haven't because they're IMPECCABLE they decided to immediately torture him and also gave him so many puzzles it was great. this whole era of theory bros/ordo theoritas was incredible generally too so max's and bad's vods are also very very fun watches and they didn't spend a million hours deciphering an ARG so their vods are easier to get through

the day wilbur found tallulah is so fucking funny we were all losing our shit over the admins making an egg literally just for wilbur and to his credit wilbur did actually log on a ton those two weeks

bagi's arrival IMPECCABLE tbh watching anyone's day 1/arrival vod is a good idea they're usually pretty enlightening & fun; watch her pov as well as anyone else's because from what i remember they had to do a bunch of weird puzzles to get to her

similarly, carre's first day is very funny and chill vibes very enjoyable

gemeos do misterio reveal need i say more

the time roier and vegetta got quackity drunk at casualonas and got him to reveal his plans to kill the eggs on tape

literally any roier vod frankly roier is just so entertaining i could watch him wash dishes and have a good time

jaiden's birthday party vod

jaiden's vod where she was going on a break (i think when she'd been to japan?) and we got the reveal that she'd worked with the feds in the past

whatever day it was where they went and found kameto again in some federation hq

the juanaflippa life trial was deranged i didn't watch it myself (i think i was at my nephew's birthday party or something tbh) but every part of it sounded WILD

related, the funeral streams from any of the parents whose kids died are pretty interesting

the day quackity found out tilin died is BRUTAL but a great watch-- q is, of course, a brilliant rper and what he did with tilin's death was masterful and really heartbreaking. i think it was the day after tilin died? something like that

bobby dungeon. obviously. that was crazy and it set so much up for jaiden and roier's chararacters gahhhhh

the event with the new members' arrival (like tina and everyone else in that whole big crew)

any romero richas moments i cannot think of dates or anything off the top of my head but montelyson lore is so cool and genuinely creepy i miss it so much

the furniture prank came at such a wrong time but it was genuinely so fun along with the deranged waystone prank i lowkey wish they'd happened like. three days before or something bc they would've been really really funny

Ok, so, I've never watched any of the qsmp streams, but I read your rambling about it and read your one shots abt it, and uh do you have any advice on how to get into watching the streams? Like where do I start? How to catch up on missed lore? Stuff like that

well there are a lot of different POVs you can choose to catch up on and which one(s) you choose will definitely affect your understanding of what's going on. if you want to just catch up on the primary major story beats overall (federation lore, main egg lore) this channel on youtube has made 3 videos so far summarizing the lore as it goes on. I haven't watched these videos myself so I can't say how accurate they are or if they leave anything important out, but I've heard positive things!

now if you wanna catch up on more individual lore/character dynamics and all that then you're facing a bit more of a challenge. I believe quackity has most of his qsmp vods uploaded on his vod channel so you can definitely check those out for his story stuff. if you wanna understand my fics better wilbur has the smallest number of qsmp vods out of the cc's at least somewhat tied into the storyline so it shouldn't be too hard to catch up on his stuff. his vod from day 1 of the qsmp has one of the funniest moments from any wilbur stream ever (yes I am referring to that moment he was talking to max) but I don't think you need to watch a ton from any of the day 1 POV's after the first hour or so.

while phil is the pov I watch the most for qsmp, he's definitely less involved in the plot. but unlike what I keep seeing some people on twt and tumblr say, he DOES participate in the rp and does care about the lore. he just doesn't go out of his way to get super involved in it and likes making 4th wall breaking jokes. but yeah if you're looking for more lore based stuff, phil might not be a great pov to watch as your primary.

now bad is the english speaking cc most involved in the heavy federation lore stuff, so his vods are definitely good to check out if you're looking for an english speaking cc to watch. jaiden's also definitely tied into it and has her own very interesting plotline going on atm involving the federation, but she doesn't stream as often so there are a few more gaps with her compared to bad who's been daily streaming for months now.

now for the cc's who don't primarily speak english, it's definitely a bit more of a challenge to watch those POVs if you don't speak the cc's language, but when many cc's are in a group they'll usually switch to english since that's the most common language on the server. also there's the translator that most of them have up on their screen, but it's not super accurate and a lot of the time cc's forget to switch it between languages so I don't rely on it much. for lore stuff, cellbit is a great choice because he's been heavily involved in investigating the federation and solving puzzles and all that since he first got on the server. from the french side, baghera jumped into lore stuff pretty quickly too so I highly recommend her pov as well

again I don't know how detailed/what the summary videos do and don't include but if you see clips from certain streams on that summary video that look interesting, I definitely recommend going to the vod itself and watching at least a bit of it. the group dynamic between all the players on the island is so delightful to watch. so many great friendships have formed bc of this server and it's so much fun to watch them grow in real time.

more than anything though when you're trying to catch up, go through the tumblr tag! follow people who liveblog a lot! follow the updates accounts on twitter! I actually don't catch many streams, but I'm usually pretty up to date on the big plot stuff happening on the server at all times just from what I see on my dash. read posts and check out the tags to absorb info via dash osmosis. that's how I caught up on dsmp when I first got into it back in january 2021 lol

I will tell you this in all honesty, I have never experienced being shocked from a news before. I would say or type such expression since its the most appropriate thing to say when in disbelief. I was watching a movie when I randomly reached out for my phone and the first thing I saw is Gamma's termination notice. And I will tell you, that was the first time I actually felt being shocked from a news.

This really didn't say much as always cause of NDA. But I hope the person behind Gamma is okay. I remember him talking about one of his previous jobs and that he was let go but has taken a positive attitude. I know getting into a company is a blessing but in times like this, you just realize its a double edged sword.

Gamma isn't my kamioshi, but i do watch his streams from time to time. I like watching his Karaoke and Minecraft streams live or as a VOD. I'm not really much of an artist but I do enjoy watching or looking through his art. He's that loud voice that just hypes you up. We'll make some noise for you, always!

Compared to Vesper's and Magni's graduation, I wasn't as sad. I knew where to find Vesper and Magni but Gamma, since he is Japanese, it'd be a miracle if any of the kaigai niki / overseas bros would find it. Compared to the girls, I don't know if any of the Japanese fans would share if he is doing okay.

i posted this as soon as I was able to compose myself. i really should study Japanese again. I was watching his streams but i don't really understand what he was saying. the fireworks are pretty though.

the sad thing is, Gamma is terminated, which means his VOD will have to go. i have no means of archieving but i will try with at least my favorite karaoke streams and covers. maybe i'll host it on facebook privately. as for the pictures, as far as i know they don't wipe twitter/x (like yozoka mel's twitter), so i'll go throught that last.

starting tomorrow, i'll try screenshots of my favorite Gamma YT posts here. my intention is to keep Gamma's spirit alive. so he won't end up like Kaoru or Suzaku. i want to be able to say, Gamma is cool. the hyper party mangaka is freakin awesome.

i'll also continue to post clips of gamma. i know one of Cover's rules for clippers is to not post of clips from privated VODs but i hope they can bend this for graduates and those terminated. i know clippers who are earning from clips have to follow the rules but i hope they can keep it up.

just in case i want to say; this, my Tumblr, is just a blog. from what i've observed, you can earn money from here but i don't. the intention of this blog is to share the things i like, hence the name, wutlaikalikes.

The folly of being multifaceted strikes again.

I think maybe I just gotta stop trying to make art streams work for me, at least until I'm an Affiliate and/or can get some better internet...

So if you don't know, twitch has a timed achievement system that tracks your various stats from your streams. The requirements for the Affiliate achievement, which allows you to apply to get paid, are as follows:

Get 50 followers

Stream for 8 hours

Stream on 7 different days

Have an average of 3 viewers

That's it. Sounds so easy right?

Welllll... no....

Gaining followers is a very, very slow process. (I get it, I was incredibly choosy about who I follow on twitch at first, too.) It's maddening, but it's also the one statistic that doesn't "drain" over time, assuming people STAY followed.

8 hours streamed is probably the easiest requirement to hit. But you can lose it if you don't keep streaming, twitch only counts the most recent 30 days of activity.

7 days is the same deal as hours.

3 average viewers is the one that's got me worried about doing art streams, however. My game streams are the only reason I'm coasting by on an average of 3.5... every low turnout art stream I do chips away at that average.

I've had two good art streams so far in the past 30 days: one on a Wednesday afternoon/evening where I was making sticker designs and @shiftythrifting raided me with their audience (💜🧡💜🧡💜), and last Saturday/Day 2 of Frankentober, where I was doing a prompt randomization drawing challenge (of my own weird design) and had basically bribed people to watch with promises of giveaways. ^^;;;

Those streams still had lower passive view counts than my game streams, but they were over 3 at least. The rest of my art streams have been trending worse than that.

Why?

It's harder to vamp when you're actively trying to work on a drawing. That's the main reason speed draws are the norm on youtube-artists dub over the footage after they're done. Drawfee's an outlier, managing to vamp to live drawings by being a multi person team. (So 1 person draws and the other 3 vamp.)

Games are easy because even if you're failing to be entertaining at least the game itself is entertainment.

I'm not completely used to drawing for an audience yet, so generally I tend to come off as overly nervous or low energy. The more art streams I do, the better I get at them... but....

My internet connection is terrible. I can only stream crunchy, 480p video. Which doesn't do my art any favors. (A chatter said on Saturday, upon winning a sticker sheet of my Merfolk: "OH!! You're a GOOD artist!!!" Which made me laugh! ...and despair, a little bit. ^^;;;;;;; I am a trained and practiced artist, but fuck if my crunchy streams aren't doing their damnedest to obscure that.)

So. What to do.

I could switch to making speed draws on youtube, and just game on twitch. But there are several reasons why I really, REALLY wanted art streaming to work out for me:

Having a set work schedule really helps my ADHD, and having an audience helps me focus better

When I manage to get some active chatters it's REALLY fun!!

I was hoping I could use the vods to make shorter vids for youtube... but due to the low settings I'm forced to stream at, it's pointless.

I don't have much disk place on my pc for recording videos, and it's been 7 years or so since I last did any video editing and I'm not looking forward to looking uo tutorials to try reminding myself how to work a video editing suite. >_<

So idk. I wish I felt confident I could afford better internet, cuz that's the big linchpin here.

But random ideas I could try:

Try streaming art at a bunch of different times on a bunch of different days and see if that helps... (tedious, and more likely to hurt my view average even more.)

Give up on 2d art streams for awhile and embrace the mad science angle: stream trying to learn Blender instead.

Also I still haven't tried setting up the webcam to do needle felting yet. If I can find an angle where my boobs stay out of shot, that could be something? (Difficult, there's a reason I want them chopped off. They get in the way for everything. )

Set up a Discord server for my patrons and ko-fi supporters and do work streams of my 2d art there, so that in theory I can still get some of that precious audience-created focus my adhd-addled brain needs so badly

Stop streaming art on twitch and try art-focused streaming site Picarto instead

Ahhhhhh it's all just... maddening. Idk.

that was the most interesting part of the article how there wasnt anyone really under 40 to take the mantle of the previous generation and there isnt alot of actors under 40 that would make you go to the movies.

I think a part of that has to be how the media landscape and our access to celebrities have changed. The previous generation if you wanted to see your favourite actor you had to go to the theatres to see them. Now with social media, celebs are available through instagram, twitter, tik tok and your constantly bombarded by celeb updates, there opinions, video interviews which has led to an influx of people with parasocial relationships with celebs. The younger generation of actors have utilized these for their brands but at the cost that air of mystery that clear separtion between celeb and fan is gone. Fans can easily access to there favs on social media without ever having to spend the money to watch them in theatres.

That didnt really happen in the past like the previous gen of stars had an air of mystery to them you only had access to them through magazine interviews , red carpets, gossip but thats pretty much it.

I think it's more so due to how the "celebrity world" has changed greatly due to social media. Then, there's also streaming.

Lots of factors to consider.

I also feel like studios are less likely these days to take risks or make films that may or may NOT become box office hits. 🤔 When you're only wanting to make films that are "sure things", you don't allow for RISKS, growth, or creativity in the film-making industry. 🥴

I need our generation of actors to step it up out here lol 😆 🙃 😂.... But I ALSO need Hollywood to take more chances on us. 😔

I personally think we have some really good solid, promising actors in the industry under 40 who have the potential for longevity and putting butts in seats....

Tom, Zendaya, Timothée, Florence, Anya, Austin, Paul, Michael B, Jennifer Lawrence, Barry, Chris Hemsworth, Halle Bailey, Callum, Mike Faist, Josh O'Connor, Jharell Jerome, Janelle Monae, Letitia, Nick Robinson, Taylor Russell, Jenna Ortega, etc.

The list goes on and on....

But Hollywood just has to take a chance on us as the younger generation, and allow us to build our own legacy. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I think another thing that's hindering the success and advancement is the fandom wars too.... 👀 Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I don't think fandom wars existed like this decades ago when the OG celebrities are younger and popular. I think back then ppl just embraced them ALL!

People loved Denzel AND Tom Cruise.

People loved Ryan Philippe AND Paul Walker.

People loved Whitney AND Mariah.

Now days....??? 🥴 Now days, being a fan is almost like practically being in a darn near CULT lol 😆 😅

If you're a fan of X actor, then you mustn't be a fan of Y actor!! And don't you dare watch his films either because that would be a traitor-like offense! 🥴

1. (🐶 What hermits do you watch?) I watch Grian, Mumbo, sometimes Scar, Joel, Skizz, sometimes Gem, and sometimes just anyone if I feel adventurous enough and click on it in my recommended YT.

2. (😺 Who was your first hermit?) Grian. Although technically Joel, since I'm pretty sure I binge watched the entirety of X Life before I watched any HC, but Grian.

False, because she seems cool and she is not one of the main Hermits I've seen in others' videos, and she was on Empires 2 and I just want to watch her.

I find Twitch hard to operate at the best at times and completely unusable at others because of the devices I have available, and not a lot of people consistently stream on Youtube. I also don't have the time or patience to watch streams without the knowledge of when it'll end, so there's that too. I am amicable to VODs, sometimes.

10. (🍂 How many hermits are you subscribed to on YouTube?) Had to check my subscription page why the fuck am I green how am I green da ba dee da ba dai oh I'm stupid okay let's goo. Anyways apparently I'm subscribed to 141 channels total and at least four of those are tommyinnit.

I have a dedicated doc to every season of the series and watch a ton of that content. I enjoy watching Gem's and Impulse's individual Skyblock series. I love Skyblock. I think I once watched False's too.

I guess that's it for The Game Awards 2022. It's still kind of early in the night. Maybe I'll watch SuperButterBuns' VOD of her reactions. I wonder if Professor Thorgi did a reaction stream.

Anyway, here are my remaining reactions that I let pile up instead of posting as I typed them.

6:47 PM 12/8/2022 Oh. Oh? What's this? Big stage performance with big fantasy staging elements? o Halsey Lilith? So many costumed cloak people and a big demon in the back of the stage? Nice. Ooh. Big architectural thing. O.o Wait. Blizzard? Is this Diablo? Y'know, I never looked into what the story was about in Diablo. Are normal humans travelling into hell? Is hell invading Earth?

6:52 PM 12/8/2022 Best Audio Design. God of War Ragnarok won. I'll be honest: I didn't know who to vote for. But I was so tired of car racing sims and military shooters winning this category, even though I know they do painstakingly gather the realistic sounds. I just wanted some recognition for a fantasy series that has to make up sound effects for creatures that don't exist, magic that doesn't exist, etc. I think that type of creative sound design is much more impressive these days. At least to me.

Best Action Game. Bayonetta 3. Hell yeah. Doug Bowser accepting the award for Platinum Games. I forgot it was a Nintendo game---franchise since Bayo 2. lol

6:59 PM 12/8/2022 I need to note something. Normally, TGA feels too padded with repetitive trailers, that it feels more like an ad show. But tonight hasn't felt like that at all. Normally, award shows feel so annoying whenever they try to have presenters appear on stage or point out stars in the audience, or especially when they have banter/skits. But none of that has felt annoying to me tonight, astoundingly. I guess it's different---effective when you care about the people taking up the time in the show. Even the devs that I've never heard of, you can feel how important all this recognition is for them. Normally, they get overworked and never recognized. So all of this, this awards show, feels special, whenever the camera turns to them, gives them stage time, gives them a chance to talk, etc. It's nice.

7:09 PM 12/8/2022 Also Keegan Michael Key is doing a comedy skit on stage, and normally I hate those at award shows, but this is nice. Y'know what really helps? This audience is so interactive. The cheering and reactions really help avoid any sense of awkward silence, waiting for jokes to be funny/entertaining. Keeps things flowing. Also the fact that the presenters/banter/skits tonight have been few, but also talking about things I'm actually interested in, when it does get used in the show, really helps. Is toad's mushroom cap a hat?...or not? Hm...???? ^o^ (But also maybe I haven't noticed the banter I'm not interested in, because I'm too busy typing/posting through it. lol)

Both in terms of interesting AI support during gameplay, and for narrative. The protagonist isn't really alone. Angsty, but still emotional support too.

Oh, it's Crash Bandicoot. He did Tweet something yesterday that put everyone on alert. I didn't know they're covering the mascot wearer's face now. Good choice. That was fine for short commercials decades ago, but I don't really want to see a real man's face through Crash's teeth in an awards show's lighting. Because of the circle indentation/patch in Crash's teeth, I can't tell if they covered his human face at the last minute, or if it's purposefully visible as a joke.

But I did a little research for this aspect of the nominees. And there was one game that said it could be played by blind players, and I was just just blown away. THAT is an accessible videogame! I'm sorry, I was blowing my nose and couldn't hear what that 2nd person was saying. But interesting that TGA dropped out the music when they realized another person started talking. That was really nice of them. How many times have I seen the Oscars cut into the final speech and then even just drop the feed sometimes? But they dropped the music to accommodate the winners, then just brought it back up after he was done talking. Easy. Good.

might you please give a dummy's guide to the outsiders smp? i've been considering watching it for a while but haven't known where to start, who to start with, or (since i haven't read the maze runner) even any sort of idea what exactly is going on.

Hello hello of course!

Outsiders SMP is of a minecraft roleplay server very heavily focused on lore. It starts from the initial perspectives of 11 amnesiacs waking up in a clearing, the Maze towering around them. And as time goes on, they will make bonds with each other, encounter new people and discover things about both themselves along with the maze they have been trapped in.

(Just a small note, there were other members that were in that group. But for reasons had since been removed from the server and written out of the story.)

Now with the small summary out of the way, there are currently twenty content creators on the Outsiders SMP with each one having a perspective, ranging in different levels of involvement on the server.

You can find a list of the ccs involved on the wiki, which is contributed by the community, but also moderated by the ccs as well (do be aware there are of course spoilers on the wiki, but for the page linked it should just be the outsiders ccs links I believe, with summarized events below them):

The Outsiders SMP is primarily streamed by Twitch, vods being avaliable in varying capacities due to Twitch being Twitch. But links are available as mentioned on wiki.

And if you wish to catch up quickly there are Outsiders ccs that are making Youtube recap series of their own perspectives. Some more recent in starting, others further along and closer to recent events. The following are some examples:

hello I have come for Joe Hills propaganda. if I wanted to get a taste of the stream experience, what is the best VOD to watch in your opinion?

alright. alright. i have been looking at this ask and trying to decide, because i'm not actually much of a vod watcher. i watch streams and then they immediately exit my head. however i have done my best to suggest some good ones here! people who watch vods more and have favorites feel free to add on!

his recent stream day stream is a good option if you just want a good, fun joe hills stream. it is, generally, a typical joe stream, but it has a lot of fun bits! large parts of it are just lighting up a cave, but a lot of joe streams are like that - frequently he's just kinda doing his minecraft chores between recording segments. also it gets through most of the face camera expansions, so you can get a feel for those! also, whatever grian and scar were doing there in the background at the end was something,

if you want one of my favorite all-time wednesday crafting streams... here it is. the birth of cleowo.

here's one of the bad fanfiction writing streams. please also watch his season 8 halloween episode though because the streams themselves i don't think quite do justice to the final effect. also i'm pretty sure he deleted everything he wrote in this stream. it's just, y'know, the vibes.

because this is a forever interest to me, here's the last stream anyone did from the hermitcraft 8 server. literally the last thing anyone filmed on it before they filmed the finale. most of it is just him reading a christmas carol with mr. hardluck (he'd actually done most of his own last recording segments in the previous stream), but the ending still sits with me. also if you haven't experienced joe hills reading you something... this is sure an experience, alright!

this is another one of my favorite of his big moon streams: in which joe and cleo switch everyone's beacons to jump boost, which will definitely help, and definitely have an effect.

and lastly, here's a fun hhh stream, when they were building the nether tunnels in season 8! hhh streams in general are fantastic and i recommend you catch them if you're free on monday afternoons (or, like me, work from home so can get away with watching them while debugging).

can't guarantee these are all the BEST of his vods - like i said, i'm not a vod watcher, and thanks to the fact he records stuff in streams that go into his episodes my brain gets pretty mixed up sometimes as to what happened when (for example, i cannot for the life of me find the vod where he accidentally blows up grian's house otherwise that would be on here). however, i think these are all pretty good vods, and should be fun to watch!

thinking about the fact that ranboo's lore is hard to get into and impossible to get the full picture of without watching literally hundreds of hours of vods that may or may not be archived and also are occasionally scattered across other peoples vods completely randomly including but not limited to awesamdude, philza, capt. puffy, tubbo, tommy, fundy, or wilbur and that many of *these* vods were not archived, not to mention the ARG. and also the fact that this is by design and when given the opportunity to rectify this by doing a recap stream, ranboo did it "in character", meaning a vast majority of these smaller details were completely omitted and lore in chill streams is completely unlabelled because cc ranboo just didn't want to do it, or because he wanted people to watch his streams regardless of if it was lore or not so countless scenes are buried and lost to time, even those that give vital information to his character, such as the two scenes with the plan board that i hardly ever see referenced. and cc ranboo insisting you can understand his character without following the enderwalk arc and then like half of his solo lore is exclusively about the enderwalk arc and ive been following this trail of crumbs hopelessly for over a year now and i have to deal with people having shitty uninformed lore takes and i have to look at this and know that it was done by design that you can follow ranboo lore and get the broader picture through recaps and analyses but will you ever experience digging through or archiving ranboo's inventory from stream to stream to pick out when things were happening off camera? or will you ever stream hop in the middle of the school day for the hope of maybe spotting him wandering around in the background of another stream, maybe sending a cryptic message in chat? do you still watch every single stream trying to connect it to ranboo's story somehow, and then somehow manage to be RIGHT even when ranboo hasn't logged on in a month? do you theorize and theorize based on information given to us a year ago and get that confirmation a year later, only for people who haven't been watching from the start to insist this just means he was manipulated and has no autonomy? and you just have to sit there and hunt for clips that may or may not exist because c ranboo is unreliable and cc ranboo is allergic to confirming anything about the enderwalk state, knowing that this misinformation is by design and so much of this arc is preserved in your memory and in analyses long lost to time or deleted discord servers with months of backlogs and liveblogging from this era. theres so few clips to prove anything outright because none of this information is ever given outright. it's implied, suggested, spread across 4 streams. its a culmination, a build up over time repeatedly slowed down by scheduling issues and real life getting in the way. and it SUCKS because so many of these facts are what make this story well written. but it also makes it exclusionary by design and things get abandoned and pushed to the side and maybe retconned maybe not, maybe reworked and adjusted and it all adds up to something but it's impossible to know what and i adore this story. i adore it because i've had this experience and i've been there from the start. it just makes me a little bit sad because it seems to gatekeep itself and if i weren't a college student and super fucking busy, i'd do it. i'd rewatch the streams from december, january, february, march, and i'd document it all. i'd clip it and give you all the information i build my perceptions of this character off of from back to front, but i physically cannot and that makes me sad. maybe this is a commentary on how inaccessible the DSMP is but it feels like ranboo turns that up to 11. i've been hyperfixated on ranboo's story for over a year now and i want to share that experience, and i do in every way i can. but it's fucking hard sometimes.

ok so I'll admit I haven't watched the full Tommy alt vod yet. Mostly because I watched just a bit earlier (right before/when Wilbur joined) and it was making me so uncomfortable and sad haha but here's my take sorry it got long lmao

0. context for those unaware

everything kind of came to a boiling point yesterday (?) when Tommy made a joke on Twitter about Schlatt:

so people have been upset because it sounds like Tommy is poking fun at people who dislike Schlatt (for various reasons, but the majority of people who dislike him cite his his past use of slurs and jokes that he's made [most infamous being the Jackbox video])

1. Schlatt

I have a lot of feelings about just the dude alone lmao. I admit that I do watch a lot of his content even though that Jackbox video really was just a big wake-up call for me in feeling upset at that genre of his jokes. It sucked to see him and others make a joke out of people who are rightfully outraged at racism, when he has shown so much capacity to be funny without relying on lazy shock humor (literally the Fragrance Man stream and the Minecraft but videos with Wilbur are some of my favorite videos/streams of all time). But I think since that video Schlatt has taken that to heart and hasn't done that shit anymore, though I wish he'd actually vocalize that, so I've felt more comfortable still watching him I guess? Idk it's just hard for me, same when I think back on Soothouse and think about some of the jokes that were made during that era which make me a bit upset.

2. Wilbur's advice to Tommy

Tommy appeared on Wilbur's stream today and briefly mentioned how he's thinking of taking a break from Twitter (timestamp: 1:36:52, you can also see a transcript of likely the most important bit here). I have so many thoughts about what Wilbur said to Tommy here!!

I'm really glad to hear that Wilbur wants Tommy (and presumably other people with platforms) to be politically active. Overall, I don't think we should be lifting up & expecting content creators (especially young Minecrafters lmao) to be pinnacles of political activism. ABSOLUTELY NOT. But I think if you have a platform of millions of people, not using that platform to help & uplift others is a huge waste of potential & opportunity for even a bit of change.

As an adult, in an ideal world I wish NO KID OR TEENAGER felt the pressure to learn about politics or to be an activist. But as a person of color & a member of the LGBTQ community, I felt essentially forced into that role based on pure survival like... you think about the "extreme" cases of people like Malala Yousafzai and I can't even name how many teens I saw in the frontlines of BLM protests & the awful border camps. So many parents have to have the talk with their kids that the police and EVERY INSTITUTION are going to treat them differently just because of shit they can't control. It is very much a privilege to be able to be a 'normal teenager' and I wish it wasn't.

3. Tommy's response

Nonetheless, I think it's important to recognize that Tommy himself has many pressures on him that I can never begin to understand. The biggest being that he has hundreds of thousands of eyes on him during streams, millions of people follow him on Twitter and Youtube and TikTok.

I can already tell from what I saw of the alt stream (which has been taken down now) that Tommy was really really anxious about what's been happening on Twitter. I genuinely think this isn't completely routed in fear of being 'cancelled', I genuinely think he wants to make his community inclusive and he likely saw fans of his upset and alienated by his jokes.

I definitely don't expect Tommy to be as seemingly educated as Wilbur is on various issues. Wilbur himself is educated but doesn't really talk in depth about politics (which I think is a good thing; when it matters he will speak out, but the best voices to uplift aren't creators lmao that leads to a lot of idolizing and placing them on pedestals or tearing them down if they get something even slightly wrong even if their intentions were good). Wilbur is 24 years old and IN THE STREAM ITSELF told Tommy about how he used to say homophobic slurs when he was older than Tommy currently is, and he's talked a lot about how he hated the person he was up until like 21 years old.

I think people really need to keep in mind how fucking clueless and susceptible to bad influences white boys are. Remember how many white boys got caught up in the alt-right pipeline during that Pewdiepie era (up to the Christchurch shooting where I feel like he finally vocalized his complete disavowal of that). Of all people to essentially be the next Pewdiepie, I'm glad it's Tommy, but he's only 17 and he's not ever going to be perfect. I want to give him as much time to learn how he wants to use his platform, but in the end I just hope he uses it for good and that he takes care of himself.

In regards to tonight's stream, there are a couple of things I'd like to point out, as I think it could be useful in the future.

Real fast, as this was a late night stream, I'll quickly relay what the buzz is about for everyone that missed it. Ranboo streamed on his alt and seemed a little off. He abruptly ended stream and announced a break on Twitter immediately after. He started the stream saying he would delete the vod as he planned to play coprighted music during it. I haven't checked to see if he remembered to do that, but if he did, don't stress about it. It wasn't a grand delivery of content, as it was on the alt.

Anyway, I think it's important to point out some key behaviors he displayed on stream so that we (the viewers) can be aware and able to catch them in the future. Do note that if you do notice these behaviors, don't point them out in chat. That will just stress Ranboo out. Just be mindful not to push any buttons and be generally kind. Ranboo knows his own mind, he'll realize to take steps back on his own. Several thousands of people telling him what to do would just discourage him.

When he started the stream, he was very soft spoken, which is unusual. Throughout the stream, he seemed to get fussy at just about everything—the music, the enemies, his weapon, his own noise level. This is also abnormal behavior for him, as he is typically laid back and easy-going. When he ends the stream, he does so abruptly with the soft stressed tone returning. He was profusely apologizing and sounded incredibly stressed. Ranboo usually struggles with ending streams, but in those cases he's simply awkwardly bumbling through rehearsed lines. Tonight, he sounded stressed and wanted to end stream as quickly as possible.

Another thing to point out, is that at the beginning of the stream he was silent for a minute or so texting. He then abruptly ends stream about 45 (ish i wasn't watching the time, really) minutes. I'm not bringing this up in an attempt to peer into his life or anything. Dear Lord, no. This truly is a Ranboo problem. I'm bringing this up to remind everyone that we truly don't know if the cause of his behaviors tonight was internal (for example, mental health) or external (for example, family responsibilities). I do think that whether or not it's internal or external will determine how long he takes his break. If it's internal (likely woke up feeling depressed and pushed through a stream anyway), then he'll be back after one or two days. Ranboo is prone to moodswings and depressive episodes that only last a few days. If it is external, depending on the situation (that we would likely not hear about), he could take the entire week off.

Either way, this is a good time for us as a community to work on stability in the fandom. Get some structure and some projects going. I'm sure there are artists and writers planning to post that will keep us busy. Even if Ranboo takes the week off, we should be able to keep ourselves busy just fine.

Also a reminder for those that need it, we cannot help whatever is happening with Ranboo. In our position, we cannot change anything, so it's best not to worry. He's got enough people in his life worrying for him. All we have to concern ourselves with is this community and its functioning. That is all.

I do hope I don't come off as preachy or anything. It's getting super late where I live, and I know there are people who are going to wake up to, like, #RanbooSupport trending and getting confused. Chat was quite tame tonight, but I also thought I'd post in case people where "are you okay?????" in some future stream like that's going to help. It doesn't. It just stressed Ranboo out and makes him think we aren't enjoying the stream.

Also, do feel free to add anything else y'all may have noticed in tonight's stream or a previous stream. Or any part of this post you feel is worth elaborating on. I do enjoy a good discussion. Good night.
