I made that observation previously here: (https://blubberquark.tumblr.com/post/626318840051171329/accessibility), because it's the same in German, and the German "Barrierefereiheit" even means the same, when translated literally.

But I took it in the completely opposite direction. "Barrierefreiheit"/accessibility-as-absence-of-obstacles often is a carve-out, a specific accommodation for people with a specific kind of disability: Ramps, screen readers, high contrast mode, braille, automatic doors...

"Accessibility", on the other hand, is this broad concept. Accessibility also means ease of use, ease of getting into the thing, whether a facility is open one day a week or five, and how long it takes for people (able-bodied or not) to drive there. Accessibility can mean mass appeal or how long it takes to explain the premise. In online discussions, people often talk about "accessible" hobbies versus inaccessible ones, or accessible books, or accessible TV shows. The accessibility of different anime shows is not about subs or dubs, or clearly mixed audio, but also about how many episodes it takes for each of them to get good.

Super Smash Bros is a fighting game/a franchise of fighting games where Nintendo characters you already know fight each other. Guilty Gear is a franchise of fighting games with deep lore. It makes intuitive sense when I describe that Guilty Gear is less accessible. You wouldn't think the controls of Smash are somehow harder to use for people with limited mobility. I mean, maybe they are, but you know I don't mean that.

People get tripped up when somebody talks about accessibility in the broad sense, but someone else interprets it in the narrow sense, or vice versa.

In the context of books, you know which kind of accessibility I mean. In the context of buildings, you know I mean what you call"esteettömyys" and what I'd call "Barrierefreiheit".

But in games, it could go either way...

I like how "accessibility" in finnish is esteettömyys, "obstacleless-ness". Having something be accessible is worded as the absence of obstacles. Obstacles as foreign objects that can and should be removed, instead of framing "access" as something that's specifically carved out of solid material for you as a special little treat.

So Harry knew the band was breaking up and Louis didn't? Then they're not together anymore, I assume. Or do you think Harry lied to Louis about it being a hiatus? It's so cool that you found this out tbh, I wish Nouiam were as clever as you, so they wouldn't had to unintentionally lie to us for three years and keep bringing up the band and a reunion now, even though they know it's broken up. Harry truly is evil, huh? It's probably greedy, scheming Jeff whispering in his ear since 2003 :/

i think it’s pretty clear whoever sent this doesn’t actually have any interest in what i have to say, but i suspect i must’ve hit a nerve if they so hastily decided to mouth off at me, and i figure, why not address some of what they’re talking about? 

the problem with people like this anon is that they live in a world without nuance or grey areas. i question whether people with this attitude have had experiences in different workplaces, have been hurt or themselves hurt others (whether intentionally or not) or whether this is the only avenue they’ve decided to be incredibly dogmatic and turn a blind eye to everything that goes against their fairy tale.

yes, i do believe harry knew he was done with the band. you don’t sign a 3 album deal, release a single named after Prince’s first album after his band disbanded  on the anniversary of that album, and send out a press release citing the similarities. you don’t create a commercial that is thematically about rebirth – wet, in the dark, stepping towards the light – unless you’re trying to show a rebirth and evolution from the past. you don’t blacklist your old band. you don’t try to erase the band from your past by seemingly being unable to utter the words ‘one direction’ or the names of his former bandmates unless absolutely necessary. you don’t get a tattoo representing freedom and display it on your first opportunity to be seen outside of the band.

yes, i do believe jeff and irving have been whispering in harry’s ear (and probably were whispering in louis’ ear as well, back in the day) since they entered the picture. why else do you think harry got so close to them? do you think he just became such good friends with jeff that he decided to bring him on tour with him? the azoffs did this to no doubt, as well, did you know? they singled out gwen and promised the band they would take them on. and they did, briefly, until the band realized that irving did not actually have the band’s best interest at heart. he was interested in keeping them on the backburner as he and gwen built up her solo career. do you think they just stumbled into a perfect rollout and brand building? i guess it was just destiny. he was made for it so no planning was involved, no deals were struck, everything just serendipitously fell into place?

there’s also the timeline: who did what, how soon, and how planned was it? harry started building his brand and his image while still in 1d. i think it’s pretty clear that’s travelling separately is about, what the suits that stood out were about, what h v ot3 was about – especially since he has no problem being seen with his current band and participating in antics he shunned with 1d. he started working on his solo work immediately, started filming his documentary immediately, built his “indie” band as soon as bhasker was on board. meanwhile, niall was backpacking, liam was working behind the scenes, louis was stuck in a hell of stunts and watching his mother’s health decline from afar. 

there’s no “finding this out” or being clever–in fact, i’d call myself a moron for not seeing things much sooner because the writing was on the wall pretty fucking early. but your point is “why didn’t nouiam know?” well, you know, it’s hard to see things when you’re in the middle of it. and as witnessed in the fandom, that cried about how harry was absolutely not going solo up until the point his commercial was released is it really that surprising that they would’ve turned a blind eye to what was going on? and yes, i do believe louis and harry were together at least until the end of 2015. but you know what i don’t think? that louis was involved in every meeting about harry’s career. why would he be? and maybe harry was cajoled into going bigger than he first anticipated– i don’t know. i don’t know a lot of things. i’m just looking at what i’m seeing and drawing conclusions from that. and are least i’m not visiting blogs i disagree with to be rude about how much i disagree with them. 

as for them “lying” to us now– are people really pretending that what niall and liam talk about when they talk about a reunion is the same thing people imagined at the start of the “hiatus”? because here’s what i imagined: them coming back as a unit with no end date in sight, recording new albums and touring and being an active band unit. if you can’t tell that the “reunion” that’s being hinted to is a short lived nostalgic cash grab rather than an actual reunion i don’t know what to tell you. and maybe you’re content with that. that’s your prerogative. but you don’t get to be rude to people who thought the band would return as a unit, rather than as four separate solo artists basking in the past and cashing in on sentimentality, just like countless bands before them have.

i don’t know a lot of things, but i do know that 1d dissolved their touring companies. i know that harry has taken credit for asking for the hiatus. i know that he’s the only one who didn’t give a timeline for when the band would be back. i know that liam reassured people the band would be back in early 2016. i know that he, niall and louis all expressed that they didn’t want a hiatus. i know that they all changed their tune when talking about the “hiatus” and a reunion. life, plans, intentions are not static. i can only look at the limited info we do have and draw conclusions from that. and sometimes my conclusions will change, because things change, and hindsight is a helluva an eye opener. you don’t have to agree with me. but i’d appreciate it if you kept your unproductive comments to yourself.
