CRYING THOUGH I can't wait to watch more First Penguin😭😭😭I was reminded of these two dramas where Tsutsumi's characters spend some time in America and do speak English. I don't remember what one of them was but for the One English Line he spoke in that, his accent was so good I was kind of shook... and God of Risk has one ep featuring Gratuitous English. I think that was one of my first Tsutsumi shows, and the only one I know Yokoyama's seen too lol, but naturally I don't remember anything else about it

👻 ghost: can you tease some wip ideas that have been haunting you/something you want to write in the future?

All of my novel, honestly 😂 I’ve been stuck in the planning phase for so long! I’m really excited to get to the scene between Niki, Jay, and Ryka in the church. I have this image of sunlight streaming through the stained glass windows, throwing splashes of color onto the ground as Ryka sprawls on the stairs leading to the altar, Niki holding her rapier to his throat as Jay talks her down from killing.

I still have ideas for the Beauty and The Beast retelling that I’ve been meaning to write for a couple years now. I read about the Celtic lore of werewolves, how a werewolf could only remember their humanity if a loved one called them by name. It connected in my head with the idea of names being a part of what makes us human, God giving Adam the responsibility of naming the animals, naming as a way of creating, of being. The idea of Beauty naming the Beast and therefore reminding him what it is to be human really stuck with me.

Come to think of it, names feature a lot in my stories! One of my favorite moments in the first draft of Order and Chaos was when the lord and lady said each other’s given names for the first time in the narrative. It’s so poignant, and plays with how giving up your name is equivalent to giving up yourself.

Most of my writing tends to be rather angst-filled, but here’s the first scene of the second draft of Order and Chaos! Some cute bantering between the two main characters.

Hair fell into the lady’s eyes, escaping the tight braids wound about her head, but she had no time to brush it away. Her opponent was already swinging at her again. She blocked, the dull practice swords ringing against each other as she stepped away. Avoiding her fellow combatant’s strike, she swung her own sword, locking her hilt with his and making a grab for his blade. He evaded her, aiming for her head with his pommel. She ducked, and he grabbed for the back of her gambeson. It was the work of two steps and a quick grab to send him flying over her back and into the dust. Spinning, she aimed her blade at his throat, smiling even as she gasped for breath.

“Do you yield, my lord?”

He coughed, looking up at her and squinting in the sunlight. “Very well, my lady.” Pushing her blade aside, he rolled over to push himself up onto his feet. In a moment, he was standing in front of her again.

She laughed, smoothing back the hair that had escaped from her braids. “I am surprised. It is not often that I beat you.”

“Perhaps not, but you did this time. Would you like to go again?”

“There is not another partner you would rather spar with?” The lady asked, looking around at the other combatants scattered around the practice court. Aisling was sparring against Simeon, the two quite evenly matched. Larken sat against the rail, chatting with Damian as her sword lay forgotten in the dust. The other attendants sparred or stretched, exercising alongside their master and mistress in the newly-born morning sunlight.

Looking away from the other combatants, the lady’s eyes met Alistair’s. He had evidently been watching their bout, his own bout with Donte finished. Just as quickly as their eyes had met she looked away and back to her own partner.

He raised an eyebrow at her. “Are you trying to avoid me? Or just trying to avoid being beaten again?’

She smiled, raising her sword. “Not at all, my lord. I have beaten you once this morning, I have no doubt I can do it again.”

“Do you not, my lady? We shall see.” He raised his sword into a guard position.

The lady raised her own sword, waiting for him to make the first move. This bout went even more quickly than the last, and within a few strokes it was her with a sword at her throat. She laughed, stepping back and admitting her defeat. “Very well, my lord, you have the advantage of me.” She shook her head, rolling back her shoulders. “But as you have been beating me since we were twelve years old, I should not be surprised it has continued to this day.”

He smiled. “Perhaps not, my lady. But I also do my best not to repeat the same mistakes on the same day.”

“Are you implying something?” She asked with mock-offense, unable to keep the laugh entirely from her voice. His smile and easy manner comforted her, after the dour melancholy she had seen on his face for the past two weeks. It felt like the sun coming out from behind clouds. An appropriate metaphor, she thought, seeing the golden suns emblazoned on the breast of his white gambeson. They mirrored the silver moons embroidered on her black practice garb, and she had often thought over the past ten years that if the symbols had been chosen for them, rather than for their offices, they would have been switched.

“No, my lady,” he replied. “I only mean to say that I will not be falling for the same trick as before. At least not today.”

“Ah, but there is always the hope of tomorrow.”

“If I happen to forget, yes,” he said dryly. “But in all probability, I will best you as I usually do.”

“I can always improve,” she pointed out, stepping back and tapping her sword on the ground to shake off the dust. “You beat me far less often than you used to, even though you have the advantage of height now.” She shook her head, smiling, and looked up at him from a full head below his height. “I thought somehow I would always be taller than you when we were fifteen.”

“You were taller. But I had hardly begun growing.”

“And I have, alas, stayed the same height since.” She huffed, and put her sword over her shoulder. The other bouts had also ended, and all were drinking water and wiping their brows. She glanced up at the sun, noting its position. It had been three hours since Mass, then, and soon her handmaidens would be chivvying her towards a bath and her studies. It seemed a waste to leave the last of the summer sun, when autumn was so near––perhaps she could bring her books into the gardens, rather than sit in the tall library tower.

Mayerling (1978)

Before we properly start, I need to say that this was a ballet and the version I watched was a bootleg of a 2014 production performed by the Stanislavsky Ballet. It had some weird cuts and transitions in places but the video is two hours long and I didnt feel like anything was missing, so its probably fine

I liked this well enough although I suspect that might just be because this is only the second ballet Ive seen so Im still just kinda blown away by the frankly insane ways in which the dancers move, but other than that, there wasnt really much that I enjoyed and I feel like this medium isnt really for me. Or idk, maybe I just need to watch better ones, like the swan lake performance that got recommended to me after I was done with this, they've been putting that one on for like a hundred years so theres probably something for me to like

My feelings about ballet in general aside, the main thing that dampened my enjoyment of this one was the fact that I couldnt tell any of the female characters apart (or the male characters aside from Rudolf, but those guys didnt really matter and mostly appeared in small groups anyway) which made every scene kinda confusing which made it hard for me to get invested. Like, my internal monologue for most of the first two acts was something along the lines of "okay, so is that Mary that he's dancing with? I feel like that doesnt really make sense for this part of the story but that looks like her dancer. or wait no, i think thats actually countess Larisch??? or maybe thats one of Rudolf's mistresses whos brunette and wears her hair up" So yeah, that kinda distracted me from really investing myself in the story and even the dancing.

Despite that, I did manage notice some stuff about Rudolf's choreography that I liked and that I wanted to highlight.

Okay so, one of the things that I find really fascinating about ballet dancing (the littel ive seen of it) is how unnaturally deliberate every movement is and how that creates a certain artificiality that still doesnt take away from the emotions that dancers are conveying, but Rudolf would sometimes move in a more realistic, kind of 'sloppy' way that I really liked. I think a good example of this is this scene in the second act where he threatens this blonde woman in his bedroom with a gun to have sex with him (?). They fight a little between the threat and the sex and it seems that usually when you have a fight scene in a ballet or a scene where one person tries to flee from another person whos pursuing them, those scenes are just as heavily choreographed as any of the others and even though the performers are very clearly conveying violence and fear, I dont really feel that most of the time because yknow, I can see that its two people dancing together. But during this scene there are these parts that feel very real, like the blonde women's desperate flailing when Rudolf picks her up, and its very discomforting but also very interesting so I liked it.

Another thing that I liked was this move that Rudolf would do where he would jump up and spin around and then land on his knees in a manner that I can only describe as Despairing and one time he started rolling around on the floor in misery afterwards, its really good.

Oh man, I was about to wrap things up, but then I remembered something that I absolutely need to mention: Rudolf's pants are insanely tight in a way that literally none of the other male dancers' pants are and it was so distracting. Also, in the third act his pants are this yellow-brownish color (he had white ones in the first act and black ones in the second) but the lighting sometimes made it look very close to the dancer's skin color so it just looked like he was wearing no pants.

Okay, that's all I have to say. I think ballet enjoyers will probably really enjoy this but Im not much of a ballet enjoyer, so

Gonna put this here instead of on the RP blog since I dont check this as often, but like.

has maybe FNDM considered that Clover’s death is not for Qrow or for his man pain, but has broader meanings and implications? 

There has only been a handful of major character deaths in RWBY to this point, and the great majority of them were villains (Roman, Leonardo, Adam, Vernal is in a weird grey area because of her bandit status). The two hero/protag deaths were Penny (who’s death was later undone) and Pyrrha, Clover now joins their ranks. 

Lets really look at the situation at large. First, RWBY has been making mistakes left and right. They’ve already proven that their goals have led to tunnel vision and that they dont see the larger picture or the consequences of their actions. This is proven time and time again, and for the most part, not only has RWBY faced 0 (zero) consequences, they’ve gotten exactly what they wanted every time. They’ve gotten rewarded for this behavior even before there were stakes. By rights, RWBY should have seen Argus get wrecked because of their attempt to steal an airship and the subsequent fight that destroyed the mech that was specifically designed to fight the godzilla grimm. But they didnt.

This time around, RWBY has messed up again. They went behind Ironwood’s back. All of them had been around ronwood enough recently to know he was paranoid and suffering from PTSD after the fall of Beacon. And yet, Blake and Yang still went behind his back, disobeyed orders, and didnt even bother to hide their fingerprints. 

Actions have consequences.

As far bas as volume 3, Ironwood had given off signals that he was a Might is Right sort of leader with authoritarian leanings. Salem managed to trigger his PTSD so badly that he went full authoritarian military dictator, which he could do since he’d consolidated power in Atlas for years. So naturally, when there was a clear and present challenge to that power, he moved to remove it.

This is what Salem does, she divides. The plan to get all the people of Mantle up to Atlas, and then yeet it up above the Grimm was working. They had time. But remember, Ironwood had Watts’ bag in his office while he made these plans. Salem could listen in on everything and knew exactly what to say to trigger a response. She got what she wanted - Ozpin’s inner circle further divided and fighting amongst each other. 

Now Atlas’ greatest soldiers are decimated. The AceOps are defeated with broken auras and their leader is dead. Winter Schnee is out of commission, but that one we can lay on Cinder’s doorstep.

Now that all that background bs is out of the way, time to look at Clover and Qrow. For one thing, you really need to take the shipping goggles off while you look at this scene. And for another, you have to compare and contrast Clover to his foil of Winter Schnee. They get the information at the same time. They both seem to struggle with it. Winter has an emotional conversation about doing what’s right versus doing what you’re told. That conversation never enters Clover’s head. He says later on right before he dies that he would do anything for Ironwood, which is a sentiment that Winter shares.

And yet, Winter gives her sister and her friends a head start in getting away. 

Clover insists on arresting Qrow at any cost, even trying manipulation and arresting/subduing him in a fight instead of first going after their other escaped prisoner.

Actions have consequences.

Its really. really important to read body language all through episode 12. Clover’s expression has shut down into a professional mask. He’s not angry at all during that fight, but he is determined to do his job. We know he’s not bad, but he does have to bury personal feelings to follow his orders and get the job done. He’s dissociating so he can get his job as a soldier done. “Why cant you do whats right instead of what you’re told.” Instead of wrestling with his conscience like Winter does, he pushes all that out of his mind. 

Furthermore, Tyrian Callows is right there, egging on literally everyone. He also is following his mistress’ orders of sowing division and chaos. He is also a serial killer who likes manipulating and harming his prey. Other people better at meta than me have pointed out how Tyrian has verbally manipulated the shit out of everyone in that plane to start a fight, and on the ground, he was physically manipulating Qrow, purposefully getting into his head so when the obvious consequences happened (someone fucking DIED) it would frame Qrow for it physically, and frame it in Qrow’s mind that he was responsible for this.

All of Qrow’s body language says that he was reluctant to fight. All of Clover’s hesitation before getting involved, the fact that the two of them stopped the fight when Clover’s aura broke... that all indicates that neither of them wanted to do this. But Salem won. Salem managed to create a divide betewen the two of them so deep it was inevitable that Clover died.

But Clover’s death is not for Qrow. Its for us the audience to see that no one is immune from death, not even a popular character that people like and care about. Its for team RWBY because its the first tangible proof that their actions have consequences, and those consequences are sometimes not direct, but have far reaching ripples. The stakes are raised higher than they’ve ever been and RWBY contributed to that.

In conclusion, episode 12 was not about Shocking the Audience with a graphic death, or Burying the Gays, or Out of Character. Its a complex scene that really gets to the heart of this season’s theme: there’s a war on and no one has a good solution, but a lack of proper communication or cooperative/collaborative spirit will lead to people getting killed and Salem winning the fight. Also, maybe find a less obvious way of subverting the baby dictator.

oh god, things are coming to a head here as we near the end. our cast is making big (relatively for the show) moves that shift the dynamics from something comfortable to something unknown. we have only one more episode left, how will i pass the time when this season is done airing?!

we find out that not one but TWO of our 99 crew are planning their departure! i’m distraught for what this means for the band and for their friendship (i love that jun-wan, the one most opposed to the band in the beginning, is like what about OUR BAND?). i’m sure that they’ll still all be tight since it’s been a while since they’ve all been together (given seok-hyeon returning from being abroad, them not working at the same hospital till now, etc), bUT it’s really different from having that comfort and ability to be close enough to drop by someone’s office to hang out. i think that at least one of our two will definitely be leaving (it feels like it would be too convenient for them to both figure things out in seoul by the end), but maybe season 2 will be song-hwa’s return from when she’s finished her year and her neck’s all better... HERE’S TO HOPING....

seok-hyeon’s going through a lot of mixed feelings with his father’s death. how must if feel when someone who hurt you a lot passes? plot wise, it feels really convenient that he passed before the divorce was processed since i am hoping that seok-hyeon will get some of the inheritance, but i could also see dad leaving a mess behind for seok-hyeon, mom, and the mistress to solve. we’ll find out next episode, but i love how much the rest care for him, they won’t even let him say nice things about the mistress’s baby. this is also the first episode we see 99 crew properly drunk, they’re always so responsible with drinking given that they might be called in at any moment, but i feel like jun-wan and jeong-wan really drank in solidarity with seok-hyeon’s grief/happiness/messy feelings. also, best resident min-ha made me LAUGH with less than a minute of screen time! she’s so cute and nervous! i wonder if they’ve interacted much since she confessed. 

jeong-wan’s plot is frustrating me at this point. i feel like we’ve been stuck for a while with the same dilemma, but no movement or growth. since his feelings with gyeol-ul and internal conflict are also not revealed to the viewers, it’s harder to figure out which way you want things to go for him. it’s nice that he’s finally starting to be kinder to gyeol-ul though, she deserves recognition for all her hard work and growth. congrats to her on her first surgery! i dont really care if him and gyeol-ul get together, i just want him to stick around for our crew and rosa! as a side note, i had no idea pediatric surgeons were so rare, jeong-wan, this definitely seems like the higher calling. 

jun-wan’s dealing with a whole bunch himself! he’s growing as a doctor, taking jae-hak’s advice in how to disseminate information to his patients’ family. (lol @ jae-hak slowly nudging him along and giving him cues as to when to say what) his investment in his patients really shows how these cases impact doctors, especially when he was like ‘i cant have a fever now!’ jun-wan! you’re human too! 

on the personal side of things, i’m delighted by how mature his relationship with ik-sun is. their conversations feel real and natural and they actually TELL each other things! in most drama relationships, i feel like we constantly hear ‘i’ll tell you later’ or ‘never mind’ and the dialogue is always something that moves the plot. they’ve decided to do long-distance and even though i agree with jun-wan that three years is short, i know that it’ll also be really hard. it also sounds like ik-sun only wants the happy parts in a relationship and is afraid of change due to her horrible ex. i was surprised to hear how her aversion to marriage is due to seeing ik-jun and u-ju (speaking of, we got to see u-ju/ik-sun!!!). i wonder what about ik-jun changing scared her, is she afraid of a life that’s dedicated only to her (potential) kids? anyway, jun-wan, there are some things you’re holding back from saying though! say it!!! you’re willing to make compromises for ik-sun and i hope she will be for you too. but ik-jun crawling all over jun-wan making the most ridiculous face had me giggling. he Definitely knows about their relationship. 

on to our chi-hong/ik-jun/song-hwa love triangle...

THE FUCKING ELEVATOR SCENE. 

AND THEN THE DRINKING GAME SCENE.

oh my god, where do i begin!!!!!!!! chi-hong, my boy. he really notices everything. the attention to detail and things unspoken does Not escape him. the tension in the elevator was palpable, especially because he noticed that ik-jun stepped into her personal space and gave her a parting touch on the shoulder as he left. when he asked for his birthday present from song-hwa and touched her shoulder, he was imitating what ik-jun did previously. he really wants to have the intimacy and closeness that ik-jun has with song-hwa. and because he wants that position, he notices ik-jun’s feelings. i do enjoy seeing how chi-hong really respects song-hwa and tries to model his behavior from her as a doctor, anticipating and learning where patients are headed as they step into the elevator. 

ik-jun... when you taught the residents and interns how to properly play the drinking game, you were giving them weapons for your own undoing... ik-jun keeps his cards so close to his chest that i nearly DIED from how his hand was forced to reveal his feelings. ik-jun is so nosy himself but he tried so hard to avoid verbalizing his feelings for song-hwa and it wasn’t until chi-hong returned to the question that he said it. cho jung-seok is a phenomenal actor, he dances around so many questions but his face reveals it all. i wonder if he will ever say the words directly to song-hwa. the song was also another roundabout way to describe his love for song-hwa and im slightly worried about how sad some of those lyrics are...

i would give ANYTHING to get song-hwa’s perspective. since i’ve been watching reply 1997, ive realized the thing with ambiguous love triangles is that we don’t really get our female lead’s pov. the lack of POV shrouds our female leads in this air of mystery and creates distance between me and them. while i’ve grown to love ik-jun because we get to see the many layers in him, we don’t necessarily get that with song-hwa since her most inner thoughts are hidden. this is seriously SO frustrating, especially since we don’t have character narration for the show, and i’m like PLEASE GIVE ME SOMETHING ABOUT WHERE SONG-HWA STANDS. at this point, i don’t necessarily know that song-hwa will choose chi-hong over ik-jun, but it’s been 20 years since she first liked ik-jun. i think it’d be completely healthy for her to have moved on, especially given his marriage, and be content with them as friends. ik-jun’s reveal during the drinking game definitely shook up the world around her and i’m wondering how she’s processing this information. i also wonder if asking to be transferred is a way to distance herself from chi-hong or ik-jun...

however this shakes down, i’m going to be really sad to say bye (only temporarily though!) to this show next week. also this week gets honorable mention to the best eating scene--song-hwa and jun-wan stuffing their faces and feeding each other pork belly

The lively chatter of the town seemed dull to him.

A shinobi with no cause, for him the biggest of shames.

And now to top the cake he stumbles drunkly on the streets,the cold of winter does nothing to his skin, and so falls face flat on the floor and his eyes close.

Pure darkness.

He gasps a fresh batch of air,his eyes scan the place, clear Sky,green Grass and an endless sunflower field before him.

He stands up,no hungover,no dizzyness, what is this place?

--you heed the name wolf,is that correct?

A woman says behind the Man, with her arms folded behind her back.

--Who are you?

Wolf asked turning around.

The misterious girl looks up to meet his gaze.

The shinobi gasps softly -- _Jimuwari_

Jimuwari was one of the most emblematic kunoichi, having accomplished many things while in duty,yet one day she left without a trace.

Of course jimuwari wasnt her name,that was left under wraps,how ever the nickname came from a gesture , a sunflower would be placed on the scene when she flet once her task was done,and so the people in town decided to name jer jimuwari,sunflower.

--I see that the myths about me are still sung in earth...welcome wolf...

-w what is this place?

The shinobi looks around him,the Fields seemed to go around forever.

--This place has a lot of names y'know?the field of reeds,or the aaru, heaven...I call It...home

--heaven?am I---

--no of course not dear--her han rests on his shoulder-- it just so happends that you were needed here, follow me...

He nodds,fullowing suit as they made their way to...somewhere.

--You wonder where im taking you...its okay you can trust in me

--how do you--

She chuckles,a soft melodic sound like the chime of a bell.

--I cant read minds if thats what youre wondering, your expression says it all dear

A shadow hovers above them, a house stretches over the Sky, it seemed bigger than what it really was.

-First you might want to take care of yourself, come inside and make yourself comfortable

He opens the door for her,Bowing as he does so.

Even with the years manners still remain, maybe he wasnt as much of a waste as he thought he was.

Jimuwari enters with wolf behind her--Behind that wall theres a kettle with tea,pour yourself a cup of it ,If you so desire

The Man nodds silently and dissapears behind the door.

The woman sighs and grabs two bowls of rice, walking softly to the room besides the little kitchen.

And so there he is, wolf sipping slowly and silently from his tea.

She sits infront of him before handing him the rice.

--So you see, your master,kuro asked me to help you

--i dont need any help.

--If it was true you wouldnt be here,after your crusade with the holy child, kuro asked me to give you a New purpose, today you Will rest ,and tomorrow you Will find the things I need to go back to your world...I would be extremely grateful and so Will kuro

Kuro?he would do anything for his lord,and If he told this woman to ask for his help then he Will do as she told him.

--What do you need?

--First you'll find my weapons,my sword hikari and my bow kaze...they lie beneath a maze,heavily guarded...then you'll go to a village in the mountains,there is an amulet that Will help me go back to earth

The Man nodds --If my lord asked my help beyond the Grave then ill comply...

The womans features soften--But first you must replenish your energy,today you rest,tomorrow to work...

And so it is done, wolf takes just a tiny bit to wonder around the house,a kitchen,a livingroom,upstairs theres a library with a bed and a balcony that faced into the sunflowers around it, and then,the bedroom downstairs in another building just besides the house.

Night falls on the fields,after dinner, its time to sleep, though there was just a tiny bit of a problem.

--I can take the bed on the library, I wont bother

--That bed up there Will give you a back ache

--It Will not affect my abilities tomorrow,mistress

--There you go again with that, call me jimawari or jima...,and theres no way youre sleeping up there

--But mistress-- im sorry mis jimawari im not worthy of sharing a bed with you

The woman huffs and takes his prosthetic hand, almost dragging him outside and into the bedroom..

--sleep,now....

He has no choice but to obey,he lays on the soft cotton bed,green covers slide over him as jimawari's hand Grace his face--You comfortable?

His cheeks redden , he nodds and hides his face on the pillow.

That soft bellchime that was her chuckles is all he can hear before she lays on the bed with him.

--Good night wolf

He can feel her back against his.

hospital playlist 12 (season 1 finale)

as the 99 crew make their next steps, life chugs along and with that comes the ups and downs that the patients are going through

the season finale provides enough momentum to wrap up some plot lines while still presenting new (or persistent) challenges for season 2 to dive deeper into. for me, all the ups and downs with the patients were the highlight of the episode and had me in an emotional mess. we see how much the patients impact the doctors, but also how much the doctors impacted their patients: 

yun-bok was able to thank song-hwa and cry in her arms when she found out that song-hwa was the doctor who treated her mom. and we got to see song-hwa tell yun-bok that she grew up into a lovely lady. 

right when chi-hong’s dealing with the coma patient who’s not going to make it, the cop patient came back to thank chi-hong for giving him the motivation and understanding that he can return to his job. his life is not over because of what he went through. 

jeong-wan stayed up day and night for the 7-year old girl and all his care was recognized when her family thanked him. also when she came back on christmas eve to thank him personally. jeong-wan always gets a lot of fulfillment from his work and i feel like this is the case that convinced him to remain as a doctor and not a priest. 

seok-hyeong. is just. a Fantastic doctor. he’s so gentle and always provides space for the emotions that come with the medical problems that the patients. when the woman finds out her baby has passed?! and then you see all the moms sitting quietly in the hallway listening to her crying. and the woman who had multiple miscarriages finding out that her baby’s in the clear... the JOY. ugh my emotions are ALL OVER THE PLACE.

jun-wan poured in so much care for the patient with the infected stent and watching him deliver the bad news to the parents was so hard. i was so proud of jae-hak for figuring out a solution! gah! growth....

now, onto the more personal lives of our doctors. much has been building up all season and our main five must face their problems. sometimes facing your feelings is all it takes to find a fix, but unfortunately more often than not life requires a deeper dive to untangle all the webs and mess (and means we have to WAIT). 

jeong-wan’s plot line feels the most neatly wrapped up in this season finale. he’s made the decision to stay and not becoming a priest. it’s so obvious to those around him that he finds a lot of fulfillment in his work as a doctor helping kids, but it seems like it took him a lot longer to realize that himself. i really appreciated the moments with song-hwa. she can read him so easily, but sometimes you have to wait for your friend to arrive to the conclusion themselves. as for the love line with gyeol-ul, i was really hoping to see WHY he liked her. the show + all of jeong-wan’s friends and family have spent the season saying ‘HE LIKES HER’ but i dont really see why? i wanted some flashbacks about where his love originated from, because the kiss feel too out of the blue. however, i Am glad and proud of jeong-wan for properly facing his feelings and not denying them! you don’t do yourself or anyone around you any good when you don’t face yourself!! anyway, i look forward to rosa doting on gyeol-ul in season 2 even though it makes no sense. 

seok-hyeong’s father may have passed, but his problems are still there. seok-hyeong’s family situation has clearly created many problems in the past. it seems like his divorce with his ex-wife was primarily due to his family and not from a lack of love. as a consequence from his family mess, he’s forced himself to choose a lonely path so as to not hurt anyone else. obviously, that’s no way to live and seok-hyeong has to make peace with the understanding that while his dad is a piece of shit, he himself can still seek out happiness. it’s interesting to me that min-ha is able to approach him in a way that seems to slowly nudge him out of his shell. i hope that she can continue to do so in a respectful way! i feel like in season two we may see a seok-hyeong/min-ha/ex-wife love triangle. overall, im glad that he’s choosing himself in not running his dad’s company. his dad is an asshole, and seok-hyeong doesn’t owe him anything. even tho i think the mistress is shameless, im shocked that he didn’t leave anything to her. anyway, i wanna see a scene where ik-jun’s like hello dad pls redistribute your wealth to me, your son. 

oh, i fear our poor prickly jun-wan has been dumped. i was so pleased with how the finale was developing his and ik-sun’s relationship until he got the returned package! i loved when jae-hak was like ‘dude, just ask her’ because you can’t assume and guess your partner’s intentions. you’ll just be stuck in an endless loop! although i am on pins and needles to find out the reason for the package’s return, i’m not surprised. ik-sun has a lot that she hasn’t unpacked from her previous relationship. she’s worried about being hurt again and keeps anticipating their relationship’s demise. wanting only happy moments in a relationship isn’t realistic and i think she may have gotten cold feet and jumped ship to proactively avoid the ‘bad’ parts to a relationship. im rooting for jun-wan, he’s trying his best to communicate and be a good partner in the relationship; i really hope ik-sun will also do the work and not ghost him. i hope in season 2, the crew finally meets bidulgi!!!! 

even though ik-jun’s basically all but said how he feels towards song-hwa, we finally see him properly face her and be upfront with his feelings. i’d love to have heard him say ‘i like you’ explicitly, but i know that this is a big step for him. despite being the most expressive of the group, ik-jun’s so elusive. he flits around to different departments and loves to give advice, but he struggles much more when it comes to forging a kind of relationship where he needs to be vulnerable. we don’t get song-hwa’s response yet, but the ending with all five of them hanging out before christmas is a reassuring sign to me. regardless of how song-hwa responds, their friendship and the maintenance of the group is something they’ll prioritize and work to maintain. this means regardless, they’ll stay in each other’s life.  

UNFORTUNATELY, we still get very little of song-hwa. im so frustrated! she’s such a great mentor and confidant, but WHO IS SHE! song-hwa! who do you turn to when you want advice? what’s going on in your brain? what are your fears and worries? from the little clues that we’ve gotten, i think song-hwa’s drawn a firm line with chi-hong. she’s no longer wearing the shoes he got her, and she was firm about him not following her/congratulated him for moving up to chief resident in a kind yet professional manner. i really hope season 2 stops making us guess about her inner thoughts and just GIVES it to us. i need All of song-hwa’s thoughts! as an aside it was cute how song-hwa made space for seokmin to confess to sunbin! 

in the end, i rest easy knowing that our OT5 persists. they’ll always have each other to go back to and have a meal with. i love them, but not as much as they love each other. they argue and fight but the way they make space and accommodate each other speaks volumes to how much they mean to one another. the show’s so beautiful in capturing life’s little moments. while there is a (very slow burning) plot, that’s not what captures me about the show. the beautiful moments are small and mundane. the five bickering about song-hwa and jun-wan eating all the food is such a human touch that doesn’t necessarily add to the plot. u-ju eating egg sandwiches and winking isn’t necessarily ~ReLeVaNt~ but it’s so important and damned if i won’t watch u-ju and his dad have fun! 

season 2 will air in 2021 (GAH) and i wonder if we’ll come back to song-hwa returning after 1 year. things will have changed: our interns will be residents, ik-sun will have been abroad for a while. either way, im looking forward to it!!!!!!!!!!!
