The Aquarium | A Twisted Wonderland Oneshot
Sorry that it’s been a long while. This idea came to my mind recently, the thought of Azul at an aquarium. I could only imagine him looking at an octopus exhibit, wondering what others thought about octopuses as well.
Azul x reader
------------------------------------
You were inside the aquarium that morning, exploring the exhibits even though you knew this place like the back of your hand. All the fishes and sea creatures that you grew up with, waving to them happily. But your favorite had to be the octopus, so fascinating with all those tentacles and how smart they were. You were standing there, just watching it through the glass when a handsome stranger had come up next to you and was watching the octopus too. He seemed to be studying it, surprised since not too many people would check this one out for long compared to some of the other exhibits.
“You’re into octopuses too?”
The young man snapped out of it as he heard your question, realizing it was for him before adjusting his glasses.
“Yes, I guess you can say that. Tell me, what do you think of them? The way they look, all those tentacles?”
Thinking about that for a second, you turned to glance at the octopus on the other side as you smiled.
“They’re so fascinating, having all those tentacles. Imagine if we all had eight arms, we could get so much more done in a day! They’re also intelligent too. One day, that octopus had actually tried to escape the exhibit! While an employee was cleaning the tank, it shot ink at their face before climbing out over the exhibit onto the floor. But I saw it all, so I chased after it and tackled it as it then wrapped me up in its tentacles. Thanks to that, I was able to distract it until the employees found us and were able to get it back in it’s tank again. I think since then it has liked me because when I was able to get up close looking down into the tank once, it pulled me into the water with its tentacles! It’s too bad I can’t take it home as a pet.”
He was staring at you, blinking as he was processing all that and seeing you laugh it off. So then he chuckled and grinned, nodding back.
“Wow, that octopus must really like you. But they are still predators, it must have wanted to take you back to its den so it could eat you. So best be careful around it.”
Now he laughed and you swore that he had smirked, like it was some sort of inside joke that you didn’t know about. Regardless the two of you talked some more about octopuses before deciding to check out the rest of the aquarium together. It was his first time here, so you showed him around and explained all about the other sea creatures and fishes. Then during lunch, you discovered that this stranger, Azul was quite the foodie as he judged the food that you two got from the small food court.
After both of you ate, you took him over to the gift shop where he was surprised by all the soft plushies of the different sea creatures.
“This is also another reason why I like octopuses. Look at these cute things!”
You held up a hand-size super cute octopus plushie with short tentacles that was smiling, placing it on top of Azul’s head. Then you pulled up a GIANT stuffed octopus with tentacles as long as a person, making the tentacles go around and hugging him.
“S-Stop it!!”
He called out, face blushing red in embarrassment as you were laughing so hard. After finally letting him go, you had bought both plushies even though you already have way too many at home as it is. Back to exploring around, you showed him the secret areas that only you knew about and time just blew by while you and Azul were having fun. But then the announcement came over the speakers, calling for visitors to be leaving since the aquarium would be closing in ten minutes as you sighed.
“Aw man! Time really flew by! Guess we have to go, even though I could stay in here all night if I wanted to. Thanks for hanging out with me today. To be honest, I don’t really have any friends so you’re the first, not counting the octopus of course. I wish I could just live underwater, no people to deal with at all. See ya!”
You smiled at Azul, turning around and about to walk away when you felt a hand grab your wrist. Turning back, you saw that it was Azul as he had a smile on his face.
“Wait, don’t go. We don’t have to end this. What if you could have the chance to live underwater, to make friends and have a happier life?”
“Seriously? Are you making fun of me right now?”
Glaring at him, you thought that he wasn’t serious and is making fun of you like the other kids at school. But he shook his head as he pulled out a glossy black pen with an opal gem on the top of it.
“No, I would never. I’m being completely serious here. My world is full of magic and there are merfolk who do live underwater. Let’s just say that octopus and I are more alike than you think, and I won’t let it have you.”
What?? In your stunned confusion, you let yourself be pulled by Azul into one of the employee only halls as he pointed his pen at a wall. The gem glowed and what looked to be a large mirror appeared as it shined and then showed a building that was literally underwater.
“You may not have any magic, but I’m sure I can persuade that Headmaster to let you attend NRC as a student.”
“W-Wait, what are you even talking about?! Ah!”
Not understanding any of this at all, you questioned him and then screamed when you felt yourself being pulled through the mirror along with Azul. Then it disappeared as if it were never there.
