Jing Yuan detests waking up alone in bed without his dearest: his spouse.

The both of you may not go to bed at the same time, but he'd always make sure you start your day together.

It took him some time to adjust to their schedule. On most days, they’re able to spend their mornings together; and on some, one of them would begrudgingly leave the other behind for their duty calls.

Today is one of those days, the general wakes up without their spouse clinging to them. The lack of warmth is off-putting, as dramatic as it may seem. He’s gotten used to waking up with their limbs tangled together, he's gotten used to the view of his beloved's face mushed on his bicep.

Jing Yuan can't bear the thought, though. Why would you ask for a divorce?

It was just a dream and he knew it was stupid, immature, and very much unlike him to take it to the heart — though he thinks his spouse would disagree. ‘You got your whimsy days,’ said his spouse to him once. It never left him since.

A life without his beloved? The person he'd follow anywhere if they ask? The person he'd drop everything for? The sole reason he's still holding on?

He's not accepting that.

When he arrives in the office, he finds you working extra hard. He almost forgets that he's supposed to be 'angry' at you when he sees your immersed in your work. He adores it a lot. He adores how you scrunch your forehead when you encounter something complicated. He adores how you would suddenly stare into the distance and scoff after dealing with a difficult citizen. He most especially adore how you'd smile at him after you catch him staring at you.

All that, and he remembers about the dream.

He lets out a huff before getting started with his works.

Throughout the day, he'd notice you looking at him while he's busy with paperwork and appointments in between; probably wondering why he hasn't looked your way yet.

He almost gave in but your face in his dream flashes in his mind. He went back to work to try and ignore you as his way of sulking when the truth is he already needs your attention.

"Did you wake up in the wrong side of the bed?" you finally ask him after your shift ends, walking up to his desk where he is after making sure that no one is in your earshot.

"I'm unsure what you mean," your husband answers, his eyes not leaving the scroll he's reading.

A moment of silence falls as you try to figure out what's going on. He didn't even spare you a glance!

"Jing Yuan."

"Who's that?"

"Lao gong."

The moment you see him relax, you take the opportunity to ask again but before you can he speaks first.

"Would you ever ask for a divorce?" he asks with his voice faltering a bit.

Childish. Stubborn. Immature. But it made Jing Yuan feel weird regardless. So, he continues.

"In the dream, you served me the papers."

"A dream..." you say, voice quieting as you ponder over his words. You could tell it bothered him enough that he sat on his feelings. The whole day.

"My dear," you call out to him, your voice as gentle as the breeze. You find your way to the other side of the table, carefully cupping his cheek to make him look at you. "I would never. I love you. We're doing so so good. Why should I?"

"And if you decide you want to follow Miss Lingsha's step in domesticating tuskpirs? Would you move back to the Zhuming?"

His questions earned a scoff from you. That's when you know he's back.

"If you keep on eating my tanghulu, I might just."

a cheeky young lady, the owner of a quaint little bakery located in the quietest corner of okhema that he stumbled upon during one of his usual patrols around the city. he always had a knack for desserts and pastries despite his imposing appearance, so when he swung his armored foot into the establishment, hearing the soft chime of the bell, he thought nothing of it.

but when he looked back at it now, was that the moment his life turned for the worse? or perhaps for the best? the crowned prince of castrum kremnos couldn't tell.

he found himself seated under the small canopy infront of her bakery, a small offering to shield the patrons against the eternal ray that shone down the holy city. he was served by none other than the girl that had managed to wormed her way into his heart and thoughts. earlier when she was taking his order, she commented about his muscular form, finding it.. attractive, a sight for sore eyes. usually, remarks about his appearance didn't faze him as he had grown used to it. but thisー? this got him real good. her words had left a lingering warmth in him that he couldn't ignore, both thrilling and terrifying all at once. of course, the pink dusting his cheeks didn't go unnoticed by her.
