you literally just described my entire last relationship .. it is tough let me tell you. i'll tell you a little summarized story and then i'll tell you how i moved on.

so basically i met my ex during my freshman year of college and i was his emotional support girlfriend for about four years (he had a girlfriend for like three of these years) before i told him i couldn't talk to him anymore and cut it off for about a year before i went back and started talking to him again because it was during the height of the pandemic and i was lonely and missed him and his consistent inconsistency and in this year that we were talking i basically begged him to tell me he liked me (because i knew he did but he would never ever give me any sign of interest once he caught wind that i could maybe know), he ghosted me when my grandfather died, and then proceeded for about a year to tell me all about the girl he was fucking around with. we talked from September 2020 to March 2023 when i finally met my now boyfriend (my ex is j to refer to) because i was open with my boyfriend about the fact that when we started talking i was still on and off talking to j, he was like, not very comfortable with that obviously and i totally understood that and respected that so the day we went on our first date i got a text from j randomly (we hadn't spoken in a month before this) and i asked him what he wanted me to do because at that point i just really wanted a reason to tell him off and not feel bad about it and he was like tell the guy to fuck off and i was like yep okay and basically said we're not friends we shouldn't talk anymore if i want to talk to you i'll reach out otherwise don't talk to me and that was the last time we spoke

and truthfully, it took me finding my boyfriend and seeing the way you can be treated when someone is in love with you to fully be like okay this was bad and i don't deserve to be in this fight to pine and feel unreciprocated love forever. i used to think i would have to settle for j when i was like thirty five and alone cause i could never find someone that i clicked with and he just so happened to click with me and be around the few times i needed a "friend" (he was a very terrible friend) and i clung to that so hard even though he was literally so awful. my boyfriend is so in love with me and would do anything for me (i mean anything) and when you finally have love reciprocated it's such a crazy experience because you're suddenly like, woah, in this huge world shift where you realize you don't have to settle for anything and you don't have to sacrifice things for this person who doesn't give a shit about whether you live or die. last night my boyfriend was talking about getting a house with me next year and today we were talking about what would happen if he switched careers and if i would follow him where he had to live like, when someone truly loves you and wants you, you will never question it.

it's so brutal to move on from unrequited love because you always feel like one day they will change, but i promise you that they don't. they don't change. they manipulate you and make you think that what you want is so out of this world, but i promise there's someone out there that won't even meet you halfway, they'll go all the way and you won't know what to do with the love they're giving you. i genuinely think my best advice is to cut communication completely and put yourself out there and just remind yourself that time isn't running out and you can meet people and fall in love and experience real love that doesn't take so much effort on your end.

in my fic, rantaro's *specific* diagnosis is conduct disorder, childhood onset type (as opposed to adolescent type) but like... he knows he's gonna qualify for an aspd diagnosis once he turns 18. everyone around him knows this.

the way things work in the fic is that the contestants backstories are NOT faked, sometimes they will be *tweaked* but team dangan just... accepts interesting people with interesting lives

so rantaro's pregame life WAS him globetrotting to find his sisters, but that was only one piece of the puzzle

i infodumped his ENTIRE backstory b4 i was like man i gotta save SOME surprises for the fic

but rantaros globetrotting also helped w the intense chronic boredom that comes with aspd. but heres... The Thing about aspd. when you do crazy stuff to quell the boredom, that crazy stuff becomes mundane. its like the twink from durarara always says- you gotta keep evolving to escape the mundane

so rantaro globetrots but its not enough. so he does riskier and riskier stuff, getting some fake IDs mainly to take skydiving lessons and stuff, but then that gets mundane so maybe he starts exploring more remote parts of the world and doing shit there and THAT gets him on the news as an ~adventurer,~ which is cool but rantaro HATES that people have this idea of him as a brave adventurer when in reality hes just a thrill seeking sociopath (MORE ON THIS LATER), and things get more and more boring and BOOM youre 14 and have coke nose so bad your sense of smell is near-nonexistant

so that sucks for him, and is the pregame equivalent to the timeloops as a cyclical series of events that largely stay the same but increase in severity

and rantaro KNOWS this is going to kill him young but there really isnt anything he can Do about it outside of hang on to barebones harm reduction shit (i.e. know what drugs to not take together, actually get trained by a non-shady school for whatever dangerous thing he wants to do, fuck off to the ocean or the great plains when everything gets too bad so he can clear his head and not kill himself because he NEEDS to stay alive for his sisters. he NEEDS to)

also the life expectancy for aspd isnt really all that optimistic so rantaro thinks its just a given that hes gonna die young and no therapist will help him because uhhhh ive seen a ton of therapists, the only thing they care about vis a vis aspd is Mitigating Your Harm On Other People. like, aspd causes you to be a danger to yourself and others but people exclusively focus on the "and others" part INCLUDING THE DSM ITSELF which is why i dont respect it

and rantaros mental health in the fic is going to be a lot of things. people will be questioning if he even has it bc he cares about his sisters or telling him that he really should be sterilized or (in the case of the v3 audience) debating on what his "real" mental illness is, and a lot of rantaro's actions will be seen as inherently suspect bc of his aspd because You Know How Those People Are

and in the fic, all rantaro wants is to feel love. like- he loves his siblings, but not as strongly as he did before he got bad. and he just wants to love someone Like A Normal Person

and-- okay. so. this is more of a community term but ive seen multiple people including yours truly use it, but like. theres like, a thing with aspd called an "exception" and thats pretty much exactly what it sounds like- someone who is the exception to the rule of Your Symptoms Existing. and this can sometimes be overwhelming or upsetting bc like. if you do not usually feel affective empathy or remorse, suddenly feeling that shit is enough to knock you completely on your ass

danny phantom episode 4-7 Thoughts: (under a readmore because, these got kinda long!)

-the outfit danny had to buy for dash's party. CLASSIC 2000S i cannot stop laughing. And also showing up to the party and everyone is dressed like the trio is hilarious. and further proof that everyone looks good dressed goth.

-dash has a closet full of cute lil bear plushies?? LOVE that. adorable. also his response to danny trashing his room fighting a ghost was SO valid if somone BROKE MY BED IN HALF ID BE PISSED TOO.

-technus being like 'oh smart, u should be a tutor!' then later being like 'forget tutor, be a teacher!' :) supportive king <3 I also really like his upgraded suit/design. AND SPOCK CAMEO??? HELLO??

-the music in this show is super. its so funky. I looked it up and the guy who does it, guy moon (awesome name) also did music for other cartoons like fairly odd parents, barnyard, chalkzone, billy & mandy, AND some actual movies like FIGHT CLUB??? the whiplash I got from reading that)

-sam being rich explains a lot about her, actually.

-I know the moral of the episode was supposed to be 'dont ditch your friends for popular people/spend a lot of money on clothes that arent You to Fit In'. but tbh. it wouldve been easy for danny to have been like 'well, okay, ill come but only if my friends can!' but I get. that hes 14. so. not a lot to say there.

I know the show has 3 seasons, so by the end of it will they be older? thatd be neat but usually cartoon characters stay the same age...I love shows where you can see the characters age and grow up, though...three seasons seems like a long time to spend on like, 1 year...
