i check out and read a lot of these books for free via my local library by using the libby app (you can even add your friends' library cards to gain access to libraries in places you don't live). when i'm feeling like reading via audiobook, i use libro fm!

look, no one HAS TO read diversely. no one is going to be reverse fahrenheit 451'd and locked in a room with no fanfic and only books and not let out until they work their way through the entire literary canon. but reading, and reading widely, and reading diversely, is what teaches people to form their own opinions and question the things they are told. it's why they hang up stuff like "READ READ READ!!" in grade school classrooms.

we live under systems that increasingly benefit from going unquestioned. no, of course reading ASSASSIN'S APPRENTICE by robin hobb is not going to dismantle these systems tomorrow, nor probably even in our lifetimes. but doing it will help set up a world capable of doing it in the future. and until further notice, we are all part of this wretched world. might as well read a good story while we're here.

what gets me re: kevin with jean is that kevin is seriously the worst. like we see in-text specifically that kevin used to lean into jean’s space to whisper to him and it seems it was common enough to him that he didn’t think much of it (he did it once for asking jean to teach him french then again to make jean promise not to off himself), he said horrible things like ‘it could be our secret’ and ‘i don’t want to lose you’, he wrote jean memories and notes in postcards, he bought jean silly little magnets, even up to the point of tsc canon he was cradling jean’s face and gently touching his hand. so flirty! no wonder jean was down so horribly. no wonder nora sakavic said kevin was always the problem child

if i failed to protect my kid during the apocalypse and they almost died wandering on their own but got rescued by a team of four competent, battle-experienced adults who cared about them very much and made them feel less scared and useless but refused to let them fight, i think that would be a pretty decent outcome and i'd be pretty okay with it. sure i could dream up a better situation but there's a hell of a lot of worse ones too.

hiii, guys!!! Just wanted to do a little life and writing update!

I've been more inactive than usual due to family and health reasons.

To start, I got a small eye infection almost two weeks ago and spent some time away from most of my devices due to eye sensitivity. All is well with that now, thankfully.

After that, my immediate family and I were informed that a close relative was very sick and in the hospital. Unfortunately, they passed away shortly after. I've been mourning and trying to be supportive of those directly related to them, so I spent the following days going over to their home until sickness struck my immediate family.

It started with one person last Monday. The next day, another one. It went like that until I myself got sick with a cold due to the stress of looking after 3 sick people this past Thursday. Then, on Friday, my last healthy immediate family member also got sick with what the first two had.

Everyone is feeling better today, so that gives me hope. I myself feel better despite a little coughing and a stuffy nose.

With everything going on, I haven't written anything. I had no time, and tbh, I didn't have the energy to.

So, that's been life for me lately, but I'll be more active this week, God willing! I was working on NC part 18, FBOW part 2, and a request when everything happened, so all writing has been on hiatus. I have the itch to write already, though, so I'm hoping I can work on my fics and share soon!!

That's the little update! Life has been a little crazy, but I hope things get back to normal soon. Thank you for your understanding, and pls stay safe!!
