Assignment - 5 (pukka + cards) draft 1
The Listening Palate
In the year 2104, food was no longer just sustenance; it was art, identity, and dialogue. Amidst the hum of 3D food printers in bustling urban kitchens, Priya sat with her kajal perfectly applied, the bold line acting as a silent rebellion against the uniformity of the times. The kajal wasn’t ordinary; it was equipped with micro-sensors that captured mood fluctuations and body vitals, offering suggestions for meals tailored to not just health but emotion.
Her institution, Lay Flat Cuisine, had become a global sensation. The concept was simple yet revolutionary: flatten the hierarchy of dining experiences by creating meals that "listened." Priya’s kajal synced seamlessly with her food printer, translating her feelings into textures, flavors, and shapes.
Today, she felt nostalgic—a longing for her grandmother’s coconut laddoos and the comforting warmth of spicy rasam. “Printer,” she said softly, her voice laced with anticipation.
The printer hummed to life, using molecular-level programming to replicate traditional recipes. Priya's kajal fed it information: elevated cortisol levels, a slight drop in hydration, and a need for grounding. The machine whirred, depositing layers of ingredients onto its flat surface. Coconut essence blended with jaggery, while a spicy, tangy broth bubbled alongside.
As Priya placed the dish onto her table—a simple, lay-flat design symbolizing unity in diversity—the room filled with the scent of her heritage. She smiled, her kajal glimmering faintly in approval.
Here, in this institution where tradition met technology, food did more than nourish—it listened, spoke, and connected.

I actually disagree with this. Not because we shouldn't pressure for systemic changes. But because companies don't produce things in a vacuum. And because even if the thing you do itself has a limited impact, the message it can send is just as - if not more important.
But that doesn't mean we should feel like the Climate Crisis is our own personal responsibility. Because it isn't. Trying to minimise our impact is good where is is possible. So is pressuring for changes to make it more possible. But ultimately we are all just people doing our best and it is okay to just live. The climate crisis wasn't made by people heating their house with fossil fuels but solving it will involve people heating their house without fossil fuels. However that is not something you as individual have to implement on every single level by yourself.
Trying to keep your footprint as low as possible is a great way to self-destruct.
And I'm not saying this to people who take two hour showers during international flights while shoving red meat into their mouth. I'm saying this to my fellow activists who feel conflicted about heating their home on fossil fuels even though they don't have any other options (and struggle to afford it).
Like, we can talk about how 'consumer choice' is never going to save the planet and stuff, but more importantly: You are not a sin. Your basic needs deserve to be met. You deserve to be warm and filled with food that satisfies you and you deserve to see your friends.
We are not fighting to save 'the planet', that's a piece of rock. We want to save ecosystems and plants and animals, including people. You are part of that. Don't leave yourself out of the list of creatures that deserve to thrive.
#I hope I'm making sense#I think we should be mindful of our impact#But also not forget that Carbon Foodprints are a PR stunt by BP#Those 2 aren't mutually exclusive yk

random john x jane hc bcz i rarely see any
if jane were to participate during the rounds when john doe is the killer, she knows she cant frantically make hims remember about the good times he had with her, but she does get a feeling that john doe somewhat recognises her [if the spectre isnt being a motherfisher like they are].
Sometimes John would see Jane doe and get that feeling of familiarity and instead of attacking her he just stands still, wondering what this feeling of warmth and safety is about.
Due to this feeling he wont directly try to attack jane with his claws, but only perhaps with his spikes, and his digital foodprint, bit never aimed at her
If he does hurt Jane, he cant help but feel a bit of guilt in him, but he doenst understand why
One round when Jane was severely injured by his John spikes and was on the ground, cornered with his spikes, John doe just approaches her but doesnt attack her, instead he sits next to her, with feeling of warmth and safety beside him
He sits quiet, but slowly leans toward her, Jane is confused, but she i open to this random show of affection from her once-gone husband
[John can be also heard somewhat purring like a cat]
That led the survivors win the round, spectre got mad and banned her from being in the rounds anymore, [or at least the same round as john doe]
John doe gets his memories erased, but he still has a feeling that he is missing something dearly
[cuss warning]
fuck you spectre
🔫🐟
Fuck you Spectre, we all say in unison.

Hello fellow dunnish, Ze here. I've changed the "title" of our devlogs yet again. I suppose that's a form of development, that things have changed, for better or worse. I've taken to call it "tangents", because that seems to be what I write in these things: A few factoids that probably doesn't mean a whole lot to anyone, and a bunch of anecdotes and off-the-cuff remarks that don't necessarily mean more, but at least one of us have fun with!(That's me, btw)
1. Kickstarter progress I spent most of my days packing prints and Nim spent most of theirs cutting them while listening to creepy stories about national parks. Did you know there are supposed to be staircases that go nowhere out in the wilderness? Foodprints that aren't identifiable? Things that scratch at the side of your tent, whispers to you in the voice of your loved one whom you know is miles and miles away from where you are? Yeah, national parks are basically the twilight zone, according to podcasts. Becareful out there, nature-loving friend.
2. Writing Nim wrote and published their first novella! It's a weird mix of romance, horror and erotica. You ever wonder what would happen if you were acosted by a fae in the woods, then decided to follow them and have a wild shag or two? Nothing we can call "good", I assure you. But then again, who wants good? We want interesting. And that's what Many Winters' Briar gets you, an interesting encounter with a fae in the woods. It's completely unlike the Remainder, no one lost their memories, no high magick and tall towers. No world-ending rituals or magick talking cats. Just a cozy time with someone not quite human in a hut who likes berries and pain.

3. The Longing All we did for the longing recently was I THOUGHT about working on it, or rather I felt the urge to work on it squirm quietly in my marrows. That's typical of my process with these things. First the urge squirms in the marrows, then it migrates into the hemoglobin and courses through my veins, then some energetic buildup occurs in the fibres and tissue, then at last the fingers gnarl and twitch and work appears. Yesterday I actually opened up the draft and LOOKED at it. I expect any day now I will be swimming in The Longing again. Watch out for updates; watch along the shoreline for my drenched and cackling form.

4. Agnil's Design I began editing a short story I wrote for Ilar's Teatime stories ages ago, which was a tiny little thing about a magus college student sort of person who had some friction with her mother regarding personal hygiene. Whole thing was about 1 chapter-long if it were a book, and featured 1 character. I know, it sounds incredibly germain, but it's what occurred to me at the time. As I rewrote it, I kept feeling the story was supposed to be about more, and so I nudged it into a slightly different direction just to see what happens. A week later I'm four chapters into what I can only imagine would have to be a novel. Ilar, Vyn, and a few other semi-fleshed out characters were already aching to make appearances. And the threads of the Taldun lore came flowing in from all corners of the realm, and it keeps building. I still have no idea where it goes yet, but sink me it is fun to write. I expect I'll be teasing some of it on our socials soon. It's called Agnil's Design.
5. Other games I also started building another game, just for me, just for fun. It's going to be a rogue-like deck-builder, or as I call it, "body"-builder, where you do some dungeon crawling and collect the body-parts of defeated foe to build your character. I'm making it for no other reason than that I desperately want to play this game and it doesn't exist.

6. Social We are going to dole out bits and pieces of lore, character snippets, new-and-old art, and other enticing stuff over here in the coming weeks. Kindly glue your eyeballs to the bluesky, please. PLEASE, we need the numbers. XD https://bsky.app/profile/the-nim.bsky.social
There, that was less tangential than it could've been, but more tangential than most, I imagine. Big success?
Oh right, if you want to see these images in high res, and a few more sketches, as well as a sample paragraph from Many Winters' Briar and Agnil's Design, head on over to our ko-fi and patreon members section. Your support will help enable us to persevere in our wickedness. You have our infernal gratitude.
#amare game#visual novel#lgbtq fantasy#dark fantasy#many winters' briar#Is it like a canon thing to always put a joke or a micro story in the tags?#because I don't know#I find it lowkey hilarious#Let me know if I'm doing this right or am I just being extremely derivative

First image: Replies on the post. Vampirezogar says: watch out for the brain scorpions though
Nomadbones says: It's the basil
Sicklyscythe points up to the previous reply and says: can confirm, it's the basil that does it
Image 2: Screenshot of a google search. A featured snippet from FoodPrint's Real Food Encyclopedia reads: "The green leafy herb has a history steeped in folklore. In India, it was used to ward off evil and was considered sacred. Europeans in the Middle Ages thought that basil caused the spontaneous generation of scorpions and that even smelling basil could lead to an unfortunate case of scorpions in one's brain."
The blurb below it, from Our Herb Garden, says: "The history of basil dates back over 4000 years and is rich in folklore, dubious science and what many today would consider utter nonsense." End description.
Why does basil smell so fucking amazing

Celebrated in April, Earth Month aims to raise awareness about environmental issues, encourage sustainable living, and mobilize people to take action to protect the planet we all call home.
This year the theme of Earth Month is "Our Power, Our Planet," emphasizing the need to transition to renewable energy sources. The food supply chain accounts for 11.5% of total annual U.S. fossil fuel use, making food production one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. While the number of U.S. farms with a renewable energy producing system increased by 15% from 2017-2022, there is still much room for improvement in this sector.

This means that what we choose to eat at every meal has significant implications for the health of the environment. Here’s why shopping at the farmers market is a great way to minimize your fossil fuel impact and associated carbon “foodprint” at every stage of the food production process.
🚜 On Farm: Primary food production encompasses animal feed production, chemicals, farm equipment operation, heating & cooling, representing 23% of annual energy expenditure
The first step in any food production is the initial cultivation or raising of food, whether it's crops (cereals, pulses, fruits, vegetables, roots, tubers and nuts) or livestock (for meat, dairy and eggs).
Most supermarket produce and other crops are grown on industrial mega farms located in far-off places such as California and Mexico. These farms plant vast monocultures that require massive inputs of water and agrochemicals to grow. This causes biodiversity loss, air and water pollution, and soil degradation. Harvesting is done using giant pieces of agricultural machinery to automate and streamline the process.
In contrast, the produce sold in our farmers markets is cultivated on small, diversified farms. To protect the ecosystem and minimize environmental impacts from energy use, our farmers often hand-harvest crops and use a variety of regenerative agricultural techniques such as intercropping, cover cropping, reduced tillage, crop diversification, composting, and animal integration.
A wonderful example of animal integration is practiced by Great Joy Family Farm in Pine Bush, NY. They use a flock of ducks to help with weed and pest control in their rice paddies by the Wallkill River. The ducklings are command trained with a bell or voice signal to enter the paddies. They tear up weeds, eat snails, slugs and other insects, naturally fertilize the plants with their manure, and oxygenate the water and loosen the soil with their movements. After they get too big and the rice starts to flower, they’re taken to the farm for egg laying. In the winter, the birds are harvested and brought to market, which creates a fully closed-loop farming system.
Like Great Joy Family Farm’s ducks, the livestock on our farms lead a very different life to animals on industrial factory farms. Our farmers pasture-raise their cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, turkeys and other poultry, giving them unfettered access to the outdoors where they can forage for food, move around freely, and enjoy fresh air and sunshine whenever weather conditions allow.
🏭 Manufacturing/Processing: Handling, processing, packaging and storage is the biggest fossil fuel consumer at 42% of annual energy expenditure
After harvest, industrially produced food undergoes a high volume of handling, processing, packaging and storage to maintain quality, prevent spoilage and extend shelf life. Food can sit in storage and on supermarket shelves for weeks or months before it’s purchased and consumed. Additives, preservatives, and artificial colors and flavors are often added to make it long-lasting. Excessive packaging in the form of plastic, glass, metal and paper is also necessary.
This stage of the production process is the biggest fossil fuel hog and emits major amounts of carbon into the atmosphere from running machinery, heating and refrigeration, and packaging manufacture. It also creates land and water pollution by injecting discarded plastic and other food packaging into the waste stream.
Alternatively, farmers market food has undergone minimal handling, processing and storage and typically arrives in the market only hours or days after harvest. Fresh produce is sold loose, while other products have little to no packaging. Many of our vendors will take back empty, rinsed glass containers for reuse. Additionally, we require shoppers to use their reusable totes and produce bags to further reduce plastic pollution.
🚛 Transport, Warehousing, Retail: Distributing and retailing represents 11% of total energy use
Industrially produced food often travels thousands of miles during its journey from production sites to distribution centers and then onto final retail locations. Distributors often have warehouses to store food products to maintain optimal conditions to ensure freshness and quality. Food may be repackaged or relabeled at distribution centers to meet specific retailer requirements or for shelf-life purposes. These activities require large expenditures of energy from burning fossil fuels which adds up to sizeable carbon emissions along the way.
Farmers market food is sold directly from the farmer to the consumer, which cuts out any need for corporate food distributors or other middlemen. Instead of retail supermarket brick & mortar structures that require heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting, our farmers markets take place outdoors using natural daylight and fresh air. Plus, most of our farms are located within 150 miles of the farmers market, which brings food miles, transportation time and associated energy use down to a minimum.
♻️ Consumption & Waste: Refrigeration, food prep, waste management consists of 24% of total annual energy use
The final stage of the food production process is where you come in! This stage encompasses the purchase, preparation, consumption, and disposal of food and food packaging by consumers.
The FDA estimates that between 30-40 percent of the U.S. food supply is wasted every year, amounting to 219 pounds of food waste per person. In fact, Americans throw away more food than any other country in the world, generating significant greenhouse gas emissions. According to the World Wildlife Federation, carbon emissions from wasted food in the United States is equivalent to that of 37 million cars.
By doing your grocery shopping at the farmers market, you are consciously choosing to select and buy food that has minimal environmental impact on the planet from field to fork. To make your purchasing power even more eco-efficient, cut down on food waste by buying only what you need and using up food you’ve already bought before it spoils. Of course, some food waste is inevitable, but you can backyard compost at home, use your municipal food scrap recycling service, or drop off food scraps in the collection bins at some of our farmers markets.
Given the outsized impact of industrial food systems on fossil fuel use and carbon emissions, farmers markets provide a vital alternative for sourcing local, seasonal and sustainable food. We wish you a happy Earth Month and look forward to seeing you in the farmers market this weekend.
