My "Batter" Half
A/N: Written for @tsukimefuku's foodies and goodies challenge. Coming out of a bit of a writing slump with everything going on atm, so I hope this doesn't disappoint.
Pairing: Nanami x Fem! Reader (Desi reader coded)
Rating: E, safe, fluffy, cute
Word Count: 897
Nanami sits on one of the barstools at your kitchen’s island watching you bustle around getting all the grains the recipe called for.
“Sweetie, I only asked if it was possible sometime this week. You don’t have to make it for me right away.”
You shush him, pushing your hair out of the way as you measure the Sona Masoori rice, flat rice, and fenugreek, throwing them all into a large baking bowl and hefting the bowl towards the sink, adding in enough water so that a thin layer covered all of it. You cover the bowl with saran wrap and place it away on the countertop.
There was no question that you loved cooking for Nanami, but something in you glowed when he asked for South Indian food. There was a regular rotation in what the pair of you cooked but when he asked for masala dosa, you melted inside, all of your senses kicking into high gear to feed him what he craved. It was comfort food for you growing up, and it meant the world to you that he had grown to love it too.
He knew the effort it took, an almost 2-day process just to make the batter, so he didn’t normally ask for it. The first step was done, letting the grains ferment overnight in water. You wash your hands and join him at the island.
“It’s no trouble at all Kento. Anything for you.” You rest your head against his shoulder, a soft sigh emanating from him as he puts an arm around you. “Hopefully it’ll be all nice and soft tomorrow. Then I’ll run it through the grinder to make the batter and it’ll have to sit overnight in the oven, so don’t plan on baking anything tomorrow.”
He chuckles, the soft vibrations felt against your hair. “Roger that. But you still didn’t have to get started so immediately.”
“You rarely ask for anything. I couldn’t resist.” You press a kiss to his cheek. “Let’s go to bed.”
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
The next day morning, you check the bowl, pleased to see all the components have fluffed up and taken in as much water as they could. You begin to set up the little grinder that would change the grains into batter, carefully placing the rod mechanism attached to two 5-pound stones into the apparatus. Once in place, you switch it on, and carefully begin adding the grain mixture in between the two stones, adding water to help it along and adjust the thickness. Once all the rice has been put into the contraption, you sit and wait, watching the batter form, checking it for smoothness and ensuring the grain wasn’t clustering into lumps.
You salt the mixture well and then cover it again with saran wrap, then place it inside the oven, where the added humidity would help the batter thicken and rise, making for the fluffiest dosas.
Kento wanders downstairs, ready for work in a crisp shirt and tie, eyes taking in the scene in the kitchen. “Someone was up early today,” he observes as you start disassembling the grinding machine. You give him a pleased smile and carefully set the heavy stones back into the box they belonged in.
“Had to. The earlier I start the process, the quicker it’ll ferment. Who knows, maybe even by tonight if we get lucky.”
Nanami smiles tenderly and pulls you into a hug. “Whenever honey. I’m just glad you took the time to make it.”
You kiss him tenderly before he leaves for work.
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
The day has finally arrived. You check the oven and almost giggle from the delight of seeing the fluffy batter resting in the large bowl. It was ready.
As Nanami slept in, a rare luxury he could only afford on weekends, you begin prepping the dosa filling, throwing the potatoes into a pressure cooker, while chopping onions into half-circles. Once the pressure cooker whistles 3 times, you take it off the flame, waiting for it to cool, before mashing the potatoes. Deftly, you heat the oil in a large wok, tossing in mustard seeds, green chilies, and black lentils for tempering. Once they start to sizzle, you throw a few curry leaves on top, the pleasant crackle bringing a smile to your lips.
The onions and potatoes are tossed into the wok and mixed with a pinch of turmeric, and some cilantro. A fragrant scent fills the kitchen as you set it aside and get ready to make the dosa. A ladle dipped into the fluffy batter, then spread thinly on a greased pan, going in concentric circles from the middle until it starts to heat up and harden, becoming crisp. You scoop some of the onion potato filling and place it in the center, allowing the dosa to harden a little longer before folding it in half and placing it on a plate.
You’re about to start the second one when Nanami wanders into the kitchen, still in his pajamas.
“My nose woke me up,” he says good-naturedly, wrapping his arms around your waist.
You sigh contentedly, laying down the batter for the next one as Nanami breaks off a piece of dosa and tucks into the filling. He chews and swallows, savoring the spice.
“Delicious,” he whispers, and your heart swells with joy, his appreciation the only thing you needed.

Get that Bread, Sir
Written for the Foodies and Goodies challenge, created by the amazing @tsukimefuku !
Ijichi hummed tunelessly, his fingers tapping out a rhythm on the steering wheel. Today was going to be a relatively stress-free day, a rarity in his line of work. And it was a Monday too. A stress-free Monday … practically unheard of! He owed it all to his overly diligent handling of the paperwork from the missions last week. He’d put in some overtime and managed to complete all outstanding tasks before the end of the day on Friday.
Friday afternoon had seen him exhausted, but happy and accomplished. He’d even managed to enjoy his weekend. And today … well. Nanami had requested his assistance on a mission in a quiet suburb, located an hour away from Shinjuku. The research had been run-of-the-mill and the file he’d compiled was handed over to Nanami with confidence that the information would guide him well.
Now, all he had to do was ensure that Nanami reached each location on time and make sure that the hard working first grade sorcerer had something to eat when he returned to the car. Speaking of which …
Ijichi checked his watch and nodded. It was almost lunch time. Nanami would probably complete his work at the marked location within the hour. It was time to go and buy him a meal.
Setting the car in gear, he pulled away from the kerb and drove slowly through the town centre, searching for any restaurants or seven-elevens that looked promising. Ijichi knew that Nanami preferred sandwiches, but was also partial to most food, provided that the ingredients were of good quality. He exclaimed softly as he spotted a small, but neatly kept deli on the corner, adjoining a bakery to the right. It looked like the perfect place to buy Nanami what he preferred.
Pulling up, he parked and hopped out, glancing up at the awning over the deli. It read “Sugimoto’s Slice of the Day”. The small board standing outside advertised that day’s specials: a pork cutlet sandwich, served with salad and a free coffee, and a baked cheese and corn with a pickled garnish and tea. Ijichi’s mouth watered at the thought of the cheese and corn on a cold day like this. He was also sure that Nanami would appreciate the sandwich.
Tugging slightly as his scarf, Ijichi pushed open the door of the deli, a small bell over the entryway tinkling musically as he made his way in. There were a few people in the shop, and he had obviously missed the lunchtime rush. He ordered his cheese and corn at the counter, turning to browse the shelves as he waited. He found some delicious looking croissants, along with a selection of freshly baked madeleines that he had always been partial to. Searching further, he breathed out a small sigh of relief when he saw that there was still one of the pork cutlet sandwiches left. As much as there were other options, this one looked particularly succulent.
As he reached for the sandwich, the bell over the door rang once again. Someone brushed brusquely past him and snatched the sandwich off the shelf, the same one he had been about to grasp. Ijichi turned, indignant, but the sudden hush that had descended over the store gave him pause. The person who had grabbed the sandwich was a stunning woman in a fitted maroon top and dark jeans, the sparkling diamond earrings she wore offset against her lush raven hair. She was obviously known in the area, because the quiet in the store was quickly broken by whispers and glances in her direction. The woman in question was looking at Ijichi as if he were a worm that had crawled out from under a rock.
“Problem?” she questioned, archly.
Now, Ijichi was normally a well-mannered, placid man who would not court trouble of any kind. Under other circumstances, he may have backed down and exited the store without comment, but there was something about this woman’s manner of speech and the way she looked at him, with that small, mocking smile, that rubbed him the wrong way. Not to mention, Ijichi had had to face down Gojo on a daily basis at work. Whoever this lady was, she certainly wasn’t in the league of the strongest sorcerer of modern times. This fact was what made Ijichi’s posture straighten, and his brows draw together.
“Yes, ma’am, there is a problem.”
She had been half turning away, but his words stopped her in place. Turning to him, one of her perfectly drawn eyebrows raised so high it almost disappeared into her hairline.
“And what, pray tell, may that be?”
“I was about to take that sandwich when you grabbed it. In a very ill-mannered way, might I add. I’d appreciate it if you put that sandwich down.”
She looked at him incredulously.
“Do you know who I am?”
The whispers around them were growing in volume. Ijichi’s mouth drew into a stubborn line.
“No, I’m afraid I don’t.”
The woman uttered a sharp bark of laughter. She didn’t bother responding to Ijichi, merely jerking her head at the burly man who seemed to be her companion. Ijichi noted that the man carried what looked like high-end filming equipment, an expensive video camera in his hand. ‘Muscles’, as Ijichi dubbed him in his mind, turned and shoved his bulk behind the woman, allowing her to progress to the counter unhindered.
Oh no. No, no. Not today.
Ijichi was not quite sure what came over him then. Perhaps it was the fact that they were in a small town which he was not likely to visit again. Perhaps it was the fact that none of the other sorcerers or any of his work colleagues were nearby. Maybe the miso soup he’d eaten for breakfast contained some special ingredient that gave him daring.
Grabbing one of Muscle’s elbows, Ijichi manoeuvred past him with ease, his sorcerer training coming in handy. In the same motion, he snatched the sandwich out of the woman’s hand, giving her no time to protest before he slapped some money down on the counter, grabbed his order of cheese and corn, and dashed out the door.
“Hey! You – “
“What the – “
“Get back here!”
“How dare you! Satou, get him!
For all their posturing, Ijichi was a lot faster than Muscles, who he now knew as Satou. By the time people had been pushed out of the way and the bakery door slammed open, Ijichi was already behind the wheel, pulling away from the kerb, swinging the steering expertly. In his rearview mirror he saw the woman grab the video camera away from her companion as they clambered into a white van with some kind of mural on the side. He noted that she had lifted the camera, from where she sat in the passenger seat, and seemed to be filming his car.
Oh no, you don’t.
Accelerating away, Ijichi took one hand off the wheel, raising his index and middle finger in front of him.
“Emerge from the darkness, blacker than darkness … “
Of all the jujutsu techniques, summoning a veil was the one that Ijichi was most proficient at. Although not possessing a huge amount of cursed energy, control and manipulation of the little he had had always been his strength. He could manipulate cursed energy to the point that he could make smaller, condensed curtains over objects and people of his choice. He used that ability now to shroud his car, such that any identifying factors would be impossible to record on camera.
Eat that, lady.
The country roads were winding and empty, allowing Ijichi to use his far superior driving skills to navigate the tricky turns and sharp bends with ease. Although his pursuers would probably be far more familiar with the area, they were no match for a Jujutsu Tech assistant determined to leave them in the dust. Ijichi eventually lost them, pulling to a stop in slightly concealed cul-de-sac. He consulted his GPS, nodding in satisfaction when he realised that he was not far from Nanami’s pick up point.
Emerging slowly from the cul-de-sac, Ijichi drove to Nanami’s location. Standing tall and intimidating in his longer-length warm coat, blonde hair gleaming in the winter sun, Nanami cut a distinctive figure standing on the sidewalk. Ijichi hoped that nobody would connect their arrival in town with the … incident.
Seeing the car, Nanami raised a hand and approached, clambering into the back seat. He exhaled heavily and worked the tension out of his neck.
“Successful mission, Nanami?”
“Yes. No issues. All targets at the location have been exorcised.”
Succinct as always, Nanami relaxed into the cushioned seat with a sigh and rubbed the bridge of his nose. Having known the man for this long, Ijichi knew that there was only one thing that could fix that fatigue. He was one of the very few who was privy to the sight of Nanami surrounded by breads and snacks of various kinds, the chiselled, angular face bulging slightly at the cheeks like a hamster as the sorcerer helped himself to the things that made him most happy.
Contrary to the stoic and cold demeanour Nanami showed most others, he was kind and generous with many things, including his food. He would often share with Ijichi and had even remembered all of Ijichi’s favourites. This was why Ijichi had gone through such lengths to procure that sandwich today. This man, of all sorcerers, was worth the effort. Reaching for the parcel in the passenger seat, he handed the wrapped sandwich to Nanami.
“Here you go. It’s a pork cutlet sandwich, with salad. There’s also coffee in the cup holder and some croissants. Still warm!”
“Ah, thank you.”
It was extremely subtle, but Nanami perked up immediately and unwrapped the sandwich, taking a large bite followed by a quick, satisfied sip from the coffee cup. Ijichi smiled and put the car in gear once again, heading for the interchange that would lead them back to Tokyo.
“Have you eaten, Ijichi?”
“Err … not yet. I’m not that hungry. I’ve got something for myself though, so I’ll warm it up at the next stop.”
He couldn’t exactly let Nanami know his reasons for wanting to book it out of that town as soon as possible.
____________________________________________________
Of course, things never worked out that smoothly for him.
Somehow, the story reached even a few news sources in Tokyo. The strange tale of the well-known morning magazine show host, Maeda Yoshino, who had been robbed of her sandwich by a mysterious dark-suited man. What drew the audience in wasn’t so much the bread snatching, but the fact that on the recorded footage, the car had been obscured by a dark cloud that was shaped suspiciously like a raised middle finger.
Yoshino and her assistant had insisted that they hadn’t seen such a cloud surrounding the car during the chase, but had never closed the gap enough to take the registration number. Yoshino appeared on TV, indignantly describing how the man had grabbed the last speciality pork cutlet sandwich right out of her hand.
Ijichi tried his best to avoid Nanami at work, knowing full well that the wily sorcerer would take no time at all to figure the situation out. It appeared that he had not been entirely successful there either. Coming in to work one morning, he paused as he noted a parcel on his desk. Opening it, he found a beautifully prepared pork cutlet sandwich with a note stuck to the packaging.
Next time, we’ll just go for yakiniku.
Nanami.

One more entry for the foodies and goodies!
Thank you so much @tiny-wooden-robot-fics for your entry. Geto and her are so cute (and the bantering… heh). Also this gave me fried rice craving 💀😂
Egg Fried Rice
Rating: General Audiences Pairing: Geto Suguru x Original Female Character Characters: Geto Suguru, Original Female Character of Color Additional Tags: Fluff, Mentions of food and alcohol, Flirting, Pre-established friendship, Geto and OC are roommates, There is some suggestiveness near the end, This is part of a series
Summary:
“I was,” she admits, “but I realized I didnt feel like working out tonight and decided to make greasy food instead.” She raises an eyebrow, taking his spoon from him and helping herself to his bowl of fried rice. “And anyway, I’m allowed to eat and drink whatever I want, Suguru.”
“The point of cooking enough for both of us is so we can each have our own… is it not?” He looks pointedly at the spoon in her hand.
“It tastes better when I take it from you,” she laughs. She holds a spoonful of rice up to his mouth. He hesitates only for a moment before letting her feed him.
“You’re definitely different,” he chuckles once he’s done chewing. He doesn’t realize he’s said the words aloud until she goes quiet, her brown eyes wide and staring.
Part 1: Sundane (it isn't necessary to read this one first, but it gives you some context)
A/N: What kind of writer would I be if I didn't use my personal issues as inspiration? :)
Read on AO3
He feels a little like a creep watching her this way, but he can’t help it.
There’s something different about her. Suguru has been trying to pinpoint it for months - the change in her that’s made her seem less sweet, less timid and accommodating to the world around her. It’s almost as if there’s something that’s been lying dormant inside of her for a long time and is now finally starting to awaken.
Perhaps it’s the confidence she’s gained from the way she’s been sculpting her body. The little corner of the living room that they’ve designated as their home gym has undergone its own changes over the past half year to match her increase in strength and endurance: heavier free weights added to her personal collection, more resistance bands, a wider variety of kettlebells. She likes to say that she can’t completely change the body she was born with, but she’s trying her best to make it into the body she wants.
He hasn’t said as much to her, but her efforts are paying off in a way that makes him look twice at her sometimes.
Or perhaps the change is because of her hair.
After four years of letting it grow long, she’d decided she needed something different. He’d come home one day to find her in her bathroom with trimming shears in her hand. “I feel so liberated,” she’d told him, a satisfied smile on her face as she admired the haircut she’d given herself. He’d certainly been impressed that she’d had the courage to cut it at all, let alone to do such a good job of it on her own.
He likes it. He thinks it suits her.
And while those things have brought about changes that Suguru can see, he thinks it’s probably the things he can’t see that truly make her look different.
The sadness in her eyes is gone. He doesn’t see that wistful look in her gaze whenever certain songs come on. Suguru knows who those songs reminded her of.
He doesn’t hear her crying in her bedroom anymore, the way she did every night for long months after the breakup. There is no longer the sound of her trying to muffle her sobs into her pillow.
She frowns less and sleeps more.
She seems less… haunted. Suguru knows that those feelings that once pained her haven’t disappeared completely - and perhaps they never will - but he has noticed the difference in how she carries them. They no longer seem as heavy as they did before.
He’s always liked the way she looks, but the things that are different about her now have enhanced that.
They’ve made her more appealing.
She hasn’t noticed him yet. She’s shimmying and shaking around the kitchen to whatever is playing through her noise-canceling headphones, chopping vegetables and combining ingredients to the beat of the song she’s listening to.
Suguru could watch her like this forever, but he doesn’t want to get caught.
He waits until she’s turned part of the way towards the living room before raising one hand in a lazy wave to catch her attention.
And then he promptly curses his own heart for the way its tempo increases as her eyes light up and she smiles at him.
“Welcome home,” she calls loudly. She seems to remember that she’s wearing the headphones and pulls them off of her head to let them rest around her neck. “Sorry,” she says sheepishly, in a softer tone. “I can never really hear how loud my voice is when I’m wearing these.”
“Mm,” he grunts softly, making his way over to the bar that separates the kitchen from the rest of the apartment. He leans forward, squinting at the skillet on the stove. “What’s that? It smells good.”
“Just egg fried rice,” she answers as she stirs oyster sauce into the skillet. She looks at him over her shoulder. “Nothing as fancy as what the magnificent Geto Suguru would make for one of his clients, I’m afraid.”
“My clients are all rich, picky assholes with weird food preferences,” he replies. “I wouldn’t want what they eat anyway.”
She makes a little noise of agreement as she scoops fried rice into a bowl and sets it on the bar in front of him. “Beer?”
“Yeah, please.”
Rummaging in the fridge for a few seconds yields two bottles of the IPA they both favor. She smiles triumphantly and pops the caps off of them, setting one down on the bar and taking a swig from the other one.
“You allowed to have beer?” He asks the question teasingly around a mouthful of food, motioning to the clothes she’s wearing. “Thought you might be getting ready for a workout.”
“I was,” she admits, “but I realized I didn’t feel like working out tonight and decided to make greasy food instead.” She raises an eyebrow, taking his spoon from him and helping herself to his bowl of fried rice.
“Me?” She shakes her head, filching another spoonful of his rice. He lets her. “Different?”
He’s said the words now and there’s no point in trying to recall them. The question he asks himself now is how much of what he’s thinking does he want to reveal. “Different,” he repeats.
She gives him a measured look. “Is that good or bad?”
“Isn’t that a trick question?”
Suguru doesn’t know why his rebuttal question makes her laugh, but it does. She doesn’t seem upset, so he decides to take a gamble and be honest. “I’ll say that it’s good,” he starts slowly, watching in amusement as she continues eating from the bowl of fried rice she’d fixed for him, “but I don’t want you to think it means everything about the way you were before was bad.”
“Oh?” She takes a swig of her beer. “And how was I before?”
“Sad,” Suguru answers bluntly. “Heartbroken… insecure.”
The hand holding her bottle of beer pauses in midair, halfway to the counter. Instead of setting it down, she raises it back to her mouth, draining what’s left. “Congratulations on seeing something not many people have gotten to see,” she murmurs. “Me at my worst. How you can say that wasn’t bad is beyond me.”
“You’re still you, just different. More confident… and happier.” He picks up his neglected spoon. “You ate all my rice,” he laughs, pointing to the empty bowl in front of him.
She laughs with him. “I’m sorry. Here---” She leans over and kisses his cheek. “A kiss to make it up to you.”
He shrugs, trying to ignore the way an innocent kiss on the cheek makes him feel and hoisting himself off of the barstool to join her in the kitchen. He scoops more rice from the pan into his bowl, and she watches him. “You look good,” he tells her solemnly, his eyes still on the food. “Not just your body---”
“Oh, are you saying you’ve noticed my body?” She teases him, bumping her hip against his playfully. “In what way, if I may ask?”
Suguru actually short-circuits for a split second as his brain decides that it needs to conjure up specific images of the two of them in compromising positions. “What the fuck, Val… I’m trying to be decent here.”
His explosive words seem to catch her by surprise. “Wait… what?”
“I said, I’m trying to be decent here.”
He expects her to laugh, to brush off what he’s saying - and what it implies - as a joke.
She doesn’t.
“Since when have you worried about being decent?” She studies him, her head inclined to the side curiously. “You know one of the things I’ve always loved most about you is that you say what’s on your mind, no matter what it is.”
“I don’t think you want me to say what’s on my mind right now.”
She gazes at him levelly. “What makes you think I can’t guess what’s on your mind right now?” Before he can answer, she speaks again. “What makes you think what’s on your mind isn’t what’s also on my mind?”
He stands in the middle of the kitchen, a steaming bowl of food in one hand and his half-drunk beer in the other. There are a million and one thoughts racing through his mind, and somehow his brain pinpoints just one to voice. “What about… that guy?”
She takes a beat to digest his question and what it means. “He’s…” She trails off and looks briefly away from him. When she looks back, her mouth is twisted into a bitter smile. “Weren’t you there? You witnessed it firsthand - how it all blew up in my face. You saw it for yourself… I’m toxic.” She reaches out, plucking his IPA from his hand and polishing it off.
He tries - and fails - not to notice the way her lips fit around the mouth of the bottle, and the way her tongue darts out to taste the beer before she swallows it. “Toxic?”
Her mouth twists again. This time it’s not quite a smile. “Toxic.”
“Hm. Toxic isn’t the word I would use, but that’s a conversation for another time.” Suguru moves closer to her, until he’s backed her up against the kitchen counter and there’s no space left between their bodies. “What you are is a food and drink thief,” he asserts, his voice low and quiet. “Fixing me food and giving me beer just to take it back for yourself.”
“I told you,” she whispers. “It tastes better when I take it from you.”
His eyes are on her lips. “You realize I’m not that guy.” It isn’t a question. “He was a good guy. I’m not.”
“I know who you are, Suguru,” she laughs, a little breathlessly. “We’ve been roommates for three years now. I see how women look at you, before and after they’ve been with you.” She pauses, and her next words are pitched low and quiet. “And I know enough not to get attached. I’d be stupid to think I could ever fill that space.”
“So you’re not looking to?” I’d let you, if you wanted. He doesn’t voice the thought.
“Why would I? I’d never be able to compare anyway.” She swallows the words she really wants to say, looking away from him again with a shrug. “Besides, aren’t you scared I’m gonna poison you?”
Experimentally, he lowers his head and presses a kiss to her neck. He likes the sound she makes when he does that. “The new you seems like she wouldn’t give a fuck whether or not she poisoned me,” he chuckles into her skin. “Or anybody else, for that matter.” He raises his head so he can meet her eyes. “Am I right?”
“Maybe,” she assents, bottom lip caught in her teeth. She pauses, then: “I thought you were hungry.”
He casts a glance over his shoulder at his neglected bowl of fried rice. “I was.”
She reaches up, toying with the tie that his hair is gathered in. After a moment she tugs on it, letting his hair loose and recapturing his attention. “And now?”
He looks back at her. “The rice will be there. Right now, there’s something else I wanna do.”
“What a coincidence,” she laughs, raking her fingers through his newly-freed hair. “There’s something I’d like to do, too.”

The Gift of Surprise: Unveiling Unique Presents
Finding the perfect unique gifts can be a challenge. The usual suspects - ties, mugs, and picture frames - feel predictable. Fret not, there's a world of unique gifts waiting to surprise and delight! Here's your guide to finding extraordinary presents for every occasion.
Experiences over Things: Consider gifting an experience that creates lasting memories. This could be anything from a hot air balloon ride or a concert ticket to a cooking class or a weekend getaway. For the foodie, a gourmet food tour or a subscription box with exotic ingredients can be a delightful surprise.
Personalized Touches: Take a regular gift and elevate it with personalization. Websites offer custom phone cases, engraved jewelry, or even portraits made from a favorite pet's photo. For the crafty friend, a personalized knitting kit with their initials or a custom paint-by-number set featuring a cherished memory can be a thoughtful choice.
The Power of Handmade: Handmade gifts hold a special charm. Support local artisans by finding handcrafted pottery, scarves, or soaps at a farmer's market. Subscription boxes for handmade goods like artisanal cheeses or unique teas can be a delightful ongoing present.
Think Outside the Box (Literally): Subscription boxes have exploded in popularity, offering a curated selection of goodies delivered right to the recipient's door. There are boxes for every interest, from beauty products and coffee to hot sauces and gardening supplies. For the bookworm, a subscription to a service that sends a new, handpicked book every month is a guaranteed hit.
Gifts that Give Back: Show you care about the recipient and a cause they support by choosing a gift that gives back. Many charities offer donation gifts in someone's name, allowing them to contribute to a cause they care about. There are also companies that sell products where a portion of the proceeds goes towards a specific social cause.
Embrace Your Inner Chef: For the person who loves to cook, a basket filled with gourmet ingredients or a set of high-quality kitchen tools is a thoughtful choice. You could even create a personalized recipe book with handwritten family favorites or dishes specific to their cultural background.
The Gift of Learning: For the lifelong learner, a subscription to an online learning platform or a class in a skill they've always wanted to try, like pottery or coding, can be an inspiring gift. Museum memberships or tickets to a historical site or lecture series can spark intellectual curiosity.
Games for All Ages: Board games are no longer just for kids. There are countless strategic and cooperative board games designed for adults that provide hours of entertainment. For the techie, a virtual reality headset or a subscription to a gaming service can open up a new world of immersive experiences.
With a little creativity, you can find a unique gift that reflects the recipient's personality and interests. After all, the best presents are those that show you put extra thought and effort into making someone's day special.

He always took this route to get home. It was his favorite way to get home. Not only that, but it made it so he’d always pass by his favorite bakery. The coffee was exquisite and the pastries brought him straight to heaven.
Kento Nanami didn’t regret never going back to the sorcerer’s life, but sometimes he wondered if working in stocks was really the best for him. Too late to change his mind, as his 45th birthday was nearing and he knew that he didn’t have too long to work now before he could fully retire.
The little bakery was his relief. Kento looks forward to it every single day. Even on his days off, he goes to that bakery. He loves to eat breakfast there. He enjoys sipping on coffee while looking over paperwork. And the thing he enjoys the most there…it’s you.
You with your sweet smile, your soft voice and calm demeanor. You’re the person who always makes his days brighter. Even when his boss is on his ass, he knows that seeing you will be the bandaid his soul needs. So every day, he walks to and fro work and passes by the bakery where you work.
One day, he makes his way there after a long day at work. He’s completely exhausted. The only thing that makes him feel good in this world today will be to see you. He wants to see your smile before he heads home for the evening. After this long day, it’s the only thing he can truly say would heal him.
And yet, when he enters the bakery, he notices you’re not at the counter. He sighs and loosens his tie, approaching the counter to greet the older woman who works there.
“Good evening, okyaku-sama!” she calls to him, beckoning him over.
“Good evening, can I get a loaf of sourdough bread and a cup of green tea?”
She nods and gets started on his order. He already knows how much it’s going to cost him, so he pulls out a few bills and some coins and places them on the counter. He’s disappointed that you aren’t here tonight, but he thinks he’ll be able to survive.
“Here you are! Do you have your points card?” the elderly barista asks him.
“Oh, yes, here you are.”
Kento hands her the points card, and she’s not privy to the sad look on his face. He comes every day, sometimes multiple times a day and it’s mostly to see the young barista who is her favorite coworker.
“She just got off,” the elderly barista explains. “If you hurry out now, she’s probably outside having a smoke.”
Kento’s cheeks and tops of his ears burn, “W-what…?”
The elderly woman laughs, “The young woman you come here to chat up. My coworker? She’s probably outside smoking in the smoking section.”
Kento’s heart flutters and skips a beat. He takes the cup of tea and loaf of bread from her, thanking her for her service. The elderly barista laughs softly, ushering him outside.
He makes his way out, finding you exactly where your coworker said you’d be. You’re sitting on an overturned crate, a tired look on your features. Something about this warms Kento’s heart. He knows he’s not the only tired person in this world. You work hard; he has seen it first hand.
An unlit cigarette balances on your bottom lip. You seem to be spaced out, not really paying attention to anything. Kento notices a few pastry boxes near where you sit. He comes closer to you, smiling down at you. A lit lighter appears in your view.
“Could I light that for you?” he asks.
You gasp softly, the cigarette nearly falling out of your mouth. Kento gently cups your chin to steady you and he lights the cigarette.
“Thank you,” you whisper before exhaling.
Kento procures his own cigarette and lights it up. “My pleasure.”
Neither of you know what to say for a bit. He takes a sip of his green tea, sitting next to you and he smiles. It’s a comfortable silence.
“You’re my regular, aren’t you?” you ask him, smiling at the older man.
He blushes once more, “Am I this obvious? Even your coworker knew who I was…and she made sure to tell me where you were.”
You mutter a curse under your breath. Damn that older woman…putting her nose in your love life.
You chuckle softly, taking a deep drag from your cigarette. “I mean,” you blow out the smoke. “You come here multiple times a day.”
Kento’s eyes widen, “I like the coffee! And the pastries!”
You can’t help but laugh even more now. He was so cute. Quite a bit older than you, but you always liked that in a relationship. You move a bit closer to him, opening up one of the pastry boxes.
“Since you love the pastries so much, why not try this? IT’s a new pastry I’m working on for the cafe.”
Kento’s hands shake as he reaches into the box and pulls out a flaky little pie looking thing from the box. It’s tiny and has a gooey looking center. He puts out his cigarette, bringing the small pastry to his lips. The first bite is exquisite. He unknowingly lets out a moan of joy at the flavor. Gooey cinnamon and butter and nutmeg and…
“That good huh?” you ask, flicking your cigarette.
Kento nods, mouth still full of pastry. “Amazing! Please tell me you’ll be selling these in store!”
You smile. “Well I might just because my favorite customer just complimented me.”
Kento swallows the last bite, his cheeks still red. He never knew just how nervous and shy you made him feel. He looks at you seriously, his mind whirling with a million thoughts. You put out your cigarette, leaning in to kiss his cheek softly.
“If you liked that, why don’t you come to my place sometime and I can bake for you?”
Kento’s at a loss for words, but he manages to say one thing. “S-sure!”
You take out your phone, thrusting it into his hands. “Put your number in my contacts.”
Kento’s hands feel so shaky as he puts his number into your phone. You can’t help but smile at him. Both of you have the biggest crushes on each other and it’s only now that you finally get to make your move.
“Great! So if you’re not busy now…” you suggest, a grin on your face. “Why don’t you walk me home? I can pay you with pastries.”
How could Kento say no to that?

lollipop kiss 🍭 kusakabe atsuya
summary: your workplace crush, kusakabe, is pretty dense when it comes to romance, so you try to ease things out with a bag of lollipops.
cw: gn!reader x kusakabe, comedy, fluff, this man is completely clueless but reader isn’t making things any easier. making out and happy ending. there is a bartender very invested in the drama. a little suggestive if you squint.
wc: 1.4k
notes etc.: my contribution for the foodies and goodies challenge. i’m not tagging myself because the voices in my head haven’t reached that point yet. special thanks to @jjk-eugie for inspiring me, i had hit a slump on this (you can read their kusahigu fic that saved my life here). song (?) > sugar, sugar (the archies). I had a lot of fun writing this, hope you enjoy it too!
Here’s the thing - Kusakabe was a brilliant sorcerer. He was regarded by all of the other first grades as the strongest first grade there was.
Regarding human matters, though, he could - and frequently would - be dense like a rock.
To put it bluntly - not a door, but just as thick.
So when it came to romance, attempts to get his attention usually fell on deaf ears.
When you realized you had it down bad for him, you knew you were in for a ride, to say the least.
First, there were the coffee attempts. You had to call him out for a coffee around three times before he accepted it - according to him, there was no need to spend money going out for coffee when Jujutsu High provided you all with free vending machine coffee. You had to patiently explain to him that leaving the premises for a while was the actual goal.
Then, came the drink nights. These weren’t particularly hard, given he did like his alcohol, but he always invited someone else to tag along. Utahime had the good sense to stop going after realizing what you were trying to do when inviting Kusakabe out, but you weren’t as lucky with the other sorcerers.
And finally, something about the days you went out together always gnawed at you. You felt like Kusakabe was in an unreadable state of mind. He’d either stare at you when you weren’t looking - fully believing you didn’t notice it -, or be the most unbothered person in that place. Whenever you approached him trying to make a move, he would act like he had absolutely no interest in you.
It was driving you insane.
Tonight, you were both sharing a few drinks after a particularly gnarly day at work, exorcizing curse after curse after curse. It was that time of year, after all. You were a few pints of beer in already, and he had downed at least two gin tonics by then.
“I’ve got a gift for you, Kusakabe!” you chirped.
“Really? What? Is it a special occasion?” he asked while looking at you surprised.
“No, I just saw it and I remembered you.”
You pulled a giant sack of lollipops from your bag and put it over the counter.
The bartender was looking from afar, and had taken the dynamic between you and Kusakabe as a live soap opera of sorts, one new chapter each week. Last week, you seemed particularly annoyed at the sorcerer and he didn’t notice it - as he usually wouldn’t unless you were literally screaming at him.
“Okay...” Kusakabe offered, slightly uncertain as he pulled the bag towards him.
“This supposedly has five flavors - peach, strawberry, mango, pineapple and watermelon. Since you always have a lollipop with you, I thought it would come in handy,” you chimed in, sparing him a smile.
“That’s... thanks,” was all he said, and for a moment you thought you saw his face and the tips of his ears take on a dusty pink tint.
“So... let’s taste it?”
“Hm... what?”
His face grew redder, and you were almost sure it wasn’t your imagination.
“The lollipops, Kusakabe. Taste the lollipops.”
The bartender scoffed from the other side, keeping down a chuckle.
“Oh! Yeah, sure,” Kusakabe replied, pulling the bag open.
And off you two went pulling lollipop after lollipop from the bag, one of each flavor.
After about an hour or so of chatting and candy, he pulled the only pineapple one there was inside the bag and shoved it into his mouth.
“Oh, that’s the only pineapple one,” you noted. The liquor-bought courage was finally kicking in, and you were ready to make a move.
“Hm, really? I’m sorry, I didn’t notice,” he replied, brushing the nape of his neck with his hand.
“Oh, it’s no trouble. Perhaps I can still taste it,” you remarked, a cheeky smile pulling on your face as you edged yourself closer to him.
The bartender heard your words and stepped nearby, fairly ignoring someone that was calling from the other side of the vicinity.
This was it. All the drama and emotional investment... The pay-off was finally coming.
“Oh, sure. Of course,” Kusakabe replied, and he signaled for the bartender, which got you and the bartender thoroughly confused, “can you get me a glass of water, please?”
It all went swiftly, much to yours and the bartender’s shock. Kusakabe got the glass of water, pulled the lollipop from his mouth, put it into the water and pushed it into your direction.
He seemed pleased with himself in finding a solution for a non-existent problem.
This man better be joking.
“Kusakabe, you moron!” You exclaimed angrily.
“What!? What happened? What did I do!?” Kusakabe asked in earnest, which just served to deepen your annoyance.
“I was asking for a kiss!” you furiously retorted.
He only registered the ‘I was asking’ part.
“Why not just ask for what you want?! Why can’t people simply ask for things directly?! I’m not a psychic!”
The bartender’s mouth formed a silent ‘o’ before it got covered with an incredulous hand.
The plot thickens.
“God, you have no ease for subtleties! How is that possible!? Are you even human!?” you were actively yelling at Kusakabe by that point, lifting yourself up from your seat.
“And are you allergic to communicating directly what you want?!” he retorted, feeling unjustly chastised for not understanding something he had no obligation to guess in the first place.
You grunted, enraged, and began stepping away from him, towards the bar’s exit. After you left, he face-palmed, upset that somehow, things went south with you again.
Only then it dawned on Kusakabe you said you wanted to kiss him.
“Fuck, I’m an idiot,” Kusakabe muttered to himself.
“Kind of,” the bartender mindlessly replied, forgetting this wasn’t an actual soap opera on TV, but a pretty interactive show.
“Huh?” the sorcerer questioned, not sure if he heard it right.
“I mean... I can put it all on your tab and you go after... Uh... it’s fine.”
Looking at the bartender, Kusakabe inhaled deeply and nodded, grabbing the lollipops bag, shoving it inside his trench coat’s pocket, and running after you.
“Hey!” Kusakabe exclaimed when outside, seeing you a little further ahead on the street.
You heard his voice and picked up your pace, taking a turn into a smaller, secondary street.
“Come on, I know you heard me, slow down!” his steps came quicker, and in a second he was right beside you, while you huffed and puffed in frustration.
“Just let me go home, Atsuya! This is too humiliating. I thought you liked me, but I think I’m the moron who got it all wrong!”
He held your arm and you halted your stomping, even though you kept staring at the ground, thoroughly embarrassed.
“You... didn’t,” he stated, voice uncharacteristically faltering.
“... What?”
Kusakabe delicately turned you to look at him and cupped the side of your face with his hand. His eyes were locked to yours, and for a moment, you felt your heart fluttering in your chest. You could smell the sweet, alcoholic scent from his breath, and that was when you realized just how close he was.
“I-“ he stuttered for a moment before clearing his throat, “I’m going to kiss you now.”
Your breath got caught in its way out for a second before you replied.
“Okay.”
He closed the gap between you both, pressing your bodies together with his hand over your back, and his lips descended to yours softly, waiting for you to meet him halfway. You pressed back against him, drawing both your hands to the nape of his neck, and deepened the kiss instantly, robbing him of a gasp.
Your tongue teased the seam of his mouth, and he welcomed you in, pressing his own tongue over yours.
Oh, you definitely tasted that pineapple lollipop.
His aftershave still lingered on his skin, and it smelled minty fresh, filling up your nostrils in an instant as your lips slid over each other.
You both parted for a moment.
“You know what?” you said with a smirk forming on your face.
“Hm, what?” he genuinely asked.
“I think the pineapple one was my favorite flavor.”
With an amused expression, he suddenly bit your chin, planting quick pecks and kisses down your jawline and neck.
You chuckled, asking, “since we’re out of the bar, would you like to come over to my house? I remember there were still a lot of lollipops in that bag and I don’t feel like leaving them all to you.”
With a mischievous smile on his face, he pressed a quick kiss on your lips before replying.
“Of course.”

A charming and wonderfully written fic for the Foodies and Goodies challenge by @tsukimefuku !
Bento Box Blunder
A/N: A last-minute entry for the JJK Foodies and Goodies challenge by @tsukimefuku! Pairing: Kento Nanami x Female Reader CW: None, barring the gratuitous mentions of food.
The day you stole Kento Nanami’s lunch distinguished itself with an unusual spike in cursed spirit activity, resulting in a flurry of briefings, prep work and drop-offs for auxiliary managers such as yourself.
You’d just returned from one of said drop-offs, hastily grabbing your packed bento from the break room fridge, slumping onto the first bench you found by the campus greenhouse. A pang of hunger now gnawed at your empty stomach, outweighing your fatigue in the process.
You finally opened the box, finding an arrangement that was more akin to what one would find in an artisan catering box, in the form of a ground chicken, scrambled eggs and spinach meticulously layered atop a fluffy bed of steamed rice. An appetizing meal, no doubt.
Only it was not yours.
You swiftly replaced and re-opened the signature lacquered elm finish lid, as though the action would magically replace its unfamiliar contents with the meal you’d diligently prepared the night before.
You groaned as the realization dawned on you: in your fatigued stupor, you had somehow managed to mistakenly take off with one of your poor colleagues’ lunch. As if on cue, a buzzing notification on your phone confirmed that you wouldn’t have the time to return to the staff room and rectify this in time for your next briefing.
After suffering through the remainder of your extended shift, combatting both fatigue and hunger, you finally made it back to a now mostly empty fridge, with your original bento box nowhere to be found. Still a bit scatterbrained from the eventful day, you desperately attempted to process the meaning of all this. Had your colleague taken your lunch in exchange? Had it even left your home in the first place?
“You must be the culprit returning to the scene of the crime.”
You turned to the source of the distinct voice, and found yourself face to face with none other than Kento Nanami.
Prior to this moment, your interactions with the Grade 1 sorcerer had been limited to the occasional greeting politely exchanged as you ran into each other within the campus’ common areas. He kept mostly to himself and you pegged him to be a serious, no-nonsense guy.
And you had robbed him of his lunch.
“I am so sorry, I totally got our boxes mixed up!” you meekly replied.
“I don’t fault you, I can now see how that would occur,” he stated, bringing up a lunch box that matched the one you were still holding, lightly tapping them together before drawing his gaze back up to you. “After all, these are identical.”
You’d always admired Nanami from a distance, even harbouring a small crush on him, sentiments you’d only allowed yourself to indulge within the safe sanctuary of your discretion. Now however, you suddenly grew aware of his stature as he towered over you, of his softer-than-expected demeanour and of the large calloused fingers that held onto your bento box.
Get it together, you thought to yourself, in a desperate attempt to centre yourself back to the exchange at hand. He spoke before you got the chance to do so.
“I was mostly curious to learn the identity of the talent behind this homemade meal. Did you make this?”
“I did, last night,” you reply cautiously, still taken aback by his compliment and its implications. Had he tasted your cooking?
As if reading your mind, he clarified, “I did of course leave your meal untouched, tempted as I was not to, but I couldn’t help but wonder what the sauce was made with, if you don’t mind sharing? It has a lovely aroma I was unable to place.”
This certainly was not the direction you’d expected the conversation to turn.
A flutter of excitement replaced the pit in your stomach, as you described the steps in making your spicy peanut sauce recipe, a dish you’d learned from your mother and had since committed to memory. Nanami occasionally cut in with clarifying questions, borne out of what you now discerned to be genuine interest.
This went on for a few minutes, until one of your colleagues popped into the room to grab a stack of reports, an interruption that served a natural stopping point to an otherwise passionate conversation.
Nanami handed you your original box, stacking it onto the one you were carrying before tugging on the latter in a manoeuvre to trade with you. Possessed in a moment of boldness, you tightened your grip on his box in resistance, the movement inadvertently caused your fingers to brush, resulting in your breath hitching ever so slightly as you lifted your head up to meet his now inquisitive gaze.
“I could bring you some if you’d like,” you offered.
“Pardon?”
“Let me make you lunch? I was going to make a fresh batch today anyway. I’ll bring it tomorrow? It’s the least I can do, to make up for today.” The words tumble out of your mouth before you’re able to register the thrill of a boldness that surprised even yourself.
He ponders this for a few seconds before finally acquiescing.
“Let me clarify that you absolutely do not owe me anything, but if you insist, and only if you promise you’re not going out of your way…”
“Promise, it’s no bother at all!”
That evening, you replayed the surreal interaction in your mind as you meticulously prepped, cooked and packed for your two lunches.
The next day, he graciously accepted your offering. The delightful micro-expressions that lit up his face as he savoured the fruits of your labor more than made up for the previous day’s ordeal.
Less than a week later, Nanami prepared a bento box of his own to share with you - a novel and delicious take on a chicken and egg oyakodon, that he remixed by way of adding some of the spices you’d shared in your own recipe, resulting in a fusion of both your cuisines, a gesture emblematic of reciprocity that was decidedly bringing the two of you closer. In the following weeks, without explicit consensus, you slipped into the weekly habit of taking turns preparing lunch for each other, eating together whenever your schedules allowed for it.
It did not take long for you to realize the extent to which Nanami was a foodie, and a very opinionated one at that. His otherwise reserved demeanour disappeared momentarily, if only for the duration of lunch time, an openness you easily matched, elated at the privilege to break up what were otherwise long and often draining work days in such good company.
Culinary themes easily dominated your lunchtime conversations as you broached upon everything from tastes to flavour profiles to fusion cuisine to kitchen equipment. Slowly, surely, and unwittingly, you both peeled back your layers over the comfort of your delectable shared meals.
Eventually, your discussions veered into other topics. On one particularly busy spring day, Nanami had left you his contribution to the shared meal of the week in the break room fridge: maple barbecue chicken with a side of glazed sweet potatoes, a stark departure from his usual, savoury rice-based meals. He’d informed you that he would be unavailable at your usual lunch time as he’d be working a later shift, and as such you’d planned to eat alone. As it happened, your tasks had pushed you to take an exceptionally late lunch.
You hadn’t expected to spot him alone, on a bench by the training grounds in a deeply pensive state.
You had half a mind to leave him be but your feet took you to him, sitting next to him at his quiet invitation. You thanked him for the lunch, and he expressed that he was glad you enjoyed it. You weren’t unused to comfortable silences in your conversations, but this one carried an unusually heavy charge.
After a while, he finally spoke. “It was my best friend’s favourite dish. He died 10 years ago today.”
Over a shared sweet dish that had once bonded two young optimistic best friends, you took stock of a depth in his eyes that appeared to broadcast a silent internal war struggling to break through to his surface as he unpacked the consequences of the perils that inevitably came with the nature of your duties, attentively listening as the 7:3 sorcerer reminisced on tender memories that punctuated his childhood friendship with Yu Haibara, like how this maple glaze had first tasted too sweet to his liking but eventually grew on him.
The day you were assigned on your first mission together tested many of the beliefs you previously held. The team, consisting of Nanami, Ino Takuma and yourself as support, was assigned to a standard exorcism mission. In theory, you knew that the two of them were more than capable of handling it. And yet, something about your proximity to Nanami as he was about to enter the curtain you’d just raised somehow made the dangers feel more real than ever.
Right as you whispered an inaudible word of caution, Kento Nanami turned to you with a small nod and a reassuring smile.
In that very moment, it came to you more as a shock than a surprise that you no longer regarded him as just another colleague or friend.
That you had completely fallen for him.
The mission went without a hitch and was even completed far ahead of schedule. Ino left ahead of you, leaving you with Nanami who pointed out that you were a short walk from one of the bakeries he had recommended you, and suggested you have lunch there.
You learned that the appetizing casse-croûte ordered at his recommendation had been a chance discovery, the outcome of a desperate quest to replace a favourite treat that had been discontinued during his old corporate days. You bantered over a philosophy he shared about the tolerance for life’s little despairs being a hallmark for adulthood, to which you playfully countered that the appreciation of creature comforts was more important.
“I will concede that this particular little despair may not be the best example, seeing as it eventually led me to my new favourite bakery.”
“Exactly, it’s called serendipity, Nanami. In a similar way, it was the little despair of mixing up our lunch boxes that led my enjoyment of this delightful casse-croûte!”
He rolled his eyes with a chuckle. “You’re citing a situation where your own mistake led to your own benefit. I don’t think your logic holds.”
“Okay, sure. But all in all, aren’t you glad it happened?”
He dropped his gaze, fixating on the remainder of his coffee for a moment, before raising it again to meet your eyes, his expression indecipherable.
“I am,” he finally replies, quietly.
You took a bite to hide your reaction, convincing yourself that you had been too forward, that you should dial it back, that you were feeding into your own delusions.
A few days later, Kento Nanami proved you wrong, by formally asking you out to dinner.
The reservation he’d secured for your first date was at a new dandy restaurant you’d seen advertised and had been eager to try out, on their highly coveted opening night, no less. However, the promise of a “memorable 5-course experience” quickly revealed itself to be puffed-up TikTok fodder, all hype and little substance, evidenced by the tiny portions of subpar meals.
You brushed off the situation as being more comical than disappointing, a sentiment Nanami was unable to bring himself to mirror at first. It was only long after leaving and several attempts to convince him that the burden of such a questionable choice rested squarely on you, having been the one to fall for the establishment’s deceptive marketing that he loosened up, eventually joining you in laughing it off, together taking turns in delivering scathing critiques and commentary on the experience, turning the ordeal into a nice humorous moment that stretched long after he’d parked back in front of your apartment.
Not wanting the evening to end just yet, you invited him up, and over what you later coined to be redemption ramen, the two of you candidly chatted until the early hours of the morning.
Less than a year later, over a truly memorable 5-course meal, of his own creation this time, you agreed to become his wife.
On the tail end of a particularly hectic week, you'd sensed that your fiancé could use a break. So when the young Yuuji Itadori approached you, practically begging you to convince ‘Nanamin’ to agree to let him show off his signature homemade meatballs, you jumped at the timely opportunity.
And thus, the three of you found yourself in Kento’s kitchen that very evening, an occasion that granted you a front-row seat to the lovely bond that had formed between the two. You observed as Nanami seamlessly switched between the roles of mentor and student, diligently following Yuuji’s instructions, all the while using the exercise to dispense kind lessons in patience in response to the teen’s intermittent bursts of ardor.
Over a warm meal of spaghetti and homemade meatballs, as you watched the man before you earnestly congratulate and praise his beloved mentee, which, in turn, had Yuuji proudly beaming with radiant joy, you couldn’t help but imagine how wonderful a father your future husband would make.
You hadn’t realized the reverie you’d been lulled into through the monotony of your continuous stirring movement until the gentle voice of your now husband snapped you out of it.
“Darling? Did you hear what I just said?”
The two of you were in the middle of cooking a stew, in a moment of much anticipated domesticity that closed out an otherwise chaotic week. You had just moved into your new marital home a mere few hours ago. Boxes were still sprawled around the living space. Ordering takeout would have been the wiser choice given the circumstances, you’d both agreed to indulge in your common craving instead - a hearty homemade beef stew.
“I’m sorry, could you repeat that?”
“I said I forgot to get some paper plates. We’d have to unearth the dinnerware from god knows which box, which I don’t think either of us have the energy for. I’ll run out and get some.” he trailed off.
“Oh wait, I think I have just the thing. Take over for me?”, you exclaimed as you handed him the reins of the spoon and wiggled your way out of his grasp. He watched as you sauntered off to a discarded reusable bag sitting by a pile of boxes, fishing out a pair of matching bento boxes that you’d insulated from the chaos of packing for this very occasion.
“You don’t mind using these, do you?” you asked, holding them up like trophies.
He returned your smile with a warm one of his own. “Not at all.”
