Have you worked with Hellebore (Helleborus ×hybridus) ?
What was your experience like mundanely speaking? dried, did it still cause skin irritations? im working on an Obfuscation Dust but i want to be safe as Hellebore is a poison.
PS I have experience working with other plant toxins, such as water hemlock, and foxglove. I also use flying ointments in my personal practice as well. So I don't want anyone to think that I'm getting in over my head or anything. Although I totally appreciate all of the cautious reminders. 🤗

When I return to the moss covered rocks and sacred stones.. Going back to my roots and reconnecting to the wildness. When learning I tend to have a very distinctive pattern. I follow down one train of thought- no matter where it takes me. I buy books to understand the concept, the surrounding topics and the context. I learn as much as possible about that one thing. And then I leave it for a while. I get out of my own head. I return to my roots. I return back to my traditional witchcraft, I return back to the moss and the bark and the sacred symbols drawn on to stone. #fayerie #fayeriefaith #faefaith #witch #witchcraft #instawitch #witchesofinstagram #tradcraft #wildwoman #traditionalwitch #traditionalwitchcraft #occult #celtic #lefthandpath #primalcraft #sabbaticcraft #luciferianwitchcraft #faeriewitchcraft #cunningfolk #cunningwoman #folkloricwitchcraft #hedgewitch #fayerietraditionalism #folkmagic #wilderness #sorcery #animism #mystic #pagansofinstagram #naturalwitch Remember to follow me on Instagram to keep updated and also unique Instagram-only competitions! https://ift.tt/30gD9Fk

I created a couple of protective guardians for my home. They are a witch bottle of sorts honouring the bones of these wildlings I found In nature. As a reader and spell weaver, it is imperative to protect myself in my work.
The animal bones are a link to nature and also between the living and the dead. These two wildings, a crow and a rabbit represent the realm of the dead and the realms of the nature spirits. They sit by my working table to keep me safe. They also act kinda like watch towers too in my work.

So now that I've calmed down a little bit, I want to talk about what prompted my previous Post. I had recently joined the most ridiculous group on Facebook called "all things occult". And there was just the strangest environment in there, but I was just curious and wanted to see if I can engage with people on there in a healthy way, I learned very quickly You cannot lol. Now I probably talk a lot about folk magic on here, folk magic is very important to me. I grew up with bits of folk magic from both Appalachia and Italian-American culture. Pretty sure I said this before but I'll say it again. My father is Appalachian, my mother Italian American. My father would often have all sorts of stories and little bits of mountain wisdom for me when he was having a good day. He taught me a lot about respecting nature and animals, he taught me that you don't just take from nature essentially saying that nature could get back at you. He talked a lot about dreams and having the sight. On my mother's side there was always talk of the Dead visiting my family After funerals.there could be found Catholic talismans hidden around the house for Protection, my grandmother kept a St. Michael pendant by the hot water heater because she was always afraid of fire. And you want to know something,We never had a fire. This growing hate boner for folk magic is incredibly problematic. It is incredibly culturally insensitive, And without even meaning to it's classist. Religious trauma, particularly at the hands of Christianity, is a massive problem. But here's the thing about christian folk magic traditions. Folk magic cannot be separated from Christianity, but folk magic is sorcery and animism and is not sanctioned by any church or any Christian authority. It is still heretical and blasphemous to them. You can hate Christianity, and you do not have to practice folk magic , but folk magic belongs in Pagan And occult spaces no matter your feelings on the issue. There are plenty of trad witches and folk practitioners who are dual faith, and there are many who Care very little about religion and more about the relationships we build with spirits and the religions that they come from.

There is No Karma In Cunning
Modern Witchcraft  and magical systems that do not come from Eastern traditions and religions  should not be concerning themselves with Karma. Most often when Karma is imported into witchcraft and western magic  it is completely watered down from its original source. The white washed understanding of karma is appropriative, unoriginal, and inaccurately portrays Karma. I dont think it's appropriate for me to still be finding witches making a “good karma oil” and then go on to describe a potent purification and protective oil.  Good fortune oil, luck oil, road opener oil etc all are fine and fit into the philosophies of many western traditions. Let us please move away from Karma in western Witchery, Cunning and magic.

A Witch And My Sorcerous Instruments
For some the Witch’s Instruments are nothing more than a tool to focus one's will, and that isn't wrong, however my relationship with my tools (Ideally) is one in which I acknowledge the numen within it. As an animist Witch it would be a personal failure to not give recognition to little gods of my tools, as those little gods can easily disrupt my workings. I need to care for them and show them respect and they will do the same for me.
When I acquire a new tool (which isn't often) I like to first spend time with it as it is, with no magical intervention,  I will not use it for magic but i spend time with it, i carry it with me around the house, i'll hold it, feel it physically and spiritually.
I will continue to impress upon it my desires for it. And they warm up to me. They will then begin to tell me how to go about preparing it for rites of empowerment in which I will give it charge and ask if it needs anything from me in return. (often magical objects simply ask to be cared for and not treated like mundane things in my personal experience)
I also wanted to add that as with any magic, the magic begins when you set out to do the work. The process of building a relationship I do with my tools begins at purchase,or upon finding it. The Witch is already aware of their intentions for the object and the object already becomes loosely aware of those intentions, but it has no reason to listen to you without knowing you and I think that's only fair, you wouldn't necessarily in normal nonlife threatening situations take orders from a bossy stranger.
The instruments of the witch are functionally all spirits and spirit houses in their way. Though not all spirits behave the same way of course. I recently watched an interesting video on youtube talking about the history of the wand. Possessing a wand classically was seen as having a working relationship with the spirit of that wand itself. Magical tools are alive in a sense and they should be treated as such, in my opinion of course.
BIG THANK YOU! to @visardistofelphame for the inspiration for this post. figured others might be interested as well.

"Intret in eum tam facile quam aqua, tam facile quam oleum ad ossa eius" Magic In The Time Of The Tower.
Tumblr media
"The Fourth Pentacle of Saturn.--This Pentacle serveth principally for executing all the experiments and operations of ruin, destruction, and death. And when it is made in full perfection, it serveth also for those Spirits which bring news, when thou invokest them from the side of the South.
p. 68
Editor's Note.--The Hebrew words around the sides of the triangle are from Deut. Vi. 4:--'Hear, O Israel, IHVH ALHINV is IHVH AChD.' The surrounding versicle is from Psalm cix. 18:--'As he clothed himself with cursing like as with a garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.' In the centre of the Pentacle is the mystic letter Yod."-The Key Of Solomon
Note: the pentacles of solomon can be written in any language if writing in Hebrew feels appropriative to you.I like to write mine in latin.
This Pentacle can be used in a lot of creative ways, you can "activate" it and leave it somewhere hidden to bring destruction and ruin. You can use it in candle magic.
Dress and prepare a black candle with this pentacle and place a name paper under it and burn it while reciting psalm 109 "the cursing psalm"  you can pair this with the old english cunning tradition of burning parsley (remember to work the spirit of the plant first) and reciting psalm 109.
Once again you can do any invocation prayers to any of your saturnian spirits, or related spirits to aid your work. if you wish.
Drawing this pentacle you can use walnut ink or an ink made of saturnian herbs like atropa belladonna or Henbane use cation if you make ink from herbal poisons, they can and will hurt you.
Also similar to my last post working with the 6th pentacle of mars, a good way to activate this pentacle is with a good saturnian incense, reciting psalm 109 and finished with a good saturnian oil.

When The Spirits Squabble: The Witch As A Mediator.
It is often the job of someone who keeps spirits or who lives in service to spirits to mediate between them when they are not sharing space peacefully in your life. Sometimes our spirits have different personalities which can cause discord and upset in the lives of the practitioner. I myself have recently stumbled upon this issue with one of the  spirits I have worked with the longest (Nicnevin) and the newest (Diana).  If you notice a theme here you would be correct, both Witch mothers, keepers of cunning, and mothers of spirits, Fair folk, and Fata etc.
I keep relationships with these spirits because they help me learn Witchcraft and magic. But what they needed to understand was they had different things to teach me. Nicnevin oversees my study of Scots-Irish Cunning, and Diana, my Italian-American cunning.  I became aware that Nicnevin was blocking interactions between Diana and myself for  feeling a bit neglected, I apologized, and gave offerings and told them my expectations moving forward. And I prayed fervently to them as well as la Madonna. And the situation quickly sorted itself out  after that.
Normally offerings, fervent prayer, and healthy personal boundaries are enough to sort out this issue UNLESS within your system/tradition there are spirits who canonically don't get along then it would be wise to listen and enshrine them in separate spaces and follow your system/traditions procedures to handle this. So much of the discourse on Spirit work today is just fear mongering, when we could be talking about the responsibility it takes to tend to spirits, And how to troubleshoot effectively without panicking.
This situation wasn’t dire. It was unpleasant and needed to be corrected in case it escalated. And sure I know of practitioners who had full on poltergeist-like phenomena and curses like Anomalies happening when they let this go for too long, but when you keep up with your spirits check in regularly it's really a non issue. Moral of the story is to tend to your spirits. Also  you do not need to keep a hundred spirits.
It is better to have a strong relationship with 1 or 5 spirits/ group of spirits than trying to keep all the spirits. Also it is possible to have a working relationship with a spirit like one you don't enshrine in your home but keep in your heart and mind and sometimes give offerings to when you need their help. But if you're new i think wait on relationships like that as it would just be overwhelming and takes you away from your close spirit team.

I Dream Of A Witcblr Renaissance.
Witchblr back in the day was an absolute social mess. The cyberbullying was brutal to say the least. But it had a few redeeming qualities, it had solid information about magic(k),Witchcraft,Occultism, and Paganism. Witchblr back then may have been a bit rough around the edges but the Insistence on cited sources really made tumblr a great resource to start looking into topics of interest more deeply. Also Witchblr had some dedicated practitioners who were happy to help, if not a bit snobbish (myself included) we all had a lot of growing up to do. But could you imagine a Witchblr revival. Quality information, commitments to accountability and open communication, collective stance of anti-cyberbullying, the resources, etc
I like a good aesthetic as much as the next Queer Witch. However magic(k),Witchcraft, Occultism, and Paganism are not aesthetic, they are something you engage with actively. Witchblur once facilitated that even if a bit toxic but surely we have grown up by now? we could do it better then before.

Fear the Crooked Road: On Fear and the Witches Arte
*these are my own experiences and opinions. take them or leave them, critique me compassionately*
Fear is a natural phenomenon, it is not a choice we make. Fear is something that happens to you. Although it is uncomfortable, Fear is a Protector, a watcher, and the great task master.
Fear brings to each of us Trials, As we stand at the threshold of those trials we have to ask ourselves, do we pass through the dreadful gates or do we turn back? Fear only subsides when we accept it, when we allow it to move through us and we honor it.
I saw a comment on Instagram the other day on a post about spirit working and why we should keep ourselves safe while we work with spirits we don't already have a relationship with. The commenter was a “lightworker” commenting on an animist Witches post. She said “we shouldn’t work with things we have to protect ourselves from”. I have been thinking about that comment since i read it. And how I fundamentally can't understand why we should run from those numinous powers that frighten us. In my own life I address fear in therapy often and I have only ever felt relief by walking through the fear. I have experienced  extranormal phenomena that shook me to my very core but I stayed the course. I moved forward not because I wasn't afraid but because I needed to settle and lay these restless phantoms.
The Witch and the sorcerer (they are the same thing historically and functionally) must engage with the numinous and the supernal. If you wished to build a house on a plot of land you would have to talk to the Genius Loci and ask for its consent to build on its property and you would make a pact or some type of offering a “devil’s Acre” for instance. As a means to show good faith. Or what if you moved into a home with a violent unsettled haunting? It is your job as a witch to use that fear as fuel for you Will. The Witches and The Cunning Folk lived on the edge of the woods for a reason, the woods gave the ancestors pause and great fear. And yet that is where the magic was. Witches are not fearless, we are courageous, we live our peculiar, and whimsical lives in spite of the whispers and stares of the same people who come to us to divine if their partners are faithful or asking for a love spell.
Witchcraft in some ways is not safe, at times it is quite uncomfortable. And I feel it should stay that way. The Spirit of Witchcraft has never suffered fools well. So again don't be fearless, that's foolish, be brave, rise in spite of fear, and be smart in the face of it.

I made a batch of my Ghost Bane oil. During this time Of the year things start to get a bit more liminal and a bit more spooky for me. And while I'm not the type of person to banish spirits , I am much more likely to pray for them, give them offerings, do what I can to help them go where they need to go. But sometimes during liminal times like the dark half of the year it just gets to be a lot, and some of the things that come through are not really interested in following the rules And boundaries that I set. This helps to ward off and be rid of troublesome wandering dead.
