Arcade and the followers are very pro-LGBTQ+ even if you aren't a good person

He probably feels so honoured when you tell him, he'll hesitantly tell you a little bit more about his childhood since you told him something about yourself. You've opened yourself to him.

If you are in a relationship with him, he'll gladly help you with everything since he's read many pre-war magazines (that was the only thing to read half the time)

Aw that's so sad, I never knew he had a letter and even his fandom wiki never mentioned anythin about it. I'm not far into the game so I haven't made it to Camp Forlorn Hope yet. Thou with a name like that, sounds more like a memorial place then one that's active. NPCs made it sound like an active base.

I thought it was just a theory that Boone killed his wife😦 He pretty much says he did when you push him to talk more about it, which I didn't do. I thought companions could be more friendly with you depending on things in your journey which could open up to new dialogue. I thought if I made him talk about it more that he would get a lower like, friendship rating with me and eventually leave.

One thing I wonder thou, did he know she was pregnant? It was mentioned in the letter but he never says anythin about it, not when you give him the letter or when you press him to talk more about his wife. I personally think he didn't know she was pregnant and between having his wife kidnapped and having to mercy kill her, he just doesn't bring up the unborn kid cause of all that grief. Maybe since that was new to him, he's having to process that as well and he just doesn't talk about it cause now the old wound (taking revenge) has reopened (finding out she was pregnant) and maybe his way to process it is to just not talk about it until he's ready.

Thou if Boone didn't know, how did that Murphy lady? If she wasn't visibly pregnant, how did she know she was if Boone didn't know? No one else mentions her being pregnant either, no one says 'oh what a shame she died with a kid too'. Thou, no one liked her but still, I feel like SOMEONE would have mentioned the pregnancy at some point.

For starters, i love your courier and just due to the depth you’ve invested into her, shes canon to me!

But for the question, what gear does she use primarily and why? I enjoy FNV in a hardcore minimalist play style, keeping things to a realistic “soldiers weight” of say 100lbs, and helping a buddy running a FNV DnD game by bouncing ideas around.

So i think it’d be an interesting peek into her head to see what she values, what guns shed choose, what food she leans towards, say how committed she is to carrying chems or booze over more water lol and boones reaction to her potentially goofy intricacies

Boone is pretty cut and dry but knowing shes a rugged wild card with a screw or two loose really makes me wonder what those choices in gear and priorities say about a character

Interesting question. I imagine The Courier to specialize in melee, preferring a more up and personal fighting style, so her gear won't be much to ensure she moves quickly.

She always carries her 10mm pistol on her side, considering it her lucky charm, and 2 revolvers under her arms that she keeps just in case. She has a combat knife, and boy does she love knives. She may have a couple throwing daggers hidden on her arms and belt. She's not much of a long range marksman and would leave that to Boone.

She has a canteen, that may randomly be filled with either water, beer or whatever soda, and her satchel has chems that are mostly jet, psycho, and stimpaks.

Her food of choice would depend on what's available, but she isn't too picky and could absolutely settle with eating radroach and ratmeat. Favorite snack, Dandy Boy Apples.

Boone wouldn't complain as much, as long as it gets the job done, but he would scold her for constantly being drunk and reckless. (Hopefully her reliance on chems and emotions won't cause any conflict :)))

Arcade, Boone, Vulpes X Male!Reader

You were a simple bartender in the atomic wrangler— they joked that you were a saint since you never gambled, nor did they see you drink or ask someone to bed. You kept to yourself.

However, you had the ability to know everything since most customers assumed you were just a bartender and told you things.

Now, you weren't a snitch but if it was for the greater good or a load of caps, you would give your information.

Soon, everyone came to you for things: Gossip, news or even dirt on someone's ex.

You simply smiled and waved.

Arcade:

He thought he was smooth when he came to you, he never really set foot in the atomic wrangler before. He just stayed in the fort really but he had heard that knew someone that knew someone else that could fetch something for Arcade, which he desperately needed.

He just wasn't ready for you. How handsome you were, how your white button down seemed tight around your pecs and your rolled up sleeves that made the muscles in your arms look so enticing to the doctor

Oh god, he had a crush now and hadn't even spoken to you!

He needed to be quick, he'd ask you the name of the contact and leave! Very quickly!

Soon, you left the uncannily familiar man, you returned to Boone, thinking he had finished his beer. You saw that he didn't but you could tell he was deep in thought.

"You alright?" You ask as you stood in front of him.

He looked at you...and just stared. You got uncomfortable, you feel this man's covered eyes searching your entire body.

"Ay, I don't like being oogled" you grunted.

"sorry" was all he muttered before going back to his beer.

"You didn't answer my question" you stated.

Boone knew that you wouldn't leave him now.

Vulpes:

He nearly got caught by that damned sniper that sat a few sets besides him. He was having a pleasant chat with you. Gaining information while planning to enslave you.

You could be his pet project— turning a filthy man into the perfect man for him. Yes, the legion was homophobic but they didn't have to know that he personally took you nor that he favoured you.

You finished you last sentence with a smile and turned to head to horrid sniper. Vulpes frowned. You have information away at the smallest cost yet you tried to outway your sins by being kind.

If FNV was perfect (and kinda excessive) you’d get one companion for each faction I think. In theory it might look something likeeee NCR Companion: Boone already fits the bill for a solid NCR companion imo. He could be a little more interesting though.

Legion Companion: I think Vulpes Inculta was already a cut Legion companion, but it makes sense that a Legion spy would accompany the courier to infiltrate/attack the NCR/Strip.

House Companion: Mr. House already used Victor to keep tabs on the courier, so it makes sense to me that Victor could become a companion. Or just a regular securitron.

Independent Companion: I think a lot of companions already fall under this, but both Benny and Yes Man work too. Both are just as invested in making Vegas independent.

Boomers Companion: I don’t think any of the Boomers would want to leave their base tbh. Also I have no idea besides one of the Mister Gutsys maybe.

Brotherhood of Steel Companion: Veronica is already the perfect BoS companion narratively but I think it’d be funny if you could drag McNamara around.

Followers of the Apocalypse Companion: Arcade is already a good Followers/Independent companion but while it doesn’t make complete sense for her to follow the courier around instead of helping at the Old Mormon Fort... Julie Farkas :3

Great Khans Companion: Melissa Lewis is just kinda hanging around Deathclaws with nothing better to do anyway, like.

Crimson Caravan: I don’t think anyone is begging for a Crimson Caravan companion but it’d be kinda neat if there was a caravan guard up for hire with nothing better to do. Also, Ringo.

Mojave Express Companion: I’m still kinda shocked there’s only one courier companion mod out there. Anyway I think there should either be a courier who wasn’t targeted by Benny and/or Ulysses companion (he was already a cut companion too).

Fiends Companion: Driver Nephi is the meme option but I think there could easily be a Fiend hanging around Vault 3 with nothing better to do but leave.

Goodsprings Companion: I can’t imagine Sunny Smiles leaving Goodsprings to travel all over the Mojave, but I think she could accompany the courier for the first third of the game maybe. Because reasons.

Kings Companion: Rex already exists but I’d love a human Kings companion with a lot to say about every spot in Freeside and the Strip. Maybe a guide/bodyguard.

Powder Gangers Companion: I still think Boxcars would make a cool early-game companion after passing a medicine check, but anyone from the NCRCF could be looking for a good opportunity to leave.

Bright Brotherhood: I think it’d be funny if Harland decided to go with you to deal with the Nightkin and then just kept following you.

My headcanons on FNV characters who I think does art!!! Basically this is what I imagine different characters may like to do. I've included some of this in a fanfic of mine

1. Boone- I imagine he's a doodler. Lots of random spare time in his past led to him picking up a pen or pencil and doing little sketches in the margins or on old receipts or something. He does not consider it drawing, he doesn't consider it good, he doesn't show anyone. If you ask, it gets put away (or tossed or burned). I imagine if you get close to him, he's more lenient and might show you if you ask.

2. Pacer- I imagine he finds spray paint and markers and likes to tag Freeside with graffiti. His skills began at "Pacer was here" then eventually he got better to where he was creating a full artwork. I imagine he makes a brutal and angular NCR soldier with no face painted onto a building to look like he's storming through with his gun at the ready. It's stylized and emotional in an angry way. He probably does poke and stick tattoos too.

3. Lily knits and crochets. This might actually be canon, but I'm not certain. You better bet she knits her little pumpkin a satchel for traveling and even a blanket for road trips where you might need to lay down some bedding on the road. Se probably knits socks for Raul's cold old man feet. She probably crochets Veronica a dress too while she's at it. Oooor better yet a lacey shawl for over her dress.

4. Someone in the Great Khans is really good at ceramics due to their location and resources I bet. I don't know much about the Great Khans and the specific people, but maybe someone in Manny's family made/make the pottery for the tribe. Hell, maybe they even made ceramic bongs to go with their Chem exports. I have no clue. This is less of a headcanon, and more of just a vibe I have.

no problem! to be fair i guess its kind of on me for being on anon, ahah. i dont know if being off anon wouldve made it any better, considering we dont really interact and i was just intrigued by your posts, but...

i fully understand your frustration, i mean i myself am a booneliker (with caveats; i appreciate that he represents an extremely bleak story, and i like to think about the "so what's next?" part) and the vast majority of boone related content is unbearable to look at for me, with how people approach this whole thing. which, it's their prerogative i guess, everyone gets the fun they want out of the work of fiction and i dont wanna assume whats in peoples heads, but damn... what's even the appeal i wonder, of just giving him absolution and a new gf and acting like everything's fine and dandy... dont even get me started on how on the very rare occasion anyone points out the fact he's easily read as being developmentally disabled, it's to be like, yay neurodivergent rep! and not to look at how utterly bleak that is, and how depressing it is that ultimately it doesnt matter, it doesnt materially change the outcome of anything to consider whether that wouldve made him more vulnerable to indoctrination or more mentally detached from what he was doing in the moment. he was given a gun and was told to shoot and shoot he did. every soldier has some reason to be where they are and whatever it is changes absolutely nothing for the victims of their atrocities. the only right way forward is to dismantle the systems that cause and enable this.

i also like the great khans a lot and bemoan the way they're handled in the game. the in-game great khan faction quest, where youre likely going to be breaking their alliance with the caesars legion (at best!)... i mean it feels bizarre, because on one hand of course theyd have compelling reasons to look at the biggest opponent of the ncr, but everything about how that was written feels so flimsy... ack, i could be here all day complaining. oh well. even with treatment they got from the writers i still like to hang out with them :) and to consider what it could all be like if fnv had gotten a Real independent ending, where the khans and the followers play a real major role. i wonder if getting more people to defect from the ncr wouldve been an option. but i'm rambling again!
