      There’s a phone number scribbled on a white piece of paper that Eunha can’t seem to take her eyes off.

      It feels weird, antiquate, for her to have received a number written with ink rather than directly typed into her phone number, but at the same time it’s terribly adequate. It makes the borderline sordid circumstances of their meeting feel more distant from the person she is not, closer to the person she was then. Technically, they are one in the same, but sober Eunha would rather not take responsibility for the choices drunk Eunha makes. Like the one of approaching the man she’d recognized upon first glance, the one whose career she’d been following from day one. Originally it’d been with nothing more than the intention of letting herself be known to one of her idols, but the alcohol she’d ingested had added a flirty lilt to her voice, one she had followed without questioning – only to be rejected. But not for lack of interest, for the man dismissing her as uninteresting. No, it was because she was drunk, of all things, and even with his own state of inebriation he’d only told her that two drunks don’t make it consensual.

      Accepting of the rejection, Eunha had been surprised when he had given her his number and an offer to call him when she was sober. Eunha wasn’t naïve – she knew it wasn’t anything more than just a fuck, a one-night stand, like the ones she’d had in the past, but still she hesitated. It was different when the object of your desire was someone you were a fan of. You held them to a different standard, expected from them things that they surely could not live up to, and Eunha was terrified she was going to find out things that would make her regret it. But then again, perhaps she was just overanalyzing things. It was just a fuck, and although there were possibly others she could’ve gone for instead, Eunha wanted him.

      “Haneul-ssi?” Eunha only became aware that she’d already dialed the number and pressed the call button when the other picked up the phone. “It’s Eunha. We- We met at the bar? The other night?”

”Favorite friends? I always look forward to hang out with @fmddasom, @fmdxchaeyeon and @fmdyuni. These ladies are lovely company. At this point, I can’t not mention @fmdxminhwan either. I’d never hear the end of it. The same goes for @fmdbenjy too. In the times I do find @fmdcrown, he can be good company as well. Especially if it’s music talk in the studio.”

DECIPHER 

Decipher (Korean: 데사이퍼) is a South Korean boy group formed by BC Entertainment in 2008. The group is composed of five members: Haneul, Taesung, Ryu, Duri and Haejun.

Decipher were introduced as a contemporary R&B boy group by their company with the goal to be trendsetters in all areas of music, fashion, dance, etc. and debuted in May 2008 with their first EP, Replay on SBS' Inkigayo with their single “Replay”. The group gained attention for starting a fashion trend amongst students, which the media dubbed the “Decipher Trend”. In August 2008, the group released their first Korean studio album The Decipher World, which won the Newcomer Album of the Year at the 23rd Golden Disk Awards. Decipher further consolidated their popularity on the South Korean music scene with follow-up single “Ring Ding Dong” and later with singles “Lucifer” and “Before the Dawn”.

❀  taeyang knows there’s nothing okay about his sulking, and his cloud-like muse of hair, mushed against his pillow for the last fifteen hours is a pretty shoddy sign of that. he’s had the same shirt and sweatpants on for about five days and there’s a shower long overdue. there was a camping trip, he faintly remembers from a while ago, but as he blearily opens his eyes and smacks his lips together, he can’t gather many other thoughts about the last time he’s been outside. even the bag of pills he asked haneul to pick him up a while ago, just painkillers for the massive headache the darkness of his condo hasn’t been able to tame, is sitting prettily on his nightstand, untouched and sealed like it was days ago. his alarm clock, unplugged after abuse of the snooze button, is an even more annoying reminder of the outside world.

only the potted succulents and small buds of azaleas, imported from who knows where, that sit in the large windows nonadjacent to the balcony opening at the back of the room show signs of care, if not the spotless floors and empty laundry basket at the foot of the bed by a pearl white ottoman.

after ten minutes of arching his back like a cat and rolling his neck slowly, joints creaking like an old carshow corvette, does taeyang wake up and face the music. it’s nice to ignore his phone and roll his toes in expensive satin sheets, white and subject to scorn from the members, but he can’t for much longer what with ‘twenty-six messages’ from one kang haneul, better known in his phone book as ‘nollie’, unchanged from years ago, warning him that he’s on his way.

unlike the time with the painkillers, taeyang doesn’t bother hiding the signs of his hermit status and empty cupboards from the older. the dogs are more than enough of something for haneul to fuss over, the smaller of the two, misha, lurking by the door as if he was prepared for haneul’s arrival while his brother cain perks up on standby nearby.

haneul and his suggestions are as good as the broken coffee-maker in pieces in the dual sink in the kitchen. in other words, taeyang doesn’t plan on dealing with him any time soon.

The space of the studio is occupied by gentle humming coming from the only inhabitant of the room. The melody is unfamiliar – strange, at best – and it bounces off from the top of her head without second thoughts. It’s a song in the making, one she’s been working on for a few hours now and she has yet to be willing to admit she has gotten nowhere within the past hour. Instead of the musical notes she sorely needs, there are colorful cursewords sitting at the tip of her tongue in their stead, annoyance seeping into her very being as she lets out another frustrated sigh. It’s even more frustrating when she knows how she wants the music to sound like but is not able to manifest it into an actual melody.

Closing her eyes, she leans back against the chair, in an attempt to calm herself down. Maybe she should go for a walk, or at least get out of the studio for a bit. She’s been holed up in here for too long – maybe that is the reason why she’s having an artist’s block. Having breathed the same air for too long might have clouded her mind, but she’s too lazy to actually make a move and do something about it. This is probably a time to take a small nap. Interruption intercepts her alonetime, and she can only think of a few people who were willing to disturb her while she was working.

“If you’re here I hope you at least brought me some food. It’s the least you can do.”

a creature of the night, sebastian found tranquility in ominous shadows, in wandering desolate roads with nothing but darkness engulfing every end and turn. there was peace in the bleakest of locales, where the sun’s fingers failed to reach, and he wasn’t marred by light too bright, too holy. his skin didn’t burn like some vampiric monster but guilt tickled the tips of his hands and feet. empathy was uninhabited territory, and he didn’t like traversing down unknown paths that led him to humanity—humanity that let him down. his fists clenched, silencing the odd, sentimental sensation. he didn’t feel remorse; he didn’t know shame or fear of consequences.

if he was caught drinking, smoking, stealing, then so be it. he didn’t hide behind a halo and pretend to be an angel to save humankind; he was a sinful... human, horns breaking skin and teeth elongated and sharp... if you could call that human. despite warnings placed on CHARM to be on their best behaviour, sebastian retorted with a middle finger.

solace in empty, cold lots was not reserved simply in settings but in people, too. haneul was morally grey as they come, and sebastian thrived in the wicked smoke surrounding decipher’s leader, the cloaked whispers, the sinister chortles. or maybe sebastian was hearing his own menacing thoughts, triggered in the presence of someone he found peace in. the irony.

“hyung!” he bellowed saccharine. the hairs on his nape stood, but he was unfazed by the melody rifting. “hyung, wait up!” footsteps on cement, and sebastian chased after haneul in woven, overpriced sneakers and a pair of slacks too short. he caught up, then walked backwards to face the older idol with a smug mien prominent. “where are you headed so late? the bar?” a guess because he knew haneul, and his habits; he knew the crowd he mingled with. wrongdoings tasted so good on sebastian’s tongue; it suited his palate. almost like metal but sweet. tart. tantalizing. “mind if i tag along.” it was no query of permission but a sign, a warning: you’re babysitting me tonight. “i haven’t had a good drink in ages. i could use your expertise.” guide him further into the crypt, where battered hands shackled around ankles, keen on dragging the susceptible down where the sun didn’t shine.
