I dunno man
I just miss the days where the announcement of a new Sonic game was cause for pure excitement rather than excitement mixed with anxious dread. Ironically, Sonic 06 is the last time I felt that way (pre-mania but that was a different dev team for a different type of Sonic game), mainly because I didn’t know what I was in for. I miss the tone of that era of Sonic’s history. A lot of that aspect of things can be traced to art direction and sound design but it’s also the storytelling (I’ve gone on about the game design so I’ll skip that here). Like, what happened to the focus on character interaction? What happened to even passable writing? I’m not asking for anything mind blowing, give me a story where Sonic is genuinely cool again. Where Eggman seems like a threat to all but Sonic & Co because he’s so confident and snarky with him. Where’s the actual banter? Not puns, not jokes, BANTER. To understand what I mean, watch DBZ Abridged. The jokes very frequently come down to banter, how characters play off each other’s personalities. Very rarely are there stock jokes, with set ups and punchlines not derived from who’s interacting. The pizza bit between Goku and Frieza isn’t a non sequitur. It’s not a joke about pizza, it’s funny because Frieza, the genocidal tyrant. is backed into a corner and, in order to get out, bribes Goku with a pizza and it works. It’s funny because, from what we know about Goku, it makes sense that he’d take the bait. That, in a life or death struggle over the fate of the galaxy, one that’s cost his best friend’s life and has so many other stakes, Goku was willing to let Frieza power up because Frieza, who is, again. a genocidal tyrant who has nothing to gain by following through, promised him 2 pizzas with stuffed crust. Nobody set up a punchline, the entire scene IS the punchline. It’s all in who these characters are and how their performances are delivered. How they interact, the back and forth between them.
Give the writing of the games to people who understand and care about the series and characters. Give it to people who CAN write tense or funny banter. Who know who these characters are and can make them play off each other

Having been reading Sonic comics since 2011, I can agree that Ian is a phenomenal writer despite his flaws and despite the hatedom and despite SEGA’s occasional restrictions. He is the Sonic franchise’s chosen one, destined to save the franchise and help fix the mistakes that SEGA has made even though SEGA seems to not want his help.
I would be remiss not to mention that today (March 22nd, 2021) marks the 15th anniversary of the release of Ian Flynn’s first Archie Sonic issue! (Which, coincidentally, was itself a birthday-themed issue written as part of the festivities for Sonic’s 15th anniversary.)
With over 15 years of experience and over 250 total issues (and a couple episodes of Sonic Boom) under his belt, Ian’s easily the most prolific Sonic comic writer who’s ever lived at this point. A well-deserved honor for the guy who brought the comics out of their slump and gave us so many fan favorite stories and characters over the years. It may be a licensed video game comic based on the work of others, but at this point the Sonic comics are definitely his baby. And honestly, I’d wager a guess and say that, out of all official Sonic media, Ian may very well have the largest body of work of any single writer. (Which is why it’s gonna take me years to cover the rest of his Archie stuff lmao)

Sega is still a big company, in Japan, Flynn"s name is unknown. His stans doesn't effect anything consider Sega ignores Sally fans despite the fans attempts to bring her back. Flynn himself stated he likes Shadow being friends with the rest of Team Dark, He always wrote them as friends even in dumb ooc ways, Sega just wants to move away from that and it explains why Shadow has been Solo in most of the recent games. It's stupid but this is what Sega wants too.
How about the obnoxious "Flynn4Sonic" campaign?

Ha ha ha, my dear followers we interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to give you hilarious and embarrassing answer to my very special question for the writer of the Archie Sonic comics; "Can Madonna have a tiny crush on Sonic even though she is human?".
Meant as a fun nod to Madonna's origin as Sonic's love-interests, things go to fun town when I am taken for a hardcore Sonic/human shipper, he he.
Ian is the great writer for Archie Sonic, and if you got any questions for him or his co-host ( @kngi ), you can ask them on the BumbleKing forums or on twitter tagged #bumblekast.

No offensive but...I know you don't agree with every post you reblog but the guy saying that Flynn is just trying to make Sega look bad because of the Team Dark thing is a little unhinged, it's possible that Flynn is a bad writer and that Sega doesn't always make the best decisions, I believe both those things are true, if Flynn was lying about what Sega said his ass would have been in trouble.
Thing is though, Flynn's already exhibiting controlling behaviour and knows he has legions of Stans. Hell, he was cajoling them into getting him a game writing role with the whole "Flynn4Sonic" malarkey.
