Prompt 11
There's a forest near Redania that is lush with color and flora. Every time Geralt camps there, he gets the best sleep of his life. There's always plenty of game for when he's hungry, and the birds follow after him, singing him songs. Every time he comes back, more and more odd qualities of the forest show. Most recently, flowers spawn wherever he or Roach steps. Roach finds this amazing (and very tasty), Geralt meanwhile is starting to find this suspicious. He's begun to hear a song in the breeze, and that's when he kicks roach into high gear and gets the hell out of there. But no matter how far he travels, in the back of his head, he can still hear the sad song, sung from a shaky voice. Eventually, he finds himself along the trail of the forest, and decides to risk it. The voice swaps immediately to a happy tune, and Geralt is being showered with deer and rabbits who are suspiciously suddenly always just near his camp, fish literally jumping out of the river toward him, birds flying after him to drop flowers on him. He decides that whatever is controlling the forest must be harmless, and even wishes it well as he rides off, only to hear the sad song start again as he leaves. He assures the forest he'll return again, and the song lightens to a cheery jig once more. When a monster known for spreading rot wherever it goes suddenly appears in Jaskier's forest, Jaskier knows his only chance is to sing his witcher back (and perhaps convince him to bring Jaskier with him next time.)

Febwhump- DAY 5: rope burns , with Gordon
Ohhh, Gordon was not happy with the idea of being tied up! This one gave me no end of trouble in a good way)! Hope it hits the spot! [wanders off to deal with other prompts ...]
Summary: The best-laid plans of fish and men oft' times go awry.
Backfire
Gordon Tracy writhed. He twisted, wiggled, and convulsed.
Gordon Tracy seethed.
It wasn’t fair! His brothers were all off on rescues and he was ...
Trapped.
In more ways than one.
Firstly, he was trapped on this Island. Okay, that really was nothing new – unless it was for a rescue, he rarely left Tracy Island, but that was by choice. Now … now he was trapped. Trapped by his injuries, still not sufficiently healed for him to comfortably fly out to the mainland as a passenger, let alone as a pilot. So unless his family had the time – and flight hours – to take him, he was stuck here. And with the Hood and the Chaos Crew out and causing mayhem, that was less likely than Parker forgiving him for the bell.
Secondly, he was trapped on dry land. Even though he was now starting physio, and despite water-based physio being the most low-impact option, his various cuts and scratches, and surgical incisions were not yet healed enough – “They would be if you could have sat still, Gordon. You were impatient, and now you’re paying the price.” – for him to be allowed to risk water exposure. Blah, blah, bacteria, blah, blah, infection, blah, blah, weakened immune system, blah, blah, blah, No, Gordon! You can’t go swimming!
Which brought him to this situation. It was received Tracy Wisdom that a dry Fish was a frustrated Fish. And a frustrated Fish vented that frustration with pranks.
And what a prank! A veritable oldie, but goodie – as Grandma often reminded them, “there’s many a fine tune played on an old fiddle”, and Gordon had happily anticipated the merry jig Scott would dance as he succumbed to Gordon’s cunning.
It was simple, the old net in the sand trick. Easy to set up, and not too strenuous, so the Virgil and Grandma in his mind could stop their frowning and toe-tapping and shuffle back to their imaginary infirmary to roll bandages. Bury net under thin layer of sand, rig draw rope around the edges to pulley (already conveniently installed) in the trees, attach to counterweight (also already conveniently set up), set up trip wire across centre of net, and attach to support structure holding up counterweight. Wait for Scott to stumble into it on his morning run. Enjoy the chaos.
Except it hadn’t quite gone to plan.
Scott hadn’t been able to go on his morning run for the last week, and a Scott that couldn’t run was every bit as bad as a Scott that couldn’t fly. Simply put, he was getting on Gordon’s nerves (almost as much as being trapped), and Gordon’s nerves had quite enough to do, thank you, what with relaying to his brain in precise and pedantic detail exactly what part of his body was currently in pain at any given time, and exactly how much that pain hurt. Down to the last micro-ouch.
So that was the equation. Frustration + pain + Scott + anticipation = the call outs this morning being the final straw. Scott, Virgil and Alan had scattered across the globe on three separate missions, Kayo was off with Lady Penelope and Parker trying to anticipate (and head off) the Chaos Crew’s next attack, John had roped Grandma in to assist with dispatch duties, and Brains was locked up in his lab working on the mystery project that had been occupying him since they had recovered Braman.
And Gordon was trapped. Trapped and helpless, and frustrated, and couldn’t stand to stay in the villa one second longer, and had hobbled off to make his escape, down to the beach and across the sand.
Right into his own trap.
So here he was, thirdly, trapped in a suspended, swinging cargo net of his own contrivance. Helpless, and stuck, and alone, and in pain.
There would be no rescue until his brothers came back and noticed him missing. Which might be a while. He couldn’t call for help, because he had stupidly left his communicator in the lounge as he stormed out in a huff.
Gordon wiggled, trying to stretch out, to find a more comfortable position to wait out his captivity, but it soon became apparent that he had underestimated the appropriate size of the net required to contain an adult.
Note to self: obtain bigger net before he tries this on Scott again.
He quickly lost track of the time. Luckily, this position remained shaded from direct sunlight, first by the trees, then by the cliff face alongside the path; so sunburn wasn’t a danger. However, it was still hot, and he quickly became thirsty. Luckily he had brought his large water bottle with him, and even more luckily he hadn’t dropped it when the net had scooped him up, so he could hold off dehydration for a time.
The biggest problem was his position, cramped up into a ball at the bottom of the net, unable to flex his body enough to fully shift into a more comfortable position. And as he slid, and slumped, and wiggled, and twisted the thin nylon rubbed against his body, wearing through the thin medically approved garments he was wearing, light and soft and airy, and not at all up to protecting his skin from the abrasion of the ropes.
Gordon winced, as the breeze swung him gently, he twisted his arm around to examine the source of the irritation, and grimaced. The rub had quickly developed rope burn. He was never going to live this down.
And Scott was never going to let him out of the infirmary.
Sighing, Gordon settled back again, hoping it wouldn’t be too much longer before his brothers got home.

I went to Turkey Creek Sanctuary last night. It was warm and very humid. There was a fair bit of activity on the water. Lots of big mullet jumping. I tried fishing some new spots. I tried to fish areas with a lot of moving water, changes in direction, drop offs, structure, etc. I underestimated the inhabitants of TKS. I lost a new jig to a Tarpon that was probably about 5lbs. It didn't jump but I did see it turn near the surface. I did not expect to find anything like that and was fishing with a micro rod intended for panfish and small Bass. It only had 4lb test. The Tarpon broke me off in just a few seconds. I had a lot of hits on the new size 7 fly I am working on. It casts great with a 3wt rod. I had a few good size Bluegill on but, lost them. I chalk a little bit of it up to having to reel in from the 5 o'clock position due to how I have to contort my body. I have to find a better way to anchor the canoe. Casting and stripping in while twisting around is not comfortable. Especially while sitting. This Bluegill hammered a Morphin Mighty Micro. Luckily I was facing forward when it did. While paddling near some of the shallow sandy areas I saw a decent size Sheepshead and a Gar that was at least three feet long. Holy cow! I have see small Gar in the TKS but, one that big took me by surprise. The biggest surprise of the night was when a Tarpon no less than 10 lbs and probably closer to 12 lbs, jumped in front of my canoe about six feet away from me. I let out quite the holler. A big woohoo and and excited laugh could probably have been heard throughout most of the surrounding area. It was the first time I have seen a Tarpon jump without being hooked. Overall it was a fun night. I chatted with some people and had a pleasant paddle.
A few notes about the weather. It had been overcast and grey most of the day. The pressure was falling. No rain with about 11 mph winds that did not affect the water.

The Ultimate Gear Guide for Your Next Fishing Trip
Fishing is one of those activities that’s relaxing, exciting, and sometimes a little unpredictable all at the same time. Whether you’re casting a line for the first time or you’re already hooked (pun intended), having the right gear is the key to enjoying your time on the water. Let’s dive into the must-have equipment every angler needs to make the most out of their fishing trip.
Rods and Reels: The Basics You Can’t Skip
The rod and reel are your fishing essentials—without them, well, you’re just sitting by the water! For beginners, spinning rods and reels are the way to go since they’re easy to handle and versatile enough for different types of fish. As you gain experience, you might want to try a baitcasting reel for more precision or a fly rod if you’re chasing trout with delicate fly patterns.
The length and flexibility of your rod matter too. Longer rods help you cast farther, while shorter ones give you more control. Just remember, the fish don’t care how fancy your gear is—they only care about what’s at the end of the line.
Fishing Line: What Connects You to the Catch
Don’t overlook your fishing line—it’s a critical part of your setup. Monofilament lines are stretchy and easy to use, making them perfect for newbies. If you need more strength for bigger fish or dense vegetation, braided line is the way to go. And for super-clear water where fish are more cautious, fluorocarbon is practically invisible underwater.
It’s smart to carry a few spools of different types and weights. Lines can get tangled, frayed, or even snapped, so being prepared is half the battle.
Tackle Box: Your Fishing Toolkit
A well-stocked tackle box makes life easier when you're out on the water. It should have the essentials—hooks, sinkers, bobbers, and swivels. Toss in a few different lures too, like crankbaits, jigs, and soft plastics, so you can adjust your strategy if the fish are being picky.
Don’t forget the little things: scissors to cut line, pliers to remove hooks, and maybe even a spare spool of line. A tidy, organized tackle box means less fumbling around and more fishing.
Hooks, Weights, and Bobbers: Small but Mighty
Hooks come in different shapes and sizes, and each has its purpose. J-hooks are classic and reliable, while circle hooks are perfect if you plan to release your catch unharmed. Treble hooks have three prongs, making it harder for fish to shake them off—great for lures, not so great for your fingers!
Weights help your bait sink to the right depth, and bobbers keep it suspended where the fish are biting. They also make it fun to watch for that telltale dip that says, “Fish on!”
Bait: The Secret to a Successful Catch
Fish can be picky eaters, so having the right bait is key. Live bait like worms, minnows, or shrimp is always a solid choice. But artificial lures have their perks too—they’re reusable, easy to carry, and great for imitating different types of prey.
Try both and see what works best for the fish you’re after. Just remember to check the local rules—some places have restrictions on live bait.
Fishing License: Don’t Get Caught Without One
Make sure you’ve got a fishing license before heading out. It’s not just about following the rules—it also supports conservation efforts and helps maintain healthy fish populations. Many states offer online licenses, so getting one is quick and easy.
While you’re at it, brush up on the local regulations. Some places have limits on how many fish you can keep, and certain species might be off-limits at different times of the year.
Safety Gear and Comfortable Clothing
Safety first, always. If you’re fishing from a boat, a personal flotation device (PFD) is a must. Even if you’re fishing from the shore, a PFD can be a lifesaver in case of an accidental slip into deep water.
Polarized sunglasses not only protect your eyes but also cut through the water’s glare so you can spot fish more easily. Throw on a hat, some sunscreen, and weather-appropriate clothes, and you’re good to go. Being comfortable out there makes the whole experience way more enjoyable.
Nets and Pliers: Handy Tools You’ll Be Glad to Have
Landing nets are a game-changer, especially if you’re catching larger fish. They make it easy to scoop up your catch without injuring it, which is great if you plan to release it. Look for a net with rubber mesh to be extra gentle on the fish.
A good pair of pliers is essential too. You’ll need them to remove hooks, cut line, and make quick adjustments to your tackle. Trust me—when you’re trying to free a fish that’s deeply hooked, you’ll be glad you have pliers on hand.
Cooler or Livewell: Keep Your Catch Fresh
If you plan to keep your catch, a cooler with ice will keep it fresh until you get home. No one wants to bring back spoiled fish! If you’re doing catch-and-release, a livewell is a great way to keep fish healthy before you let them swim off.
And hey, don’t forget to pack snacks and drinks for yourself. Fishing can take longer than you think, and staying hydrated and energized is just as important as keeping your fish fresh.
Gadgets and Tech: Modern Fishing Tools
While maps and compasses are still useful, GPS devices and fish finders have become the go-to tools for anglers. Fish finders use sonar to show what’s swimming beneath your boat, while GPS ensures you never lose your way (or your favorite fishing spot).
If you’re fishing from a boat, a trolling motor lets you move quietly through the water without scaring the fish. It’s a real game-changer when you’re trying to sneak up on a school of bass.
Rain Gear and Other Essentials
Weather can be unpredictable, so it’s always smart to pack some rain gear—just in case. A waterproof jacket and pants will keep you dry if the skies decide to open up.
A few extra supplies—like a flashlight, a multi-tool, and spare batteries—can also come in handy. Fishing trips don’t always go as planned, and being prepared means you’ll be ready for anything.
Cast Your Line and Enjoy the Moment
With the right gear in your arsenal, you’re ready to tackle whatever your next fishing trip throws at you. From rods and reels to safety gear and snacks, being prepared ensures more time enjoying the moment and less time dealing with mishaps.
Fishing is about more than just the catch—it’s the thrill of the cast, the peace of being outdoors, and the stories you get to tell afterward. So pack your gear, grab your license, and get out there. Your next big fishing adventure is just a cast away!

Paciência e Persistência: A pesca requer paciência e persistência.

Claro!
Eles costumam pedir as mesmas cartas?

While winter blankets many regions in icy temperatures, Florida remains a haven for anglers seeking warmth and bountiful fishing opportunities. The Sunshine State's mild winter climate opens up a plethora of options for anglers to indulge in their favorite pastime. From saltwater to freshwater, Florida's diverse ecosystems offer a winter fishing paradise. Let's explore some of the best winter fishing spots and the species that lure anglers to Florida's waters during the cooler months.
1. Mosquito Lagoon: A Redfish Haven
Nestled along Florida's east coast, Mosquito Lagoon is renowned for its pristine waters and flourishing redfish population. Winter brings optimal conditions for sight fishing as cooler temperatures reduce water clarity, making it easier to spot redfish tailing in the shallows. Anglers can target these copper-colored beauties using artificial lures or live bait. Additionally, speckled trout and black drum are common catches in Mosquito Lagoon during the winter months.
2. Lake Okeechobee: A Bass Fishing Extravaganza
Florida's largest freshwater lake, Lake Okeechobee, is a bass fishing paradise that beckons anglers year-round. Winter brings about a unique scenario as bass migrate to the lake's warmer shallow waters. Spinnerbaits, soft plastics, and live shiners are effective bait choices for luring largemouth bass during this season. The expansive nature of Lake Okeechobee allows anglers to explore various hotspots, including the famed grassy areas and the Kissimmee River.
3. Tampa Bay: A Diverse Saltwater Playground
Tampa Bay offers a diverse range of saltwater fishing opportunities, making it an ideal destination for winter anglers. Snook, redfish, and spotted seatrout are prevalent during this season. The abundance of seagrass beds and mangrove shorelines provides excellent habitats for these species. Artificial lures such as soft plastics and jerkbaits, along with live shrimp, can prove fruitful when targeting these prized catches in Tampa Bay's clear winter waters.
4. Indian River Lagoon: Seatrout and Redfish Haven
Stretching along Florida's Atlantic Coast, the Indian River Lagoon is a productive estuary that attracts anglers in pursuit of seatrout and redfish during the winter months. The slightly cooler temperatures spur increased feeding activity among these species. Topwater lures, shrimp imitations, and live bait are effective choices for enticing seatrout and redfish in the lagoon's shallow waters.
5. Florida Keys: Winter Wonderland for Anglers
The Florida Keys, with their tropical allure, provide a unique winter fishing experience. While bonefish and permit are year-round targets, winter brings an increase in the population of these elusive flats species. Shallow flats and sandy bottoms offer prime opportunities for fly anglers to test their skills. Additionally, the waters surrounding the Keys are known for winter migrations of sailfish, making offshore excursions equally enticing during this season.
6. St. Johns River: Winter Crappie Bonanza
For freshwater enthusiasts, the St. Johns River becomes a winter crappie haven. As temperatures cool down, crappie, also known as speckled perch, gather in deeper holes and creek channels. Jigs, minnows, and small spinners are effective bait choices for enticing crappie bites. The St. Johns River's slow current and abundant structure make it an ideal setting for winter crappie fishing.
7. Fort Lauderdale Offshore: Sailfish Capital of the World
Fort Lauderdale's offshore waters become a winter playground for anglers targeting sailfish. The Gulf Stream's proximity brings sailfish closer to the coast, creating thrilling opportunities for both novice and seasoned anglers. Trolling with live bait or artificial lures and deploying kite fishing techniques are popular methods for targeting sailfish in the offshore waters of Fort Lauderdale

Fly Fishing Theme
Fly Fishing Theme
Saturday night, 6 January 2024
This dream staging that loosely models a kinesthetic response, more so a visual effect of floating over a sizeable table, has a fly-fishing reference.
I look across a sizeable plastic container with many small transparent compartments. Two men are studying the feature, one on each side of a table. The setting is unknown.
Each compartment contains a different fly or jig - as used in fly fishing. The mood is neutral but natural.
Even though my dream had a peaceful essence, I assume it relates to having COVID because flies are associated with illness and disease. The artificial flies being compartmentalized and scrutinized probably signifies having my illness under control - or wanting to. (Depending on the dream’s narrative and outcome, buzzing flies may also just be an auditory response to the waking transition via the auditory cortex becoming more active, and in other cases, a somatosensory response to REM atonia via the somatosensory cortex becoming active - dream content I have experienced many times previously.)
